So if you're a regular listener to Oven-Ready you'll know that at the end of each season we put together a couple compilation episodes called Oven-Ready Reheated looking again at some of Season 4's themes and best bits. Season 4 of the show has been hugely popular with some fantastic interviews so thanks again to all of my exceptional guests. Remember all of the seasons shows are available at ovenreadyhr.com or wherever you get your podcasts from but here are some tasty appetisers: Paul Nowak, Deputy General Secretary of the UK's Trades Unions Congress explains how the media characterisation of a them and us relationship between unions and employers is unhelpful. Paul also tells me how he started his trades union journey. The jobs market is apparently white hot so I sat down with Nick Croucher the lead UK partner for global HR search and recruitment firm Frazer Jones. In this segment, I talk to Nick about the trend to appoint non HR practioners to senior HR roles and whether professional HR qualifications are really worth it. Lord Hendy QC widely acknowledged as one of the UK's leading experts in employment law has recently introduced his own bill called the Status of Workers Bill to simplify the UK's confused position on who is and isn't an employee, His bill will also extend employment protections to millions more of the country's most vulnerable workers. In this segment, I put it to Lord Hendy that it's often confusing to establish if an individual is an employee a worker or something else! In the following segment I ask Lord Hendy if his bill will raise costs for employers and I asked him if he thought this was a price worth paying? Sticking on the legal theme, I talk to Nick Hurley, Divisional Managing Partner in the employment practice at Charles Russell Speechleys about expected developments in UK employment law. Here Nick explains a little more about the Governments pledge to make a request for flexible working a right from the get go. Thanks to interventions from individuals such as Michele Obama in the US and TV personality Davina McCall in the UK, the menopause at long last has been recognised a major work place issue. I turned to Anne-Marie Yates and DR Lynne Green from Kooth, the UK's longest established digital mental health provider to share both their own experiences and what enlightened employers should be doing. First up Anne Marie explains why she thinks we're now having a proper conversation about the menopause. Dr Lynne then explains why she believes employers have a moral duty to consider the impact of the menopause on women in the workplace. If like me you're constantly checking your phone you might benefit from a digital detox. Hector Hughes co-founder of the digital detox business Unplugged explains how his customers feel when they emerge from one of his digital detox cabins having been separated from their devices.A final compilation of the last 7 interviews of Season 4 available next week.Resources:https://ovenreadyhr.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/podcasthost/Twitter: @OvenHrhttps://www.personneltoday.com

His Hawaiian mother was a notable Hula Dancer, and his Arkansas born father was a multi-instrumentalist that loved Country Music. It was a foregone conclusion that Kimo would someday be in the music industry. He started playing in bands with his dad at the age of 12, shortly after learning the guitar. It was this early exposure to making music that lit his fire.Kimo met band mates Monty DeVita in elementary school, and James Blaylock in High School, and with some member changes over the years, they became one of the top country bands on the West Coast in the early 90's.Kimo moved to Nashville, TN in 1994, and quickly found himself immersed in the scene. He ran a successful demo recording studio out of his home and began touring with many great artists, including David Lee Murphy, John Michael Montgomery and Country Music Hall of Fame Members, Alabama, whom he still tours with today. However, he knew his bond with his musical brothers, Monty and James, would always be his focus and passion. Kimo feels Cash Creek has just begun to communicate their message, and they have so much more to say..

Happy Holidays, one and all! It’s Channel 101’s Adam Garland & Erin Pearce on this one, they’ve been at the helm of 101 for a few years now, holding the fort, pocket-funding live events, turning it into a legit business.. all the while creating wonderful shows like “Story Hole” and this year’s Best Show at the 2020 Channies, “Breadtown”. Since I had the delightful Nick Hurley on the podcast and started finally vomiting love all over the Channel 101 universe, Erin and Adam have become somewhat familial in a sense, and this may sound crazy but yeah, like cousins almost. I love’m. They’re super creative, hard working, hilarious and I don’t know how they do so much.. but among things they produce on an ongoing basis, is content on Twitch, Patreon, Channel 101 the website, as well as virtual monthly screenings (during the pandemic) and Frequency 101… not without help or collaboration of course, but props nonetheless! Clearly I was overwhelmed by joy and happiness finally talking with these two, and I hope you’ll enjoy it also. We go now to L.A., chatting with actor, writer, creator and more; including more recently a Channel 101 official podcast co-host... Nick Hurley! He's starred in such awesome shows as: "Demon$", "Thiefs" and the 10-episode (with extended finale) epic "Street Cleaning", which won for best editing at the 2016 Channy Awards. Nick seems like an all-around great person, and it was a blast talking shop-and-non-shop with someone who does, and participates in making stuff, and the kind of stuff I've been a longtime fan of! We started off talking about what Channel 101 is, and get introduced into the world of what it is offline, in Los Angeles, California, where’s it’s based. We talk about where it’s been, where it’s going (in these… times… gah… y’know…). Then we talk about all things Nick Hurley; his experiences, his work, and his existential journey working while making - what feels like the hustle, and what feels like the side hustle? I FOUND it all compelling, and it wasn’t the worst hosting I’ve done either! Please enjoy our chat. I even included some clip interludes, of audio from some sketch comedy and 101 shows! This episode is recorded live at Glowforge, makers of a 2D laser cutter—but it's not a sponsored episode and we don't talk about the hardware much at all. Instead, it's conversation about what people are trying to make and how to get started as a creator. I talk with Glowforge founder (and my friend) Dan Shapiro, and the company's two content designers, Shell Meggersee and Nick Taylor, who spend a lot of their time talking to new and experienced makers as they work with their laser equipment. They offer some great insight and a lot of encouragement. A few lovely quotes that struck me on listening to the recording afterwards: Nick: “I wonder if we're teaching them how to fail gracefully, rather than how to be successful?” Shell: “There's some subtle psychology in the fact that, ‘Oh, the machine messed up! Oops! It wasn't me!'” Dan: “Tools that help you become an amateur are so wonderful…it gets you to that point where you have some small degree of self-sufficiency and creativity.” (Glowforge did sponsor an episode earlier in the current season; this episode was entirely my idea and no money changed hands. However, if you're thinking about buying a Glowforge, you can use this referral link and get $100 to $500 off purchase price depending on the model. I receive the same amount as a referral fee, which helps support the podcast.) Patrons This episode is also brought to you in part by Disruptor-level patrons Bob Owen, Garrett Allen, Michael Warner, Nick Hurley, and Nicholas Santos. You can become a patron of the show on a one-time or recurring basis, and get rewards like an exclusive enamel pin and being thanked in this fashion! Guest biographies Dan Shapiro sold his last company to Google. His last side project was Robot Turtles, the best-selling board game in Kickstarter history. He builds drones, authored Hot Seat: The Startup CEO Guidebook, and his seven-year-old twins regularly beat him at the game Werewolf. You can listen to the New Disruptors episode on Robot Turtles (episode 59, January 2014). Shell Meggersee has worked in film, TV and video games, bringing everything from giant 3D monsters to well-known cartoon characters to life. At night, you might find her designing anything from vinyl toys to couture bedding fabric to intricate wedding invitations. Nick Taylor has spent the last 12 years completing hundreds of projects including custom headphones, bespoke bicycles, desktop furniture, and lighting. Before joining Glowforge, Nick spent 5 years at Apple and ran his own company making artisanal leather goods. Show notes Service bureaus for 2D cutting and 3D printing abound.
