It has been quite an experience 'incroyable' ! Mylene Farmer LIVE is beyond words; again she has touched me very deep. This time.... front row experience. Hard to explain, it's a feeling, it's a walking dream, it's something unique. This podcast is dedicated to Mylegrave;ne, her music, her unique live performance. The trip was a serious one.... and for Mylegrave;ne it was her final concert of the 2009 tour.Log: departure by train from Rotterdam Lombardijen @12:40pm. Dordrecht station @13:00. Change line for the next train: IC Hispeed to Brussels MIDI/ZUID. Arrival in Brussels @14:40. I decided to walk the last bit from the station to the hotel; next time I will definitely take the subway! It turned out to be a 15 minutes climbing up the hill task! Finally.....arrival at the hotel @15:15. After relaxing and unpacking the bag I recorded a soundseeingtour as featured on this podcast episode.Brussels on that particular friday afternoon was noisy and messy! Hate to say it but the chaos and noise in this city caused a typical impression. (...tout est chaos!) I've been in London and Paris but somehow these cities seem to have 'structure' and 'manners', unfortunately Brussels didn't show these features too much... People disliked speaking English to me. They simply hesitated. I was better off speaking Dutch in some cases. Don't get me wrong but Brussels is the headquarters of Europe isn't it? (Say that again while stores are closed on sundays)Saturday morning: alarm clock set @7:30AM. American Breakfast in the hotel was good. Left the hotel for my trip to Stade Roi Baudouin via subway. Arrived at the SRB station @9:30. I realized to get cash money for the official merchandizing t-shirts etc. later that day so where was the cash machine...? I asked around and was directed to the nearest bank at app. 2 km's from where I was! Not very practical isn't it? Welcome to Belgium. Ah well, good for some sweat and tears.Back at the stadium 'blue entry' around 11:00AM. Already like 30/40 people waiting for the doors to open up and I joined them. The sun was shining! Life was good! Some drinks, some sandwiches that I got on my way from the bank back to the stadium.Green light for entering the stadium area @1:30PM. Here we were able to buy lunch, water, beer etc. Soundchecking we could hear as the concert area was real close now...The waiting was till 5:00PM when the final gate to the concert area would open. And it did! Right on time... exactly 05:00pm we were running to our places!!! Literally, running!!! How cool is that??? Yess!!! Front row. Cat walk. All set. I was in !!!@8:00pm the program started. Excuse me but I've forgotten the name of the drum band that had their pre-concert performance. Just like me I saw many people staring and being nervous just before the real thing....We wanted Mylegrave;ne! Waiting again. Eventually Mylegrave;ne kept her fans waiting till app. 09:30PM (!) when her eyes watched us from the bigggg screen. The show was starting....with the introduction. And that is an understatement;Thrilling opening! I will never ever forget her eye watching from the screen and the lasers that literally were 'shot' from the screen into the public, a 3D experience I had never seen before! The sound was beyond words. And I've heard a lot of sound systems in my life.... this one was f a n t a s t i q u e . Everybody (including me) was screaming and yelling, such a mind blowing lift-off. The concert from there can be described as a non-stop walking dream, Mylegrave;ne took her fans on a journey, a journey that came from her mind, her soul, her dreams and was performed in a stadium filled with the 40,000 people audience.Acoustic parts of the show, she had entered the center of the catwalk via the underground like the pianist did too. The songs they performed now...I can hardly describe it but let me try: moving and intriguing moments, confusion and joy, tears on all of our faces; 'Point de Suture' and the clip...

When you're not living under a rock and enjoy the internet and media like we do, chances are high we're living the same digital dream. So we better keep the dream alive and safe right? Music on today's show comes from our neighbours in Germany: Thomas Lemmer released a wonderful lounge/downtempo album entitled "Chillout Lounge" and we're proud to play two tracks from the album; 'Mon Amour' offers relaxation and a beautiful melody, almost a melancholic side as the Bandoneon sets the tone. Relaxation day....great coffee (from the Nespresso machine) and a bit of healing with fantastic ambient music from Slovakia. Via the postal we received an album from Emil Matko; he started Strom Noir in the beginning of 2007. We experienced the album 'Luvyoo' as a welcome treatment: