EP 128: Mocktails, pickleball, midlife friendships & marriage and top health hacks….did I peak your interest? Do you ever wonder why you feel so stuck in midlife? Part of it is that we aren't experimenting and trying new things. We made our kids try new sports or take that random art class, yet we don't apply the same expectations to ourselves as midlifers. In this episode, I'm joined by long-time friend, cooking instructor and Instagram phenomenon, Pamela Salzman. We are covering midlife health, routines, keeping your brain sharp and so much more. Pamela is sharing her experiences as an entrepreneur, empty-nester, and health influencer. We also talk about realigning midlife friendships and finding inspiration in “non traditional” paths for midlife pivot. And, we of course talk about marriage and our husbands. This was such a fun and layered conversation, I loved deep diving in Pamela's life and you will appreciate her candor with her midlife advice. YOU CAN ALSO WATCH ON YOUTUBE! We met in person for this midlife talk! In this episode of Nateurious, you’ll learn from a fellow Italian and expert on quick, nutritious cooking, Pamela Salzman. With a popular blog, two cookbooks, online cooking classes, and a 4-week plant-based bootcamp, Pamela has shown that healthy meals can be made in just 30 minutes, so long as you use the proper ingredients and cookware. Many people don’t realize the amount of toxins present in their daily diets. By making some simple changes—like opting for tomatoes packaged in glass jars instead of aluminum cans, using unrefined oils, and steering clear of non-stick pans—you can dramatically reduce your exposure to heavy metals. Not only will this improve your overall health, it will give you youthful, glowing skin (an absolute must for my Agent Nateur women). Needless to say, this episode is guaranteed to change the way you think about healthy eating. Tune in to learn all about Pamela’s new book, Quicker Than Quick, her efficient approach to making family meals, the secret to purchasing clean ingredients without breaking the bank, key ways to streamline the way you cook, and more. Pamela Salzman is a Los Angeles-based natural foods cooking instructor and certified holistic health counselor. She teaches private, healthful cooking classes throughout Los Angeles and the South Bay. Pamela’s much-anticipated debut cookbook, Kitchen Matters, was released on June 13th, 2017 through Da Capo, an imprint of Hachette. Both practical and elegant, Kitchen Matters answers the most common questions heard in Pamela’s classes, weekly meal plans, tips on how to create a balanced meal, how to prep ahead, and how to make substitutions for the most common allergens and dietary restrictions. It is the ease with which Pamela approaches food and nutrition that has established such a dedicated following. Her business grew organically, and within a very short amount of time, she was teaching private cooking classes 5-days per week. She inspires her clients, who range from stay at home moms to A-list actresses and fashion designers, to get back in the kitchen and cook real food. "Isn't she amazing?" raves Pamela’s regular client, designer Jenni Kayne. "I couldn't boil water, and now I regularly make dinner." Pamela is also skilled at substitutions, making healthier swaps and elevating traditional recipes to another level. With every dish, she encourages her clients to take steps toward a more whole-foods based diet, with conscious thoughts to its impact on the environment. Pamela found her calling after volunteering as a nutrition docent in an elementary school for the nonprofit organization Growing Great. She recognized a huge problem in our society and wanted to help people grasp the importance of proper nutrition and eating REAL food. She was asked to teach a healthy cooking class for a group of young mothers, and from that first day her message and mission were clear: Eat Well. Live Well. Be Well. Pamela’s love of food began at an early age, and as a child she delighted in working in the family vegetable garden with her father and cooking with her mother. Although the food she grew up with was never fancy, it was always real, wholesome and nourishing. Her large Italian-American family frequently gathered together for simple meals – with long tables of bowls and platters piled high, complete with plenty of laughter and conversation to go around. In addition to teaching classes, Pamela also authors a successful food blog, where she shares her favorite recipes and offers practical kitchen advice and tips on healthy living. She has appeared on “The Today Show,” Hallmark’s “Home & Family,” and “KTLA” multiple times. Pamela is a recipe developer for Clean Eating and contributes recipes and videos regularly for The Chalkboard Mag, Rip+Tan and HowYouGlow. In addition, Pamela has been featured in Elle, Allure, Vogue.com and C Magazine, amongst others. She resides in Manhattan Beach with her husband and 3 children.
