In this episode of Gangland Wire, retired Kansas City Intelligence detective Gary Jenkins sits down with veteran Chicago journalist Chuck Goudie, whose decades of reporting have made him one of Chicago's most respected voices on organized crime. A fan of the show asked for more Chicago stories—and this conversation delivers. We dive into the legacy of the Spilotro family, sparked by the recent passing of John Spilotro, brother of the infamous Las Vegas mob figure Tony Spilotro. Chuck shares his reflections on how the Outfit has evolved, from its heyday of dominance in gambling, loansharking, and union racketeering to its much smaller—yet still persistent—presence today. Together, we revisit the Outfit's historic ties to the Teamsters, the Strawman trials, and the legendary names like Anthony Accardo who shaped Chicago's mob identity. Chuck solves a mystery and provides the name of the man who killed Sam Giancana. Chuck also offers personal insights into how mob families navigated the push and pull of blood ties, with some members rising into notoriety while others tried to lead straight lives under the shadow of organized crime. Our conversation shifts to Chuck's recent investigative work on the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa, exploring the long-standing theories and mob connections that keep the story alive decades later. This episode blends history, reflection, and storytelling—offering both an inside look at Chicago's Outfit and a reminder of why these stories still captivate us today. 1:02 The Legacy of John Drummond 4:11 Current Status of the Outfit 7:28 The Last of the Spilotro Family 10:02 Family Dynamics of the Spilotros 13:18 Frank Calabrese's Las Vegas Fame 13:25 Giancana's Murder Investigation and who did it 18:18 Surveillance in the Giancana Case 22:03 The Straw Man Trials 25:40 Ken Eto's Gangland Story 27:52 Investigating Jimmy Hoffa's Disappearance 31:03 Closing Thoughts with Chuck Goudie Subscribe to Gangland Wire wherever you get your podcasts, and join us each week as we uncover the stories buried beneath the headlines—and the bodies. This is Gary Jenkins, retired Kansas City Police Intelligence Unit detective here in Kansas City. And, you know, guys, I have, I was talking with a fan not too long ago from Chicago, I think on the, maybe the Facebook group, and he said, you need to do more Chicago stories. And I had to admit, I hadn't done that many Chicago stories. I got caught up in New York a lot, It seemed like, and anyhow, we're back to Chicago and another guy's mentioned to another guy and we were talking and, and somebody said, I don't remember who, maybe that original fan said you need to get Chuck Goudie on there. He's been doing a lot of reporting on the outfit over the years. And I didn't really know who Chuck was. So I started searching. He did a recent story about the death of the last spilotro brother, John spilotro. So I thought, man, this is, this is it. This is what I got to do. So welcome, Chuck Goudie from Chicago. Well, it's quite an introduction. Some might call it a eulogy, but thankfully that's not what he does. [1:02] Really? Now, I think I told you earlier, you know, last time I interviewed a Chicago newsman, it was John Bulldog Drummond. Bulldog Drummond, I tell you what, he was the dean of Chicago newsmen, television newsmen, when it came to reporting on the mob. There's no doubt about it.

Vincent Kearney, Northern Editor, reports on the murder of a recently-released sex offender in Newcastle, Co Down
What began as a typical game day celebration for University of Idaho students would end in unimaginable horror on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Xana Kernodle, a marketing junior, spent the day with friends, including her boyfriend Ethan Chapin and housemates Dylan, Bethany, Kaylee and Maddie at their shared home on 1122 King Road. After parties and celebrations, the group returned home in the early hours of Sunday morning. At around 4am, Dylan heard disturbing sounds. When she cracked her door open, Dylan saw a masked man with bushy eyebrows holding what looked like a vacuum cleaner. The next day, when upstairs roommates wouldn't answer their phones, friends discovered the bodies of Xana, Ethan, Kaylee and Maddie - all brutally stabbed to death. Vicky Ward, co-author of The Idaho Four: An American Tragedy, joins Claire to explore this devastating case. You can find her book here. Big Breakdown: The Failures Of The Delphi Murder Investigation Description: In this episode, we dissect one of the most troubling investigative missteps in recent American true crime: the Delphi, Indiana murders of Abby Williams and Liberty German in February 2017. We'll start by walking through the facts—the teenagers disappeared while hiking the Monon High Bridge Trail, and despite early video and audio evidence (famously, the “Bridge Guy” recording), the case remained unsolved for five years . We'll dive into the allegations of mishandled evidence: from misfiled reports to photographs never taken at the crime scene, all culminating in a flawed forensic timeline that veered investigators off course . The episode explores how a lack of prosecutorial transparency—highlighted by the late release of the arrest affidavit in October 2022—shrouded the process in secrecy . We'll analyze the arrest of Richard Allen in 2022, uncovering why his detention raised eyebrows—he reportedly told law enforcement of being on the bridge in 2017, matched the clothing in the video, and had a bullet casing traced to his gun . But the defense pushed back, pointing out