super ambient, just take the time to switch that knob inside your head, don't think but breathe in and out, the two tracks we play on this show really have that captured mood: "Nothing Really Happens" feels like the earth stands still and we're watching ourselves from a distance. Second we visit the "Heartland" where past and present meet and greet. Where past and present meet and greet: Luvyoo gets 5 out of 5! Some notes from the Strom Noir Myspace site: ...Music of Strom Noir flows between slow ambient and minimal electronic sounds with using electric and acoustic guitar loops and synths as a basis integrated with field recordings and various abstract sounds. The result of this mixture are the minimalistic atmospheric soundscapes strongly touched by the melancholy. If there was a place where we can live in peace, a place where we all love eachother and we all have the time to listen to one another, one of our greetest needs, that place would be called: Utopia. Welcome to UtopiaXO produced by Dave Hesketh. Start listening to "The Light" and you won't be able to stop anymore, you want to hear this one from beginning till end and forget about your mobile phones and appointments... It's a wonderful story which will take you by surprise, it's crystal clear audio quality is stunning! It's 'live' feel is impressive. The samples and surround recordings really become one with the music. Beautiful music and subtle vocals. One of the best ambient/new age albums avalaible at this moment. UtopiaXO "The Light" - ambient music was born - This album started its life in the late summer of 2007. I was sat in the studio experimenting with a midi guitar. After playing for 20 minutes I noticed a feedback loop had started within the music - it was a beautiful, inspiring sound that meandered along - seemingly in control of itself. An hour later the whole structure for this album was mapped out through utilising this feedback technique. You can hear this original sound throughout the album. In fact, it's the first sound you'll hear on 'The Light'. I then, by chance, met Jacqueline Barr. She explained to me that our home and the studio (in our garden) sat on a sacred and special site. It was thought that the studio may lie right in the path of a powerful earth energy line - sometimes called lsquo;leylines'. I immediately knew that I had tapped into this energy that summer morning when I had sat down with the guitar. So earth ambient music was born. I very much believe sincere music taps into the life energy force more than any other art form. I hope and believe that this magical place has now found an expression in a small but sincere way through this music. I also hope this magical energy finds its way to you as you experience the energy of nature that will fill your room as you listen to UtopiaXO - Dave Hesketh. May, 2009. One could say it's a difference between day and night but let us put it into the right perspective here: The vocals by Lisa's Antenna are sounding much warmer and more subtle than before. The overall mix is a much better balance between high and low frequencies, the compression from before especially in the high range has gone... "Are You There" is now like she's sitting next to you, "Fall" has turned into a warm blanket. Once you start playing the tracks you only want to pump up the volume and really dive into this Little World and stay. Mastering act by Christopher Leary. Why don't we fly to the edge of the unknow/known, why don't we experience 'The Edge of a Fairytale' by this great artist from Sweden: Between Interval. They did it again! Hi quality music from one of the most beautiful countries up North from our perspectives. Between Interval is Stefan Strand; he started playing around with sounds at the age of 14, inspired by Jean-Michel Jarre and the SEGA master system for instance. Later releasing house, trance and progressive music under a different name. The ambient motto never left Stefan: The Spotted Peccary label had an excellent nose for his style! They released his albums 'Radio Silence', 'Secret Observatory, 'Autumn Continent'. Stefan got 'top pick' album @ Amazon, Top List for new age in 2006 and 2007. On today's show we play 3 tracks in a row from his latest new ambient adventure sent to us by Spotted Peccary themselves: "The Edge of a Fairytale". Tracks are simply deep... (sounds from the woods and the rain are not included on the album!) There's a mystical tone, some might say: nbsp;-dark- ? Well, that is 'dark' in the sense of 'not knowing what to expect'. Stefan invites us to experience what we know and what we don't know at all.... Are you in? Enjoy the music, enjoy the recipe. It's now already May 10th 2009 and we're on a countdown