Send us Fan MailWhat happens when you strip away the gear, the gadgets — and even the shoes? Barefoot Ken is here to show us.Meet Ken Posner, also known as Barefoot Ken — ultramarathoner, analyst, author, and the man quietly redefining what it means to connect with nature, one shoeless summit at a time. In this episode, Ken traces his journey from Chicago city kid to barefoot adventurer, sharing how a single book — Born to Run — inspired him to ditch his shoes at age 50 and never really look back.We cover it all: how the Catskills Grid (35 peaks × 12 months = 420 summits) became his modern-day pilgrimage, what it took to complete the John Muir Trail barefoot across three attempts, the meaning behind a barefoot summit of Tsoodzil — a sacred Navajo peak in New Mexico — and why his 1,000 Barefoot Mountains goal (currently at 632!) is more than just a number.Ken also opens up about his minimalist "stretch the rubber band" philosophy, what our hunter-gatherer ancestors can teach us about slowing down on trail, and the surprisingly honest Appendix C in Chasing the Grid — a full catalog of his lifetime running injuries and what they taught him.Episode Links:Barefoot Ken on InstagramBarefoot Ken's WebsiteBarefoot Ken on XPurchase Chasing the GridThis episode was Produced by Jordyn Smith, follow her on Instagram @jordyn.journeysFollow us on Instagram, @HikesandmicsThis episode's music was created by Ketsa, follow him on Instagram @Ketsamusic AllTrails+I'm excited to share that I'm now a Trailheads Ambassador for AllTrails+! De Waal dinkt wohrschienli, wat he dat siet veer Weeken mit waschechte Seeungeheuers to kriegen hett. Groote Ungeheuers de Larm mokt un lütte Ungeheuers mit 'n Snorchel an Kopp. All de, de över Nacht to Puckelwaal-Experten worrn sünd. De beschimpt un beleidigt sick gegensiedig, dor fallt di nix mehr to in. Dorto sellt sick nu ook noch ganz besünners spezielle Spezialisten, de schrievt: „Ick stoh in Kontakt mit ‚Hope‘ sien Geist. Ohauhehaueha. Wenn de Waal wusst harr, wat em bleuht, denn harr he sick dat wohrschienli tweemol överleggt, utgereekend bi uns op Grund to loopen. Veellicht künnt em all de Hölpers intwüschen mol den Puckel dohlrutschen. Mi deiht he leed. Un dat ni blots, weil he sick verschwummen hett. In düssen Sinn

Stijn Schmitz welcomes David Skarica to the show. David Skarica is Contrarian Investor and the Founder of Profit From Pessimism. In this wide-ranging discussion, Skarica offers insights into current market dynamics, focusing on gold, commodities, and investment strategies. Skarica views the current gold market as part of a long-term macro trend that began in 1999, with potentially another four to six years of growth ahead. He attributes this potential to global debt levels, which have reached unprecedented heights. Central bank buying and potential retail investor interest are additional factors supporting gold’s trajectory. While gold has already seen significant appreciation, Skarica believes we are only in the first or second stage of its bull market in terms of pricing. Regarding mining stocks, Skarica is particularly interested in smaller miners near production or with strong cash flow potential. He sees opportunities in junior mining companies that can potentially increase their market capitalization significantly. His investment approach focuses on finding undervalued companies with asymmetric risk-reward profiles, preferring to make concentrated bets on a handful of carefully selected investments. Stijn also explores energy markets, with Skarica noting potential opportunities in oil, natural gas, and even renewable energy sectors. He suggests that the ongoing geopolitical tensions and increased energy demands from technological developments like AI could support higher energy prices and create investment opportunities. Skarica’s investment philosophy emphasizes contrarian thinking, patience, and seeking value in overlooked or undervalued assets. He warns against over-concentration in any single investment and recommends diversification across sectors and careful position sizing. At the age of 16, he read the small booklet “The Plague of the Black Debt”, by James Dale Davidson, which was given to him by his uncle. David was always a sports stat nut, loving football, hockey and baseball stats, which lead to David becoming intrigued with economics and markets. David is such an avid Football and Las Vegas Raiders fan — his principal in grammar school was Bernie Custis, who was the late Raiders owner Al Davis’ roommate at Syracuse University, and the first ever African American quarterback in college and pro football history — that he also runs his own football vlog, Raiders Greats, which discusses great Raiders player of the past. He also is a soccer fan who supports Leeds Utd., as his father was born in Leeds, England. In 1996, at the age of 18, David became the youngest person on record (that he knows of anyhow) to obtain the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) license to trade investment securities. In the late 1990s, David felt that the market was becoming another epic bubble similar to the bubble of the 1920s, so he decided at the tender age of 20 to write his first book, Stock Market Panic!, which was published in 1998. Over the next decade, gold soared from $250 an ounce to nearly $1900, while the S&P 500 lost value. In the same year that this book was published, he decided to start his newsletter, Addicted to Profits. The newsletter's name was a spin on Robert Palmer's famed song Addicted to Love. The irony was Robert Palmer recorded this song in the Bahamas ay the famous Compass Point Recording Studio, and David himself would end up moving to the Bahamas in 2005 (another Irony about David moving to the Bahamas is that his mentor Sir John Templeton also resided there).

