Some states are handling the problem better than others, which is to be expected, but the simple explanation for this is that more and more people are struggling to afford the cost of living. Biden is ruining people's lives. Does anyone remember this even being an issue under Trump? Jeff Carcara, CEO of Sixty Vines, says he owes a lot to the Hillstone Restaurant Group, the hospitality company where he began his career. He followed that start with stints at innovative casual-dining players, including Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52 and Del Frisco. Carcara now leads Sixty Vines, an eight-location polished casual differentiated by its unique wine-on-tap initiative and vineyard-inspired global menu. The restaurant came onto his radar when he dined there as a guest and was wowed by the sustainable, flexible beverage program featuring keg wines, cocktails, kombucha and even cold-brew coffee—all on tap. That, along with the concept's craveable, shareable food and relaxed vibe, made a lasting impression. Listen as Carcara describes how Sixty Vines is changing wine culture to make it more approachable and fun, how he's working to expand the chain around the country and why the brand is finding fans among diners in every generation.

Darden Restaurants' Q4 and fiscal year earnings report Thursday included several positive headlines, such as LongHorn Steakhouse's strong results, outperformance on traffic and a steady consumer set.The company's earnings call came about a week after Darden finalized its $715 million Ruth's Chris acquisition, adding to its fine dining portfolio. Ruth's Chris joins an increasingly diversified roster that includes not only LongHorn and Olive Garden, but also Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen, Yard House, The Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Bahama Breeze, Eddie V's and The Capital Burger. Though way too early to understand Ruth's Chris' impact on Darden's overall performance, CEO Rick Cardenas expects plenty of synergies to come – to the tune of approximately $20 million by the end of fiscal 2025 primarily through supply chain and G&A savings. He also expects the integration to be accreditive to Darden's earnings per share by about 10 cents to 12 cents in fiscal 2024 and by 20 cents to 25 cents by fiscal 2025.

Mark and his business partner Paul met in 2004 at Bahama Breeze. Mark had just relocated his family to Orlando to be the General Manager of the Intl. Drive location, and Paul was his bar manager. From the very start, they were already more like brothers than friends. Days off, vacations, and days on the boat, both families eventually grew close too, and their kids grew up together. They both talked about starting their own restaurant.Mark relocated to Las Vegas in 2007, but they stayed in touch. They could go months without talking, but then when they did it was as if no time passed, with them picking up where they left off. Mark and Paul still went on vacations in Orlando, and the pair continued to talk of starting something of “their own”. This plan was eventually realized when Mark got a text from Paul in August 2016 – he had quit his job.At this point, Mark was overseeing 5 restaurants (each) in Las Vegas and LA. Paul flew to LA, where Mark introduced him to his favorite restaurants, some of which he enjoyed, and others where he didn't. When the food fest was done, they went on a road trip back to Vegas while discussing the concept of their soon-to-be restaurant. They came up with three things: incredible food, remarkable service, and something that was easy to replicate. This led to the birth of the Island Fin Poke Company!Mark's Las Vegas kitchen became the starting point of their poke. Friends and family gathered to taste test sauces. Over the course of a few months, their homemade sauces were finally created - fresh, delicious, and all gluten free.Mark and I discuss the history, the present growth and future of this fast paced, fast-casual restaurant franchise brand. Founded in 2017 in Orlando Fl, there are now 20 locations open, 8 under Construction and 12 in development in 13 states. Restaurants are still the most popular franchise category and IFPC is a low cost start up, healthy & fairly easy to operate. Please reach out to us with any questions about this brand or any others. On this episode of Emerging Brands, Mark Setterington, President and Chief Executive Officer of Island Fin Poke Company talks about taking a leap of faith, creating a restaurant brand from scratch, and the importance of feeling welcomed like family at his restaurants. Setterington shares how he met Paul Reas at Bahama Breeze fifteen years ago and how their friendship would bring them together to create Island Fin Poke Company. He tells the story of Paul quitting his job, heading to meet Setterington in Las Vegas where he was working at the time and the impact a road trip dedicated to eating would have in their menu. All of the recipes for Island Fin Poke were developed in Setterington's home and tested by friends and family. Setterington spent nine weeks in Hawaii and never had poke, his love for Hawaii came from the culture because it is all about family. He treats his vendors, guests and franchisees.Setterington says, when they decided to do their own thing it was about building a lifestyle, not a job. He wanted to spend more time with family and playing golf, so he said, they decided on fast-casual. Zero complexity was the mission. Even though Setterington had planned to have two or three restaurants after opening his first in Orlando Florida, he soon realized that they had a great opportunity for a franchise brand. He discusses the steps to becoming a franchise, what is involved in making those changes and the importance of being a good partner to franchisees. Tune in to the podcast to learn about Island Fin Poke's company culture, their plan for expansion in the future and the advice Setterington would give himself during the conception of Island Fin Poke.

