If you were tasked with writing out the job description of a school nurse, what would be on that list? If your kiddo has food allergy, then definitely "knows how and when to use epinephrine auto-injector AND can show others the same." This is such an important part of being a school nurse as is caring for students with other medical conditions. To give us a glimpse into the multi-tasking life of a school nurse, this episodes is my recent conversation with Tracy White, BA, BSN, RN, School Specialist with Virginia Department of Education and the School Nurse Consultant. As the United States' Independence Day comes closer, some celebrated another independence earlier with Juneteenth. The holiday, also known as the African American independence day, was celebrated on June 19th. 2020 marks the 155th anniversary of the last set of slaves being emancipated. Around the country, there were rallies, celebrations, and parties to honor this special day. In Davenport, Iowa, a group called Friends of MLK held a virtual festival celebration with over 7,000 viewers. I spoke with one of the organizers, Tracy White, about why this holiday should be celebrated by everyone. For a transcript of the episode, click here.
