Danny Masterson is an American actor best known for his role in That 70's Show. In 2020, he was charged with raping three women in 2001 and 2003. Masterson and his victims were all members of the Church of Scientology. The church's policies and threats toward the victims caused a 20-year delay in bringing the crimes to justice. Daryl Pitts, aka DP, is back for his third illustrious guest appearance on the podcast, and he has one hell of a story to tell. Conrad Hilton III is young, rich, and accustomed to getting what he wants. So when he boarded a commercial flight (the horror!) from London to Los Angeles and was asked to turn off his cell phone, he immediately lost his cool. He screamed obscenities at the flight attendants. He punched the bulkhead. He smoked weed in the airplane bathroom. Later, he threatened to kill the flight attendants. When they handcuffed him, he complained that they would ruin his modeling career. When they finally landed and lil Conrad was made to face some consequences, his family hired famed O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro. Then Kristin tells a truly disgusting story about a horrific pot of coffee. On a Monday morning in the spring of 2009, Michael Utz was at work for the city of Culpeper, Virginia. He walked over to his personal coffee pot, but when he opened it up, he noticed that it was already filled with water. But… the water didn’t smell like water. It smelled like urine. He immediately went to his boss, who made it his mission to find the culprit. And now for a note about our process. For each episode, Kristin reads a bunch of articles, then spits them back out in her very limited vocabulary. Brandi copies and pastes from the best sources on the web. And sometimes Wikipedia. (No shade, Wikipedia. We love you.) We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: “Peeved ex-employee relieves himself of $5,001,” by Rhonda Simmons for the Star Exponent In this episode, DP pulled from: “Conrad Hilton and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Flight” by Amy Wallace for GQ.com “Hilton Family Struggles to Keep Their Latest Drama Under Wraps” by Erica Harwood for Vanity Fair “Conrad Hilton Violates Restraining Order, Seen in Bizarre Video with Stuffed Bear Outside of Ex-GF’s House” by the Blast Staff for TheBlast.com “Conrad Hilton, Brother of Paris, Gets Probation for Taking Ex-girlfriend’s Father’s Bentley” by City News Services for the LA Daily News “Socialite Conrad Hilton’s Journey to the Dark Side” by Amy Zimmerman for the Daily Beast “Paris is Bad? We open the show with a tribute to Sister Mitchell and the impact that she made through her example and her sacrifice. If you haven't seen the Memorial service please watch the Livestream. Segment One We are pleased to be joined be Pastor Paul Alvarez from Houston, TX for the entirety of this episode. Dave was unavailable for recording, so Paul stepped in at the eleventh hour and did a great job for us. We ask you to pray for him and his family as they are going into the mission field of Guangzhou, China in a few short weeks. We open the show with a word study of the Greek word for rebuke: epitimaō. Epi meaning on, in, upon and Timao meaning honor or value. The literal meaning of the word rebuke is "to put higher honor"! That'll preach! Segment Two We dive into another famous rebuke in the bible, represented by our cover art this week; when Jesus says to Peter, "Get behind me Satan!". The interesting thing is how quickly Jesus' words turned on Peter. In one instant, Jesus is praising Peter for his revelation from God, calling Peter the rock on which He would build His church. In the next instant, calling him Satan and saying, "you are not mindful of the things of God". Isn't it also true that in discipleship, the atmosphere can quickly change from praise to correction? And sometimes both at the same time? It's worth your time to soak in the song from the break, called Though You Slay Me by Shane and Shane. Augmented by a sermon clip from John Piper, you'll be reminded that there is no such thing in the Kingdom of God as pain without purpose. Segment Three Coming in to bat cleanup for us is Paul Alvarez's Dad, Bob Alvarez. We are so pleased to have Pastor Alvarez join us to share some wisdom and experience from 36 years of Christianity and dealing with rebukes. He truly brings out some amazing truth, both how to handle the rebuke when it's given and when it's received. Ask yourself: Is this a rebuke I would give to my best friend, or do I just have an axe to grind? When receiving the rebuke, does your heart get twisted? Please listen carefully as Pastor Alvarez breaks it own for us. In our final break, we hear the well-produced title track of the new NEEDTOBREATHE album entitled, Hard Love. In this episode we are extremely blessed and privileged to welcome Evangelist Richard Graham to discuss the important topic of serving God and Country. As a 21-year Army Sergeant, Evangelist Graham has some very helpful insights to offer to churches, pastors and disciples for working with military converts. We must apologize for mentioning in the podcast that it is episode 22 when it is actually episode 23. We must also apologize for the conversation being cut off at the end.. Somehow we had an equipment failure that did not record the last three minutes of the show. But don't worry, you heard all of the best parts of our conversation. Segment One – We discuss the various reasons why it seems that our churches and our fellowship thrives in military areas. We contemplate the biblical role of the military and whether or not to encourage/discourage people to enlist. Break – During the