February 2, Feast of the Presentation of the Lord - Humility Leads to Glory

Read OnlineWhen the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord,” and to offer the sacrifice of “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons,” in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Luke 2:22–24The Presentation of the Lord reveals two beautiful paradoxes: the purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the ritual redemption of Jesus, her firstborn Son. Both actions follow the Law of Moses, yet each unveils a deeper mystery about Christ and His Mother, offering us a mystery to enter and an example to follow.First, we ponder the Blessed Virgin Mary's purification. The Law stated that a woman who gave birth to a son needed ritual purification (cf. Leviticus 12). Yet Mary, being immaculately conceived and preserved entirely from all stain of sin, had no need for purification. Nevertheless, she fulfilled the Law, setting before us a model of perfect humility and obedience. Knowing her own interior purity, she could have objected, but she did not, because she valued obedience to God's law above her own justification. She teaches us that true holiness embraces humble submission over self-assertion. Humility, in its beauty and holiness, always conquers pride's selfishness and self-elevation. Our Blessed Mother knew and lived that. The second paradox is found in Jesus' presentation. The Law required every firstborn son to be presented to the Lord and redeemed in remembrance of the Passover (cf. Exodus 13; Numbers 3 and 18). Yet Jesus is the eternal Son of God, the true High Priest and Spotless Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. He needed no redemption, for He is God Himself. Still, Christ was presented in the Temple so that we might be presented with Him to the Father. In His humility, He united Himself to our human nature—without sin—so that we might be truly consecrated to God through Him. Again, virtue wins out, as Christ invites us to share in His humility. The Presentation also foreshadows the other ways Jesus would redeem us through His human life. In His Baptism, though sinless, He submits to a rite of repentance so we might be sanctified through baptism ourselves. In His Passion, though innocent, He suffers for us, paying our debt—a debt we must humbly admit that we cannot repay on our own. In His Resurrection, His humility is crowned with eternal glory, opening the way for us to share in His divine life—if we humble ourselves with Him.Like our Blessed Mother, we are called to submit obediently to God's will, rejecting the pride that tempts us to think we are above certain duties or sacrifices. True holiness embraces sacrifice freely out of love, rather than seeking exemption from it. Even undeserved hardships bear fruit when endured with Christ. True holiness also perceives the beauty of joyful obedience to God's will, rather than asserting our own.Like Jesus, we are called to offer ourselves completely to the Father. As Jesus was ritually offered in the Temple, we must see ourselves in that offering. He was offered for us. By uniting ourselves with Him in His humility, we are redeemed through His offering to the Father. We become children in the Son, received by the Father who accepted Christ's perfect offering. In Him, our offering becomes perfect, and we find our eternal home with the Father. Reflect today on the hidden ways God invites you to imitate these paradoxes. Are there areas where you resist humble obedience, preferring your own will over God's? Are there sacrifices you are tempted to avoid, forgetting that true love embraces the Cross? Offer yourself to the Father with Mary's obedience and Christ's perfect humility so that your life, like theirs, may become a pure offering of love. Most humble Lord, You were obedient to the Father's will in all things. From the mystery of Your Incarnation, to Your humble birth in a cave, Your ritual presentation and redemption in the Temple, and Your sacrificial Death and Resurrection, You acted with perfect holiness, humility, and obedience. Please draw me into Your life—into Your Presentation to the Father, Your Death, and Your Resurrection. Live within me, dear Lord, so that I may live in You, sharing in the glory You desire to bestow. Jesus, I trust in You.  