This week, NYCB Music Director Andrew Litton leads us on a promenade through the Modest Mussorgsky score to Alexei Ratmansky's 2014 ballet Pictures at an Exhibition. Beginning with a little background on the composer's short but complicated life, colored by contemporary critiques of his "disregard" for musical conventions, Litton is joined by Piano Soloist Stephen Gosling as he demonstrates the ways in which Mussorgsky captured the subjects of a beloved artists' paintings in remarkably challenging piano pieces. The answer, tied to so many variables and factors, from all decades of cinema, across big screens and small, is quixotically and brilliantly subjective.  Sit back and listen to us discuss and debate Heat, Mad Men, The Sopranos, Killing Eve, Game of Thrones, A Bridge Too Far, Lawrence of Arabia, Catch Me If You Can, Walk the Line and so much more. You want to know your number – whether it's the precise amount you are getting paid, the precise amount you owe someone, or the precise amount you need to raise. In this episode, you'll hear Dennis and Kristine dive into five different money situations in which he will benefit greatly by stepping up and committing to doing business. ------------------------ More info about Kristine, plus additional resources and support (to help you start and grow a side hustle), are available at: CashflowForCreatives.com   Host: Kristine Oller Participant: Dennis Hensley / biz: Lifecast / game: You Don't Know My Life / podcast: Dennis Anyone? As a smart, talented creative you are totally capable of doing lots of things easily. But easy is different than doable. The question is do you have the energy to do it? Can you spare the bandwidth to do it? Can you create the space in which to do it? Those are the questions I encourage you to start asking – especially around all of the easy stuff.  In this episode, Kristine addresses some of Joanna's concerns about over-stuffing her schedule, missing opportunities, interviewing for new day jobs, and not giving her all at work. ------------------------ More info about Kristine, plus additional resources and support (to help you start and grow a side hustle), are available at: CashflowForCreatives.com Host: Kristine Oller Participant: Joanna Ke / film: Protectress / script biz: Script Masters Sponsor: AbundanceBound.com Music: Pictures of the Floating World

Like many side hustlers, Kim must ditch the fantasy of what she thinks her life or career or side hustle should look like or how it should function. In this episode, Kim shares some revelations she's had about carving out time to pursue her writing while juggling the responsibilities and the quote-unquote "rules" of being a mom, wife, daughter, friend, coach, and actress. Kim's goal of being a showrunner will only be sustainable if she's is able to handle the demands of being a showrunner – those are the muscles she is building now, day by day. ------------------------ More info about Kristine, plus additional resources and support (to help you start and grow a side hustle), are available at: CashflowForCreatives.com   Host: Kristine Oller Participant: Kimberly Griffin / biz: Kim Coaches Sponsor: AbundanceBound.com Music: Pictures of the Floating World

How you talk about what your side hustle has to offer will have a direct effect on your bottom line. Of course, you should never lie, but you can put the most positive spin on the truth as possible. Rather than worry about how potential clients are going to judge him and his product, Kristine shows Dennis how to use language to teach clients how they should be evaluating what he has to offer. Also in this episode, Kristine suggests a plan of action that would enable Dennis to raise the money he needs in the time frame that he has to pay a company to produce the first physical sets of his board game before the end of this year. We rarely ever see anyone else going through their early, ugly stages of something. That's why this episode is one of the most valuable ones in this series. Because Kim courageously and generously lets you witness her discomfort and vulnerability as she shares her first website videos with me and gets my feedback on them. It's important to remember that unless you shoot your first video, you can never shoot your best video. Without shooting this set of videos, Kim and Kristine would never have been able to have this useful conversation about Kim's branding and self-judgement.

Sometimes your choices – even your choice to build a side hustle – will make other people uncomfortable. And that's okay. As long as you are not doing something intentionally harmful to them, their discomfort is not a problem you are responsible to fix. In this episode, you'll hear several examples of Kim choosing to embrace ideas and interactions that make her feel temporarily uncomfortable rather than trying to evade the discomfort. Her willingness to be uncomfortable in order to grow and build her creative and business muscles is one of her greatest strengths. ------------------------ More info about Kristine, plus additional resources and support (to help you start and grow a side hustle), are available at: CashflowForCreatives.com   Host: Kristine Oller Participant: Kimberly Griffin / biz: Kim Coaches Sponsor: AbundanceBound.com Mentioned: Kristine's free weekly planning chart / Pretty Funny Women stand-up comedy class   Music: Pictures of the Floating World

Dennis is discovering that there are some things that can only be discovered or learned or figured out "on the job" – when he is actually doing the work of his side hustle.  Some of your best insights and ideas will be stumbled upon – and very often it will be through the mistakes you make that you find even better ways of doing things.   Every side hustler experiences the ups and downs inherent to entrepreneurship and Dennis is no exception.  In this episode, Kristine offers guidance to Dennis about how to keep his inner-self steady even when his external life feels shaky. As it happens for many side hustlers, it is taking Dennis some time to get used to being the boss.  The juggling act of maintaining boundaries with clients while still satisfying them makes him feel a bit awkward sometimes, but it's important for him – and for you – to be reminded that that feeling doesn't necessarily mean you are doing something wrong or that what you are doing isn't working. In this episode, Kristine encourages Dennis to step up and "do business" – to make clearly defined transactions, to set a sustainable schedule, and to tell himself more empowering stories. When I started doing some preliminary work last night for this week's podcast there was a few inches of snow on the ground. Now as I'm recording this, I look out the home office window, and I hardly see any snow except for a few shady spots. It's amazing how Oklahoma's weather works. Really nice day Friday, blizzard Saturday, nice day Sunday. But that is the old running gag here in the state, isn't it. If you don't like the weather wait a minute. That was very much true this weekend wasn't it. In The News: Some of the latest from the Oklahoma blog-o-sphere and the main street media Links mentioned in this episode: Music: Pictures:

As I record this podcast it's 32 degrees outside. How many of you are so ready for spring? There are many things you can do to get ready for spring, one of which is to start planning your garden. Here at the home office we've gotten a start our vegetable garden by planting some seeds in a starter tray. In fact that tray is about six feet away from me right now. We put it here in the office so we can keep an eye on it better, to make sure it gets plenty of water, and to make sure the cat stays out of it. In a few short weeks we'll see them sprout, and in a few weeks more after that we will be able to transfer them outside. Growing your own vegetables is a very worthwhile thing to do. And not to mention home grown tomatoes are the absolute best. Not only will it save you a little grocery money around harvest time; you'll get plenty of exercise working in your garden. He has manged to dig a trench in our backyard in a near perfect circle. At his parameter Widget is ever vigilant, barking at anyone walking down the alley or even a block away.