break we hear a classic rap-rock anthem from Pillar, Echelon. We also debut a new segment, BLASTBook Excerpts. Our hope is to inspire you to do your own study of foundational books that everyone in our fellowship should be familiar with. Purchase the book by clicking on the image of the cover: Segment Two In the second half of our 23rd episode, Pastor Dragoon and Evangelist Graham discuss some of the very real challenges that churches face as military members get saved and begin to assimilate into the body of Christ. Speaking from experience, Ev. Graham enlightens TheBLAST audience by talking about the realities of returning home from the battlefield and facing PTSD. Thanks again for listening! Episode 022 – Discipleship Qualities to Seek in MenGreetings once again, BLASTers! This week's episode was recorded during a car ride to a Men's Discipleship meeting in Jacksonville, NC. So, what topic was on our minds? Discipleship, of course! Years ago Pastor Wayman Mitchell distributed an article in a "pastor's pack" at a Prescott Bible Conference. The article was based on a talk he gave at a men's breakfast and it focused on seven qualities that we should be seeking in our men.The first three qualities, which we expound upon are as follows:FaithfulnessThe ability to continue on with a project, vision, or ministry.RelationshipsThe ability to support and encourage a wife, maintain a marriage and have control over children. The ability to make and keep friends, resolve conflicts and remain flexibleFruitfulnessA person who possesses skills in follow-up, group ministry such as bible studies and bands and who communicates clearly. This person also has momentum in personal spiritual growth. We take a quick break and hear a little Newsboys...When we return from the break (which, in full disclosure, was a bathroom break for the rest of the men in the car), we discuss the other four qualities. We expound on each of these, they are as follows:FinancesSomeone who is capable of managing the finances of a marriage and meets their financial obligations in a timely and adequate mannerSelf-MotivationThe self-motivated can initiate and follow through on projects. They do not need a full game plan or hands-on guidance to finish the task.DisciplineThe disciplines of a spiritual life include prayer, bible study, evangelism and worship. There is also discipline in details, timeliness and availability form ministry that must be cultivated.TeachableLeaders and disciples must be receptive to discipline, correction and instruction from headship. This must be maintained when others are promoted, in times of laboring in obscurity and among one’s peers. What about you? How do you measure up against this list?We mentioned a couple episodes ago that we will be doing an episode regarding outreach ideas for the non-musically talented. We have now had several people express interest in us doing such an episode, so we will most likely do it next. However, we would love to hear from you if you have any ideas, things that have or haven't worked, etc. Are you receiving our email newsletter? Hello BLASTers! We welcome you back to Episode 21 where we discuss the raging issue of the hour - Transgender bathroom rights! What do we do? How do we respond? But first, we want to give a big THANK YOU to Pastor Brian Lowery for donating the professional-grade radio microphone to TheBLAST! It has greatly improved our sound quality. You may have heard a great deal about the issue of trans-gender persons having "equal restroom rights" in the news or on social media lately, and you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. So we wanted to offer a brief history (which turns out to not be so brief) not so much in regards to trans-genderism, but the bathroom issue specifically. We will discuss trans-genderism a little later in the episode. It started when California Governor Jerry Brown signed the "School Bathroom Bill" into law back in August of 2013. Yes, this issue is that old. The bill allows students to compete on sports teams and use facilities like showers and bathrooms based on their gender identity, regardless of what is listed on the student's records. This is essentially where the issue started. Since that time other states have taken up similar measures.More recently Andraya Williams, a transgender student at Central Piedmont Community College in North Carolina, was detained by security officers and escorted off campus after she used the women's bathroom. The LGBTQ Law Center is demanding that the college apologize and affirm her right to use the women's bathroom, which would be consistent with her gender identity. This event spurred the Charlotte City Council to approve a "non-discrimination ordinance" (NDO) which included a provision allowing transgender residents to use either a men’s or women’s bathroom, depending on the gender with which they identify. For most people the issue came to the forefront of the news when the State of North Carolina rejected and overturned Charlotte's ordinance. As a result the state and Governor Pat McRory has come under tremendous pressure from over 90 big-name businesses including Apple, Google, Facebook and Twitter as well as mayors and governors in other states, the media at large and of course LGBTQ activists. Yet, he has not wavered as of this writing. If you hadn't heard about that, you have probably heard about this. In April international retailer Target came out with an article on their website which says, “In our stores, we demonstrate our commitment to an inclusive experience in many ways. Most relevant for the conversations currently underway, we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.”
