My long time friend, podcasting colleague, disabled military vet, and avid hiker, Keith McNally, is a man finding his path to transformation. His goal? Thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail beginning on March 29, 2026, crossing 14 states on the East Coast and finishing 2,197 miles 5 months later. Some of the challenges include constant rough terrain with difficult footing, a series of steep grades, climbs and descents, as well as river crossings balanced on logs, extreme weather, insects, and rock scrambles using hands for climbing. The elevation profile of the AT over its length is akin to summiting Mount Everest from sea level and back approximately 16 times. So yes, physical fitness is a must to take on the AT; but it is mental fortitude and the ability to adapt to unforseen challenges that is key to finishing the hike.Keith's journey will be a test of perseverance, a tribute to the beauty of the natural world, and an opportunity for personal growth. Even more importantly, Keith is setting the groundwork for a non-profit foundation to help military veterans find their own Trails to Transformation. This first hike is just the beginning.  But here's something else. Keith is not walking alone. In one of the most emotional and powerful episodes of Domestic Dad: Cleaning Up the Mess, host Nick Barnett sits down with Jason Comer, a husband, father of five, and living testimony of how God's grace can turn devastation into destiny.   Jason's life is a raw reflection of brokenness, rebellion, incarceration, relapse, forgiveness, and divine restoration. This episode traces his complete journey—from a troubled childhood and early substance use, to meth addiction, prison, family separation, and the miraculous road back to sobriety, faith, and fatherhood.   Through tears, laughter, and hard truths, Jason opens up about what it means to be a man redeemed. He shares how Hope City Church, mentorship, and a community of believers gave him the spiritual and emotional tools he never had growing up. His story reveals the brutal reality of addiction—but more importantly, the beauty of God's redemption story when we finally stop running.   This is more than a story about getting sober. It's a story about becoming whole, about how God can take the pieces of a shattered life and build something new—something strong enough to lead a family, raise kids with love, and inspire others to believe that no matter how dark the pit, there is always a way out.   If you're a parent fighting your own battles, a man seeking purpose, or someone walking through the ashes of addiction or shame—this episode will meet you right where you are.   ⸻

This week, after hearing from a client who wishes she would have bought more insurance a decade ago, Diane shares decisions that others have made in the past and now regret it. These people, if they had thought through their decisions before making them, could have ended up with much better outcomes.   When planning to provide for ourselves and protect our families, we need to take action.  And we need to not skip the small things.  The small things in these stories would have made all the difference. We all have a plan for our own future long term care needs.  Some will just let things happen and will end up being "put" somewhere.  Those who proactively seek solutions end up with much better choices later on. You can view both current and projected costs of home care, assisted living, and nursing home care where you live or plan to live I recommend you use 5% inflation on care as that's what we've seen for three decades. Then schedule a phone or zoom meeting to start designing your plan Then you'll be Prepared for Tomorrow!!!

This week on Pour Minds, Lex P and Drea Nicole are joined by The Chi’s very own Cortez Smith, better known as Nuck, for a wild ride of storytelling, truth-telling, and bone-hitting honesty (literally). From his real-life experiences growing up in Chicago to landing his breakout role, Cortez opens up about how he dodged the streets, dealt with rejection from Spike Lee, and why one “yes” changed his life forever. They also get into the rise of hobosexuals—fine men with nowhere to live—unpacking whether looks really get you far when you’re broke. The trio shares Poor Decisions of the Week, debates tattoo regrets (and removals), and dives deep into dating with no motion, the curse of pretty privilege, and why vibes matter more than abs. Plus: the girls sip on the “Pour & Peace Paloma,” this week’s Taylor Port-sponsored Drink of the Week, and Cortez keeps it real about paying his tab when he had no home, no job—but plenty stroke!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

To err is human, which makes adolescence a particularly intense expression of the human condition. Yes, we all make mistakes, but some are more glaring and likely to impact acceptance than others. But which ones? Amy and Mike invited student advocates Susan Stone and Kristina Supler to clarify how past poor decisions can affect college admissions. What are five things you will learn in this episode? What kinds of past poor decisions might hurt admissions chances? Can criminal charges prevent someone from getting into college?  How can social misconduct impact college acceptance?  What steps can applicants take to address past disciplinary actions or lapses in judgment?  Should a student speak to past poor decisions in the college essay? MEET OUR GUESTS Susan Stone is co-chair of KJK's Student & Athlete Defense/Title IX Practice Group, dedicated to supporting students in crisis and addressing their legal needs. Recognizing the importance of legal advocacy for students, professors, and individuals with disabilities, she handles a wide range of matters, including special education issues, student disciplinary cases, and Title IX investigations. With extensive experience in due process complaints, 504 Plans, and Individualized Education Programs, Susan is well-equipped to navigate complex educational and legal challenges. She also represents students in cases involving hazing, bullying, and social media issues. Kristina Supler is co-chair of KJK's Student & Athlete Defense/Title IX Practice Group. She has extensive experience handling complex cases involving allegations of sexual assault and has served on national defense teams representing students and executives facing prosecution both in the United States and internationally. Additionally, Kristina is extremely adept at working with families and defending juveniles, particularly those with physical or mental disabilities, who are facing legal challenges. Kristina has achieved great success protecting students and professors in campus Title IX proceedings, which has garnered her a national reputation. What were some of the poor decisions coach Mike Tomlin made that impacted the game? And did Tomlin's post-game explanations for them make sense? Would the outcome have been different if not for key fumbles by Justin Fields and George Pickens, as well as a dropped interception by Joey Porter Jr.? And what should Fields' future be as starting quarterback after he played fairly well otherwise? Jason tackles all of those questions, plus gives his thoughts on the end of the Pirates' season, as well as the Isiah Kiner-Falefa bonus situation that has gotten some attention following a similar drama with former teammate Rowdy Tellez.