Images via Adobe Stock - Main & FeaturedSource: Free RSS feed from catholic-daily-reflections.com — Copyright © 2026 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Finding the Child by Finding the Mother Today's Homily reflects on the Gospel of Christ's birth and naming, . . . . . . emphasizing that the Nativity is not a past event but a living, ever-new mystery that renews time itself. The Church proclaims that the birth of Jesus . . . God entering human history. . . stands at the true beginning of every year, making time “full” through Christ. January 1st, the Octave Day of Christmas and the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, and that to know the Son is to know the Mother. The Homily further highlights the blessing from the Book of Numbers . . . “May the Lord let his face shine upon you” . . . fulfilled in Christ, whose face first shines upon Mary and then upon all humanity. Shepherds and Magi alike find Jesus by finding His Mother, illustrating their inseparable bond. Jesus comes not for us to take Him home, but to bring us home into God's family through adoption. Mary, entrusted with the name of Jesus, reveals it to the world, making her the Mother of God, the Church, and all believers. The faithful are invited to begin the year seeking God's blessing, peace, and grace, confident that Christ . . . Son of God and Son of Mary . . . continues to shine His face upon them in the Eucharist. Listen more to Finding the Child by Finding the Mother ------------------------------------------------------ Quote from the Homily To know the Mother, to find the Mother, is to know and find the Son. This too is the great mystery that the scriptures of these days unfold before us. First it is the shepherds who come, and they find the child by finding His mother. This coming Sunday, we will celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany and the three magi come, and they will find the child by finding the mother. Know how wonderful this is, this inseparability between the two of them. To know the Son is to know the Mother. To know the Mother is to know the Son. This should not surprise us because the Lord has come. The Lord has come. Born of woman, born of Mary, born of a mother, not simply for us to receive Him. He has come to receive us. Jesus does not come into the world for us to take him home with us. Jesus comes into the world to bring us home with him. ------------------------------------------------------ Art Work Adoration: Italian Painter: Cappella Sassetti: 1485 ------------------------------------------------------ Gospel Reading: Luke 2: 16-21 First Reading: Numbers 6: 22-27 Second Reading: Galatians 4: 4-7

Friends of the Rosary,Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, the manifestation of our Lord to the Gentile nations, after it is made known to the shepherds of Bethlehem and revealed to the Magi who have come from the East to adore and offer Him gifts.Epiphany means manifestation. It's the revelation of the Messiah as the light of the nations. It's an affirmation of our universal salvation. In the adoration of the Magi — the wise men reaching Bethlehem, completing the nativity scene —  we see the beginnings of Christian faith. As they find the Child, the newly-born king of the Jews, with Mary, His Mother, they all prostrate and adore Him.This feast is celebrated either on January 6 or, at the episcopal conference's discretion, on the Sunday between January 2 and January 8.This solemnity is a large celebration, especially in Spanish-speaking countries.Ave MariaCome, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Friends of the Rosary,Yesterday, we honored St. Stephen, who by his words and by laying down his life for his faith, bore witness to Christ. Today, December 27, we receive the testimony of John, Apostle and Evangelist (d. 101).The Church celebrates the Feast of this Galilean fisherman born in Bethsaida, son of Zebedee and Salome, and brother to St. James the Greater, who became the beloved disciple of Jesus.John and James were called by Jesus to be disciples as they were mending their nets by the Sea of Galilee. The pure and spiritual life of John kept him very close to Jesus and Mary, resting on the Master's breast at the Last Supper and being filled with divine wisdom. He wrote the fourth Gospel (about sixty-three years after the Ascension of Christ), three Epistles, and an excellent and mysterious Book of the Apocalypse or Revelation.John is the evangelist of the divinity and fraternal love of Christ. With James, his brother, and Simon Peter, he was one of the witnesses of the Transfiguration. He was permitted to witness His agony in the Garden. At the foot of the cross, Jesus entrusted