Segment OneHello BLASTers! Sorry for the span between episodes. We've been ultra-busy! Between Pastor Adam going to the Philippines to preach for Pastor Mel Biangco and a multi-church revival with Pastor Campbell as soon as he returned it's been quite a chore finding time to sit down behind TheBLAST microphones. In this episode we re-examine an issue that we had discussed back in Episode 14 regarding the upcoming presidential election. If you heard that episode you know that both Pastor Adam and Dave gave an endorsement to Senator Ted Cruz. In light of current events, namely Cruz dropping out of the race (as well as Gov. Kasich who also dropped out), we are essentially left with two choices: the two candidates pictured above). We felt that we owed it to you our audience to discuss what direction we go from here, being that we had given that endorsement. Do we simply now vote for Donald Trump? Do we vote for the other party as a protest vote? Do we go with a third party candidate? Do we still vote for the candidate we endorsed? Listen and find out. What do you plan to do? Who are you voting for, and why? Let us know in the comments, send us an email or voicemail, or join us on TheBLAST forum on Slack. We are treated to some Royal Tailor in the break...Segment TwoIn the second segment we discuss new show ideas that we've received, mostly from our listeners. You have given us some very good ideas and we can't wait to do episodes on each of them. A few of the ideas include dating vs. courting, whether churches should have social media accounts (and if so, which ones?), Judaism and Christianity, and our personal favorite - outreach suggestions for the non-musically talented! We love it!That's all for now. Thank you very much for your continued support. And we promise to do episodes more frequently and consistently. Until next time, God bless you and thank you for listening! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Most of you who listen to TheBLAST Podcast are Americans and can therefore vouch for the fact that, given the option, Americans tend to gravitate toward things that are bigger. Just think of the smartphone phenomenon: remember when they seemed to be getting smaller and smaller? Seems like eons ago, doesn't it? Nowadays, the bigger the screen the better! Likewise, just drive down any American highway and you'll notice a healthy mix of cars, SUV's and over-sized trucks on the road (and I don't mean big rigs). Don't get us wrong, we at TheBLAST like big phones and big trucks as much as the next guy. But has the same kind of "bigger is better" attitude trickled into the church? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Hey BLASTers! Dave here with this week's episode recap. In the first segment we had the privilege of interviewing Lincoln Sheppard of Fullerton, CA who, along with his pastor, Richard Salanoa, has created a new ministry called Men Making Amends along with its corresponding website, menmakingamends.com. The idea behind Men Making Amends, or MMA, is very simple yet profound - real change is spiritual. There are four major categories of life in which Christian men of this generation are failing: Discipleship, Family, Finances and Leadership. Lincoln and Pastor Salanoa recognized this in the men they were seeing come into the Kingdom of God. They both saw the need for a comprehensive ministry specifically targeted toward men covering the four areas just mentioned. The result was, you guessed it, MMA. As they say on their website: Men Making Amends is a men’s group designed for men of all background to make it right with their Creator by taking the first step, a total surrender of the heart. The second step will decide what happens next. It's the second step that men wrestle with most. Men Making Amends provides spiritual fighting skills to enter the spiritual octagon to fight for real victories. Starting on the campus of Cal State Fullerton the MMA ministry began meetings during which men were able to speak candidly about the issues they were facing and receive encouragement from their brethren. Lincoln gave an impassioned testimony of how it all began and the exciting developments that have taken place since. The MMA concept has spread to many other CFM churches in the Los Angeles and San Diego areas, then to Arizona and eventually Texas. The MMA website not only gives men links to great resources such as Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and Dr. James Dobson's Family Legacy, but also shows where future meetings in those areas will be held. We'd love to see this idea catch fire!During the break we hear a fantastic song from one of the best Christian Rock bands of all time (in my humble opinion) Jonah33, "Father's Song". In Part 2 we address a topic that we've spoken a little about in the last few episodes: our desire for TheBLAST to improve and become a self-supporting ministry. We had previously put the question to you our audience asking whether you'd prefer to donate to TheBLAST directly, or hear a few advertisements. Most of you said, "Give us the ads!" However, some said they'd prefer a donation. We decided to leave both options on the table and allow you to choose. You may have noticed that there are a few buttons at the top of this webpage having to do with supporting the podcast. By clicking on any of those buttons you'll have an opportunity to do just that. You may say, "But two of the three buttons take me to Amazon. What's that about?" I'm glad you asked. By shopping on Amazon via TheBLAST's webpage we actually get a small commission on the sale. So, by doing something you already do (because who doesn't