On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Christopher Carter and Ray Fittipaldo react to the NFL Week 9 victory against the Indianapolis Colts. Can T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Jalen Ramsey and coach Mike Tomlin's defense repeat their dominance of Daniel Jones, Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Warren at the potent Colts offense? Or will they backslide like they have at times earlier this season? Why was stopping the run with names like Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson they key to getting pressure on Jones and forcing him into turnovers generated by the likes of Jack Sawyer and Joey Porter Jr.? And what impact did new acquisition Kyle Dugger have on the game? Our duo tackles those questions, then ponders how Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren, Pat Freiermuth, Cavlin Austin III, Darnell Washington and OC Arthur Smith's offense can improve after they scored enough points to win but miss capitalizing on some opportunities. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo reacts to the team's NFL Week 9 victory against the Indianapolis Colts at Acrisure Stadium. Why do linebackers T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Payton Wilson deserve the most credit for the defense's dominant day, which included six forced turnovers against Daniel Jones, Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Warren and a Colts offense that entered the game producing at a historic pace? Was the offense a concern in gaining less than 300 yards? Or did Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren, Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth prove how dangerous they can be if other teams make mistakes? Did Kyle Dugger show how valuable he can be to this defense in his Steelers debut at safety? And what moves might GM Omar Khan have up his sleeve before the NFL trade deadline? Could he add a No. 2 receiver? Or did Sunday prove that there's not much room for another big name beyond Metcalf in this tight end-heavy offense? Our duo tackles those questions and more. October 31, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 44 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they prepare to play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night. We discuss the Steelers' injury situation heading into Friday and other miscellaneous items related to the team that have happened since Wednesday. On Thursday, we once again heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin, so Alex and I recap the main talking points to come out of those media sessions. We discuss Austin on talking about how he mostly does the play calling on defense and how HC Mike Tomlin has the liberty to call some plays as well. We go over several key stats related to the Steelers defense as the team enters Week 9. We also talk about the Steelers moving two players to the Reserve/Injured list on Friday and if the offense will stay committed to using a sixth offensive lineman on Sunday should G Isaac Seumalo miss the Week 9 contest with his pectoral injury. We welcome the Indianapolis Star's Joel A. Erickson to the show on Friday, and he helps us get started with a preview of the Steelers-Colts game. Erickson has covered the Colts for many seasons, and nobody knows that team better than he does. We get his thoughts on several things related to the Sunday game in Pittsburgh against the Colts. Joel fills us in on the play so far of the 2025 Colts based on what his preseason predictions for the team were. We also discuss the amazing seasons that Colts QB Daniel Jones and RB Jonathan Taylor are both having to date. Joel talks about the Colts' offense and defense quite a bit, and we get his score prediction for the Sunday game at the end of the interview. If not already doing so, make sure to follow Joel on X/Twitter at @JoelAErickson and make sure to read his work here: https://www.indystar.com/staff/2647522001/joel-a-erickson/ After finishing with Erickson, Alex and I provide our own preview of the Steelers-Colts game. We break down what we are looking for out of each team on both sides of the football Sunday afternoon. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for all of the Week 9 NFL games against the spreads using the lines provided by show sponsor MyBookie.ag. We also provide our own score predictions for the Steelers-Colts game. This 122-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted above and we end this episode by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Mackenzie Rivers and Dan Rivera talk NFL Week 9 Survivor Contests NFL Week 9 Survivor Contest Strategy — Mackenzie Rivers & Dan Rivera | RJ Bell's Dream Preview (0:13) Host Mackenzie Rivers opens celebrating another week survived and welcomes Dan Rivera as they hit the halfway point of the Dan and Mack Can Survive series, discussing remaining teams, equity, and the narrowing path ahead. (1:00) Dan lists viable survivor options—Cowboys, Seahawks, Broncos, Chargers, Rams, Commanders, and Eagles—and explains why Thanksgiving scheduling complicates planning. (2:49) Mack recaps Week 8 carnage with Bengals and Falcons upsets before pivoting to Week 9 double-digit favorites like Packers (-13 vs Panthers) and Rams (-14 vs Saints). (3:58) Dan details his mapping process: identifying “must-use” teams such as the Bears and keeping injured squads like the Chargers on ice until healthy. (6:37) They