What Would Jerry Do?A Faustian bargain never ends well. Selling one's soul for an earthly prize. So it won't end well for Republicans who have sold their soul. That is any sense of honesty, morality, the Big Lie, to the extreme right wing empowered by Trump for a momentary victory in the primaries. A younger generation, indeed a multicultural one at that, is not likely to sign on what used to be a respected political party and is now a personality worshipping loyalty demanding cult. The G.O.P. 1854-2022 Rest In Peace. The gang plays a game called what would Jerry do? Four hypothetical scenarios that may or may not have happened to Jerry in the past. Jerry's Baaaaack! Jerry talks about the passing of the queen and gets emotional talking about his extended family being exterminated by Nazis and his parents getting visas at the last second to escape into England. Which is where Jerry was born in a subway (or tube) that was being used as a bomb shelter. The duality of the Monarchy as a symbol of racism and how it also during WWII brought England together when there was no hope for the country. How are Kim Kardashian and the queen similar? Royalty are a bunch of rich snobs, but they do have good causes. Some royals see it as a prison. Let's discuss... Should Thomas Jefferson Be Removed From Mt. Rushmore? After the New York city council removed Thomas Jefferson's statue, should Jefferson's statue also be removed from Mt. Rushmore? While Jefferson famously wrote "All men are created equal", he acted like a white supremacist in his treatment of people of color, his own slaves and the indigenous people of this country. We hear the podcast's discussion about this issue and even hear a song Casey Campbell wrote in light of these developments. Tonight, we read listener's notes from the suggestion box.Are we in a historical moment where schools, just like in the 1970s (but for a different reason) should desegregate? This week's guest on the podcast is another mandolin legend, Tim O'Brien! Born in Wheeling, West Virginia on March 16, 1954, Grammy winning singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist Tim O’Brien grew up singing in church and in school, and after seeing Doc Watson on TV, became a lifelong devotee of old time and bluegrass music. Tim first toured nationally with Colorado bluegrass band Hot Rize, who last year marked 40 years as a band. Kathy Mattea scored a country hit with his song Walk The Way The Wind Blows in 1986, and soon more artists like Nickel Creek and Garth Brooks covered his songs. Over the years, Tim has collaborated with his sister Mollie O’Brien, songwriter Darrell Scott, and noted old time musician Dirk Powell, as well as with Steve Earle, Mark Knopfler, Bill Frisell, and Steve Martin. For more info on Tim be sure to check out his WEBISTE which has his shop and all his social media links! I think we started to sound too tired by the end of the podcast. I want to spice up the intro music and make the opening segment sound less like you were thrown into the middle of the podcast. Bring back the original wed sling end noise. OR a medley of all of the web things he yells.

Under the costume for Michaelangelo in the live-action Ninja Turtle movies lies your friendly neighborhoos Spider-Man! Quite the master of disguise is Tobey. That is, of course, unless you're comparing him to the mastery level of Dana Carvey in Master of Disguise.
The bus driver from Spiderman is also in the new live-action Kim Possible movie! Tobey Maguire was in the Vietnam War before he was Spiderman! If Normal Norman has two left feet: RUN!
Did you know that the Matrix paid homage to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man with the slowmo bullet dodging scene? Same with Michaelangelo and the Sistine Chapel! A lot of people also don't realize that Jared Leto has found a way to sneak into every single movie ever made!
Jene answers his phone on the air again being unprofessional again by not turning off his phone. Maria and Jerry properly scold him on the air. He apologizes and then Maria's phone rings and she takes a call Jene and Jerry complain to her for also not turning off her ringer. Then Jerry, the ultimate professional broadcaster's phone rings causing Jene and Maria to yell at him. We all wonder if we're too stupid to do a national podcast.Jerry's rant: The end is near for Donald Trump, and for some of us it can't come soon enough!Music tonight by our own Casey Campbell. We chat about the Music to Life events of March 4, the podcast, house party at the Altmans and afterparty at Octave, with thanks to many, a nod to the finalists and the grand winner, Casey Campbell and Krystal Peterson, as well as Noel Stookey. What a treat! We compliment Jerry on his singing of "Blowing in the Wind" and "If I Had a Hammer." Would he consider giving voice lessons at Folk School Coffee Parlor? After all, he'll need some part time work whenever his TV show ends. Then, Jene and Megan hammer Jerry for his very inauspicious choices in rental cars. This week on MCR, it's Mando Mania as we assemble a multi-generational gathering of some of the finest mandolin pickers on Earth. Nashville native Casey Campbell, who grew up at and around the GOO and the elite of bluegrass curates an evening of mando solos, duos and full band performances. With Tim O'Brien, Sam Bush, Mike Compton and the man who brought us Rocky Top, Bobby Osborne. Also an extraordinary ensemble set on a rare visit to Nashville by the one and only mandolin stylist Andy Statman. It's a small instrument that punches above its weight. Join us for a season closing special edition of MCR.