His Mother to his care as He hung dying on the Cross.St. John was the only one of the Apostles who did not forsake the Savior in the hour of His Passion and Death. He was brought to Rome and, according to tradition, cast into a caldron of boiling oil by Emperor Domitian's order, but he was miraculously preserved unhurt. He was later exiled to the Island of Patmos, where he wrote the Apocalypse. In his extreme old age, he continued to visit the churches of Asia. Every time he preached, he said: "My dear children, love one another."St. John died in peace at about ninety-four years old at Ephesus in the hundredth year of the Christian era, or the sixty-sixth from the crucifixion of Christ.Ave MariaCome, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkNew Upgrade! The readings for this homily: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/122225.cfmFather Daniel Klimek, MIC confronts a growing indifference toward the Blessed Virgin Mary—even among Catholics—and reminds us that authentic Christianity is always Marian. The words of the Magnificat are not poetic exaggeration; they are divinely inspired truth: “From now on will all ages call me blessed.” (Lk 1:48; NABRE). Reverence for Mary is not optional sentiment—it is a biblical directive.Mary's song echoes the praise of Miriam in the Old Testament, yet now the liberation announced is not political, but eternal. Through the womb of the Virgin, Christ enters the world. She becomes the Ark of the New Covenant, bearing not the law written on stone, but the Word made flesh. To diminish her role is to misunderstand the Incarnation itself.Father Daniel warns that indifference toward Mary is one of the most subtle spiritual dangers of our time. When Marian devotion is reduced to a “personal spirituality,” something essential is lost. From the Cross, Jesus entrusted His Mother to the beloved disciple—and in him, to every Christian: “Behold, your mother” (Jn 19:27; NABRE). This was not symbolic poetry; it was a sacred investiture. To honor Mary never detracts from Christ. As the saints affirm, devotion to the Mother always leads more deeply to the Son. The Immaculate Heart is inseparably united to the Sacred Heart. When we receive Mary into our spiritual life, as St. John did, our faith becomes more profound, more biblical, and more fully Catholic.Mary is not an accessory to the Gospel. She is at its heart. To receive her is to receive one of Christ's final gifts from the Cross—a Mother who intercedes, protects, and leads us unfailingly to Him. ★ Support this podcast ★

Here's how we walk through it together: 00:00 Why Mother-in-Law Conflicts Hurt Communication and Connection 03:14 Dr. Tracy's Story and Why She Wrote “You, Your Husband and His Mother” 05:24 Mother–Son Bonds, Gender Roles, and the Roots of Toxic Mother-in-Law Dynamics 11:03 Unhealthy Family Patterns: Control, Enmeshment, and Emotional Caretaking of Mom 20:56 Overfunctioning Wives, Underfunctioning Husbands, and the Mother–Child Dynamic 24:39 The VAULT Method: Becoming a United Couple and Setting Boundaries with In-Laws 30:48 Requests vs Boundaries: What Really Works with a Toxic Mother-in-Law 51:41 Change, Accept, or Leave: Your Choices in a Toxic Mother-in-Law Situation If this stirs up a very specific conversation with your partner (or a replay of your last holiday with his mom) and your chest tightens a little, I have something for exactly that moment. My Communication That Connects training walks you through the evidence-based do's and don'ts of communication that actually creates understanding instead of more defensiveness and hurt. I'll help you get clear about the real issues under your fights, give you a framework you can start using right away with your partner, and walk you step-by-step through how to have hard conversations in a way that protects your emotional bond instead of tearing it down. And if you're at the point where you're thinking, “I don't want to keep holding this all together by myself,” I would be genuinely honored to support you more directly. At Growing Self, you can privately tell us what's going on with your marriage, your mother-in-law, your family, and we'll help you connect with the right therapist or coach on my team. It's a simple, secure way to raise your hand and say, “Here's what I'm struggling with, please point me to the right person.” You can start that process anytime by scheduling a consultation. You deserve a family life that feels safe, sane, and loving, even if your extended family is… a lot.