clarify contest structure—19 weeks, 19 picks with a special Thanksgiving slot. (8:00) Mack highlights Rams as top option vs Saints with rookie QB Tyler Shough replacing Spencer Rattler; cites PFF-EPA QBR composite ranking Dak Prescott #1 and Sam Darnold #2 to underscore metrics in QB evaluation. (12:23) Dan checks the Rams' remaining schedule—Panthers (11/30) and Cardinals (12/7)—noting why this may be their optimal week to use them, while Mack calls the Saints “perfect tankers.” (17:10) They confirm Rams as official Week 9 pick and review Green Bay vs Carolina, agreeing the Packers are safe if available. (19:37) Dan dives deep on Josh Jacobs' injury, Green Bay's kicker issues, and Carolina's O-line woes before Mack ranks Bryce Young around the 20th best QB. (24:57) Chargers (-9.5 at Titans) analysis: Dan argues L.A. “bullies bad teams,” Mack notes road risk and prefers home favorites. (29:07) They dissect Vikings-Lions: J.J. McCarthy returns, Carson Wentz out, Dan grades McCarthy as two-year project; Mack tracks line movement (7.5 → 9). (34:36) Other angles: Colts vs Steelers (Colts due for regression) and Seahawks vs Commanders (off bye, defense rolling, Terry McLaurin out). (38:22) Dan floats the “gross” alternative — Bears over Bengals if you lack elite teams — while Mack calculates the risk-reward gap (85% Rams vs 60% Bears). (41:13) They finalize the Week 9 Survivor Pick: ✅ Los Angeles Rams to beat New Orleans. (44:10) Dan pre-scouts Week 10 lookahead lines — Broncos (-9.5 vs Raiders), Bills (-8 at Miami), Colts (-7 in Germany), Seahawks (-6 vs Cardinals) — and both agree on early lean: Denver Broncos Week 10. (47:00) They close with contest equity math, future weeks planning, and thank listeners for staying alive in Survivor. Strategy, data, and banter from two contest sharps who actually play it — subscribe and survive with Dan & Mack each week! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On his weekly Chipped Ham & Football podcast, presented by FanDuel, Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko welcomes Indianapolis-area radio host Kent Sterling to preview the NFL Week 9 matchup with the Colts at Acrisure Stadium. They ponder reasons why Jonathan Taylor, Daniel Jones, Michael Pittman and the Colts offense has been so effective during the team's 7-1 start; possible ways Cam Heyward, T.J. Watt, Jalen Ramsey, Derrick Harmon, Patrick Queen and coach Mike Tomlin's defense may be able to slow that group down; and options QB Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren, Pat Freiermuth and OC Arthur Smith's offense will have to put up points against the Colts defense. On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette insider Ray Fittipaldo to react to the Steelers' NFL Week 4 loss against the Indianapolis Colts. What happened to DC Teryl Austin's defense in yielding by far its most points in a game this season? How could the game have ended differently if Joey Porter seizes two opportunities to make interceptions, or Patrick Queen recovers a fumble by Colts QB Anthony Richardson in the first quarter? And why weren't T.J. Watt and the pass rushers able to generate more pressure on immobile backup QB Joe Flacco? Our duo tackles those questions, then turns attention to the offense. Were Justin Fields' fumbles at QB forgivable as he looks to hold off Russell Wilson for the starting job? Are mistakes to be expected from the offensive line amid a rash of injuries to guys like Isaac Seumalo and James Daniels, which have pressed young players including Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick, Spencer Anderson and Broderick Jones into service? And can OC Arthur Smith get receivers Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III more involved in the offense? Or is another solid veteran needed for that group?
On his daily First 10 podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey reacts to the Steelers' NFL Week 4 loss against the Indianapolis Colts. What were some of the poor decisions coach Mike Tomlin made that impacted the game? And did Tomlin's post-game explanations for them make sense? Would the outcome have been different if not for key fumbles by Justin Fields and George Pickens, as well as a dropped interception by Joey Porter Jr.? And what should Fields' future be as starting quarterback after he played fairly well otherwise? Jason tackles all of those questions, plus gives his thoughts on the end of the Pirates' season, as well as the Isiah Kiner-Falefa bonus situation that has gotten some attention following a similar drama with former teammate Rowdy Tellez.
Post-Gazette insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo react to the Steelers' NFL Week 4 loss against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Does Colts coach Shane Steichen have Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's number after gashing his defense in each of the last two meetings? Why did OC Arthur Smith's offense get off to such a slow start? What should we make of Justin Fields' day at QB, which was good statistically but included multiple costly fumbles? Ditto George Pickens, who had a seismic fumble down near the goal line? What impact did James Daniels' injury have on an offensive line already missing Isaac Seumalo and Troy Fautanu? And why did Najee Harris have such a bad day running the ball while Cordarrelle Patterson was finding holes? Our duo tackles those questions and more.
