He is the executive director of Friends of the High Line, the former deputy comptroller for the City of New York, and the chief architect of New York's historic marriage equality bill. Kelly asks Alan where he's from. Alan talks about growing up on Long Island and realizing that he was gay. He talks about pretending to be Miss America while hearing his parents argue about him playing Soccer! Alan then talks a bit about his twin sister, and is surprised to learn that Kelly is a twin as well! Alan talks about his journey through college: how he wanted to be an opera singer, and then worked in medical unions, and later decided to go into community organizing and politics. Kelly and Alan talk about political activism, and Kelly describes the time he took a bus trip up to Washington, D.C. in 1993 to be a part of the march on Washington. He tells us about how their trip was almost canceled because of threats from the KKK. He describes the tension as they took the trip, and talks about how transformative of an experience it was. Alan then talks about the importance of joy in hard times. He talks about the pressures of raising a family as a gay couple, as well as some of the challenges that he and his kids face navigating the world as a queer family. Finally, Kelly asks Alan about the fight for marriage equality. Alan talks about the process that he and his colleagues went through in order to get it passed. How they had to pass smaller legislation surrounding it in order to set the precedent for marriage equality. He talks about how he became friends with his political enemies and how that was crucial in nullifying them and getting them on his side. He and Kelly talk about the importance of continuing to talk to people you may disagree with. Then Kelly asks Alan what his favorite neighborhoods are, where he likes to go to eat, and where his favorite place to go for views of the city is. Alan talks about where to go to see the best eye candy, makes a controversial restaurant take, and talks about his favorite section of the High Line. 1. Kathy Hochul (New York Governor) – Economic Hypocrisy Hochul previously encouraged conservatives and wealthy job creators to leave New York. After large numbers of high‑income residents relocated, she now publicly urges wealthy individuals to return. This is hypocrisy—rejecting wealth creators ideologically while depending on them financially to sustain social programs. Left‑wing governance is hostile to success yet reliant on taxing it. 2. James Talarico (Texas Democratic Senate Candidate) – Religious & Cultural Contradictions Democrats selected Talarico to appeal to Christians because of his seminary background. His theological statements (e.g., describing God as “non‑binary”) are radical reinterpretations of Christianity. Additional Points: Supports abortion access for transgender individuals. Expresses discomfort with traditional symbols like the American flag and the Christian cross. Advocates reducing meat consumption and runs a vegan campaign in barbecue‑centric Texas. 3. Joe Kent (Former Trump Administration Official) – Foreign Policy Reversal Kent resigned in protest of U.S. military action against Iran, blaming Israeli influence. His past statements strongly supported aggressive action against Iran and praised Trump’s Iran policy. He later suggests (without evidence) that Israel may be threatening President Trump. Media reports suggest he may have leaked classified information. 4. Cesar Chavez (Labor Icon) – Moral Hypocrisy and Historical Revision Chavez has long been revered by the left as a civil‑rights and labor hero. A New York Times exposé alleges Chavez sexually abused minors over many years. The Left has: Allegedly concealed or ignored these accusations because Chavez aligned with their politics. Continued honoring him with statues, street names, and official recognition. Ideology was prioritized over justice and child protection. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. In part one of Red Eye Radio with Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, it's one of those nights where all of the work is done for us. No show prep required as the left "says it all". The first to open their mouth is NY Gov. Kathy Hochul as she desperately begs wealthy New Yorkers to come back — as NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani pressures her to hike their taxes. Next is Democrat Senator Elisa Slotkin claiming President Trump stole the election. Lastly there's Jamie Raskin and Jim Jordan on former Presidents being "un-documented immigrants". Also Epic Fury's success in debilitating Iran's military power, who has the clout to end the war and assessing Iran's collateral damage. Today's Headlines: The Epstein files were legally due to drop on Friday — and instead, the DOJ punted. Rather than releasing everything as required, the department said it'll roll documents out gradually because it “ran out of time,” and posted about 13,000 heavily redacted files. Some documents then mysteriously vanished from the DOJ website, including a photo from Epstein's apartment that showed Donald Trump, prompting Democrats to demand a timeline and an explanation for what's now very likely an illegal partial release. DOJ leadership insists nothing — and no one — is being protected. Meanwhile, the New York Times filled in some gaps the DOJ didn't, publishing extensive reporting that describes Trump and Epstein as close friends, citing more than 30 former employees, victims, and witnesses. The report alleges Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell introduced Trump to at least six women who later accused him of grooming or abuse, including one who was a minor at the time. Trump has denied the allegations. In other news, authorities say the suspect in last weekend's Brown University shooting — now deceased — may have targeted MIT fusion researcher Nuno Loureiro, whom he reportedly knew from an academic program in Portugal. The motive remains unclear, but the case has raised eyebrows amid Trump Media's sudden merger with a nuclear fusion company and new reporting that Putin heavily influenced Trump's Ukraine envoy. Add in fresh revelations about Stephen Miller pushing for military strikes wherever he could find a target, murky inflation data thanks to shutdown gaps, Trump rescheduling marijuana (and nodding off while doing it), and Elise Stefanik abruptly dropping out of New York's governor race — and yes, it was another very normal news week. HOCHUL TO FIGHT FOR CONGESTION PRICING (if you live in New York state): +1 (518) 474-8390 or https://www.governor.ny.gov/content/governor-contact-form SAMPLE SCRIPT: I'm a New York state resident and I am reaching out to urge Gov. Hochul to continue supporting New York City's Congestion Pricing plan and fight against the federal government's insane attempts to shut it down. This policy has already decreased traffic congestion, reduced travel times for people of all income brackets traveling into the city, increased business-friendly foot traffic in the city, and raised much needed revenues to improve our public transportation system. We cannot allow the federal government to bully our state into reversing a popular and effective policy, and I ask that you continue doing everything in your power to make sure the policy remains in effect. Kathy Hochul talks about how she's navigating Trump 2.0 and the ways she's taking 'the gloves off' with the administration. And in headlines: Trump considers revoking deportation protections from nearly a quarter million Ukrainians, the president puts a pin in tariffs on a wide range of products from Mexico and Canada, and California Democratic Gov. We focus on City Hall, where Mayor Adams continues on the job but is not out of trouble yet. Adams recently cut a deal with the U.S. Justice Department to have his federal corruption charges dropped in return for assisting the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign here in New York City. The judge in the case, Dale Ho, so far has refused to dismiss the charges. NY Gov. Kathy Hochul has weighed whether she should use her authority to remove a mayor from office but so far refused to pull the trigger. And there's a mayoral primary in four months where the leading candidate to replace Adams — Andrew Cuomo — is not even in the race. To help make sense of all the latest with our embattled mayor, we speak with Peter Sterne, an editor at City & State, a news organization dedicated to covering local and state politics and policy here in New York.

How has advocacy for criminal justice reform changed since the BLM era, and to what extent did Democratic leadership fail the moment? Is there any optimism that liberals will recommit to the criminal justice promises they claimed to espouse during Trump's first term now that he's returning to the White House? Or does the decision of blue state liberals like NY Gov. Kathy Hochul to run to the right on these issues portend a further rightward drift over the next four years? And did the left bring this rightward shift on itself by not taking crime concerns seriously (à la Ana Kasparian's argument)? Or is something else at play?