Alma Ohene-Opare grew up in Ghana during military coups, famine, and dictatorship. He watched his mother build schools and a university from nothing. He lost five dogs to DDT poisoning at age 6. He made a pinhole camera because a physics book told him to — and then realized he could never develop the film because the resources simply didn't exist. That moment broke something in him… and lit a fire that burned until he finally touched American soil.In this nearly 3-hour conversation, Alma explains:- Why America is the only place on earth where you can wake up with an idea and have a working prototype by sundown - Why socialism always contains “a teaspoon of dog poop” no matter how good it smells - Why true justice can only come from God, not government - How his mother educated over 10,000 kids with the motto: “We train leaders, others train the rest” - The day he took the oath of citizenship and finally put his hand over his heart during the national anthem after 18 years of waiting - Standing at the exact spot where Charlie Kirk was assassinated and what it means for all of usThis is not political talking points. This is raw gratitude from a man who knows exactly what the alternative looks like.If you've ever taken your American privilege for granted — watch this. Together, they unpack why an incredible 85% of people experience conflict in this area, exploring how cultural shifts in parenting, emotional socialization, and postpartum expectations all play a role. Dr. Tracy introduces her powerful Vault Method, a structured framework that helps couples navigate in-law relationships with clearer communication, stronger boundaries, and a deeper understanding of their own emotional patterns. Tara and Dr. Tracy dive into the difference between healthy and unhealthy family systems, shedding light on why daughters and daughters-in-law are often treated differently and how these dynamics can create guilt, resentment, or pressure, especially for new moms. Dr. Tracy outlines the six types of mothers-in-law, from the supportive types who foster emotional independence to the blamers who scapegoat others instead of looking inward. Through compassionate, relatable examples, she and Tara highlight the importance of self-awareness, emotional detachment from guilt, and the courage to set boundaries that protect your well-being. In this deeply moving episode, Maya speaks with Dan Dunsmore, a devoted brother, father, and educator who shares the heartbreaking story of losing his sister Patti at just 13 years old to a sudden and misdiagnosed case of appendicitis. Dan takes us back to 1968 in South Knoxville, Tennessee, and walks us through the idyllic beginnings of his childhood, followed by a series of devastating family losses, each one reshaping the course of his life. Dan opens up about the traumatic last words he spoke to Patti, the moment he found himself alone in a suddenly silent house, and how grief compounded as he later lost both parents and eventually his beloved older sister, Libby. Now decades into his healing journey, Dan shares the long-term impact of losing a sibling young, the power of therapy, and the divine full-circle love story of reconnecting with Patti's childhood best friend—who is now his wife. This episode is a powerful testament to resilience, love, and finding meaning in pain. In This Episode: [00:00–02:00] Childhood Memories in South Knoxville Dan describes growing up in South Knoxville in the late 1960s — an idyllic childhood filled with freedom, neighborhood adventures, and sibling connection. He and Patti were two years apart and inseparable, forming a tight bond that shaped his early life. [03:00–06:00] Patti Falls Ill What started as a cold became something far more serious. Dan recalls watching his sister's illness worsen as doctors struggled to diagnose her. When she was hospitalized, he thought she was seeking attention — and the last words he said to her haunt him to this day. [06:00–08:00] The Day Everything Changed Patti's appendix ruptured, leading to her death on the operating table. Dan was only 13 years old. He recalls the phone call, his mother's sobs, and being left alone in the quiet house, unaware that his sister was gone. [08:00–11:00] The Empty House & Lasting Trauma Dan shares how that eerie silence imprinted on him — even now, decades later, he can't sit in silence without sound in the background. That empty house moment became a lifelong trauma trigger, symbolizing loss and isolation. [13:00–16:00] The Dream Visit from Patti Patti came to Dan in a dream. Dressed in the same outfit she was buried in, she simply said, "I'm okay. I'm okay." That dream became a lifelong source of peace, convincing Dan that love transcends death. [18:00–21:00] Losing Faith & Clinging to Hope Dan recalls sleeping with a Bible in bed for weeks after Patti's passing. Though