Joining him is his daughter, Paulina Pinsky, a writer and educator with a unique perspective on relationships, identity, and consent. Together, they've co-authored the insightful and much-needed book, It Doesn't Have to Be Awkward: Dealing with Relationships, Consent, and Other Hard-to-Talk-About Stuff, which aims to help young people and their parents have open, meaningful conversations about life's most important topics. Whether to laugh at our time in rehab, or cry at the worst missteps we made, Dopey tells the truth about drugs, addiction and recovery. We continually mine the universe for stories rife with debauchery and highlight serious drug taking and alcoholism. We also examine different paths toward addiction recovery. The girls welcome back their friend Paulina for a conversation around her life changes. When she found herself vomiting in a random roadside gas station, nearing the looming end of her codependent relationship that was fueled by addiction, she realized she was hitting the bottom. She talks about using weed in an unhealthy (and self-described meth-ish way) and using the drugs and alcohol to numb and change herself. Paulina 3.0 is over 100 days sober, and showing the most authentic side of her we've ever seen! She's truly thriving, and leaning into her village to maintain her sobriety, reach her highest level of creative self, and take the writing and educating world by storm! This episode the girls are back together, and chatting about the disgraced Duggar family. As Josh's trial wraps up, with an absolutely deserving guilty verdict, it opens up avenues for other conversations. Jennie and Allie talk parenting boundaries, religious trauma, and abuse. It focuses on the trial a bit, but more so dives into questioning how far supporting your child should go, the root of all evil being money, and what extremes people are willing to go to protect their brand. The girls also make their public cry to Anna (or any woman out there in similar situations!!!) that you are SUPPORTED! The hatred does not lie with you.Trigger Warning: This episode contains material that some listeners may find disturbing, including mentions of child sexual abuse. If this is something you'd prefer not to listen to, now is your time to close out. While the material is tough to hear - we feel it is an important conversation to remind everyone that child sexual abuse material and pornography is not a victimless crime. Thanks for your continued support.Disclosure: Jennie and Allie are not journalists, researchers, doctors or involved with this case in any way. The commentary provided is opinions, rumors, snark and unconfirmed.*Books to encourage children to be empowered and educated about their bodies and relationships! No Means No! by Jayneen SandersMy Body! This week on The Village Podcast with Jennie and Allie, the girls welcome a special guest: Paulina Pinsky! Paulina is a badass writer, teacher, feminist and person, who's life experiences and new book offer great conversations for parents to open up to their children. The book, written with her Dad, Dr. Drew (yes, THAT Dr. Drew!) titled "It Doesn't Have to Be Awkward: Dealing with Relationships, Consent, and other Hard-to-Talk-About Stuff" is a fabulous teaching tool for families on the topics listed in the title. The girls chat about how Paulina wasn't introduced to the idea of consent until she went to college and how that was too late. Jennie relates to that, and how consent and boundaries were not taught which resulted in two children by the age of 21. Allie talks about navigating boundaries with her toddlers and hugging family members and kids making decisions on their own. This episode covers intense topics of mother-daughter relationships, how the media portrays and twists our words, and how having trust, compassion and boundaries with ourselves at a young age is step one. If writing about cringy hook-ups and regrettable empty sex isn't tricky enough, Paulina Pinsky managed to co-author one with her dad, Dr. Drew Pinsky. A triplet, Paulina remembers having the sex talk one way, her dad another. Their book, “It Doesn't Have to Be Awkward: Dealing With Relationships, Consent, and Other Hard-to-Talk About Stuff” covers everything from how to break up, to how to deal with enemies and bullies, to what age is right for sex.
Dr. Drew and Paulina Pinsky's book “It Doesn't Have To Be Awkward” is a guide for parents and kids age 12-20 about consent, dating, bullying, friendships, social media and so much more. Besides Dr. Drew's adult daughter, Paulina being a brilliant writer, she is a triplet, former competitive skater, eating disorder survivor, and a child of a famous TV doctor. I ask them both lots of awkward questions about their family and they answer. I also cover the latest on Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen's custody and child support situation. Meghan's guests this week are father and daughter Dr. Drew Pinsky and Paulina Pinsky, who are coauthors of the new book, It Doesn't Have To Be Awkward: Dealing With Relationships, Consent and Other Hard-To-Talk-About Stuff. In the book, they address issues around relationships, boundaries and sexual consent and seek to bridge the generation gap between baby boomers like Drew and millennials like Paulina 28. (Gen-Xers are once again excused from the table.) In this interview, Drew and Paulina talk about why this particular generation gap seems more pronounced than previous ones, especially with regard to young people wanting to leave the nest. They also talk about how the oft-cited concept of “boundaries” is much broader and more complex than we often assume, which Paulina learned when she started college and compulsively introduced herself to everyone she met. (Meghan did this, too, and was affectionately deemed by one friend “a conversational slut” —a totally okay thing to say back then!) As a longtime devotee of Loveline, the no-holds-barred syndicated radio call-in program that Drew co-hosted with Adam Carolla for three decades, Meghan is especially keen to parse generational differences as they apply to cultural sensitivities and comic sensibilities. As such, they revisit a classic Loveline clip from long ago featuring David Alan Grier riffing off the names of birth control pills as hypothetical names for his children. Paulina, who writes comedy herself, explains what she thinks of that bit while Drew talks about how much he misses those days. Guest Bios: Dr. Drew Pinsky is a practicing internist and addiction medicine specialist, a New York Times bestselling author and prolific television, radio and podcasting host. In addition to his thirty-plus years hosting the iconic radio show Loveline, he has hosted numerous award-winning television shows including Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew on VH1 and DrDrew on HLN. His digital platforms include The Dr. Drew Podcast, the Adam and Dr. Drew Show, and Dr. Drew After Dark, and his two streaming shows, #AskDrDrew and Dose of Dr. Drew. Paulina Pinsky teaches comedy writing to high schoolers at Columbia University and writes about female sexuality and feminism. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Megyn Kelly is joined by Dr. Drew Pinsky and his daughter Paulina Pinksy to discuss their new book, “It Doesn't Have to Be Awkward: Dealing with Relationships, Consent, and Other Hard-to-Talk-About Stuff.” Before the father-daughter duo get into their book, Dr. Drew and Megyn discuss the false headline that border patrol uses whips against Haitian migrants, the new study on increasing BMI in children during the pandemic, and why the FDA and CDC have nothing to do with medicine or how it's practiced. Paulina joins her father to discuss what it was like growing up with a famous (and workaholic) dad, her struggles with an eating disorder, seeking help from an outside therapist, how to discuss hard topics with children and young adults, and more.Follow The Megyn Kelly Show on all social platforms: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/MegynKellyTwitter: http://Twitter.com/MegynKellyShowInstagram: http://Instagram.com/MegynKellyShowFacebook: http://Facebook.com/MegynKellyShow Find out more information at: https://www.devilmaycaremedia.com/megynkellyshow
