Send us a textTitle: Singing the Psalms – Rediscovering Worship Through Psalm 23The ancient poetry of Psalm 23 has comforted hearts for generations, offering assurance, peace, and powerful reminders of God's shepherding presence. In this episode, we take a deep and reflective look at this timeless Psalm—through translations both old and new—and uncover how its words still meet us in the most personal ways.Alongside Mark, we compare versions from the historic Coverdale translation to the more modern NIV, and even explore how these different renderings all echo the same eternal truth: “The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” These aren't just poetic lines—they're powerful declarations of divine provision and presence. But this episode is about more than translation—it's about transformation. We dive into the story of Paul and Silas in Acts 16, imprisoned yet singing hymns and psalms as chains clung to their ankles. Their choice to worship in the darkest moment brought about a literal earthquake of freedom. Why? Because Scripture-based worship has power. It speaks God's truth back to Him, reshaping the atmosphere and reminding our souls of who He is.We contrast this with some trends in modern worship that tend to focus more on human emotion than on God's glory. While heartfelt expression is important, there is something uniquely potent about worship rooted in God's own Word. It realigns our perspective, shifting the focus from our feelings to His faithfulness. Our discussion includes a fascinating look at churches that still sing Psalms metrically as their core expression of praise. This ancient yet enduring practice offers not only theological depth but a sacred intimacy—singing Scripture as it was originally intended. For anyone longing for spiritual renewal or craving more from their worship, this episode opens the door to something rich, reverent, and deeply rooted in biblical tradition.Whether you're familiar with Psalm 23 or hearing it anew, this conversation will rekindle your love for God's Word and offer practical insight into how the Psalms can reshape your prayer and worship life today.Let the shepherd of Psalm 23 lead you into deeper peace, purpose, and praise—one inspired verse at a time.Psalm 23 devotional podcast, power of singing Psalms, worship through Scripture, Acts 16 Paul and Silas worship, metrical Psalms in church, historical Bible translations, Coverdale vs NIV Psalms, God-centered worship practices, biblical songs in worship, how Psalms shape faith, praying through Psalm 23, spiritual strength through worshipSupport the showhttps://www.pastorbencooper.co.uk/https://www.rbchristianradio.net/ buymeacoffee.com/reverendbencooper

How to Find Hope When You're Hopeless Genesis 15:1-4 After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” 2 But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.” 4 Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” (NIV) Romans 4:18 Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” (NLT) Romans 4:19-21 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. (ESV) Romans 4:20 Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. (NLT) Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. (NIV) 1. Focus on Faith not Facts Romans 4:19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. (ESV) Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (NIV) 1 John 5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (NIV) Matthew 7:7 Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (NIV) Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (NIV) Psalms 27:13-14 I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. (NIV) Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (NIV) 2. Focus on how good God is not on how bad you are Romans 4:20-21 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. (ESV) Genesis 15:1 After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” (NIV) Psalm 141:8 But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death. (NIV) Psalm 25:15 My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. (NIV) Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (NIV) 3. Focus on what you can do and not on what you can't do