not deeply religious, he needed something to hold onto — faith, comfort, and the feeling that Patti was still close. [21:00–24:00] Two Years Later: Losing His Father Just two years after Patti's death, Dan's father suffered a fatal heart attack — a loss he attributes partly to heartbreak. His mother spiraled into depression, leaving Dan to navigate grief, instability, and survival at just 15. [25:00–29:00] Family Collapse & Survival Mode Dan refused to leave his mother's side even as his older siblings took in his baby sister, Cindy. His loyalty kept him in a house full of pain, where he often became the caretaker for his grieving mother. [30:00–33:00] His Mother's Suicide Attempt Dan bravely opens up about the night his mother attempted suicide while he was out on a date. Though she survived, it reinforced his fear of abandonment — and his determination to never leave her again. [37:00–41:00] Therapy Breakthrough: Decades Later It wasn't until 30 years later — during his divorce — that Dan began therapy and discovered a life-changing insight: his daughter was the same age Patti was when she died. He realized he was reliving that trauma. [42:00–44:00] Rebuilding & Finding Love Again Years later, Dan reconnected with Murph — Patti's childhood best friend. What began as holiday cards turned into a love story. Today, she's his wife, and they honor Patti's memory together. [48:00–52:00] Losing Libby: Another Sibling Gone Dan shares the loss of his older sister Libby in 2010 and her miraculous life story. Born with a severe spinal issue, doctors never expected her to walk — yet she lived fully, loved deeply, and became a mother figure to everyone around her. [53:00–55:00] Lessons from Libby & Final Reflections Libby never ended a call without saying, "I love you." Dan urges listeners: never wait to say it. Tell your siblings, your parents, your friends — you love them. You never know when it'll be the last time. Listen to the full episode of "Dan Loses Patti To Appendicitis" now on all major platforms. Are We No Longer Able To Call Mary Co-Redemptrix or Co-Redeemer? - Fr. Chris Alar | 11/5/25

Fr. Chris Alar addresses the recent doctrinal note Mater Populi Fidelis (“Mother of the Faithful”) released by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. The document discusses Marian titles such as Co-Redemptrix and Co-Mediatrix, leading many to ask whether these titles may still be used.Fr. Chris explains that this note falls under the ordinary magisterium of the Church — meaning it is authoritative and deserves religious obedience, but it is not infallible. It does not define new dogma or forbid the use of these Marian titles. Instead, it advises caution when they are used in ways that might confuse the faithful or seem to diminish the unique and saving role of Jesus Christ. As Fr. Chris points out, several popes — including St. Pius X, Pius XI, and St. John Paul II — used the title Co-Redemptrix to describe Mary's singular participation in her Son's work of redemption. The Latin prefix co- (from cum, meaning “with,” not “equal to”) expresses that Mary cooperated with Christ in a subordinate and dependent way, never as His equal. Just as St. Paul called us “co-workers with God” (1 Cor 3:9), Mary's “yes” made her the perfect collaborator in His saving plan.Fr. Chris also emphasizes that honoring Mary does not reduce our love or worship of Jesus. Just as loving another child does not divide a parent's love, devotion to Mary actually deepens love for her Son. Mary leads us to Christ; she never replaces Him. Grace comes from God alone, through Christ, yet Mary intercedes as the one most united to His mission of mercy. The Church teaches that Jesus alone is the Redeemer and the sole Mediator between God and man (1 Tim 2:5). Mary's participation is always subordinate — a reflection of Christ's glory, not a rival to it. The new document cautions that when certain terms require constant clarification, they may be unhelpful in ordinary catechesis. However, it also explicitly states that their use is not forbidden if they are explained properly and understood in the light of the Church's faith.Fr. Chris concludes that while the Marian Fathers will always remain obedient to the Magisterium, they will also continue to explain and defend the Church's Marian tradition with clarity and fidelity. Properly understood, these titles honor Christ by acknowledging the full truth of how He chose to work through His Mother for our salvation.Watch this important reflection now on Divine Mercy Plus — the free, ad-free Catholic streaming platform dedicated to truth, formation, and the message of Divine Mercy.#frchrisalar #marian #marians #marianfathers #marianhelpers #divinemercy #thedivinemercy #catholic #catholicism #romancatholic #romancatholicism #mary #blessedmother #coredeemer #coredemptrix #mediation #doctrinalnote #vatican #obedience #faith #truth #catholictiktok ★ Support this podcast ★

