Copy Club is a community for marketers who want to help each other do great things. And there's a lot of them out there with the Copy Club community having grown to over 1000 members from over 800 brands since Lottie founded it in 2014.After working with massive global brands including Proctor & Gamble, Lacoste, and Dolce & Gabbana, Lottie created Copy Club as a means to feel less lonely in her job as Head of Marketing for PROPERCORN, who were at the time one of the five fastest growing businesses in the UK.She didn't know where to turn to for help and wanted to make friends who might make her life easier, and who, she could in turn support, so she took matters into her own hands and made that kind of place a reality. The Copy Club community is now a mega resource of some of the brightest minds in marketing with a slack channel where people can share and solve their challenges with other members, monthly talks diving into key marketing skills, regular social events, over 100 hours of recorded content, oh and 2% of their top-line revenue goes to charity, which is no small number as they have reached over one million in annual revenue. In this episode we discuss:The lessons Lottie learned at P&G and how those apply to high growth startups, as well as what is totally different about startup marketing!Building a business slowly and sustainably without investment, but still growing to exciting revenuesLearning from burnoutAnd community building adviceLinks:Checkout Copy Club - https://thecopyclub.co.uk

How can you build a brand when you can't advertise or launch promotions, and there are restrictions on where you can position your products in shops? It's a dilemma many food companies are facing ahead of new legislation due to be enforced in England from October 2022. It means there will be restrictions on how foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar - collectively known as HFSS - can be promoted. The new rules will see the end of deals like buy-one-get-one-free, a ban on free soft drink refills, and restrictions on where HFSS products can be placed in a store – think sweets at the till. So what can affected brands do to make sure consumers are still aware of their products? In this episode of Table Talk, Stefan Gates is joined by three experts in this field who discuss the challenges and opportunities on the horizon. They discuss how marketing teams are going to be forced to think more creatively, why 2022 is going to be key for building up a customer database, and why premium HFSS brands are hoping to actually see an increase in sales. Rob White, Co-Founder at ZEAL Creative After 18 years in advertising, Rob set up ZEAL Creative with his partner Stewart Hilton.  Together they have built a multi-award winning marketing agency which is currently the most effective brand activation agency in the UK and their team are The Drum's most recommended for client service. As an expert in marketing, Rob plays a key role in advising multi-national brands such as Kellogg's & Nestlé on brand strategy, understanding shopper behaviour and winning with retailers.  As well as being a director for the for the Institute of Promotional Marketing, Rob also acts as a mentor with new business start-ups for Tech Manchester.  Jeremy Stern, CEO of PromoVeritas Jeremy founded PromoVeritas after a successful career as a senior marketer with Kraft, BT and Tesco.  It was when he was the European Promotions Director at Coca-Cola that he identified the need for a service that provided independent promotional compliance advice. Someone to bridge the gap between agencies with amazing ideas and lawyers with a preference for caution.  PromoVeritas is now a team of 40+, with its own legal team, hundreds of clients and they ‘run it right' for thousands of promotions every year in the UK, Europe & globally – writing terms, picking winners of draws, judging competitions and hiding those instant win golden tickets.  Ben Greensmith, Lord Chocolonely iii, aka Country Manager at Tony's Chocolonely Tony's Chocolonely has a mission is to make chocolate free of child-labour and slavery; not just its chocolate but all chocolate worldwide.  Ben has been working for Tony's since September 2018 as employee number 1 setting up the UK operation. Say hello to Duncan Keith. He co-runs Days, a truly alcohol-free brewing company.    Launched back in October 2020, this Scottish 0.0% beer startup is riding the wave of moderation. Starting as mainly a direct-to-consumer brand they're now in over 500 physical locations, having sold over 1/4 million bottles to date.    Having recently raised £1mn to help fuel their growth with investors such as Mindful Chef's Giles Humphries, Propercorn's Ryan Kohn and Camden Town's former MD Adam Keary, they are preparing themselves for hoppy greatness.    However, the world of alcohol-free is fighting over way more than just Dry January and Sober October. Indeed, the NoLo category is worth $4bn globally and is expected to continue growing by 30-40% over the next five years.    This opportunity in the drinks market has excited a lot of people from innovators like Lucky Saint, Big Drop and Infinite Sessions through to big players like Heineken, Becks, Brewdog and even Guinness all launching their own alcohol free versions and putting big advertising budgets into supporting them.    So the question is - how will this thirsty start-up cope amongst all the competition, big and small, and what sets them apart in the choppy waters of the alcohol free beer market?   In this episode, we explore the human insights driving the moderation movement, what Days are doing that the big boys can't and what they plan to do with their new £1mn war chest?   Cheers.

The image in the logo of the Mojo Podcast is a vibrant butterfly - I love the image and the symbolism for a podcast about how we deal with, learn from and grow from change in our lives. And this week's episode is right on the money in this area. My guest this week is Mark Shayler and he talks to me about his own development and growth - his path to transcendence . Mark very openly and honestly points out the moments of deep introspection when he realised change wasn't just possible but vital to him. He describes himself as 'an introvert who hides in the spotlight'. We talk about big shifts in life, such as grieving potential, losing friends, building community, creating new things, his daily Qi Gong class on Instagram. We spend plenty of time talking about how he helps people present better (and he is a great presenter) when they are truly themselves up there on that scary stage. He says “don't be a character, be yourself - you can't forget your lines when you talk about your life” Other great quotes to look out for: "Comparison is the thief of happiness" "What is not transformed is transferred" Mark's consultancy, Ape, helps big companies think like small ones and small companies think like big ones. He works on innovation of products, services and business models; he works on sustainability and company purpose; and he coaches businesses and individuals. He has worked for Nike, Coca-Cola, Seedlip, Unilever, Hotpoint, Samsung, John Lewis, Fenwick, Bacardi, Diageo, Mars, Thorntons, 3M, Amazon, Panasonic and hundreds of funky little businesses like Propercorn, Teapigs, Hiut Denim, and Ugly Drinks. Margie’s castaway this week is Alex Petrides. Alex is a seriously impressive guy – he was the first employee at Propercorn, the incredibly successful popcorn company and has now gone on to found a company with his brother, Johnathan. The company is called allplants. allplants is a plant based food delivery company which is growing quickly and going from strength to strength. I really enjoyed chatting to Alex – he’s a really natural entrepreneur. He also definitely taught me something about what it is to be a vegan because Alex is so right – being vegan has been so tied up with clean eating that its all got a bit confusing in peoples heads – well definitely in my head, as you will hear when I ask him about making vegan caramel and kind of forget how to make caramel (shocker). But I definitely got a better understanding speaking to Alex because eing vegan doesn’t mean you also have to be gluten free or sugar free or that you are completely virtuous – you can be vegan and indulge in creature comforts Also listening back to this one was weird for me as I seem to do a dirty old man laugh at one point when we talk about butter….so I’m sorry about that. How great does that birthday party he threw sound with the piadinas? They sound so good – can’t believe I haven’t heard of them before – slightly embarrassing. Also the aubergine volcano sounds intriguing and as does his avocado and marmite sandwich? It sounds so weird that it could just work – and if Alex says it does then I’m going to trust him! If you like hearing people talking about delicious things and food they love – with the occasional creepy laugh thrown in, (I mean - who doesn’t?), then don’t forget to subscribe!