There's a theme developing in 2026 and after his suffering of the past few years it seems Borrie might be in for some relief. That's because Marc Marquez has so far been an afterthought while Aprilia - and especially Bez - run rampant. All three classes entertained and enthralled this week while the Bagger racing exceeded expectations. All in all, 2026 is looking pretty damn interesting. Lessons Learning from My First Jobs - Grocery Store Bagger. This is episode 812 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast. Did you have a job or two before you entered your career field? Maybe you started in high school and then college before finally entering the path that you were ultimately focused on achieving. Just to be clear, when I say a job, I do mean working for someone other than your father or parent or guardian. Actually, having a boss and getting an official paycheck - you know one where taxes are removed from your gross pay? My first job that fits this description was grocery store bagger for a local branch of Pantry Pride. A fairly large store that was just about everywhere in Florida during the 70s and 80s. In this role I bagged groceries and offered to help you take them to your car. That was my main purpose, but the role had many other requirements. Some of them included - spot mopping, straightening aisles and restocking shelves, retrieving shopping carts from the park lot, and assisting customers. It was a great learning experience. I had a great boss and several co-workers that made time spent fun. While I was a grocery bagger, I learned several skills and lessons that have been impactful to this day. During this reflection I will share those skills that have remained with me all these years. This episode is the first in a multiple part series that looks at these early jobs and what stayed with me as I moved forward in my adult life. Did you have a first job that created lessons that impact you and your job today? What were those lifelong lessons? It would be great if you shared those lessons with me. If you go to my website there is a box that lets you contact me. There also is a place that you could leave me a voice message. Thanks for listening. Please share. All the best! Think You Know Silver? This isn't a meme coin, penny stock, or hype-driven asset. It's physical silver, exploding against a G7 fiat currency. What's happening in Japan isn't isolated; it's a flashing red warning for the global financial system. In this video, we break down the dramatic 3X surge in silver priced in yen, the collapse of confidence in long-term bonds, and the systemic cracks forming in fiat currencies worldwide. As Japanese Government Bond (JGB) yields rise, capital is repatriating fast. Ich wache auf, bevor der Wecker klingelt. Habe ich den Wecker vergessen? Schaue aufs Handy. Oscar für One Battle After Another.

The “maximum power principle” may sound like the doctrine of an evil supervillain, but it actually applies to all living creatures. The principle states that biological systems organize to increase power whenever constraints allow. Given the way humans adhere to this principle, especially by overexploiting fossil fuels, we often do behave like supervillains, wielding power in wildly irresponsible ways and triggering climate change, biodiversity loss, and other aspects of our sustainability predicament. Sometimes it seems like we're using a backhoe to dig our own grave. Fortunately, once you understand efficiency and its different flavors, you can see opportunities to optimize power rather than maximize it. While considering the outlook for humanity, the Crazy Townies ponder a weird question: are we smarter than reindeer? Richard Heinberg, author of Power: Limits and Prospects for Human Survival, joins the team to share his research on how people can optimize power.
