It has been a long time coming, but after 1,891 days in captivity, Nick Rowe became one of only 37 prisoners to successfully escape from Vietcong prisons and make it back to friendly forces. This is the culminating event of his five years to freedom. The helicopter that picked him up radioed ahead and a large crowd gathered to welcome him home. After escaping, Rowe found out that he had been promoted twice in captivity and was now a major. The American POWs are split up as the Vietcong continue their reeducation efforts to get them to confess to "crimes against the Vietnamese people." Knowing his health is headed south, Lieutenant Nick Rowe decides he needs to try to escape before it's too late. Sure, escape is risky, but even if he dies in the process, he figures it is better than sitting around waiting to starve to death. The introduction and transition music heard on the podcast is composed and recorded by the eldest Ghosts of Arlington, Jr. While the rest of his catalogue is quite different from what he's performed for me, you can find his music on bandcamp.com under the names Caladrius and Bloodfeather. As always, a very special thanks to Mountain Up Cap Company for its continued help to spread the word about the podcast on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/MountainUpCapCompany Climb to Glory! For more information about the podcast visit: ·       The GoA website: https://www.ghostsofarlingtonpodcast.com    ·       Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ghostsofarlingtonpodcast·       Twitter: https://twitter.com/ArlingtonGhosts·       Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ghostsofarlington/

Captivity at the hands of the Vietcong continues to bring hardships to Captain Rocky Versace, Lieutenant Nick Rowe, and Sergeant Dan Pitzer. Versace has been separated from the group, though two new prisoners, Army Master Sergeant Ed Johnson and Army Sergeant Len Tadios join Rowe and Pitzer. After attacking a guard and a second round of failed reeducation attempts, Rowe is labeled a hard case - similar to Versace's classification last week - and is told he will be shipped off a new camp, one less lenient than the already strict camps he has been in up to this point.

Today I chat with Elana Justin of Motive Black. Her debut album is dropping and after I had a chance to listen to it, I asked if she would do the podcast. I knew we'd have a great talk about the album. How could we not? It was produced by Nick Rowe who's worked with Madonna, Vampire Weekend, Snoop Dogg, & Lamb of God, among others; but it also features a duet with Carla Harvey of Butcher Babies, a guitar cameo by Marcos Curiel of P.O.D., and Ray Luzier, drummer for KoRn, is all over the place!  The album has taken a long time to come to fruition. And there are a lot of reasons why. But none more important than her sister, Mia. It's no stretch to say that this album was created for her. But it took a lot of life in New York to get Elana to LA to create the album, Auburn. It's a story that you have to hear. But make sure you have some tissue nearby.  The album is an energetic, loving tribute and I couldn't recommend it more. It's out this week, so pick it up wherever you get your music. As soon as Viz Media announced last year that they would be bringing this series over, we just knew we had to talk about it! If you're new to Fist of the North Star, then this podcast is for you, as we stick to mainly discussing Volume 1 in particular and why we think its such a great start to the series! We also discuss why the series is so beloved and influential even almost 30 years after its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump, as well as how it succeeds in not only being a hilariously violent and over the top action series, but also a very down to earth gripping human drama filled with a ton of tragedy. Nick Rowe is a professor of economics at Carleton University in Ottawa, a member of the CD Howe Institute’s Monetary Policy Council and of Carlton University’s Centre for Monetary and Financial Economics, and a popular blogger at "Worthwhile Canadian Initiative." He developed an interest in macroeconomics as he came of age in the United Kingdom during the high inflation period from the late 1960s to 1970s. Nick joins the show to discuss some of the basics of monetary economics and argues that money is the critical factor that distinguishes macroeconomics from microeconomics. He also shares his thoughts on helicopter money, which he thinks is “small beer” or not as big a deal as commentators make it out to be. Finally, David and Nick also discuss some helpful analogies Nick has used to illustrate economic concepts including “Milton Friedman’s thermostat” – how a good thermostat works like a good central bank!