In today's world, with all its uncertainties, we need to reflect more on the legacy we are leaving for the next generation. As Christians, we have a responsibility to pass on not only material wealth but also spiritual guidance and values. Our legacy should be one of purpose, integrity, and faith, inspiring those who come after us to serve, honor, and fear the Lord. In this episode, we will explore the importance of leaving a rich inheritance that goes beyond money and discuss practical ways to shape a legacy that truly matters. We all have the power to choose the kind of legacy we want to leave behind. Will our legacy be one of promise and purpose, or will it be one of sorrow and selfishness? It's a decision only we can make. By aligning our actions, choices, and priorities with the legacy we desire to live, we shape a future filled with hope, inspiration, and positive change. BIBLICAL REFERENCE: PROVERBS 13:22:  "A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous." (NIV) PSALMS 145: 4: “One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.”(NIV)   Links Mentioned in this Episode: Get Your Speak Life Affirmation Audio   SUBSCRIBE | SHARE | RATE | COMMENT  To ensure you never miss an episode, be sure to subscribe or follow on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever you listen to podcasts. So this is not a podcast where you can multitask while you listen. I'm not trying to give you new information or things to consider like other podcasts. I love those kinds of podcasts. But in this podcast I'm wanting to give you an experience. I want you to learn to reintegrate your body with your mind's awareness so that you can notice the “red flag” when you feel tension or anxiety in your body. It's a red flag that you're experiencing a vertical disconnect with God. And I want you to experience what a vertical connection feels like through envisioning the unseen reality of God's presence in this moment and his presence in your body by his Holy Spirit. If your podcast app is set to skip the silent sections, disable that in your podcast app for this podcast. Romans 11:36 - 12:2 (NIV) We now know that that verse is neurologically true. Neuroplasticity. Neurons that fire together wire together.  We now know through recent neuroscience and advanced imaging technology that our brains are constantly re-wiring to match our experiences and our environment. And what we do, what we see, what we say, what we think, how we react or respond to perceived threats is always changing our brain in our neurons and connections between neurons. This is why we can get good at a new skill like typing on a keyboard or playing scales quickly on an instrument or playing a sport. And we can change our brains to get better and better at responding to perceived threats with stress and anxiety. Or we can get better and better at perceiving God's presence in all his ruling power and goodness and steadfast love in those situations instead. All by being transformed by the renewing of your mind — the rewiring of your brain. The Bible has been telling us this all along even if neuroscience is only recently discovering it. “Being transformed by the renewing of your mind” is literally, physiologically, rewiring your brain — which in part happens through the practice of Christian meditation — to see each moment in your life through the lens of the reality of who God is and what it really means that he is always 100% present in each moment you face. And the fundamental truth with which to renew your mind is Romans 11:36, “From him, through him, and for him are all things.” Vs. the pattern of this age — “My life is my own. Living for ME.” Almost every cultural influencer in this age is going to try to convince you to shape/form yourself and your life after that pattern. But is it true? Is it real? Are you the creator of yourself? Is your life really from you and through you and for you? If you're a follower of Jesus, deep inside you know the answer to that. And you need to actively renew your mind by meditation on the true answer — and if you do you will experience transformation instead of conformity.  The other passages we've looked at: Revelation 4:11 Hebrews 2:10 (NIV) Acts 17:25 (NIV) Acts 17:28 1 Corinthians 8:6 (NIV) Colossians 1:16-17 (NIV) Psalms 119:73 (NIV) Daniel 5:23 NIV Who can you share this podcast with? Episode Summary:  Kristin Clouse and I talk about how to find healing from abuse and trauma to walk in the fullness of who God created you to be. Healing from abuse is possible for all through Jesus. We talk about overcoming shame, breaking the power of secrecy, and more. Quotables from the episode: Healing from abuse is possible for all through Jesus.  Nothing of no one is beyond restoration with our Jesus.  The love of God and counsel of Godly people helped heal me. Shame often misappropriately dictates our identity, value, and self-worth.  What happened to me doesn't dictate my present or future.  I know where I was. I know the despair, brokenness, and destructive places I came from. Jesus found me, healed me, and set me back on the path He created me for. I believe this is for every woman.  It is possible to live a life where no longer our past dictates our present and our future.  Ignoring abuse or trauma doesn't mean pain and resulting issues go away on their own.  Challenge your shame-led thoughts with the truth of God's word.  Nothing and no one is beyond the restoration of Jesus. What He did for me, He can do for you.  The first step is to bring your story to the light. Find someone who you trust, who you can share your story with.  When we break the power of secrecy off of our lives, healing can begin, and shame can be broken off of our lives.  One of the ways we attempt to cope with abuse is by shutting all the memories and pain away inside of us. We lock them up and try to ignore them.  All that energy you use to escape your past, use to fight for your future.  You are worth fighting for because Jesus died for you.  Scripture References: Psalms 23:3 "He restores my soul." (NKJV) Psalms 34:18 "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. And saves those who are crushed in spirit." (NIV) Psalms 147:3 "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Week 3, and it's getting good!  My guests, Mary L. Page and Dr Knight, and I share how the Lord speaks to us and what we do when we get tired of God, and the things of God.  When we feel overwhelmed (the "O" word), bad things happen.  The "O" word can cause us to believe those shadows of death are real.  We share some tools that help us rest before the Lord makes us lay down.  What do green pastures and still waters look like in your life that restores your soul?  Join us as we share ours.   Tools that helped with this episode: Mat 11:30 - For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (NIV) Psalms 23:2-3 - 2. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3. he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. (The Passion Translation - TPT) Psalms 61: (The Passion Translation) Hear my cry, O God;     listen to my prayer. 2 From the ends of the earth I call to you,     I call as my heart grows faint;     lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For you have been my refuge,     a strong tower against the foe. 4 I long to dwell in your tent forever     and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.[b] 5 For you, God, have heard my vows;     you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. 6 Increase the days of the king's life,     his years for many generations. 7 May he be enthroned in God's presence forever;     appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him. 8 Then I will ever sing in praise of your name     and fulfill my vows day after day.   Psalms 46:10 (The Passion Translation) 10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;     I will be exalted among the nations,     I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 The Lord Almighty is with us;     the God of Jacob is our fortress.     Radio Show airs on: www.wkby1080.net , 2 pm & 10 pm ET, 11 am & 7 pm PT on WKBY 1080 AM (Chatham, VA).   *** The RZNGMEN Show can also found on iTunes & Spotify!! ***