Bluegrass, more than any other genre of music I've ever seen, raises and nurtures its next generation of musicians and fans. Through festival culture, picking parties and families, kids get involved early and develop rapidly. And with each decade, it seems the prodigies are younger and better. It's something else to watch. In this hour, interviews with three rising stars of bluegrass music. They're young, hungry and really good. Molly Tuttle, Casey Campbell and Billy Strings are my guests. They have a few things in common. They are all 24 years old. They all grew up in households that were full of bluegrass music. And they're all in Nashville finding their footing as professionals. That's about where the similarities stop. They're from very different parts of the country and they have personal visions for their music. Together they offer a composite look at the present and near future of a genre that keeps regenerating and changing while maintaining its core identity and passion for an original sound and repertoire. It's a play in three acts. First Molly Tuttle talks about evolving from a precocious young guitarist to a songwriter/artist/bandleader. Then mandolinist Casey Campbell talks about the power of mentorship and fellowship, something that allowed him to make a duets album with his heroes. And finally, the blazing guitarist and band leader Billy Strings talks about escaping a hard-luck town in Michigan and becoming a musician with a social conscience.
Jene and Jerry goof on each other's recent disparate vacations - Jene driving four thousand miles across America and back and sleeping in a tent, while Jerry and his people jetted to America's finest venues for two weeks.Jene compares the Mark Zuckerberg entourage he witnessed at Logan Pass in Glacier National Park with ones of Jerry's that he's seen. Jene got a cut rate “senior” pass for all the national parks he and Bonnie visited on his trip. Did Jerry get a half-off pass for Coronado? Then, we update our "Dating Megan" sweepstakes. We're deluged with requests weekly, but Megan is about to get married. Is this fair to her fans? Then Jerry wonders: Would Donald Trump pardon himself? Or his family? Jerry takes a look into what might be the future. Our musical guest this week is our own Casey Campbell: https://www.caseycampbellmusic.com/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Whether it’s finishing work on his long-awaited third solo album or finding the perfect spot for a new recording studio, Brian Olive is a man of infinite patience. That explains why the sessions for his upcoming effort, Living on Top, took close to three years, as the retro sound-loving former member of beloved Cincinnati garage rock icons The Greenhornes and Detroit’s hard-charging Soledad Brothers toiled to make sure it sounded just right. Based on a preview of four songs Olive played on the latest edition of WCPO’s Lounge Acts podcast, the results are well worth the wait. Asked when he started working on Top, Olive was pretty sure it was 2015. But then he was reminded by a band member that it was actually the year before, explaining that “a few things” were getting in the way. “It was worth taking the time to do because I like the way this one worked out,” he said. Taking over the Digital Lounge with an all-star band that included Yusef Quotah (Halvsies, You, You’re Awesome) on keyboards, Tim Seiwert (Whiskey Shambles, Casey Campbell) on drums, bassist Andy Jody (Barrence Whitfield & the Savages) and back-up singers Beth Harris (The Hiders, the Perfect Children) and Kristen Kreft (The Perfect Children), Olive rocked the room with a heavy dose of his patented Motown-influenced soul. The album’s title track is a propulsive choogle that mixes the blue-eyed soul of Steve Winwood’s Traffic with such Motor City legends as Mitch Ryder and Bob Seeger, with Olive handling both the chicken scratch lead guitars, yearning vocals and playing a wicked, frenetic saxophone solo. The gang recaps stories from their trip to the Democratic National Convention: Bernie delegates, Jerry's role in Convention media, logistics, Facebook Live and Jerry speaking to state delegations. Jerry explains that there has never been an election like this one. The very idea of America is at stake. He discusses Trump's reaction to the Khan family and how it's not enough to blast Trump for being insensitive, but what about the people supporting him who now know what he's about. Right now there is no Republican Party. Next, a Southern conservative named Susie Sampson calls in to sing God Bless America with Jerry. Susie screws up the words. Then Jerry gives it a shot. Casey Campbell comes to the rescue. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