In our current polarized world, we really need to just sit down and have genuine conversations with each other in order to recognize the humanity in others. In this episode of The Journey of my Mother's Son podcast, I once again sit down with my good friend, and brother from another mother, Anthony Henderson. Anthony and I met through Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) during the spring of 2020. We were both going through the certification training process to become coaching workshop trainers for PCA. We did our first podcast together on June 24, 2020. That podcast was done on Zoom, while we were sitting 1,100 miles apart. This time, we got to do it sitting in our RV, just outside of a Bahama Breeze in Sunrise, Florida. Anthony is the definition of positivity. He is always upbeat and offers those he interacts with words of encouragement. During our conversation, Anthony and I talk about how we as a society really need to start taking the time to listen to one another. There are way too many people in our world who just want to shout over each other, as opposed to simply sitting down and having a conversation. A real conversation where there is dialog, empathy, and understanding. Conversation where we are trying to listen twice as much as we're speaking. The good Lord gave us two ears and one mouth, we really should start using our ears twice as much as our mouth. We live in a day and age where we try to make everything political. The truth is, most things that are going on in the world today are not political at all, they're human issues. The left and the right continue to try to divide us, but in fact, most people are more in the center. We need to stop waiting for Washington to solve our problems and get out into our own little communities and start being the change that we want to see. Just like the song in which the subtitle of my podcast says, “Many little people in many little places.” That subtitle was derived from the opening lyrics of the Michael Franti song, “Gloria,” which states, “When many little people in many little places, do many little things, then the whole world changes.” We need more little people doing more little things in their own little communities and the ripple effect of those positive actions will truly change the world. Days like this, when Sandy and I get to connect and break bread with people that God has given us the blessing to have our paths cross really make us realize what a wonderful journey we are on.

Today is National Tequila Day. Tequila is one of my favorite drinks. The first time I ever had it was in Mexico back in 1983. Have you ever seen the worm at the bottle of Tequila? It freaked me out the first time I saw one. Couldn't believe that people actually drank it. Tequila is made from the blue agave plant which is harvested by hand. It's stripped down and ground up in a stone bowl and then the extract is collected and distilled. One of my favorite brands is Herradura Tequila it's smooth and best when chilled. How can you celebrate Tequila Day? Well, if you have a Bahama Breeze restaurant near you, they're offering $5 Margaritas 7/24 - 7/26. Better yet, pick up Or, pick up a nice bottle of tequila (see above link) and make them at home with some fresh squeezed lime juice and simple sugar, blend with ice and viola - you're Margarita. You can also add fruit of your choice. I just love a Strawberry Margarita. Be sure to call over some friends, and have them bring the Guacamole, chips and Salsa dip, put on some Mexican tunes and get in the groove. You could also go for a tequila tasting. Check out your local libation stores to see if anyone is running one. Have fun, share some of your Margarita or Tequila drinks and remember to always drink responsibly. Cheers, Dawn-Marie XO

Our Third Annual "Night Before the Daytona 200 Show" This show was LIVE from the Bahama Breeze across from Daytona International Speedway before a LIVE audience. Three generations of Daytona 200 winners joined us on this show. It was heard LIVE by tens of thousands of listeners on WNDB AM1150/FM93.5 who were in Daytona for the 75th Daytona Bike Week. Thousands more heard it around the world on the WNDB app. Without a doubt we made history in this epic "Night before the 200 Show". 5 time Daytona 200 winner, Mr Daytona, Scott Russell joined us and remained onboard for our Q & A with Danny Eslick and Dick Klamfoth. Danny Eslick went on the record about being denied the opportunity to win his third consequetive Daytona 200. His comments were straight forward and insightful. Dick Klamfoth won the 200 in 1949, 1951 and 1952 on the sands of Daytona Beach. His description of a lap on the beach was truly amazing. Scott Russell asked great questions of Eslick and Klamfoth and told a story that you have likely never heard before about being arrested in 1997 on the night before he set pole and won the Daytona 200! History was made as Barry Boone introduced Klamfoth and Russell. The joy was palpable as well as the respect between these two greast championship riders. Russell remained on board for to co-host the entire show. There is no way to describe the convergence of history as three generations of Daytona 200 champions told their timeless stories. This show is a recording and rebroadcast of our LIVE show on Thursday March 10, 2016 from the Bahama Breeze in Daytona Beach during our 75th Daytona Bike Week coverage. This is show number 4 of 5 for the week! GloriaTramontin Struck first rode her motorcycle from New Jersey to Daytona Bike Week in 1951! That was a 1950 Hydra Glide Harley-Davidson. Today she ride her Heritage Softtail Classic touring America. Gloria has been a Motor Maid for 70 years! She was a great guest. Norm Nelson has competed in the last two Motorcycle Cannonballs. He finished 3rd in his first attempt, 2nd in his second attempt. Can he win the 2016 Motorcycle Cannonball? We ask him that and more! He will be riding a 1911 Reading Standard motorcycle. Joe Gimpel is set to compete on his 650 Thor. The process of prepping these old classics is a big part of the story. Navigating and riding these machines requires tremendous committment and we go inside this aspect of this unique cross country ride with Joe. These old machines only make 5 to 10 horsepower and the trick is climbing up and over the Rockie Mountains. How will Joe approach that? We find out in this episode of Talking Motorcycles powered by Crosley Brands! Every once in a while in our house both kids will find other places to be on a weekend night. This last Friday was one such occasion. While sitting at the bar at Bahama Breeze waiting for our table, we struck up a conversation with the couple next to us. Turns out the husband was Shawn Seipler, CEO of CleanTheWorld.org. It's pretty impressive what his organization does. What's more impressive is his story of success to failure to success, a story Shawn will be sharing on a future episode. Had we decided to go to a table when our buzzer buzzed, we never would have met them and heard their amazing story. Don't be afraid to sit at the bar once in a while... you never know who you'll meet. ----------------------------------------- Connect with Transform Radio - On Facebook , On Google+, On Twitter, On Pinterest, On iTunes (oh, and we love 5 star reviews!)
