Molly talks with Matthew Phillion about his book, "The Indestructibles". About "The Indestructibles" A solar powered girl. A ballerina vigilante. A boy with an alien sharing his brain. A girl with a black hole for her heart. And a werewolf with confidence issues. This is the next generation of heroes Doc Silence has gathered together, a random collection of amazing kids he hopes to train to make the world a better place. But Silence isn't the only one collecting super-powered teenagers. In the shadows, a dark organization—long thought destroyed—has been building a better monster, combining sentient hurricanes with car crash survivors, crafting designer cyborgs, girls made of fire and boys made of pure rage. What is this mysterious organization's goal? And what does it have to do with Doc's past, and his team's future? Will Doc Silence have enough time to teach them to be heroes before they are called upon to save the world—and will his team be ready to accept the mantle as their generation's brightest stars? The Indestructibles introduces Jane, Kate, Billy, Titus, and Emily—Solar, Dancer, Straylight, Fury, and Entropy—to the world as they learn how to use their bizarre powers. Along the way, they also discover something about themselves and whether they have what it takes to save the world. Meanwhile, the mercenary Agent Black and the mysterious Rose find themselves pawns of a villainous organization who plan on changing the world, starting with the creation of a living, breathing, sentient storm system they're able to bend to their will. The Indestructibles, coming soon to a neighborhood near you. About Matthew Phillion Matthew Phillion is a writer, actor, and film director based in Salem, Massachusetts and the author of the Indestructibles Young Adult superhero adventure series, its spinoff, Echo and the Sea, and the newly launched Dungeon Crawlers series. He calls himself a "recovering newspaper journalist" and occasional filmmaker and actor. Matt has appeared in feature films including the sci-fi romance Harvest Moon and the independent horror flick Livestock. He wrote and directed the 2013 romantic comedy Certainly Never, which was nominated at the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival for five awards including best screenplay and best New England film. (Matt proudly notes that he was one of the actors not nominated for their roles, which he says is a sign he should stick to what he's good at.) An active freelance writer, Phillion writes about healthcare, pop culture, and more. He enjoys adventuring with his sidekick, Watson the terrier mutt, and is also the official manservant to his very demanding cat Harley. ________________________________________________________________________ One easy way to support this show is to rate and review Read Between the Lines wherever you listen to our podcast. STRAYLIGHT2. Devil Star3. The EndThe Sausage Factory 435 was edited by Chris O'Regan The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators. Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.
Rob Kovacs is a classical trained pianist, singer/songwriter, and composer. He recently released the soundtrack for the game Straylight. Rob performs classic video game soundtracks on piano as 88-Bit, and he also writes and records indie rock music under his own name. I met Rob at the Long Island Retro Gaming Expo last summer where he performed as 88-Bit, playing piano renditions of classic video game soundtracks. On this episode, we had a great conversation about his work as 88-bit, his indie rock music, and his new soundtrack for the game Straylight. Rob spoke about composing for video games and how the limitations of the early sound chips resulted in inventive and creative approaches to composition. We've had composer Rob Kovacs on Level in the past to talk about his alter ego, 88bit. This time, he's here to discuss his Prophet 5 modern 80s soundtrack for the VR game Straylight, and I love every minute of it. The music is fantastic, and Rob sits at his piano during our chat to demonstrate some of the musical choices he made. It was so much fun! I caught up with Samourai to discus some of the recent wallet updates. We spoke about stealth mode coming back, allowing users to hide the app within another non bitcoin related application like a calculator or VPN and how this can help protect users from potential theft. Samourai went into detail about plans to further decentralise whirlpool and how this will help protect the team as well as increasing the anonymity set of users. We touched on Lincoinpool adding paynym payouts for miners and why we should see more bip47 adoption in the mining scene. With all that has gone on with the recent arrest of the tornado cash developer I am very happy to see these moves being made. It seems we might soon have more clients coming online to join sparrow wallet and samourai wallet, with recent developments from the Straylight team announcing their new Whirlpool Client written in Rust and compatible with BDK based wallets. As always it was a pleasure speaking with Samourai and its great to have a project that refuses to comply and continues to make bitcoin privacy more accessible to users. twitter - @Samouraiwallet twitter - @MaxBitbuybit twitter - @bitbuybitpod Website - https://ungovernablemisfits.com As always please feel free to reach out and ask me any questions.

Dorothy Elizabeth is a student at heart with a scientific background - she graduated from The University of Michigan with a Chemical Engineering degree and kick-started her career as a mixologist in Ann Arbor. After working at multiple craft cocktail bars in Ann Arbor and Detroit, she made the move to New York City in 2018 where she helped open and oversee pop-ups and programs at Mace, Henry at the Life Hotel, Straylight, L’Avenue at Saks Fifth Avenue and Lyaness. Dorothy chats with host Danielle Berg about how she incorporates scientific practices behind the bar, what it’s like being a female in an industry that’s predominantly white male dominated, moving to New York and finding her cocktail community here and what the future holds for bars in New York City and across the country. How will bars restructure their business plans? Are to-go cocktails here to stay for the indefinite future? How will bars and restaurants revise their sanitation methods, and will they require temperature checks, masks and gloves for the foreseeable future?

For every classic NES video game that we all remember, like Castlevania, Zelda and Super Mario, there are literally hundreds that have fallen into obscurity. Pianist, composer and arranger Rob Kovacs is on a mission to bring these long-lost treasures to a new audience with his note-for-note piano transcriptions of themes from obscure games like T he Adventures of Lolo , Arkista's Ring and Marble Madness . As he told me, he's become a sort of musical archeologist, and it's been exciting to rediscover music from the very early days of Nintendo's history. Rob's not completely stuck in the past, though. He's currently working on the soundtrack for the VR space flight game Straylight. He says his music is built around his classic Prophet 5 analog synthesizer from the late 1970s with its iconic sounds. Videos of Rob's performances of classic NES themes are on YouTube, with even more available on his Patreon. And he has plans to release his Straylight soundtrack this summer. Episode tracklist
