In about the last 10 years, the legalized cannabis industry has grown into a $32 billion business. Today, in 21 states, and the District of Columbia, you can legally purchase recreational marijuana if you are 21 or older. And 37 states have legalized medical marijuana programs. While it's easy to feel that cannabis has come a long way from the scare tactics of Reefer Madness, since 1970's Controlled Substance Act, marijuana has been classified as a drug on par with cocaine and heroin - dramatically increasing penalties for possession, sale, and distribution. Those penalties were enforced in ways that continue to disproportionately target people of color, especially black people. While the same states that once prosecuted the sale of weed are now regulating and taxing it, will those most affected by the punitive frameworks of the past be able to profit too? Host Michel Martin speaks with Devin Alexander, owner of the cannabis delivery business, Rolling Releaf, based in Newton Massachusetts. And we hear from Tauhid Chappell, President of the Philadelphia CannaBusiness Association.

It's another exclusive one on one conversation with our insider Dan Rafael, he speaks with Amir Khan. This, as the former two division world champ announced his retirement this past weekend. Khan looks back on his 17 year pro career that saw him capture the WBA 140 lb. title in 2009. Khan would make five successful defenses against Dmitriy Salita, Paulie Malignaggi (in his American debut in Malignaggi's hometown of New York), Marcos Maidana (in a rousing Las Vegas battle), Paul McCloskey and a fifth-round body-shot knockout of Zab Judah to take his IBF belt in a unification fight. Khan would move up to welterweight and go on to defeat opponents such as former world titleholders Luis Collazo, Devin Alexander and Chris Algieri but he would lose two more world title fights by knockout. He stepped up to middleweight (at a 155-pound catch weight) to challenge WBC champion Canelo Alvarez and got knocked out in spectacular fashion in the sixth round in 2016. A two-year layoff followed and in 2019, Khan was stopped in the sixth round challenging WBO welterweight titlist Terence Crawford. Khan notched his final win in his next fight when he knocked out former featherweight titlist Billy Dib in the fourth round in Saudi Arabia before ending a 2½-year layoff to face fellow former champ Brit Kel Brook. Brook stopped Khan in their long overdue battle. Khan gives his thoughts on it all, including his short term future on "Fight Freaks Unite." A field that is one of my biggest passions in life that is also simultaneously EXPLODING in popularity over the last 10 years is that of Cannabis. The challenge within this boom, however, is that more & more corporate entities with a lack of understanding of what Cannabis truly is & what it's purpose in this world is are cashing in on this boom & driving out opportunities for the true Cannabis stewards to have a piece of the pie that is the Cannabis industry. Today's guest is one of my dear friends & brothers, someone who has a true passion for this plant & someone that is revolutionizing the Cannabis industry here in Boston. He is a world class Cannabis expert, having worked in the professional industry alongside myself for many years, is the Vice President of The Massachusetts cannabis association for delivery, is the New England Cannabis Convention 2021 Massachusetts Activist of the year & is the founder & owner of Rolling Releaf, which is a social equity certified, black owned Cannabis delivery operator in the Cannabis Industry here in Massachusetts. Trust me when I say that this episode holds a special place in my heart as this gentlemen & I have seen first hand what can happen when the Cannabis industry is taken over by people who do not hold this plant in high regard & therefore how important it is for people that DO in fact worship & respect this plant to stand up, fight for what they believe in & show the world what true Cannabis culture is all about. This episode was produced at the Mass Music Radio Station in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Meet some of the black men that are breaking down barriers and changing the game in the Massachusetts cannabis industry. On this episode Reginald Stanfield broke the news that his company JustinCredible Cultivation was approved for licenses making him the first black-owned cultivation business in the state, only the second black owned cannabis business, as well as the first non-social equity to open their doors. Seun Adedeji is the founder and CEO of Elev8. As the youngest African American Man in the US, to Own a Cannabis Dispensary, Seun has been on the front lines of the legalization process in multiple states. He brings significant commercial real estate experience to Elev8, as a real estate investor and landlord. Reginald Stanfield is the CEO and head horticulturist at JustinCredible Cultivation. Born and raised a natural farmer, Reginald spent every summer on his grandparents farm in North Carolina. From the time he could walk he worked alongside his grandfather cultivating tobacco, tomatoes, corn, watermelon and other vegetative crops. Upon graduating from Bowie State University with a B.S in Finance, Reginald quit his job as an financial manager at a medium sized minority owned business specializing in government contracts, to start his first business. Shortly after, he realized that his true passion was to develop and elevate others. He saw tremendous opportunity to do just that by creating a company that would go on to support, develop and brand start-up's, thus giving them a pathway to become dominating businesses in their respective industriess. In 2013 Reginald saw another opportunity to leverage his background in horticulture (and novice skills in botany), combined with his strong business acumen, to begin to lay the groundwork for what is now JustinCredible Cultivation. Being a true student of the game, Reginald quickly gained the knack to cultivate cannabis and over the next six years he studied and mastered the art of growing classic strains like Blueberry, White Widow, Durban Poison and even breeding his own strains. Devin Alexander is the Co-Founder/CEO of Rolling Releaf, a Social Equity Certified Delivery Only Cannabis Business currently going through the licensing process in Massachusetts.
