In a special episode of the Film Stories podcast, Simon is joined by writers and producers Pen Densham and John Watson. Their story covers a lot of short films, working with Sylvester Stallone to reshape the ending of Rocky II, and the writing and producing 1991's Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. That involved a battle of the Robin Hoods too, and they also had Backdraft in production at the same time. The pair tell their stories in this episode, and there's just time at the end for a quick venture into The Dangerous Lives Of The Altar Boys too... Released in the summer of 1991, Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves was a monster success that grossed over $165 million at the US box office and more than $390 million globally - a number which made it one of the biggest hits of the year. The success of the film, along with the massive Bryan Adams hit, (Everything I Do) I Do It for You means that it still resonates today. The classic Kevin Reyndolds directed adventure gives Kevin Costner's Robin Hood plenty of swash and buckle alongside Morgan Freeman's Merry Man, while a villainous Alan Rickman chews the scenery as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Hot on the heels of a fantastic new release by the aptly named Arrow Films, Pen Densham and John Watson, the writers of Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves join the Movies In Focus podcast to talk about how the film came to be, its enduring legacy - and the sequel that never happened.
In this episode, Jim was joined by Pen Densham & John Watson, the writers and producers of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.Released in 1991, directed by Kevin Reynolds and starring Kevin Costner, Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman, the film was a huge box-office success, earning nearly £400 million at the box office. This interview was recorded via zoom just before Christmas as Jim spoke with Pen and John about the development of the film from script to screen. As always be warned this recording is filled with spoilers and tangents a-aplenty.If you enjoyed it, be sure to leave us a review wherever you get your podcasting fix.Check out our socials on Facebook, Twitter , Instagram and YouTube.Don't forget to subscribe to make sure you never miss a single episode and find our complete back catalogue on the BanterFlix website.

Pen shares the difficulties he had growing up because he didn’t feel his creativity was nourished, and how he learned to thrive in his proces, making leaps and bounds towards his future, persuading The Rolling Stones to let him photograph them at just 15 years old, building an artist's community, working alongside renowned documentarians, to his coping mechanisms around self doubt and the sometimes overwhelming anxiety creative people are more likely to have. We talk about evolutionary habits, spirituality, the most effective way of framing and relating a potential story, the euphoria he feels when he’s learning and teaching, his fearful journey through the writing process, to becoming a published author of a besting selling book.
