Episode 048: Plump up your pulse for the passion play! In this episode, we buff and fluff the Leo archetype, answer a birth chart Q about keeping the faith during all stages of the creative process, find frisky fun within the Tower's fiery force, and more. Our August convo covers connecting with constancy, uncovering eternal hope, feeling our heat without having to be felt, beholding beauty, staying in touch with trust, and showing up on the side of life with jazz hands up. Inside Your Cosmic Snack Pack: Leo Check In: We discuss how this little lovecat is showing up in our astrology practices right now, with an exploration of full body and soul presence, mutual adoration, handling feelings of futility, the spontaneous emergence of fire and the imperative to just keep on existing, and tapping inexhaustible fonts of joy. Burning Birth Chart Q: We're making our slumber party super special this season, with a personal reading exchange between Bess and Sandy. In our birth chart segment, Sandy dives into Bess's astro landscape and answers her query about her creative process, maturing her artistry, and handling the “high highs” and “low lows” in the cycle of making. We touch on remaining in process with the 6th house, keeping connected to Martial power, finding acceptance in the emo processing of Chiron transits, stepping up into competence with the 10th house, and cultivating a hopeful mindset with Jupiter. Tarot Touchstone: Bess flips some cards for Sandy, who's curious about establishing habits that really last. We chat about Mars vs Saturn as reflected through the Tower card, and how to come alive to all the forces that want to ally with us without having to bear sole responsibility for “making” monumental change happen; and finding divinity in the sweet detail with the 10 of Pentacles, Page of Cups, and Ace of Cups. **We're taking a little paws from the podcast! This episode is in celebration of Earth Day! Earth Day is an annual, global event on April 22 that has been going strong for 53 years after it was first created in 1970 to draw attention to environmental protection. To discuss Earth Day and better understand how we can all do our part to protect Arizona's natural resources and beautiful outdoor spaces, we've invited four state park rangers from across Arizona to join us on the show: Ranger Ethan from Oracle State Park, Rangers Kyle and Jess from Kartchner Caverns State Park, and Ranger Sara from Lost Dutchman State Park.We mention some resources on the show, so be sure to check out our fire safety and restrictions online resource, as mentioned by Ranger Sara; the International Dark Sky Association website and our episode with IDA ambassador Mike Weasner, as referenced by Ranger Ethan; and cave tour reservations as recommended by Rangers Jess and Kyle. After listening, we hope you're excited to take action with these simple steps towards becoming a more engaged environmentalist…and even join us for a fun Earth Day celebration at one of Arizona's state parks, listed below (click on each link for event dates, times, and other details).Dead Horse Ranch State Park: Make Native Seed Balls and the Verde Valley Birding and Nature FestivalKartchner Caverns State Park: Recyclables crafts, educational talks in the amphitheater, scavenger hunt, Star Party, and moreLost Dutchman State Park: Guided hikes, nature talks, geocaching, and litter cleanup kitsLyman Lake State Park: Arts, crafts, and kids' activitiesOracle State Park: Geology hike, snake talk, astronomy talk, music on the trail, food trucks, and Star Party

“As I stared at the cloud, I realized it wasn't really a cloud. Those were all stars. It was very humbling for a 12-year-old to be looking up at the Milky Way. It really set me back on my feet to realize how small I was on this planet, and how little our planet was compared to all those stars up in the sky.” - Jayme Hanzak, Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational SocietyWhen was the last time you looked up at the night sky? There are few experiences quite like stargazing that can help us realize our place in the vast and brilliant universe. Virginia is home to five officially designated dark sky parks where stargazing is exceptional, and the night sky is protected for generations to come. Jayme Hanzak, of the Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society, describes the important role dark skies play in human health and the health of our planet. Jayme also shares night sky viewing opportunities across Virginia, including the semiannual Star Party at Staunton River State Park that attracts stargazers from the entire east coast and beyond. This week I travel to Terrestrial Brewing company in Cleveland, Ohio and visit with Ralph Sgro who is the co-owner and head brew master. Ralph gives us a background how he got started in the brewing industry which includes being one of the original team members of Platform Brewing Company. He talks about formulating the idea of Terrestrial with his business partner Ryan Bennett which included crushing a lot of great craft beer in the Cleveland market. As we talked we also tasted some fantastic beers including a corn lager called Swill, a farmhouse Saison called Katie missed the plane!, a wet hopped IPA called Wetlands, and an American IPA called Star Party V4 which has an ingredient called phantasm thiol powder. This powder creates an extra boost of Sauvignon Blanc grape, citrus, guava, and passion fruit in the beer, and it absolutely shined through in Star Party.
