Send us a textWhat motivates a successful college wrestler to leave their home state program for a new opportunity in their final year? Dean Peterson pulls back the curtain on this profound decision while sharing the complete arc of his wrestling journey. From backyard wiffle ball games with his brother to competing in packed Big Ten arenas, Peterson's path reveals the sacrifices, challenges, and triumphs that shape elite wrestlers. His early wrestling start at just four years old planted the seeds for what would become a lifelong passion—one that had him declaring Olympic dreams before he'd even started elementary school.Peterson offers rare insights into the unique wrestling culture of New Jersey, where competition is fierce and sometimes ruthlessly territorial. His high school years required extraordinary commitment, including daily hour-long commutes each way to train with elite coaches. Unlike many peers who pursued extreme weight management strategies, Peterson embraced a more sustainable approach that protected his long-term development—a philosophy influenced partly by a chance encounter with Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs. The conversation shifts to his collegiate experience at Rutgers, where injuries and illness complicated his redshirt year before he established himself as a formidable competitor. Peterson candidly discusses the realities of competing while sick, the politics of college wrestling, and the complex factors that ultimately led to his transfer to the University of Iowa for his final season. His forensic psychology studies and aspirations to continue into international freestyle wrestling add fascinating dimensions to his athletic journey.Whether you're a wrestling parent, athlete, or fan, Peterson's authentic perspective on navigating the sport's physical and mental challenges will resonate deeply. His story captures the essence of what makes wrestling simultaneously so demanding and rewarding—the constant pursuit of growth through adversity. NCAA Championships, Bo's new beef, and a possible look into how the UFC could change things up! This is one of the best podcasts we have put together in awhile and can't wait for y'all to listen.First the boys go over the NCAA Wrestling Championships from this past weekend. Obviously we know that Penn State came and blew every one out of the water including 4 guys winning individual national championships. Bo highlights some of the adversity that Carter Starochi faced while competing in the tournament with his injured knee. He also discusses his twitter battle with another well known wrestler Jordan Burroughs after Burroughs was making comments about attacking Carter's injured knee. Tony highlights how Tyler Kasak was able to take 3rd in the tournament after losing his very first match. The boys debate if that is harder than winning a national title in itself. Later, the team comments on the sheer dominance Penn State has had in the tournament in the past 20 years and making the argument that Cael Sanderson has created the greatest dynasty in all of sports.Moving on, the Ronan brings up the potential of the UFC becoming more team oriented. Tony talks about how they have done something like this in the past with The Ultimate Fighter. Bo brings up the point of how much more interesting it would be to have guys on teams and fans being able to cheer on individuals, but multiple guys on said hypothetical team. It would be very interesting to see a lot of new fighters working with one another if this were to occur and Bo talks about some guys he would love to have on his team.To round things out, the group breaks down the talk of MMA over the weekend and the bite that happened on Saturday night. How does that even happen?!?! The best part of it, the person that got bit not only got a tattoo, but $50,000 as well. Bo even talks about a couple times where he got bit in wrestling matches when he was younger.Thank you so much for the continued support and love on our recent shows! Love y'all ❤️

We first sat down with Jordan Burroughs on Without Compromise back in 2021. Last week, we interviewed him again, but this time, we hit the trail with him and his family. Check out that interview over on our new YouTube show, Take Two. Watch here: https://athleticbrewing.com/pages/take-two.In conjunction with the new Take Two episode, we wanted to reshare the 2021 interview we had with Jordan on the podcast. Since the chat, he's moved across the country, had another child, and won another world championship. Jordan Burroughs has one of the most medaled and storied careers of any American wrestler. That feat hasn't come easy, and it hasn't come without its losses. However, it's the day-to-day focus that Jordan credits keeping him on top of the competition well into his decade-long wrestling career. Learn what makes Jordan tick, how he makes the most of his time on and off the mat, and what it means to him to live without compromise. On Saturday, August 19th, Olympic gold medalist and six-time world freestyle wrestling champion Jordan Burroughs hosted a “Wrestling for All” clinic at The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center in Camden, NJ. Burroughs, a native of Camden attended Salvation Army summer camps and programs in his youth. During the day-long session, he and a team of fellow wrestlers demonstrated the stances, techniques, and drills that freestyle wrestlers practice for the sport. And after, the wrestlers shared their personal stories on how they got to where they are today. Burroughs, a devoted Christian, says he is grateful to partner with a like-minded organization like The Salvation Army. Burroughs said, “I could not have achieved what I have in life without my faith. If you ask me what is one thing that I could give to the world to instantly change it for the better, the first thing I say is faith and a connection with God. The second is wrestling.” To see if there's a Kroc center near you, visit https://www.kroccenter.org/