Congregation Beth Hallel and Rabbi Kevin Solomon

We are living in such a troubling time. We are suffering. Our country is suffering and the question that we are faced with is how should we respond?  Rabbi Kevin Solomon answers this question by revealing that Jeremiah's lament over the destruction of Jerusalem provides a road map for how we should respond to our current circumstance. The key is: “hashivenu” - “restore.” G-d is the one who will renew our strength if we turn to Him.  Key scriptures: https://www.bible.com/bible/111/lam.5.21.niv (Lamentations 5:21); https://www.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.80.5.NIV (Psalms 80:5), https://www.bible.com/bible/111/psa.80.7 (7); https://www.bible.com/bible/111/PSA.51.10-12.NIV (Psalm 51:10-12); https://www.bible.com/bible/111/2ch.6.28-31.niv (2 Chronicles 6:28-31); https://www.bible.com/bible/111/1PE.5.6-11.NIV (1 Peter 5:6-11) http://www.bethhallel.org/CMS/programs/prayer/prayer-requests/ (Prayer Requests) or send an email to info@bethhallel.org http://www.bethhallel.org/CMS/ (CBH Website) https://www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=FBVL4JZH8HVS4&fbclid=IwAR19RR1jdV7cK1mqt1MRWavfjLiipHtYnSv97g8u3s09JWM2q-pDtq90pcA (Donate) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7EfRTmLFyvapAVb7q64PoA (YouTube Channel) Support this podcast

Bible verse for meditation: NIV Psalms 46:9-11 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. 10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. KJV 9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. 10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. What does this scripture mean to you? Has it had a different effect this reading as compared to times past? How does this scripture make you feel? Continue breathing deeply as you ponder this meaning. Meditation on scripture / bible verse meditation: I love this scripture. Be still and know that I am God. It’s message is so profound. I was talking with Carter this week and he brought up this scripture in our conversation. I thought I had covered it previously because of how much I love it. When I found that I hadn’t covered it I was touched deeply in my heart in that unmistakable way that I have come to recognize as the spirit of God moving in my heart. What I believe that means is that we need this scripture right now. Many times we feel great exhaustion when we spend so much mental and spiritual energy fighting the good fight. We weary ourselves in this effort. We find ourselves stressed fearful and downright exhausted. He will end all wars, this includes the war in our hearts. He breaks the weapons we use in war. When we have done all we can and it is not enough to overcome, we can Be still and know that He is God. He existed before the formation of our universe, he existed before our galaxy, before humans lived on earth. He will be exalted for all time and beyond. And what is even more miraculous than that is that he has stated that he wants to be with us. The Lord of Hosts is with us. Be still. Know that He is God. Open your heart to Him so that you can feel that the Lord of Hosts is with you, right now. Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling being patient for your own faults and trials. Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation: Meditate and Visualize Positive Change in Your Life: Final Question: How can you be blessed by being still? Our lives are not meant to be universally easy. Above that, we are not meant to be still our whole lives waiting for God to do His work. In the scriptures he lovingly invites us to participate in his great work. I am humbled by this because I know so many of my weaknesses. Despite this, we go to work in his vineyard as best as we can. When we get stuck we can trust that he is the one who carries us. We can rely on him in faith.   FIND ME ON: iTunes Facebook ChristianMeditationPodcast.com Youtube Twitter Pintrist
