When MIke Tomlin wants to sit down and chop it up, you soak it in and try to take in all his words and wisdom. In this can't-miss 2025 training camp special —Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor—make their annual trip to Latrobe for a powerful, wide-ranging sit-down with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, just weeks away from one of the most anticipated seasons in franchise history. Tomlin pulls back the curtain on what it's like coaching Aaron Rodgers, now in black and gold and laser-focused at another shot at a Super Bowl. From the moment Rodgers walked into the building, the standard didn't change—it elevated. Coach T talks leadership dynamics, the merging of legacies, key pick ups adding star power on both offense and defense and how he's building a locker room that can support both the present and the future. It's a true Sunday service with Coach's honesty and gems dropped as the guys go deep into what Rodgers still brings at age 41, the lessons learned from past seasons, and why this year may look a little different but rooted in the same core principles. Tomlin also reflects on his longevity in the league, the evolution of his leadership style, and the pressure—and privilege—of chasing greatness in a city that demands it. His love affair with football and what drives him each day is shared and he even reveals some secrets that will make the football world say- ohhh now I get it! Tap in now for the full conversation with Mike T as the guys peel back the layers of one of the most respected figures in sports. Post-Gazette insiders Christopher Carter and Brian Batko recap practice at Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They detail notable veterans who will miss the NFL preseason opener Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, including T.J. Watt, Jalen Ramsey, Jaylen Warren, DK Metcalf and others, according to coach Mike Tomlin. They also note the progress of the offense in practice, particularly in attacking the middle of the field with QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Scotty Miller. Will Rodgers have more success there than predecessors Russell Wilson and Justin Fields did in OC Arthur Smith's offense? And could Miller have a bigger role than expected alongside names like Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson? Then later, the guys explain why Yahya Black has continued to impress on the defensive line and offer their thoughts on Cam Heyward's hold-in as he reportedly seeks another new contract after signing a lucrative extension just one year ago.
Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray said Cam Heyward had been present for the early stages of camp and nobody thought to ask about him working to the side because vets of his status get treated a little bit differently. Ray thinks both sides of the equation have an argument. Ray told us Chris Boswell has spent more time at the local Latrobe golf courses than on the practice field, but it doesn't change the fact that he is among the best in the game. Ray said this could get uncomfortable, but at the end of the day, they will be on the field. The Steelers signed Andrus Peat today, who could be an insurance policy for Broderick Jones. Ray said Yahya Black is the player he's most excited to watch on Saturday night.

The Pittsburgh Steelers put the pads back on for Tuesday's practice, and Jarrett Bailey was in Latrobe to take in all the sights. Aaron Rodgers has his best practice as a Steeler, Roman Wilson impresses, and Will Howard suffers an injury. That and more on today's training camp recap.
The Pittsburgh Steelers head to Jacksonville for their preseason opener, and the SCU team is breaking it all down. In this episode, Joe and Brian dive into the latest training camp updates from Latrobe—including standout performances, injury news, and depth chart shakeups—and previews what to expect when the Black and Gold take the field against […] Rodgers and the rookies ready to shine in Jacksonville appeared first on Steel City Underground.
Post-Gazette insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo recap practice at Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They break down the latest Will Howard injury news, which is that the rookie QB is expected to miss the entire NFL preseason with a broken hand, opening up reps for names like Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson. They also analyze the punting battle between Cameron Johnston and Corliss Waitman. And react to QB Aaron Rodgers' comments indicating that he does not expect to play in the preseason opener this weekend. Is coach Mike Tomlin making the right move to protect his QB? Or should Rodgers see some action as he looks to build chemistry with weapons like DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson, Calvin Austin III, Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth. Our guys tackle those questions and more.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers speaks with assembled media ahead of practice at Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. He speaks on his growing chemistry with receiver Roman Wilson as he looks to find his place in the receivers room alongside Calvin Austin III and DK Metcalf; his relationship with OC Arthur Smith that's included long meetings in the evening; his thoughts on backup QB Will Howard amid his recent injury; and his belief in the value of NFL preseason games.
On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette insider Christopher Carter to analyze the team's increasing volume of injuries during Steelers training camp. How much will Will Howard's hand injury -- which reportedly will keep him out at least three weeks -- stymie his progress in challenging Mason Rudolph for the No. 2 QB job? How much should fans worry about Calvin Austin III, who's missed several practices as he looks to prove he can be a capable WR2 behind DK Metcalf? And have the absences of names like Jonnu Smith, Joey Porter Jr., Isaac Seumalo and others simply been the normal wear and tear of camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks receivers. Is Roman Wilson starting to turn a corner in his chemistry with QB Aaron Rodgers after a highlight-reel catch Tuesday? Is Scotty Miller still in the mix to make the roster despite failing to see the field much with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson in 2024? Could the Steelers still make a move for a veteran like Amari Cooper? Or are they confident in their depth and other veterans like Robert Woods and Ben Skowronek.
Mark Kaboly joins the show to talk about amusement park fast passes, how Mark is staying at a hotel in Latrobe, what Will Howard's injury means, who he thinks will be the Steelers' starting QB in 2026, how much starters should play in preseason games, Brock Lesnar's return at SummerSlam, why Mark doesn't follow Dom on Twitter, how Pittsburgh's secondary will shake out, who the star of camp has been, and more!
Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo break down Tuesday's training camp practice, which, for the first time since they arrived in Latrobe, was dominated by the offense. Is this a sign of things to come from Aaron Rodgers and his unit after performing well during the "seven shots" drill? What does it mean for the wide receiver corps that Rodgers formed a connection with Roman Wilson, who had his best practice of training camp Tuesday? And why is Chris picking Yahya Black as a player to watch on the defensive line alongside Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton and Derrick Harmon? Plus they give an update on rookie QB Will Howard, who left practice with a hand injury.
Chris Rodell is an author, speaker, and storyteller. After graduating from Ohio University, he wrote for the Nashville Banner, National Enquirer, and many other large publications from 1992-2012 in addition to being a college professor. He won the 2018 TINARA Award for best satire for his debut novel and has since released 10 more books. Chris, his wife, and their two daughters live in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo analyze the offensive line struggles at Steelers training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. They ponder whether coach Mike Tomlin and OC Arthur Smith can get the inconsistency turned around ahead of the first NFL preseason game this week; whether Broderick Jones is in trouble after struggling against teammates Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig and T.J. Watt; and the challenge facing others including Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick and Troy Fautanu as they look to protect QB Aaron Rodgers and pave the way for RBs Jaylen Warren and Kaleb Johnson. Then later, they explain how the veteran days off for projected starters like Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, Jalen Ramsey and Keeanu Benton have given other players a chance to shine and prove that this defense has lots of useful players. They praise guys including Brandin Echols, James Pierre, Jack Sawyer, Yahya Black and Daniel Ekuale for their solid performances in team practice sessions, allowing the unit to maintain momentum against the struggling offense.
This week, Michael is joined by Steelers General Manager Omar Khan in a special episode from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, the home of Steelers Training Camp. We pay a lot of attention to quotes from Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers and WR DK Metcalf on Thursday.