No one prepares you for how much your relationship changes after having a baby. The exhaustion, hormones, mental load, and body changes all take a toll on desire and closeness, and it's rarely talked about honestly. In this Follow Up episode, Dr. Mona talks with Dr. Tracy Dalgleish about what really happens to intimacy after baby. Mother-in-law drama? You're not imagining it, and you're definitely not alone. This week, we're joined by Dr. Tracy Dalgleish, a clinical psychologist, author, and relationship expert with over 15 years of experience helping couples communicate and connect better. Together, we unpack the emotional landmines that can show up when your partner's mom is… a lot, and how to set boundaries that protect your relationship instead of tearing it apart. We cover: Why mother-in-law relationships are so complicated. Dr. Tracy explains the hidden power dynamics and emotional expectations that can make them feel tense or competitive. How to stop feeling “stuck in the middle”. Learn practical communication strategies for when your partner and their mom are clashing, or when you're the one feeling left out. The difference between boundaries and ultimatums. Why you don't need to be “the good daughter-in-law” to keep the peace, and how to stand firm without guilt. How to get your partner on the same team. Tips for talking about family tension without triggering defensiveness or blame. When the problem isn't just her. Dr. Tracy helps us look inward at our own triggers, expectations, and patterns that keep us repeating the same dynamic. The role of empathy in de-escalating family conflict. Why empathy for your partner (and even their mom) can shift everything. How to prioritize your partnership above all else. Parenting Teens with Dr. Cam
When Teen Drama Divides Parents: How to Rebuild Connection & Trust

Parenting Teens with Dr. Cam

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 7, 2025 47:01 Transcription Available

When parenting teenagers becomes a battleground between parents, everyone suffers—including your teen. Dr. Cam and couples therapist Dr. Tracy Dalgleish tackle the common problem of parental division, where one parent becomes the “tough one” while the other takes on the “soft” role, creating conflict that teens often exploit. This episode reveals why parents frequently end up on opposite sides of the parenting spectrum, especially during the teenage years when stakes feel higher and emotions run deeper. The experts explain how family triangulation occurs—when relationship tension between parents gets redirected toward the teenager, creating dysfunction for everyone involved. Key insights include understanding that both parents typically share the same core values and goals for their children, even when their approaches differ dramatically. The solution isn't forcing identical parenting styles, but rather establishing shared values while allowing different expressions of those values. Dr. Tracy emphasizes the critical importance of relationship repair—acknowledging mistakes and their impact—as a foundational skill for both marriage and parenting. Parents learn practical strategies for supporting each other even during disagreements, including validation techniques and behind-the-scenes communication that maintain unity. The discussion addresses common challenges like shame spirals, resentment over unequal parenting burdens, and interference from extended family members. Most importantly, parents discover that focusing on their own relationship with their teen—rather than trying to control their partner's approach—creates more positive outcomes for everyone involved.

Calley Means has spent years pulling back the curtain on some of the most powerful industries in America, and what he shared with me was eye-opening. We talked about his journey from working inside the political machine to becoming a senior adviser to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and now one of the most outspoken critics of the food, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industries. Calley explained why he believes the health of our country starts with what we eat, and how the system is stacked against ordinary Americans from the time we are kids in school. He did not sugarcoat the reality. The statistics are dark, the incentives are broken, and the industries making billions off our sickness do not want to change. But Calley also brought hope by sharing why he still believes America can turn this around, what he is fighting for alongside RFK Jr. and Donald Trump, and the changes that could actually make us healthy again. This was a challenging and fascinating conversation that will make you question what you have been told about health, medicine, and the food on your plate.
