Getting people to change how they do things can be hard, even if everyone agrees that things need to change. Take energy transition, for example. The case for switching to greener, more renewable sources of energy is well-made. And well-understood. But whether it's in your own home or the business you work in and lead, the challenge is now how do we make that change happen? And when there's so many solutions and little consensus on which is the right way to go, how do we not let paralysis take hold and stop us from making progress? Because we do need to make progress. By 2050, we need to have evolved the way we live and work if we're to hit our net zero targets. The way we power our homes. The way we power our industry. The infrastructure that supports the supply of energy. It all needs to change. But what's the solution? Is it solar? Wind? Hydrogen? And who is responsible for making it happen? For this episode, we're joined by Executive Vice President of Energy and Mobility at Hitachi Ltd., Alistair Dormer, and Susan McDonald, Energy Transition Lead within Deloitte's Sustainability and Climate Strategy team. Tune in to find out: What our energy systems currently look like – and how they need to change The countries who are leading on the energy transition and why The economic case for investing in renewable energy What the future holds and the role we can all play Enjoyed this episode? John MacKenzie chats with LNP Senator Susan McDonald about the Albanese government's controversial agreement to follow the United States and sign up for methane reduction targets of 30% over 10 years. Bigger polluters, such as China, India, and Russia will not back the pledge, leaving Aussie farmer's scratching their heads at the government's decision. In a surprise statement, Minister for Agriculture, Murray Watt attempted to explain that reducing livestock and methane would actually lead to cheaper meat. Senator McDonald scolded the government's hasty decision.

Should a sausage be called a sausage if it's not made out of meat? Is a burger a burger without the beef? These are questions a Senate inquiry will investigate as it looks into the labelling of non-animal proteins across the meat and dairy industries. The inquiry has been announced by Queensland Nationals senator and former butcher Susan McDonald. Lobby group WAFarmers has welcomed the inquiry saying the makers of plant-based proteins are immoral in masquerading their products alongside naturally-grown livestock products. Media outlets in Argentina are reporting this afternoon, the nation's 30 day beef export ban is about to be lifted, but with restrictions. Australia's sheep flock is rebuilding faster than expected and is likely to hit 75.4 million head by 2023, that's up 18 per cent on the 2020 numbers.

In recognition of World Alzheimer's Month, which is every September, as well as World Alzheimer's Day, September 21st, I would like to highlight a special person, Dr. Susan McDonald, who helped me in my journey during college as a musician. Also, I would like to recognize the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (Curealz.org) organization which is researching to discover a cure for Alzheimer's. A great thing about this non-profit is they allow 100% of donations to go directly to research while the founders and board members cover all of the operating costs and expenses of the organization. If you could find it in your heart, and budget to make a charitable contribution to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (Curealz.org), that will help advance the study of this disease to ultimately find a cure! Any donation of any size is much appreciated. Please feel free to contact me or the fund! Link for more information: www.curealz.org/heroes/sembrando-semillas -Jeff
