Send us a textI've been reading from a book titled, What an Owl Knows by Jennifer Ackerman. It was gifted to me by my husband because of my growing love for owls. I don't take it for granted that owls live in our neighborhood. In fact, each evening as the sun sets, I step outside and say, "Hello, owls! I love you," then stay still and listen for their calls back and forth between mates. Sometimes I'm blessed with a silent swoop and fly over. Okay, now imagine my shock when one day in early November an owl spoke back, "Hello!" it said, which caused me to question my sanity. Then it happened again. And once more. Then a flock of noisy Canadian geese flew overhead and broke the trance. But the voice in the tree I'd heard? It mimicked the sounds of the geese, took flight from a nearby tree. It was an owl!Well, I texted my precious soul sisters, Kate and Molly, then the next day, got busy researching owls and mimicry. I found my answer. It was an adolescent eastern screech owl, known at that age to be highly experimental with their vocalizations - learning how to lure in potential prey by sounding like kin - and this one was practicing. The event made me fall even deeper in love with these awesome birds. They deserve this dedicated episode. If you're still not certain...while researching, I found this passage from The Owl Pages online and couldn't fashion a better introduction to this subject than what writer, Deane Lewis wrote;"Throughout history and across many cultures, people have regarded Owls with fascination and awe. Few other creatures have so many different and contradictory beliefs about them. Owls have been both feared and venerated, despised and admired, considered wise and foolish, and associated with witchcraft and medicine, the weather, birth and death. Speculation about Owls began in earliest folklore, too long ago to date, but passed down by word of mouth over generations."I have the good luck to have regular visits from a few different species of owls, and they have delighted, surprised and mystified me this last year. I'll share one story at the close. Let's get into it!Show Reading/Viewing List:What an Owl Knows, Jennifer Ackerman on Amazon.comParliament of Owls - Myths of Owls in the Southwest, CHave you tried the GoodPods app yet? Naturally, as soon as Liv was ready to get settled in Toronto, she came down with a terrible cold and sounds half human half lawnmower, so today we're bringing you a little more ancient Rome, since it's all the rage right now. Liv dives (or perhaps wades into the shallows) of Roman mythology and religion, and tells the story of how the Phrygian goddess Cybele ended up in Italy.  CW/TW: far too many Greek myths involve assault. Given it's fiction, and typically involves gods and/or monsters, I'm not as deferential as I would be were I referencing the real thing. Liv dives (or perhaps wades into the shallows) of Roman mythology and religion, and tells the story of how the Phrygian goddess Cybele ended up in Italy. Help keep LTAMB going by subscribing to Liv's Patreon for bonus content! CW/TW: far too many Greek myths involve assault. Given it's fiction, and typically involves gods and/or monsters, I'm not as deferential as I would be were I referencing the real thing. Getting into a relationship can be a tough job. You sometimes do not know whether you are ready or not. Engaging in a relationship when you're not ready can be hurtful to the two of you. You might end up hurting each other in the end because you are not ready for the responsibility of a relationship. Astrology and your home play a role in love and relationships. In this episode, we have Kate Winds as she discusses all astrology and your house as to how it impacts your life and relationships. Standout Quotes: "Understanding your natal chart can give you great insight into different things about your life and it can even provide you some self-assurance that this is how I am. This is how I feel." [Kate] "When we look at the natal chart for love, we pay attention to Venus. Everyone has a Venus in their chart and Venus will sit in one of the 12 signs. Depending on what sign it sits in, and how it's intercepted by other planets, it can give you great insight into what you are looking for love." [Kate] "We're setting the intention for the universe or for God or whatever entity you believe in to provide you someone that will utilize that space in the closet." [Kate] "If you're ready to change your life, start looking at the home. It's one of the easiest ways, maybe even easier than therapy. Let's change some things up in our home to be able to get the energy moving and to start changing your life." [Kate] Key Takeaways: In the astrology side of relationships, the natal chart is seen to help give us an overview of our lives. It assures us that who we are, and what we feel are valid. As Venus is the Goddess of love and beauty in Roman Mythology, she is the one you should check when seeing the natal chart for love. Venus offers great insights when it comes to love. Everything in your life must be ready once you want to enter a relationship. Make sure you have the space to accommodate your significant other. This prepares us and gives fate a signal that you are ready. Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia rank as many peoples' favorite epic tales. These fantasy classics have stirred the imaginations and inspired good action in millions of people around the world. As such powerful stories, they are evident examples of how stories play a role in our virtue formation. I'm glad to welcome Louis Markos back to the show to help us to understand the virtue-forming power of stories and how these books inspire such virtue through discussing his book On the Shoulders of Hobbits: The Road to Virtue in Tolkien and Lewis. Louis and I begin our discussion by talking about the shaping experiences of C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien and why they are so influential today. He then explains why stories play such an important element in our lives. We finish off by examining the archetypes and classical virtues one can learn through the Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia. The United States Pluto Return: What's the Meaning?

Your Woo Woo Best Friend

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 3, 2022 49:07

Just like people have birth charts so do nations, and in the US we're up for a cosmic reboot. Astrologically speaking, a return, in this case Pluto return, is when a cosmic body returns to the same position in a birth chart where it was when the chart began. It happens around every 248 years, meaning that in February of 2022, we're experiencing the United States' first Pluto return since the country's 1776 founding.  So what does this mean for America? Well, in Roman Mythology, Pluto is known as the god of the underworld. Pluto is a mystifying planet of death, rebirth, power, evolution, and transformation. All of this points to the United States being in for a serious spiritual makeover.  America has Pluto in Capricorn in the 2nd house of money, material possessions, security, and values. Additionally, Capricorn is the sign of enterprise, infrastructure, ambition, dedication - Capricorn is often called the father of the zodiac. These concepts relate to traditional American values, the American dream, and the Patriarchy.  In astrology, this celestial body signifies the death of old traditions, the birth of new ones, and tearing down problematic, patriarchal tenets and law that are a part of America's DNA.   If you're like - woah, this sounds scary! and can it actually get any worse!? Here's the thing: we're already seeing this transformation take shape, Pluto moves slowly after all - this return began back in 2008. From political tensions, to the pandemic and what it's brought out for all of us, to protests against racial injustice, to the current stock market and crypto crash - these events align.  What else can you expect from the USA's big celestial transformation? Well, I've brought Spiritual Advisor and regular pod and blog contributor Chelsea Jewel on to give us the cosmic details and help us survive the United State's 2022 Pluto Return.
