This film is a sequel to the 1995 film but doesn't tie to that storyline whatsoever. However, it does serve as a prequel to the series, “Power Rangers: Turbo”. Jason David Frank, Johnny Yong Bosch & Steve Cardenas return from the previous film and the series while being joined by Catherine Sutherland, Nakia Burrise & Blake Foster. This would the final feature film based on the series until 2017.
At the height of their success, the Power Rangers would get their first ever motion picture in 1995. In this film, the Rangers would battle Ivan Ooze (played by Paul Freeman) an ancient warlord who was ruled the Earth 6000 years ago before being defeated by the Rangers' leader, Zordon. This film would release during the series finale of the its second season but would not be part of the series canonization. The film was directed by Bryan Spicer and stars Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, Steve Cardenas, Billy Yost, Karen Ashley & Johnny Yong Bosch.
This week concludes our Guest Picks Month, with special guest Blake Allen! Blake does all the art for the show! Join us as we SHIFT INTO TURBO and discuss Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie.

With their witty banter and insightful commentary, they break down the fight scenes, discuss the plot, and share fun facts you never knew about the making of the film.psst. we've actually done a bunch of these "goes to the movies" episodes. Check this page to see all of the released specials. Here's a sample of the full show notes - make sure to click through and check them out.Content WarningAs this is an episode about a both PG13 rated movie and a fighting game which literally started the game rating systems, we'd advise a little caution for this episode. There's nothing explicitly terrible in this episode, but the subject matter can be pretty rough. There are a few swears toward the end of the episode, but they're all bleeped out. Please listen responsibly.Show NotesThis episode may or may not have been recorded live at the Jammy Awards:Hello, greetings, and welcome to another edition of the Jammy Awards. This is the 37th annual edition, I'm in my jammies why are you not.I am here, my name is Squidge...- SquidgeExcept that it wasn't recorded live, Jammy Awards or no.This episode was just Squidge and Jay talking about (as Jay put it)MORTAL KOMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!ONEONEONEELEVEN- JayBasic Info on the MovieThis movie was released in 1997, as a sequel to 1995's Mortal Kombat - don't worry, we're going to cover that movie. We wanted to start with Annihilation for... reasons. The 1995 movie was directed by Paul W. S. "look at how hot my future wife is" Anderson, but this piece of celluloid was directed by John R. Leonetti. Not only was the director replaced, but most of the cast were too; with Christopher Lambert being replaced by James Remar - there's a perfectly logical reason for this, and it's explored in the next Goes to the Movies episode. Teaser much? The plot of this movie revolves mostly around the games Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3, which makes sense when you realise how little plot there are in fighting games.Initial ThoughtsNeither Squidge nor Jay saw this movie on the big screen. But Squidge remembers seeing Star Wars Episode 1 on the big screen, and Jay remembers The Power Rangers Movie as their first movie.Starting with a montage is a baller move, for sure. And it's even more impressive than the way that Casino Royale into Quantum of Solace did it.Full Show NotesMake sure to check out the full show notes for more discussion on the points we raise, some extra meta-analysis, some out-of-context screen grabs from the movie, and some links to related things. Are you a fan of the Doom games? This time it's just you Matty and the Morphing Grid. In celebration of its 25th anniversary and Matty's birthday they are making a case for why the Turbo movie isn't that bad and you should give it another go.
Go Go Power Rangers! After the mega success of the TV show in 1993, the powers that be (Zordon?) decided we all needed a Power Ranger movie, thus The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie was born and we saw Kimberly, Aisha, Tommy, Adam, Billy, and Rocky flip for us 10,000 more times on the big screen! Really this is just a long drawn out tv episode where a new baddie (Ivan Ooze!) comes to town to destroy human civilization and it's up to the Power Rangers and their nifty animal/bot alter egos to save the day! Sweety was obsessed with this show as a kid and had a biiiig ladyboner for all things Yellow Ranger! We'll talk about why we think kids loved this show so goddamned much, how we liked that this illustrated to little girls that women can kick ass (though sadly the damsel in distress act was still relied on heavily!), and we discuss what your choice of Power Ranger says about your personality. And we were today years old when learned that Ivan Ooze was played by the same actor who played Belloq in Raider's of the Lost Ark! What a career!

The Power Trip: A Journey Through the Power Rangers Franchise
If Nathan was a Power Ranger monster-of-the-week, his name would be “Rant Master.” Michael gets earfuls of it this week when they discuss the infamous double whammy of Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie and Power Rangers Turbo. Michael tries to counter Nathan…by raving about Divatox's corset. They hit all the usual topics with this low point of the franchise—Justin (aka “Power Kenny”), the laughable villains, Bulk and Skull as monkeys—and have a discussion about identity crisis as a meta-textual theme for Turbo since Power Rangers had forgotten who it was and lost its way. The silver lining? This season broke its leg so the next one could put it in a splint and run so hard, it broke the braces.-----------------------------------------------EMAIL FEEDBACK TO THE SHOW:powertrippod@gmail.com-----------------------------------------------FOLLOW THE SHOW:Follow The Power Trips on Twitter: @ThePowerTripPod.Join the podcast's official Facebook group: Power Rangers Legacy.-----------------------------------------------READ KAIJU RAMEN:kaijuramenmagazine.com-----------------------------------------------OTHER PODCASTS WITH ATTITUDE:Kaiju Weekly Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kaiju-weekly/id1330448313The Henshin Men Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/henshin-men/id1575547087The Monster Island Film Vault:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-monster-island-film-vault/id1472692780The Kaiju Groupie Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-kaiju-groupie-podcast/id1519596361-----------------------------------------------The podcast logo was designed by Rebecca Hudgens.