for the June Holidays... but first: let's have a fresh cup of coffee shall we? Meanwhile: good photos have been added to our photostream: the Calatrava bridge transport through Rotterdam. A great Santiago Calatrava Valla designed item. Click the Flickr link at the right sidebar for full details. Images go well with music right? Let's introduce our artist for today; We're proud to present: CRASH from New Zealand. His album series: Music for Film. When we first visited his Myspace site and listened to a couple of his tracks: bingo! This music just had to be on the podcast; good quality soundtrack music, high production level, touching melodies mixed with cinematic soundscapes. We can also tell you: we're gonna hear a lot more from Crash in the near future. More information via his Myspace site and for this occassion we've copy-pasted from his site to ours... CRASH is born Mike Beever winter of 1969 in the north of England. At a very early age he is introduced to music through his father, a church organist and his mother a keen 'New Seekers' fan!He develops an interest in uplifting and soaring music through his love of the great composers in particular J.S Bach, Handel, Mozart and Beethoven but it is when he comes ear to ear with film and music that the potent mix strikes a chord. Throughout his teenage years he begins a love affair with sound synthesis aquiring his first synths at age 14 and going on to start experimenting with sound and recording throughout these years. After many years travelling he settles in London and takes position as house engineer at Station Studios and goes on to produce successful LPs, Eps and singles for Coldplay, Seafood, Tiny Too and Fierce Panda Records. CRASH moves to the north of England, Spain and eventually New Zealand in the Spring of 2003 where he lives and works. The next few years begin to take his music to a whole new level and with less distraction and more time he begins to mould his very own brand of music. 'Film Soundtrack Electronica' is the nearest description to what now is produced from the Lodge Studios. Often simple pieces beginning with the piano grow into full orchestral soundscapes only suitable for wide expanse and a wide imagination by the listener. Across the world CRASH is heard by a wide variety of people. He touches emotions through his music and the journey is only just beginning... Play it loud! You won't regret. And your neighbours will be friends for life.... Amaretto Iced Coffee Creamy enough to be a milkshake, but with the smooth almond flavour of Amaretto. "Spanish coffee" - Its sometimes referred to as "Mayan coffee" or "Flaming coffee". The ingredient list consists of the following: A shot of Rum A shot of Brandy Coffee A dash of cinnamon and nutmeg Sugar Heavy cream Tablespoon of Kaluha Lime wedge Whole orange for pouring Brandy Some preparation is necessary. An un-ripened orange is peeled in a corkscrew fashion. Glass mugs are used for the coffee, and prepared by being dipped first in lime wedges, and then in sugar, to coat the rims. An ounce of Rum is added to each mug. An ounce of Brandy is added to each glass next, but not without a show. The Brandy is added to one of two stainless-steel pouring containers. The Brandy is then lit on fire, the flaming alcohol is poured back and forth several times, and then distributed in equal amounts to each of the coffee mugs. The other half of the flaming Brandy is saved for later. A mixture of cinnamon and nutmeg are then shaken into each container, which causes sparks to fly from the still-flaming brandy. Coffee is then poured into each mug, which should extinguish the flames. A spoonful of heavy cream is then added to each container. The remaining Brandy goes on last, but not without another fiery show. The remaining flaming Brandy is now poured down and around the corkscrew of the orange that was peeled in the first stage. Cut-up lime wedges are then placed on each serving plate. The mugs are then placed on the serving plates with the lime wedges. A flaming tablespoon of Kahlua is set on top of each drink. Finally, the lime wedge is squeezed onto the flame just before serving, aggravating and then extinguishing the final flame just before consumption. Starbucks shuts 300 more stores... Thousands of baristas are to lose their jobs as Starbucks shuts stores to cope with dwindling sales of lattes, cappuccinos and frappuccinos as cash-strapped consumers lose their thirst for coffee. The Seattle-based chain tonight revealed a 70% slump in quarterly profits to $64.3m and announced that it intends to shed 6,700 employees this year. It is closing 300 stores, two thirds of which will be in the US, on top of 660 shutdowns last year. As the global economy turns