In a world exclusive, Kate Bush speaks to Emma Barnett about being discovered by a new generation and making it to number 1 in the UK singles charts 44 years after her first chart-topper Wuthering Heights. Running Up That Hill was first released in 1985 and its use in the Netflix hit series Stranger Things has made Kate Bush a social media and streaming sensation. The physical and emotional challenges of in vitro fertilisation, or IVF, never fade from your memory - whatever the outcome. But what happens when you have been lucky enough to have a child or children and you still have frozen embryos in storage you are sure you will not use? You can donate to another couple in need, to science, let them be discarded or continue to preserve them. Alison Murdoch, Professor of Reproductive Medicine at Newcastle University and two women who have faced this join Emma. The comedians Katherine Ryan and Sara Pascoe have been making headlines in recent weeks following comments they made on Katherine's new TV show. Both revealed instances when they've worked with men they believe to be predatory and despite complaining these men have not been reprimanded. Emma is joined by Kathryn Roberts who quit comedy because of her experiences and also by Chloe Petts who will be performing her show Transience at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. Olivia Harrison has penned a book of poetry called "Came the Lightening" to celebrate her husband, George Harrison's life, more than twenty years after his death.. As lead guitarist of The Beatles, his most famous songs included While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and Here Comes the Sun. What prompted her to share her memories in poetry? She tells Emma. As Wimbledon is set to begin on Monday, we discover the story behind Althea Gibson the first Black woman to win Wimbledon in 1957 and 1958. Writer and performer Kemi-Bo Jacobs was so inspired by her that she has written a one-woman play, 'All White Everything But Me' about her. She joins Anita to tell her more. The Treasury's Women in Finance Charter has published its annual review looking at gender diversity within the financial sector in the UK for 2021. Amanda Blanc is CEO of Aviva, the UK's leading insurer and leads the Women in Finance Charter and speaks to Emma about the review as well as her experiences of sexism as one of a handful of female FTSE 100 bosses.

Emma is joined by Kathryn Roberts who quit comedy because of her experiences and also by Chloe Petts who will be performing her show Transience at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. School proms return this year, but with more and more families feeling the pinch during the cost-of-living crisis, some students are missing out on this milestone event as they can't afford a dress. Across the UK, pop-up shops for preloved dresses are helping relieve the financial burden for disadvantaged teenagers. We speak to two women involved in such intiatives. When Amy Maynard offered to take in a Ukrainian lady called Iryna, she didn't realise the other struggle Iryna had been dealing with – fertility. Her first round of IVF was successful until she had a stillbirth, and she has one embryo left in Kyiv. Amy has now decided to raise money for Iryna and her husband Sergey, so they can have the chance to have a family of their own. Have you ever tried crowd surfing before? One woman decided she would try her hand at it and won a competition. Amanda Mansell from York has been crowned 'Middle-Aged Crowd Surfing Champion'. She had never done it before but now thinks more women should be doing it. Presenter: Emma Barnett Producer: Emma Pearce

Then TFFF chat to Debbie Hanna, one half of multi-award winning Megson, who shares the unlikely story of how she and husband Stu Hanna found folk music, and how to they work together to write songs that are a true expression of them both while still reflecting society around them.

My topic for the week is Facebook challenges, what I think about hosting them and trying to complete them. My guest today is Kathryn Roberts, the founder of Quest for $47. She is a content strategist, mentor, and coach for female online business owners struggling to make their voices heard in their industry. She teaches her clients how to drill down on who it is they serve, how best to serve them and how to get consistent sales from an easy-to-implement marketing strategy. Her philosophy is to hold nothing back and not tell her clients what they want to hear, but rather what they NEED to know in order to grow their business's into that asset that lets them live life on their own terms.Links:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/q47consistentcontent/Instagram: https://instagram.com/questfor47Website: https://questfor47.comEmail: questfor47@gmail.comWant to watch my Happy Dance Video? ABOUT Kathryn: A life-long college sports fan and someone who is FOREVER bitter about the country's east coast bias, I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2012 with a BA in Creative Writing, emphasis in poetry because the fiction studies emphasis was too pretentious for me to handle. Seriously. After graduation, I accidentally exiled myself to Alabama in pursuit of a career in athletic media relations. I learned a lot, ate a lot more (they shred cheddar cheese on EVERYTHING), watched a LOT of quality college softball, and met some of the greatest people I will ever know. I moved back to Arizona in 2013, started working for Arizona State University in its athletic department (yes, my college's rival, I know, I've heard that one once or twice), got my own place, and adopted a cranky old cat named Maggie, aka the four-legged roommate who really ran my household. Maggie has since moved on to hang out with the pets of family's past, and now I have Bishop, my chatty, comic-book character-inspired roomie who loves to play fetch even though she is certainly…not a dog. https://questfor47.com/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/journeytoentrepreneurship/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/journeytoentrepreneurship/support

Kathryn Roberts, owner of Quest for $47 is back for round to on Lean Into Curiosity. In this episode she tells us what she’s been up to since we first chatted a few months ago.  As a solid, consistent content Kathryn shares her take on the importance of choosing a social media platform you enjoy.  She also shares with us why and how to consistently create content that will engage your audience. I was so happy to have this energetic, happy human back for a 2.0 version.  TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE: Get to know what your audience needs and a good way to do this is with FB groups. Consistency takes strides every single day and it takes solid mind work. Everyone starts with an audience of zero in which you will be shouting to a void, but eventually you will fill that void. Find the platform to prioritize your consistent efforts, it’s impossible to be on all platforms at all times. Building a business is experimenting, making informed decisions and adjusting accordingly. That Shakespeare Life

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 10, 2018 20:43

Mentioned by name in three of Shakespeare’s plays, the legend of Robin Hood played a big role in the life of most dramatists in early modern England, being a prominent figure in English folklore, his legend was a popular source of good dramatic material on stage. For William Shakespeare, Robin Hood had some very specific touch points, not only was he mentioned by names, but numerous volumes of Shakespeare’s contemporaries were writing and staging plays about Robin Hood, and Queen Elizabeth’s father, Henry VIII, famously had himself and his court to dress up as Robin Hood and his merry men for a celebration. There were songs and ballads about Robin Hood being sung in Shakespeare’s lifetime, and during the Gunpowder Plot, Robert Cecil even called Guy Fawkes and his associates “Robin Hoods” in 1605. With the current reputation of Robin Hood as a good folk hero, contrasted with the bad reputation Robert Cecil obviously had of him, I wondered exactly what we as a 21st century audience need to know about 17th century associations with Robin Hood when we encounter the mentions and references to this popular folktale in Shakespeare’s plays. To help us sort out this mystery and learn more about Shakespeare’s Robin Hood, is our guest Kathryn Roberts Parker.
