De steun die hij vanuit Nederland ervaart is overweldigend, maar dat is niet dankzij de politici. 'Wat ik de politici in Europa verwijt is dat ze niet uitleggen aan de mensen hoe essentieel deze oorlog is'. 'Die kans is wel klein' In Oekraïne ziet Scholten een lichte kentering in het sentiment ontstaan nu het slechter gaat met Rusland. 'De Oekraïners zijn positief, al lopen ze wel op hun tandvlees.' Volgens Scholten is het naïef om te denken dat er nu onderhandelt moet worden met Rusland. 'Je moet Oekraïne alle wapens sturen die je hebt en wachten tot Rusland naar je toekomt om te praten.' Scholten, die in Hongarije woont, ziet in zijn eigen land Hongarije dat het sentiment daar ook enorm veranderd is met de komst van premier Magyar. De uitlatingen van hem over Oekraïne ziet Scholten als overwegend positief, helemaal dankzij de lening van negentig miljard die Oekraïne nu krijgt. Amerika voert de aanvallen verder op, ondanks een bestand met Iran. Hanneke van der Werf, buitenlandwoordvoerder voor D66 heeft er weinig fidusie in. 'Het is mij onduidelijk waar dit heen gaat.' Wel is het voor Van der Werf klip en klaar dat we feller op moeten treden tegen Israël, nu het land verder oprukt in Libanon in de strijd tegen Hezbollah. 'Er is helemaal geen militaire oplossing in Libanon. Dit zal gewoon een blijvend conflict blijven als het denk ik aan Netanyahu ligt. Dit conflict zal geen winnaars kennen.' De Europese Unie komt er niet uit om met verdere sancties tegen Israël te komen, ook zijn we nog erg afhankelijk van Israëlische wapens. Wat Van der Werf betreft blijft het kabinet zich inzetten om die afhankelijkheid te verkleinen. Ook moeten we wat haar betreft blijven pleiten voor het opschorten van het handelsdeel van het associatieakkoord tussen de EU en Israël. Nederland deelt volgens Berendsen de zorgen van de VS en Israël om de nucleaire capaciteiten van Iran en het bereik van hun raketten, maar blijft pleiten voor een diplomatieke oplossing. Wel heeft Nederland zich aangesloten bij een internationaal initiatief om de Straat van Hormuz te openen, en volgens Berendsen wordt een operatie gepland zodra de situatie dat toelaat. Lang was het verhaal van de kerk in Nederland er één van secularisatie, krimp en kerksluitingen. Maar iets lijkt te schuiven. Sommige min of meer traditionele protestantse gemeenten groeien weer – en het zijn opvallend vaak twintigers die binnenlopen. Dirk leidt de Nieuwe Kerk die uit haar voegen barst. Zijn voorganger begon dertig jaar geleden te bidden om volle balkons – terwijl er beneden vijftig mensen zaten. 'Wij staan op de schouders van een biddende generatie,' zegt Dirk. Peter zag zijn baptistengemeente in Amersfoort de afgelopen drie jaar met tweehonderd mensen groeien, nadat ze gingen kerken in een voormalige rooms-katholieke kerk. Dick en Daniël vragen hun gasten of dit échte groei is of vooral 'circulation of the saints'. Er verkassen zeker gelovigen van de ene naar de andere gemeente, erkent Peter. Maar dat doen ze niet lichtvaardig. Er komen ook mensen van buiten – nieuwsgierige twintigers zonder kerkelijke achtergrond die gewoon binnenlopen. Dirk: 'De drempel om naar een kerk te gaan is echt mega laag geworden.' Gen Z googelt, vindt een gemeente en gaat. Ze verlangen naar houvast, naar gemeenschap in een tijd van eenzaamheid, en – verrassend genoeg – naar rituelen Wat zeg je tegen de gemeente die krimpt, bidt, en het tij niet ziet keren? Oekraïne staat op het punt opnieuw wapens te gaan exporteren. Sinds het begin van de Russische invasie in 2022 lag de export van militair materieel stil, maar president Zelensky wil dat nu veranderen. Corruptie blijft een probleem, erkent Hahn: 'Daarom investeert Nederland direct in Oekraïense bedrijven, zonder tussenpersonen, en laten we auditors controleren of alles op orde is.' Jon Gruden says he'd "die to coach in the SEC." We must assume he's being hyperbolic, but the former NFL coach sounds serious about wanting to coach again – and wanting to coach in college. He's not the only former coach with an eye toward new opportunities. Former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher says he's up for a return to the sideline, too. This projects as an active year for the hot seat, so would either Gruden or Fisher be a worthwhile consideration for an SEC athletic director? That debate takes center stage on today's episode, featuring hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams. Their verdict: Neither Gruden nor Fisher would seem particularly appealing within the SEC, although Toppmeyer offers one SEC school that might make some sense, depending on its level of desperation. Of the two possibilities, the hosts agree Gruden offers more intrigue than Fisher, who received everything a coach could want with the Aggies and couldn't make it work. Gruden would be the ultimate wild card. Later in the episode, the hosts weigh in on Alabama naming Ty Simpson its starting quarterback and what that means for Kalen DeBoer's second season. Presentator Crystalina Agyeman-Prempeh sprak onder meer met een 16-jarige jongen die vrijuit vertelt over zijn criminele activiteiten. Zelf werd hij op zijn dertiende benaderd en inmiddels zet hij andere jongens aan het werk. 'Die klusjes laat ik doen door kneuzen,' zegt hij. 'Want zelf doen, dat is teveel risico. En ja, ik weet wel dat ik deze jongens meetrek in het criminele leven, maar goed, dat is natuurlijk hun eigen keuze.' De Europese politiedienst Europol waarschuwt voor de kwetsbaarheid van jongeren. Zij zouden steeds vaker "het vuile werk" voor criminele organisaties opknappen. Abdellaziz Akhath is jongerenwerker, werkte 10 jaar in een jeugdgevangenis, en staat in nauw contact met jongens die in het criminele circuit terecht zijn gekomen of ertegenaan schurken.