sour, appetite for Starbucks' premium-priced drinks appears to be waning. Like-for-like sales fell by 10% at American stores and dropped by 3% elsewhere in the world - including a decline in the UK during the three months to December. Starbucks' chief executive, Howard Schultz, is joining in the belt-tightening by asking the company's board to cut his basic salary from $1.2m to $10,000. Schultz, 55, dropped off Forbes' list of the world's billionaires last year as the value of his stake in Starbucks plunged. In a statement, Schultz blamed the "weakening global consumer environment" for Starbucks' problems. He said the company was following a "well developed plan to strengthen our business through more efficient operations and by preserving the fundamental strengths and values of our brand". Analysts say Starbucks' market has been eroded by improved coffee offerings at fast-food stores such as McDonald's which typically charge much lower prices. Starbucks has 16,875 stores globally. It once boasted of an ambition to have 20,000 outlets in the US and a further 20,000 overseas, although expansion plans have since been radically scaled back. On the other hand, it is clear that coffee is not for everyone. In excessive amounts - meaning more than whatever an individual's body can tolerate - coffee can cause nervousness, jitters, and rapid heartbeat. Although studies investigating any relationship between higher cholesterol levels and coffee have yielded conflicting results, it is believed that in some people, drinking excessive amounts of coffee might cause elevated cholesterol levels (5). However, coffee drinkers who consume filtered coffee should not worry themselves with respect to cholesterol levels, because research indicates that it is the coffee oils which are mainly responsible for the rise in cholesterol in people who drink nonfiltered or boiled coffee. Most recent large studies show no significant adverse affects on most healthy people, although pregnant women, heart patients, and those at risk for osteoporosis may still be advised to limit or avoid coffee. Some studies have shown that coffee may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. After analyzing data on 120,000 people over an 18-year period, researchers at Harvard have concluded that drinking 1 to 3 cups of caffeinated coffee each day can reduce diabetes risk by several percentage points, compared with not drinking coffee at all. Even more significant, is the fact that in this study, having 6 cups or more per day slashed men's risk by 54% and women's risk by 30% over those who avoided coffee. This study is the latest of hundreds of studies which suggest that coffee may be something of a health food - especially in higher amounts. At least 6 studies indicate that people who drink coffee on a regular basis have up to 80% lower risks of developing Parkinson's disease, with 3 of those studies indicating that the more coffee they drink, the lower the risk. Other studies indicate that, compared to not drinking coffee, drinking at least 2 cups per day can lead to a 25% lower risk of colon cancer, an 80% drop in the risk of liver cirrhosis, and nearly 50% the risk of gallstones. The Senseo Sundays are back online! Your 15 minutes coffee break accompanied with good music. Coffea Arabica originated in Ethiopia where apparently a shepherd noticed that his goats became more frisky and animated after chewing on the berries of the plant. Kaffa, the region where this amazing plant was discovered, has cultivated the plants and beans since the thirteenth century. It wasn't until the sixteenth century however that the locals began roasting the pits of the coffee cherries before using them in their hot brewed beverages. These beans or pits were dried, roasted and ground to create the first coffee beverage. Arabia maintained a hold on coffee production for several centuries, however the Dutch managed to smuggle a few plants out of Arabia and a long a colourful history of espionage, smuggling and redistribution ensued. Now coffea arabica grows around the planet in a narrow belt around the equator and is one of the second highest commodities traded after oil. Light roast Some coffees, like our Costa Rica, have such a delicate fragrance that roasting them beyond a light- medium roast would ruin them. Medium roast Incredibly complex, full flavour, optimal body, balanced acidity. This is where we get the most and the best out of our beans. Dark roast Our Dark French roast is roasted slowly to caramelize the sugars in the beans. This results in a sweeter finish than most fast roasted dark beans available elsewhere. The intensity of the French roast lies in its bittersweet peculiar taste. So, have a break.....