selective pursuit of suspects, suppression of alternative leads, and inconsistent ballistics analysis . Finally, we consider whether justice served is true justice—or merely the product of a case rushed to completion. With minimal direct evidence and lingering unanswered questions, this episode asks: have investigators delivered closure, or simply a convenient conclusion? In this harrowing episode of the classic radio show "The Whistler," listeners are drawn into a gripping narrative filled with betrayal, secrets, and eerie coincidences set against the backdrop of a chilling New York winter. The story begins as the host, embodying the character of the Whistler, invites the audience into his realm, creating an atmosphere thick with suspense and foreboding. This episode features a complex tale involving the young couple Paul Garson and Lana Wallace and the elderly Gregory Hellman. The drama unfolds when Lana, unexpectedly revealing her intention to marry Gregory, sends Paul into a whirlwind of anger and despair. Believing her decision to be a mistake, Paul pleads with her to reconsider, citing his deep love for her. However, Lana is resolute. The couple's discourse reveals a rift between youthful passion and the harsh realities of marriage. A short time later, Lana marries Gregory and the two begin their honeymoon at a secluded villa, lamenting the years of loneliness that have preceded this moment, particularly Gregory, who feels like a young man once more. The juxtaposition of their youthful romance against Gregory's evident desire for a simple, tranquil life serves as a contrasting backdrop for the growing tension. As weeks pass in the villa, a growing discontent begins to seep into Lana's psyche. She finds herself increasingly bored with her husband's sedentary lifestyle, which leads to an argument that spirals out of control. Gregory unexpectedly leaves for a New York trip, unknowingly sparking a series of events that culminates in tragedy. Lana seeks solace in familiar territory, finding herself face-to-face with Paul Garson once more in Mexico City. During their encounter, the weight of missed opportunities comes crashing down as both express regret and remorse for past decisions.Their reunion stirs up powerful feelings, and Lana, now estranged from Gregory, confides in Paul about her failed marriage. As their relationship rekindles, Lana's looks and vitality shine through, drawing Paul back into a state of longing. Yet, not all is as it appears; the narrative takes a dark turn when Paul's questions about Gregory lead to the discovery of a buried secret. A body found in the cellar is revealed to belong to Gregory Hellman, marking the emergence of deeper complexities involving guilt, lies, and betrayal.Paul finds himself entangled as a suspect due to his prior affection for Lana and his tumultuous feelings about Gregory. The police begin to investigate, and the revelations that follow weave a tangled web of deceit and misunderstanding, culminating in both Paul and Lana being charged with murder. The story interlaces elements of mystery, exploring themes of love, desperation, and the inexorable hand of fate. As the Whistler reveals the truth of what happened that fateful night, the audience is left grappling with the harsh realities of the intertwining lives marked by secrets and ultimately, remorse. In a parallel storyline, the episode shifts gears with a second tale, "Fear Paints a Picture," featuring a character named Julia Powell. Julia grapples with fear as she struggles against the backdrop of her family history of mental illness. She finds herself isolated in her father's old house, and her psyche starts to unravel as her fears manifest in haunting dreams tied to a peculiar painting that evokes dread. As the story unfolds, psychological themes take center stage, examining the constructs of fear and the struggle to uncover the truth behind her erratic thoughts. The narrative builds a palpable tension, leading the audience to wonder about the thin line between sanity and madness. The episode crescendos with the tension of both narrative arcs, illustrating how fear and regret are often intertwined, culminating in a resolution that leaves the characters, and the audience, with profound reflections on the nature of love, loss, and the specters of our pasts that continue to haunt us. Each character, bound by their own choices and fears, is left to confront their demons—an overarching theme that resonates deeply in this chilling tapestry of storytelling. With classic music and expertly crafted dialogue, the episode remains a compelling exploration of the human psyche, perfectly encapsulating the essence of suspense.

Could Richard Allen really be the man behind the tragic Delphi murders, or is there more to the story than meets the eye? In this chilling episode, retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer sits down with Tony Brueski to dissect the controversial case. Richard Allen's alleged confessions, made under the harsh conditions of solitary confinement, cast a long shadow over his credibility. Add to this the law enforcement's mishaps—poorly secured crime scenes, misplaced evidence, and even deleted interrogation footage—and the waters grow murkier. With the FBI initially turned away from the investigation, you have to wonder: is justice for Abby and Libby truly within reach, or are we all being led down a twisted path? #DelphiMurders #RichardAllen #TrueCrime #HiddenKillers #TonyBrueski #JenniferCoffindaffer #JusticeForAbbyAndLibby Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