like shopping on Amazon?) you'll be helping us! By clicking on the button that says "Support by Donating at Kindrid" you'll be able to make a direct donation. By the way, if you don't use Kindrid for online giving at your church, we highly recommend it. They have made it so easy, you can give via text message! We end by giving you a preview of what an upcoming ad will sound like. Please feel free to leave us a voicemail and/or leave us a review on iTunes. That's all for now, BLASTers. Until next time, Godspeed! Dave --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Episode 16 is ready for you to hear! Our topic this time around is Kingdom Resources. First Segment – We kick off this sweet sixteenth episode by looking at the problem of dry-well syndrome. How do we keep ourselves from losing our spiritual inspiration? We look at 2Timothy 4:9-14 where Paul asks his disciple to bring him what must be the things he longed for the most in his prison cell: his disciple Mark, his cloak and his books, "especially the parchments". Paul longed to have the resources to nourish his languishing soul. Ever found yourself right there? I know we have. Pastor Dragoon urges us to consider the great advantages that the Christian community has with over 2000 years of scholarly study under our belt, not to mention over 5000 years of Jewish scholarship to learn from. Truly, we stand on the shoulders of giants. We have much knowledge and experience to gain from their collective study of God's Word. In the first break, we hear one of our favorite songs ever: Creed by Rich Mullins, performed live by Third Day. Second Segment – We are so delighted to welcome Pastor Kevin Foley from McMinnville, OR to TheBLAST! Pastor Foley gives us some much needed wisdom and guidance in securing great resources for the different stages of our Christian experience. Make sure to check below for a master list of all the resources mentioned in this extensive episode. Pastor Foley responds to those that might have the idea that they don't need revelation from extra-biblical resources, that the "me and my bible" Christian is robbing himself of much blessing. Our second break allows us to hear a catchy tune by Brandon Heath called, It's No Good to be Alone. Segment Three Pastor Dragoon and Dave share some of their favorite resources that they were unable to get to during the interview with Pastor Foley. TheBLAST Podcast is back with a special episode about the importance of caring for our new believers. In segment one Pastor Dragoon and Dave welcome Cadence O'Neal, our church's most recent new believer, to TheBLAST audience. We share the absolute necessity of seeing new believers come into our church. Just like in every good family, the most important members are the youngest among us. They breathe new life into our congregations, giving us the wonderful opportunity for ministry, mentoring and discipleship. We compare the similarities of natural birth and supernatural birth, drawing inspiration from the story of the newly converted Saul on the road to Damascus from Acts 9:1-20. We are reminded about God's concern for the little ones, those that cannot defend themselves... Luke 17:2- 2 "It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones." We also make a few points about the demonic strategy of "Attack Early and Often". The enemy always makes a point to come against the righteous while they are still in their weakest moments early in life. Consider his targets: Satan didn't wait to tempt humanity until many generations had come and passed. He attacked, strategized and engaged the human race very early on in our history.. Third chapter of the bible! The demonic inspired Pharaoh of Egypt issued a decree to have all male children under the age of two to be destroyed. Hell desired to kill Moses before he could ever rise up to lead God's people out of bondage and into the promised land. King Herod attempted the same thing after Christ was born: "Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men." (Matthew 2:16). Hell was attempting to snuff out the Christ-child in his infancy. The great temptation of Christ occurred early in his ministry, still in the infant stage. "When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'” (Matthew 3:16, 17 NKJV) In the first break we hear a recent release from Lincoln Brewster called "There is Power". Segment Two We have the great honor and privilege of being the first to hear Cadence's amazing testimony and how God brought him to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We hope that this faith journey inspires you. He shares with us some early spiritual battles that have been happening in his life. We also get some much needed perspective on the church and how new believers perceive those that are already here. VERY ENCOURAGING! During our second break we are very pleased to present the early release of the title track from Phil Wickham's upcoming album, "Your Love Awakens Me". I have been a big fan of his music and cannot wait for this to come out so I can hear what other treasures are contained! Segment Three We close this episode by sharing some "If I was in your shoes" advice with Cadence. These are the types of things we all need to hear early (and later on) in our salvation. Let us all be reminded of the great need for believers to develop the habits of prayer, bible study, evangelism, church attendance and fellowship. Thanks again for investing your most precious commodity into our show, your time! We invite you to leave us a voicemail, send us an email, review us on iTunes, and connect with us on Twitter or Instagram. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
