Starring the lovable Tobey Maguire, these campy yet fun live action adaptations of our our favorite web-slinger captivated audiences and in many ways defined superhero movies as they are known today. Spider-Man 3 is often seen as the black sheep of an otherwise masterpiece of a trilogy, but is there any value to its overly-goofy-while-dark-at-the-same-time plot? Look. We can all admit it. Tobey Maguire is an ugly crier. This week, we're starting our deep dive into the phenomenon of the millenia: superhero movies. And itโs only right that we start with the poster-child grandaddy: the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy (but also, like... should it be?) Much like the overly-aggressive man-child in red tights, we pull no punches as we examine why we all fell into a hypnotic stupor with these films, as well as what actually constitutes a good interpretation of Peter Parker. Long title sequences are included. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter @redteampod, and email us at redteampod@gmail.com!
On this episode of the podcast, we look back at one of the most important superhero films of all time, 2002's Spider-Man, Directed by Sam Raimi and Starring Toby Maguire. As we look back on this mega-hit, we cover what worked, what didn't, and what the film did for superhero movies at the time. We also discuss a similar transformation happening in the comic book industry when the film came out and how that reflected on 2002's Spider-Man! Enjoy and thanks for listening!

You know the old saying: "Hell is bad CGI." In 1997, somewhere in between Tim Burton's Batman and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, a strange little film rose up from the gates of bad CGI* (*Hell - see above) and it was called SPAWN! Starring Michael Jai White as the titular character, as well as other people, the R-rated idea was forced into a PG-13 film, and the results were mixed to say the least. Luke and Rachel are not fans of most superhero movies, but with a goofy trailer and strong buzz, Shazam appeared to be nothing like most superhero movies. Unfortunately, the latest cinematic installment in the DC Extended Universe is so basic it feels like it could have been released 15 years ago to capitalize on the success of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. Just minutes after leaving the theater, your favorite podcast couple sits down to work out why Shazam falls so flat. NOTE: This episode is plagued by occasional Talk Movies To Me supervillain: Random Clicking. Specifically, the final 5-10 minutes feature clicking noises of unknown origin that thwarted all of Luke's best attempts to fight back. Hopefully we'll put a stop to these evil antics once and for all before they get a chance to wreak havoc on our unsuspecting podcast again.
What would happen to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man universe if, in Spider-Man 2, Tobey "Michaelangelo Peter" Park delivered that gosh darn pizza ON TIME! You, I kid you not, would NEVER guess how much of the timeline is about to change. 3:08 - The Pizza Time Universe Begins

Did you know that the Matrix paid homage to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man with the slowmo bullet dodging scene? Same with Michaelangelo and the Sistine Chapel! A lot of people also don't realize that Jared Leto has found a way to sneak into every single movie ever made!
