What’s the best way to grow old? Are we over-parenting our kids? And how can I strike the right work-life balance? These are just a few of the questions Ravi Patel was struggling with. So the actor, filmmaker, husband and dad decided to explore how foreign cultures grapple with them. The result is Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness, a docu-series in which Ravi enlists his friends and family in overseas adventures in search of answers to life’s questions.Perhaps you caught Ravi’s 2014 hit documentary Meet The Patels, a funny and touching first-person family adventure in which Ravi enlists his traditional Indian parents in his search for love, leading him down a rabbit hole into the world of arranged marriages.Streaming on HBO Max, the new show digs even deeper — a poignant and timely deconstruction of American exceptionalism that ventures beyond buddy travelogue tropes.Today Ravi shares his story — and the many lessons learned along the way.Hardly your ordinary actor, this conversation begins with an exploration of Ravi’s unique path. His past life in investment banking. His current interest in health and wellness. His grapple with identity and indoctrination. And his sundry adventures navigating the vicissitudes of Hollywood. We then pivot to the many nuggets of wisdom Ravi has gleaned from his personal journey. And we tug on the questions explored in his Pursuit of Happiness travels to Japan, Denmark, South Korea and Mexico:Why are Americans so unhappy? How can you be a good parent? How do you find work life balance? And how can we responsibly promote inclusion for all?Recorded pre-election, this conversation is equal parts light-hearted and profound — a mix of laughs and uppercase Truths on all things love, partnership, parenting, purpose, and passion. It’s also a friendship origin story. The first of what I anticipate will be more conversations to come. The visually inclined can watch our exchange on YouTube. The first evidence of marriage ceremonies dates back to 2350 BC in ancient Mesopotamia, and since then cultures around the world have had their various interpretations of this practice. So in this episode, we (Luke and Yankı) have a conversation about the meaning of marriage—both specifically for us but also more generally as a cultural phenomenon. We talk about marriage rates, divorce rates, and how the general view towards marriage has changed in our cultures over time. We also wondered what the definition of marriage is and just how strict the marriage vows should be. What does it mean to make an oath that you can never leave? Is it good or bad to be stuck in a marriage? And when is it morally okay to leave? Also what role should love play in a marriage? Those questions don’t have definite answers, but they are great jumping off points to explore the psychological, spiritual, and evolutionary aspects of marriage. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the episode! Timestamps (clickable on https://exploringkodawari.blog/podcast-episodes/the-meaning-of-marriage/ (webpage)):[02:30] What is the definition of marriage? On the acting front, Ravi’s next appearance is in Gal Gadot and Chris Pine’s WONDER WOMAN 1984. Ravi is also co-creator and co-lead in Netflix’s upcoming half-hour comedy series MESSY, which follows an Indian woman pursuing her passion of stand-up comedy in Mumbai and is set to premiere this fall. He was most recently a lead in COME AS YOU ARE (97% on Rotten Tomatoes) opposite Hayden Szeto & Gabourey Sidibe, as well as the Seth Rogen/Charlize Theron comedy LONG SHOT, both of which premiered at SXSW 2019. The multi-hyphenate is also a prominent figure in the documentary space. His eagerly awaited docuseries RAVI PATEL’S PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS is set to premiere on HBO Max this year. Ravi acts as host, along with his loved ones, taking the audience across the globe while exploring life’s most pressing questions. Ravi is also creator and star of a docuseries exploring the emerging stand-up comedy scene in India, produced by Will Smith’s Westbrook. Ravi is most well-known for co-directing, and starring in MEET THE PATELS, a festival darling that has become one of the most streamed documentaries of the last five years. The film’s success led to an offer to adapt the documentary into a feature film through Fox Searchlight Pictures. Other notable credits include the critically-acclaimed MASTER OF NONE, IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, SCRUBS, HAWAII FIVE-0, GREY’S ANATOMY, CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, and THE COMEDIANS. Formerly an investment banker, Ravi is the co-founder of This Saves Lives, which donates a meal packet for every granola bar they sell. He is also an active advisor and board member to multiple food, health and wellness start-ups. He is currently based in LA with his wife (a therapist) and three year-old daughter (also a therapist).
Ravi Patel has been a lot of things– an investment banker, an actor, the co-founder of an organization that benefits undernourished children– but in recent years, he's set out to find the answers to life's big questions and to share what he finds with others. In this episode, Ravi joins Bob and Ben for a conversation about family, friends and what he discovered from traveling the world for his new series Ravi Patel's Pursuit of Happiness, which premieres August 24th on HBO MAX. Ravi Patel has appeared as an actor in several hit television shows, including Scrubs, Master of None and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and received multiple awards for his documentary, Meet The Patels, which he co-directed with his sister, Geeta. In 2013, he co-founded This Saves Lives w/ fellow actors Kirsten Bell, Ryan Devlin & Todd Grinnell to help alleviate child malnutrition around the world. And did we mention that his new show Ravi Patel's Pursuit of Happiness premieres August 24th on HBO MAX (seriously, it's fantastic- we hope you'll watch it!). Love audiobooks? Actor, Director and more, Ravi is one of a kind whether you like it or not. I was lucky enough to meet him on the set of our very cancelled tv show GRANDFATHERED and from that, I've been able to watch him be a hilarious character actor, direct a documentary and start a company that literally saves lives. We chop it up GOOD and talk about everything from how to be a good Dad, why it's better to be famous and how we're moving to Denver and or Charlotte and or Asheville.
Ravi Patel has been in over 70 national commercials, films and TV shows, most notably Transformers, Scrubs, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Comedians, Master of None, and Grandfathered BUT Ravi never intended on acting. In fact, Ravi planned on a career in finance. After faking his transcripts to secure a more reputable job, Ravi discovered that the finance world was not his cup of tea. His journey into acting is filled with serendipitously spontaneous adventures paving the way for Ravi being a recognizable face in your living room. An impromptu emcee job led to casting calls. A Ryan Seacrest billboard led to a stick figure drawn headshot that put Ravi’s natural improv skills on display in Michael Bay’s film Transformers. The well-circulated press trailer for Transformers was mostly Ravi’s small, but impactful, hilarious scene that grabbed the attention of a theatrical agent and several other opportunities in television. Before he was an international superstar following his smash hit, Meet The Patels, he was that fun guy you’d see [...].
Ravi Patel, an entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, filmmaker, actor - has become a steadily rising entertainment commodity since heading west a decade ago while building equity as someone who knows his way around a Wall Street business plan as well as a Hollywood soundstage. He currently serves as co-CEO of fast-growing snack/social enterprise company, he is star and co-director of MEET THE PATELS, an award-winning documentary that hit theaters this past September, and is also a series regular on a new Fox comedy which also premiered this past September. Finally, he is recently married, and his parents are pressing (too) hard for grandchildren. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theindustryshow/support

Recomendación de la docucomedia Meet The Patels en Netflix.
Hollister and O'Toole cover a lot of territory this week - as does Chelsea Handler in her new 4-part docuseries on Netflix (Marriage; Racism; Silcon Valley; Drugs). Hollister, who thinks we're becoming a nation of serial murderer series binge-watchers (seriously), swears she's going to take a murder hiatus - but not before discussing the BBC's new series London Spy (starring Ben Whishaw and Jim Broadbent). Also mentioned: Meet the Patels, The Staircase, Learning to Drive, and... Downton Abbey! Seatbelts on!