September 27, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 31 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare for their Week 4 Sunday road game against the Indianapolis Colts. We go over the Steelers' Thursday injury report and how important Friday will be for RB Jaylen Warren, who is currently dealing with a knee injury. We go over possible elevations from the team's practice squad on Saturday and what the early Sunday inactive list is looking like heading into Friday. Might rookie WR Roman Wilson not make his NFL debut on Sunday? We discuss that topic. On Thursday, we once again heard from two of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin. As usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points top come out of those media sessions. We go over why Sunday is a big game for OLB Nick Herbig and if he might see his special teams snaps reduced a little against the Colts with him needing to play a larger number of snaps on defense with OLB Alex Highsmith sidelined with his groin injury. Can the Steelers get their running game going earlier on Sunday against the Colts? What about QB Justin Fields being used more on the ground as well? We address those two key questions ahead of Sunday's game against the Colts. Alex and I welcome Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star back to the show on Friday, and he helps us get started with a preview of the Steelers' road game against the Colts. Atkins has covered the Colts for quite some time and that means he has a great pulse on the team. We go over the play of Colts rookie QB Anthony Richardson so far this season with Nate as part of this interview. At the end of our talk with Atkins, he gives us his score prediction for the game between the Steelers and the Colts. If not already doing so, make sure to follow Nate on X/Twitter at @nateatkins_ and make sure to read his work online here: https://www.indystar.com/staff/2684227001/nate-atkins/ After finishing with Atkins, Alex and I provide our own preview of the Steelers-Colts game. Can the Steelers win the Super Bowl if Russ played to last year's ability? If not, then it should be Fields this year, even if he has some bad games. Fields seemingly has moved past the version who had atrocious games. The Steelers WRs are not getting separation, and Fields is still making it work. Don't dismiss the Steelers coaching staff's impact. Is there a particular team Fields needs to beat to solidify his spot? The Steelers defense might crush Dak. The Steelers are clearly better through three games offensively compared to last year. The team could've had a few more TDs though based on their play. The Steelers are dominating time of possession, and the Colts are not. Should the Steelers pay Fields right now? Maybe in another 6 weeks? Other teams expressed interest in him via trade in the offseason. Could he get a contract similar to Baker Mayfield's? Could Miami throw a wrench into the Justin Fields equation? The A's played their final game in Oakland. This makes Crowley sad. The Rams or Chargers in LA doesn't make sense.
Vibe check! Stop Taylor and the Steelers should win. Richardson is so talented though. Will the Steelers/Colts be unwatchable because of the refs? A caller chimes in frustrated still with the offense. JPJ has been good, Broderick Jones had a bounce back game and it needs to continue. The Colts aren't loaded with stars. Freiermuth needs to have a breakout game. The Colts struggle to defend TEs. Steelers play multiple TEs a lot. PFF has a new stat...chip percentage. TJ Watt gets chipped the most. Dorin mentions Elandon Roberts comments about PFF ever being mentioned to him by coaches.
Chris Carter looks sleepy this morning. He gives his thoughts on Steelers/Colts. Taking away Jonathan Taylor is the big key, ways to defend Richardson, Steelers RB usage, the physical nature of the offense, Calvin Austin.

On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo to react to coach Mike Tomlin's handling of his QB situation ahead of an NFL Week 4 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Is he savvy to keep Russell Wilson in the QB1 spot as he continues his recovery from a calf injury? Or has Justin Fields earned more respect amid the team's 3-0 start? Later, our duo analyzes the offensive line and defense. Has Broderick Jones turned the corner after dominating the Los Angeles Chargers' Joey Bosa this past week? What is Mason McCormick's role after seeing his first action Sunday? What's the injury outlook for Isaac Seumalo? How much have Dan Moore Jr. and James Daniels impressed in the early going? When will the defense start generating turnovers? And how will injuries to Alex Highsmith and Cory Trice Jr. affect that unit?
ALL ACCESS w/ Aditi – Aditi talked about voice exercises she does before going on air. Aditi will be in Indy for Steelers-Colts this weekend, so the guys asked her about what she noticed from the Steelers game in Denver a few weeks ago. She said Russell Wilson seemed to be involved in in-game QB stuff, but wasn't really getting in the ear of Justin Fields. She talked about how much Fields wants the job and what it could take for him to get there. Are we going to see the Steelers open it up a little bit more for Fields as the weeks go by?
Nick previews three of the biggest games of Week 4 in the NFL as Jeff Hathhorn, Sal Capaccio and Matthew Coller join the show.
On his weekly Chipped Ham and Football podcast, Post-Gazette insider Brian Batko welcomes comedian, impressionist and big Steelers fan Joey Mulinaro to look ahead to the team's NFL Week 4 matchup with the Colts. What is the mood around the team out in Indianapolis, where Joey resides? What's going on with Anthony Richardson, the former first-round draft pick who's struggled at QB so far? Will be be the next to have a rough day against T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward and the Steelers defense? Later, Brian gets Joey's thoughts on the quarterback competition between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson; how the excitement around Fields differs from the hype that accompanied Kenny Pickett; and his favorite experiences with Steelers players over the years.
