In this 150th episode of WWJPod I sit down with none other than Ring Of Honor star and 2019 Top Prospect Tournament winner, ‘The Mile High Magnum’ Dak Draper. In this really fun interview Dak discusses his time in NXT, training with the amazing crop of wrestlers coming through the system and his interaction with many of the coaches and talent during that time. As well as his bond with trainer Nick Dinsmore and an hilarious Dusty Rhodes promo class story. Dak tells us about his very memorable time in Lucha Libre & Laughs as Sammy Six Guns, and why LLL will always hold a special place in his heart. Along with some brilliant stories of his time in the Denver based group. We discuss his time with the National Wrasslin League and of his development into the character we know today. Before joining the Ring of Honor dojo back in 2018, leading to his win in the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament, which helped to put him on the map as a full time member of the ROH roster. Dak also answers your listener questions, in this really fun interview. This is genuinely one of my most favourite interviews and guest I have had on the podcast. This week's episode of The Genius Cast is jam-packed with great content! We have two important guests, Kevin Kelly, the voice of New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Nick Dinsmore, formerly known as "Eugene" of WWE! In a special interview taped from Shibuya, Japan, Kevin Kelly opens up to Lanny about being taken to task by fans and how he handled the critics when he first started off as play-by-play announcer of New Japan back in October 2015. He talks reaching out to fans on social media to learn and understand NJPW more at a deeper level, the joy of watching the progression of Lanny and Mavs Gillis as commentators from their first shows up until now while also offering advice to Lanny to help him earn his spot to come back to New Japan as color commentator in the future. Over Kevin's 28-year plus career in wrestling, his work in New Japan is what he is most proud and he explains why and so much more. In our well-anticipated interview with Nick Dinsmore, he looks back on being a ten-time Heavyweight Champion and eleven-time Southern Tag Team Champion in OVW working alongside Jim Cornette and Rip Rogers while training Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, John Cena, and Dave Batista, what it was like to wrestle in WCW when they were beating WWF in the Monday Night Wars, accidentally walking into the nWo locker room, wrestling as Doink the Clown and one half of the Los Conquistadores tag team, the lie he told that resulted in him getting called up to the main roster in WWE, sharing a ring with the likes of The Rock, Hulk Hogan, and Vince McMahon, road stories with Tajiri and William Regal, his feelings on how WWE handled the "Eugene" character, whether or not he thinks it would work in today's society, life after WWE, his Midwest All Pro Wrestling promotion in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (follow @midwestallpro), and so much more! Nick also sits in the interviewer chair and asks Lanny some hard-hitting questions with one particular question challenging Lanny's claim that his brother was an upstanding citizen who was never arrested! Two heartfelt and open conversations you do not want to miss!! Also in this week's show: Lanny's history with the NWA, the perks and pitfalls of running against NWA territories as opposed to being a member of the NWA when with ICW, who Lanny wishes he had the chance to hit between the eyes with a frisbee, unusual stories on Iron Mike Sharpe and his extreme OCD, records Lanny used to break in the gym, and so much more! Pull back the curtain with The Genius Cast with Lanny Poffo and JP Zarka of ProWrestlingStories.com each Monday from 12 p.m. GMT / 7 a.m. ET / 6 a.m. CST / 4 a.m. PST. Got questions for our show? The Malliard Report hosted by Jim Malliard has joined Take 2 Radio as a special host to talk about all things paranormal and more! Listen to his shows every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 7pm Eastern. SAT. OCT. 28TH 7PM EASTERN: GUEST: Nick Dinsmore, for those of you who also enjoy the paranormal and wrestling together, might know him better as WWE wrestler Eugene, who is also a former World Tag Team Champion, with his partner William Regal. Starting off with Jim Malliard wanting to talk about what fascinates our guest when it comes to the Paranormal. From there, it’s an interesting time in the first half of the show. The first topic of discussion covering ancient aliens and whether or not our guest Nick Dinsmore believes in them or not, of which our guest provides his opinion and an interesting insight into what he believes. The second half becomes a bit more personal and delves more into the character and personality of our guest, delving more into the past when Jim Malliard asks our guest how he got started in wrestling and everything. From there the discussion moving towards his career in the WWE, and where all Nick Dinsmore has wrestled at, and if he has any favorite place that he’s wrestled at that he has fond memories of, moving onto his thoughts and feelings on traveling, and who all he’s worked with, as well as if there was anyone he enjoyed working with, and anyone he wished to have worked with. All of it of course interest that all fans of both the paranormal, and wrestling would enjoy listening in on.
On this week's special hour-long Main Event, Cerrito and 5 Starr are joined by former WWE star Eugene (aka Nick Dinsmore) and former world champion James Storm. Plus, the guys talk about the giveaway for this season's Grizzlies Wrestling Night and reveal next week's two big guests.
Episode 59 is a gem of an episode. Do you know who Austin Bradley is? Well you will! Bradley started training right out of high school at 18 with Nick Dinsmore at OVW. Also helping with his training were names like Rip Rogers, and Al Snow. He talks about his training, working for OVW, and his first match, as well as how Rip Rogers hilariously made sure he lost his case of nerves beforehand! He covers working with guys like Rob Terry, Jay Bradley, and King Mo in OVW, and his close friendship that developed with Mo. He goes over his departure from OVW, and calls out someone who claims to have had a hand in his training, but in fact had none at all. He goes over working for D1W and Rick Brady. He discusses meeting Madman Pondo, and how helpful Pondo has been in his career. We touch on his successful tag team #Spotlight/Danger Zone with Kyle Maverick, and working with Tracy Smothers. He tells the story about his first concussion, and about working an IPPV match shortly thereafter with Adam Gooch. Austin has also had some experience working for the Insane Clown Posse in JCW, including a death match with the one and only Necro Butcher. We talk about that and his other experiences there, and all over the mid south, until he got the invite to Japan. Austin trained with and wrestled for Zero One in Japan, and he talks about that as well as the cultural differences and how he took to them. He also happened to be in Japan during two major earthquakes, one while extremely hungover after a sponsor dinner! He tells the tale of how Zero One helped after the disaster, the press coverage, and how it made him feel. And finally we go over his injury that unfortunately led to him being sent home, and we talk about his future, both here in the states, and in Japan and possibly England. Austin is a confident, talented kid, and I see big things for him all over the world, in professional wrestling. Please check out Austin Bradley on his Facebook page, and follow his work in promotions like IWA East Coast, ASW, and Resistance Pro, as well as Zero One in Japan. And please check out the Creative Control official t shirt store at prowrestlingtees.com/ccwithjoefeeneyCurrently a t shirt purchase comes with a free surprise gift!