Why do high performers seem to struggle with their personal relationships? Our guest today is Jason VanRuler, a licensed therapist and author of "Get Past Your Past." Jason provides eye-opening insights into why high performers often struggle with personal relationships. He explains that while high performers excel in business by applying certain success strategies, these same strategies can fail in personal relationships. Jason emphasizes the importance of vulnerability, identifying safe people, isolation vs. self-isolation, and the need for intentional and consistent relationships (and grieving the ones that no longer fit).We discuss the concept of "max awareness" in therapy, where people are more aware of their issues but often fail to take actionable steps to improve their relationships.Notable Timestamps:[00:02:42] Relationships for high performers.[00:06:40] The impact of self-isolation.[00:09:16] Seeking healing versus seeking comfort.[00:11:55] Three Levels of vulnerability.[00:15:02] Deep conversations at parties.[00:19:15] Evolving friendships in midlife.[00:28:34] Vulnerability in relationships.[00:29:17] Love shouldn't be a secret.[00:34:23] Redefining values for happiness.Jason VanRuler Links:InstagramGet Past Your Past BookWebsiteResources Mentioned:Schedule a free 1:1 Brainstorming CallInterested in starting a podcast? Welcome back, welcome back, welcome all the way the hell back!!! Thank you for pulling up on us! We greatly appreciate your presence, and want to thank you for letting us borrow a little bit of your time, letting us into a little bit of your space, and just letting us come in and do what we do, and that's just talk! Hopefully we share something, drop a dyme or two that you can pick up, save in your piggy bank of life, and cash it in when the time is right, and it makes sense in your situation! We do have a Question of the Week, and it's fairly light hearted. What are 3 of your top favorite movies? What genre of movies can make you just sit down and enjoy it, wholeheartedly? Are you more of a comedy, rom-com, sci-fi, thrillers, straight horror? Let us know, what's your favorite movies, genre and what made you lean in that direction? Let's talk about it! Today's episode, today's talk is brought to you by something we've all probably experienced, had to live through, had to redeem ourselves from in some way and that's Poor Decisions. It's a part of life, absolutely! But what did you do after to get yourself back to a better place, how did you redeem yourself? We get into what steps we think should happen, better planning, owning the bad decisions, we talk about a couple of the “not so good” decisions we made, and how we managed them following those times in life. This can be tough, especially when we're not ready to have those accountability talks within yourself or with others. We'd never just ask you to tell us about your bad decisions, but what was the bounce back like? What do you think was your biggest takeaway from that time in your life? As always, we appreciate you giving us a little of your time, letting us borrow a little of your space, to let us just come in and do what we do, and that's just talk! Praying these words connect and help in some way! Continue to tell friends to tell friends to come be our friends, so we can all be friends! Plane Crash Caused by Pilot's Poor Decisions and Lack of Aircraft Understanding – Episode 206

The pilot of a Beech Bonanza F33A made an off-field landing when the engine lost power shortly after takeoff. John Goglia, Greg Feith and Todd Curtis dig into the information gathered by the NTSB and find this crash was caused by poor decisions made by the pilot.Greg, Todd, and John analyze the information from the Public Docket of the crash investigation. They find that the pilot's lack of understanding about the aircraft and its systems contributed a series of decisions that led to the plane crash. The pilot took off with the fuel pump on to deal with an overheating problem in two of the six cylinders of the engine. He did this despite a placard advising that the aux pump should not be on during takeoff. In the Continental IO-520 engine in this plane, as in many piston engines, airflow cools the cylinders. Common and overlooked, baffles are critical for proper engine cooling. John details his experiences seeing damaged, cracked and improperly installed baffles on engines. Greg contrasts the good decision the pilot made top not attempt a return the airport with the bad decisions he regularly encounters when pilots make the hazardous and often fatal decision to make an impossible turn back to the runway.Related documents are available at the Flight Safety Detectives website.  Don't miss what's to come from the Flight Safety Detectives - subscribe to the Flight Safety Detectives YouTube channel, listen at your favorite podcast service and visit the Flight Safety Detectives website.
