Colleen Costigan is the co-founder and executive director of BEAM Kenya, an organization built on the belief that every child deserves the chance to heal, learn, and lead. While living a successful corporate life and doing everything "right," a one-month volunteer trip to Kenya redirected her future and became a lifelong commitment now serving thousands of children through education and mental health support. Today, Colleen shares how that one short trip became a lifelong calling, why education alone is not enough to break cycles of poverty, and how trauma-informed mental health care can change the trajectory of a child's life. She opens up about meeting a teenage girl named Faith, whose story reshaped Beam's mission, and how heartbreak, perseverance, and hope all coexist when you choose to serve others in hard places. My friends, if you've ever felt a tug on your heart you couldn't explain… this conversation is for you. You'll leave reminded that small, brave steps can lead to extraordinary impact, that your privilege can become a powerful gift, and that hope is never wasted when it's placed in the hands of love.

Does the idea of a whole summer one on one with your kid sound idyllic... or intimidating? If you've ever been the primary parent for a whole season, you've likely experienced both of those extremes. In this episode, we're joined by Joel Costigan, a longtime educator, soccer coach, and dad to a 7-year-old daughter named Ruby. After the chat, stick around for Marc's family vacation story, complete his boys' accidental new signature move: "Peen pinching."Episode 128 of Modern Dadhood opens with a brief catch-up between the guys about the back-to-school season, and they discuss their plans to see friend-of-the-show Pete Holmes. Hazel Costigan from Teagasc Moorepark joins Stuart Childs on this week's Dairy Edge to discuss heifer rearing and the targets associated with it. Hazel references a study done 10 years ago by Laurence Shalloo which put the cost of rearing a heifer at €1,545. A further study by Donagh Berry has shown that it takes 1.63 lactations to cover this cost and this may have increased since then. Hazel says that the only way to manage heifer performance is to weigh them relatively regularly and at a minimum at key times throughout their lifetime to identify stock that are not on target and react to bring them back in line the rest of the group. Hazel highlights the importance of doing this due to the impact in 1st, 2nd and 3rd lactation performance of lighter heifers in a study she did of Moorepark records from 2003 – 2017. Finally, Hazel suggests that farmers weigh both their calves and heifers and act now to address weight deficits sooner rather than later especially as we move towards housing when average daily gain will inevitably drop due to the lower quality of the diet offered relative to the grass diet currently being consumed. The calf weights excel mentioned is available at:https://www.teagasc.ie/media/website/animals/dairy/CalfWeightReadyReckoner.xls For more episodes from the Dairy Edge podcast go to the show page at:https://www.teagasc.ie/animals/dairy/the-dairy-edge-podcast/ The Dairy Edge is a co-production with LastCastMedia.com

Tara Costigan was murdered in 2015, one day after taking out a DVO on her ex-partner Marcus Rappel. The day he laid a finger on her was the day he murdered her. Before that the abuse had been verbal. Emotional. Tara did everything ‘right'. She followed advice and took steps in the system designed to protect her, even though she was nervous about how he might react. And then she died, in the most horrendous of ways, while cradling her one-week-old daughter. Her murder changed the fabric of Canberra and the conversation surrounding domestic violence. Aman Costigan runs a wellness business, is a partner at Shores Jardine, is a wife, #toddlermom, real estate investor, and master prioritizer. Aman acknowledges that finding time for work and personal life can be challenging, especially for an actively practicing lawyer. Listen as Aman explains why she advocates for lawyers and their mental health and why she is creating an Empire of Freedom.Aman Costigan emphasizes the importance of integrating yoga and wellness practices into daily life beyond just the confines of a yoga mat. Aman acknowledges that lawyers constantly move, do, and multitask and seldom have the time or space for a traditional yoga practice. Therefore, Aman started offering easy yoga breathing techniques and other activities that can be done anytime and anywhere. The goal is to make yoga accessible and adaptable to fit into busy lifestyles through her business, Beyond Yoga for Lawyers. Additionally, Aman Costigan mentions that she's given multiple speeches about work-life balance but questions whether the term "balance" is appropriate. Life is about prioritizing! Specifically, finding ways to practice law while pursuing personal desires and goals. Instead of trying to escape from the demands of a legal career, Aman encourages individuals to take control of their lives and improve their lives by prioritizing.Since creating Beyond Yoga for Lawyers, Aman has added pillars to their wellness practices, building their "empire of freedom." She has been invited to speak at women's lawyers groups, where Aman shares her journey and provides guidance on achieving personal and professional fulfillment. During these talks, Aman Costigan also incorporates easy yoga breathing and other activities to provide practical tools for well-being. It is evident that Aman has incorporated yoga into every aspect of her life because even her husband, Tom, practiced yoga with her. Although the two no longer teach classes together, Aman relishes their time teaching and training other lawyers. Aman and Tom met in law school.Overall, the episode explores the concept of work-life balance and suggests the idea of work-life integration as a more suitable term. It highlights the challenges of balancing work and personal life but also emphasizes the importance of prioritizing personal interests and finding ways to integrate them into one's professional life.LISTEN TO LEARN How to build an empire of freedom The value of balancing work, family, and wellness How yoga helps lawyers break down mental health barriers WE ALSO DISCUSS How prioritizing allows you to pursue your passions beyond the law What it means to take control of your life Why you need a Quarterly Marriage Alignment Retreat ADVERTISER:Save time and create faster with KD Creative. Born in Bangor, Maine, Kate Costigan spent the first six years of her life creating memories with her family in the New England states. When her mother passed away, she moved to Florida, where the makeup of her “grown-ups” changed dramatically. Kate's teachers became her heroes and inspired her to become an educator. The stories she shares are reflections of her personal experiences as well as those she has witnessed in her nineteen years as a teacher. Kate hopes to help children around the world see that differences can and should be celebrated and that kindness is a universal language. https://bookshop.org/p/books/my-grown-ups-kate-costigan/17304204?ean=9781612449920 Support the showTwitter: GenderStoriesInstagram: GenderStoriesHosted by Alex IantaffiMusic by Maxwell von RavenLogo by Lior Allen
John Costigan (JC) has been in Sales and Sales training well before John Barrows (JB) got into the industry. JB has been a long time fan but the two never actually met until one day JC reached out to JB one day on LinkedIn with a message “it's probably time we need to talk. I really admire what you've done to represent our space. ”During their first call it was evident they shared similar values along with a similar mentality and approach to the profession of Sales. During this episode they talk about their respective training journeys and how JC broke through the noise by doing live cold calling on stage. They talk through tactics, strategies, what's changed and what has stayed the same throughout the years in Sales. Recently JC fought and beat throat cancer which gave him a completely new perspective on life and appreciation of time. With JB's dad passing recently they both shared how these challenges affected them and ultimately made them stronger and more purpose driven.
