His company RSD Designs has always been on the cutting edge of after market parts blending performance and style for Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles. Our homie Tony from Westside Motorcycle Collective put together his first event at the world-famous Roland Sands Design in Long Beach California and we were honored to have been a part of it. It was a humbling and cool experience to podcast inside their headquarters and we had some great guest for this one. Brennen Baptista and his homies Kraze and Franky sat down with us. Bunni from the Iron Goddess Motorcycle show sat down for a bit. We also had Anna, the one behind the scenes for Westside Motorcycle Collective sit down and break down a bit more about what they are doing for their area and the scene. This was a fun one as always. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE OLD SCHOOL CHOPPER BUILDERS? The good ole days us old timers call it. A time where a motorcycle was bare bones. Discover how the YZF-R7 provides the perfect balance of rider comfort and true supersport performance by checking it out at YamahaMotorsports.com, or see it for yourself at your local dealer. This Podcast is also brought to you by Schuberth Helmets and the new Schuberth C5. This week features Senior Editor Nic de Sena's impressions of the new KTM RC 390. The entry-level KTM has always been an impressive motorcycle that has sold extremely well, however the factory has now taken the bike to another level, with top-spec features that are typically found on flagship machines. Clearly KTM has realized that even smaller engined machines should have high spec suspension, brakes and electronics packages. Nic tells us how well the new RC 390 is equipped, and what he thought of riding the smaller displacement rocket. In the second segment I chat with automotive and motorcycle industry icon, Gordon McCall. Gordon is the Director of Motorsports at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel Valley, California. This weekend of Saturday May 14th sees the annual Quail Motorcycle Gathering re-start after its Covid-forced hiatus, and having attended every one of the previous Motorcycle Gatherings, personally I'm very happy that the event is back on the schedule. Gordon chats about the event and a little of what's happening this year. It's a great event and if you feel like a trip to the gorgeous Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, you'll get to meet Gordon, Roland Sands, and of course a large number of stunning motorcycles too. From all of us at Ultimate Motorcycling, we hope you enjoy this episode! 2022 KTM RC 390 Review Riding to the The Quail Motorcycle Gathering

Roland Sands is a motorcycle racer and designer of custom high-performance motorcycles. Sands is the son of Performance Machine founder Perry Sands, and he had spent a lot of time in his youth working at Performance Machine. Roland also spent years at the track, between 1994 and 2002 he secured numerous victories, multiple lap records and even secured the 1998 AMA 250GP Championship. It wasn't until 2004 and 2005 that the public truly got to know Roland the Bike Builder. This is when he created “The Hardway” and then went up against Arlen Ness during the 2005 season of Biker Build-Off. After the tremendous success Sands found on Discovery Channel's Biker Build-Off, Sands founded Roland Sands Design.Roland Sands Design (RSD) not only produces motorcycle parts, accessories and creates custom motorcycles it also offers an extensive apparel line. Roland doesn't like to limit himself and has also created events like the Moto Beach Classic which supports the Super Hooligan National Championship. Super Hooligan racing is a mashup of custom flat-track riders of varied ages and experience levels, riding bikes that are 750cc, 400lbs and above with no front brakes. The racing is inclusive and has a class for almost everyone.

This week on our motorcycle podcast we ventured up to San Francisco to attend the first annual Moto Bay Classic by Roland Sands Design. This event was amazing! There was cops vs. hooligans gymkhana, flat track racing, live music stage, art, custom bikes, vendors, food, and an amazing view. Emma and Liza wandered the event looking for good people to interview, and came up with some great ones. We talk to Roland Sands about putting on this event; Gage McAllister and his fast as f**k Alta Redshift; Carlin Dunne about setting records at Pike's Peak; Trevor Doniak and riding for Zero; Austin Rothbard with a Twistedroad.com update; and some of the police officers about the techniques and training required to do stop to stop turns and control. We also play a game about pronouncing those words we all say wrong, like Klim and Moto Guzzi. Play along and see how well you do. Congratulations to our winners this month. Hello all! Sorry this episode is so late being delivered. I felt like utter shit. I started the recording not feeling that bad due to the help of some medication, but things quickly went south. Then I went out of town for the weekend. I took my podcasting gear with me in hopes of getting the show out still, but I literally went to a barn raising. The manual labor wiped me out since I was already not feeling well, and I was asleep before the local hipsters even got ready to go out for the night. I started recording this episode Thursday, when it was sunny and 80 degrees. Today was Monday and it poured, and it included some thunder and lightning. So, for what it’s worth, my sincerest apologies. Tire swappin’: Playing with tires is a little bit like playing with your lover: You need to get them warmed up before hand. Always use a little lube and a little protection. Do a bit of prying and pulling in all the right places, and Voila!!-mutual satisfaction and smiles all around. Or you can go in like a sado-masochist- cold rubbber intertwined with a bunch of random metal. No protection, no lube. Scratching like a feral cat. Getting beat by and beating on smelly black rubber. Two sweaty hours of screaming and frustration later, you will have achieved the same results, but like BDSM, you both may be sore for a while after. How to remove tire (poor man’s bead breaking. spoons, irons, zip ties) How to mount & balance tire Replacing wheel bearings • Use tire spoon to remove seals • Heat hub if you can to expand it if necessary to get bearings out. • Tap bearing out with a punch, working your way around it so that it doesn’t go sideways in the hub. • Sometimes you may have to move the spacer in the hub if it’s exactly that same size as the bearing. • Put the new bearings in with a seal/bearing driver set (one of the only things that’s ok to buy at Harbor Freight). Heat the hub again if necessary, and you can also use the old bearings, a matching socket, or a matching piece of PVC pipe to drive the bearings home. • Put water resistant grease and install the new seal. Honee’s News! Honee delivers her special brand of industry news and perspective. It sounds like she was recording in a child factory, or a factory run by children… Honee? You got some splainin’ to do! Miscellanious thoughts: I’ve got my own crappy opinion about the EPA’s re-wording of the clean air act (first heard by us on the 2E Podcast). Apparently the EPA is targeting any plated vehicle in their new legislation. It won’t matter if you’re at a racetrack, a tradeshow, or a local swapmeet… according to the guys at Two Enthusiasts, you will be cited if your exhaust is not the factory emissions-compliant unit . I also talk about Victory Motorcycles, and why I think they didn’t make a move to acquire Buell. Parent company Polaris is busy setting their sights on Buell’s former lanista , Harley-Davidson. Thanks to it’s collaboration with Roland Sands, Polaris (indian specifically) has blown the doors open on the Hooligan racing class, and as a result, Indian has successfully entered the AMA twins class for 2016. Along with the success of the Indian brand with the new Scout and Scout Sixty, the Victory Octane and Ignition are generating interest alongside their stable mates, the Project 156 and Victory Empulse electric bike. Movie Review: Glory Stompers – 1967. Dennis Hopper (-R.I.P. One of the greats) This movie stinks! Well, sorry for being late, and sorry for every noise my clogged, congested head and mouth made on the microphone. Thanks to El Niño for that! Don’t forget the Solstice Slam.
