When the diagnostic test PrecivityAD hit the market in 2020, it democratized early detection of Alzheimer's disease. The blood test, developed by C2N Diagnostics, is more accessible than brain imaging and spinal fluid tests, which can be expensive and invasive. WashU Medicine professor and C2N Diagnostics co-founder Dr. David Holtzman talks about his team's innovation and how their work has contributed to our understanding of the disorder and how to treat it. He also shares how the commercialization process afforded to universities through the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980 has brought innovative discoveries like PrecivityAD to the general public. Holtzman and his colleague, Dr. Randall Bateman, will receive the American Innovator Award from the Bayh-Dole Coalition in Washington, D.C. next week.

If you've ever talked yourself out of being visible — pulled back from an opportunity, avoided putting something out there, or kept waiting until you felt more ready — you're going to love this episode. I'm joined by Anna Holtzman, a licensed therapist, coach, and host of the podcast How to Trust Yourself, who works with accomplished women ready to express their voice with clarity and integrity and lead from the inside out. Anna's background spans TV, publishing, and years of nervous system-informed practice that grew out of her own experience with burnout and chronic pain — and what she and I get into in this conversation is something that doesn't get talked about enough in the business world: the nervous system's role in everything we do.What we explore together is why the most sensitive, most gifted people — the coaches, the healers, the creatives — are often the ones most afraid to be seen. It's not because they don't have something important to say — it's because the very openness that makes them extraordinary at their work is the same thing that makes visibility feel genuinely threatening at a biological level. But what makes this conversation extra juicy is how much Anna and I have in common — she brings the therapeutic lens and I bring my yoga perspective — but we both have a deep connection to the somatic, nervous system and inner work that we both love. Together we get to have the kind of conversation that goes beneath the surface of business strategy and into the real, tangible reasons why fear has such profound consequences for how visible you're willing to be, how you talk about your work, and ultimately how much of an impact you make. In this episode we talk about:Why coaches, healers, and creatives are wired for deep vulnerability in their work — and why that same wiring makes visibility feel so much more threatening than it does for othersThe nervous system explanation for why you talk yourself out of putting your work into the world, and why pushing through it without addressing what's underneath rarely works long-termAnna's dialoguing with fear method — and what it actually sounds like to treat your fear like a trusted friend instead of a problem to eliminateThe "readiness" myth: what's really happening when you keep moving the goalpost on when you'll finally feel ready to be seenWhy the moment things start working can feel just as destabilizing as when they're hard — and what that tells you about how your nervous system is wiredHow graded exposure — small, nervous-system-friendly steps forward — creates lasting change without the boomerang effect of going too big too fastThe role of co-regulation and community in making any of this possible, and why they aren't soft extras — they're the actual mechanism through which transformation happensYou don't have to get rid of your fear to be visible. You never will. But you can learn to move with it — and this episode is going to show you how!Connect with Anna on Instagram and get her free workshop, "Be Seen", for sensitive entrepreneurs & creatives who want to be seen and heard—without losing themselves.

She began her career in design journalism and spent over a decade working in television and publishing before feeling the pull toward something deeper. Her transition into therapy and coaching wasn't part of a plan—it was shaped by experience. What does it really mean to be seen—and why does it feel so uncomfortable, even when we want it? Visibility isn't just a strategy; it's an emotional and physiological experience that can bring up fear, resistance, and self-doubt. For many entrepreneurs and storytellers, the desire to share their message is often in direct tension with the body's instinct to stay safe. Understanding that dynamic is the first step to showing up in a way that feels sustainable and aligned. In this episode of The Inside Story Podcast, April sits down with visibility coach and former therapist Anna Holtzman to explore the deeper layers of what holds us back from being seen. Together, they unpack the nervous system's role in visibility and how to move through fear without burning out. On October 30, 1975, the New York Daily News printed the most famous headline in its history: “Ford to City: Drop Dead.” The previous day, President Gerald Ford had delivered a speech at the National Press Club in Washington on the looming bankruptcy of New York City. In the speech, Ford publicly denied the near-bankrupt New York City a federal bailout. The next morning, the streets of Manhattan were littered with the incendiary headline.  It has been fifty years since the publication of the headline, which presents an opportunity to reconsider this historical period. In this special edition episode, host Ryan Purcell talks with Benjamin Holtzman, Assistant Professor of History at Lehman College (CUNY), about the soundtracks behind New York's fiscal crisis. Holtzman is the author of The Long Crisis: New York and the Path to Neoliberalism (Oxford University Press, 2023), a volume that returns to this turbulent period to explore the origins and implications of the diminished faith in government as capable of solving public problems. In the wake of the fiscal crisis of 1975, Holtzman argues, local people and officials rebuilt the city from the ground up, creating a system that would both exacerbate old racial and economic inequalities and produce new ones that continue to shape metropolitan areas today. With the June primary approaching, plenty of attention has been focused on the race for mayor. But there's an important and highly competitive contest on the undercard: the race for City Comptroller. What does the comptroller do and why should New Yorkers care? NY1's Errol Louis decided to talk more about the job with two former comptrollers who were major players in New York's political arena — Liz Holtzman and Bill Thompson. A former congresswoman and district attorney, Holtzman served as a city comptroller from 1990 to 1993, while Thompson held the job from 2002 to 2009. They discussed the qualities voters should look for in the next comptroller, emphasizing the need for intelligence, honesty, experience and innovation. Both guests also reflected on their biggest achievements. Join the conversation, weigh in on X using the hashtag #NY1YouDecide or give us a call at 212-379-3440 and leave a message. At 83 years old, Martha Stewart is still as relevant as ever, and she just released a new documentary to prove it. Martha takes us through the highs, lows, and reinventions of her iconic career. In this episode, we're diving into the world of Martha and the power of documentaries with our special guest, Amy Holtzman, Chief Marketing Officer at CHEQ. Together, we're exploring what B2B marketers can learn from bringing documentary-style storytelling into their marketing and the legacy Martha Stewart built. We're talking about how to build an authentic brand, own your unique style, and stay top of mind for decades.Because let's be real: who wouldn't want their brand to have Martha Stewart-level resilience?About our guest, Amy HoltzmanAmy Holtzman is Chief Marketing Officer at CHEQ. Amy brings 20 years of marketing experience to CHEQ, including tenure as CMO and head of marketing at Spring Health, AlphaSense, and Splash. She is also a founding member of Chief, a private network that connects and supports female leaders, and co-founder of NYC-based Women in Revenue Marketing.  What B2B Companies Can Learn From Martha:Resilience builds a legacy.
Martha Stewart's documentary doesn't shy away from the tough moments, and that's part of what makes her story so powerful. In business, as in life, setbacks are inevitable. Amy Holtzman puts it simply: “You gotta show up the next day… roll with the punches and figure out how you get through it.” Resilience and conviction aren't just admirable traits,  they're essential for building a brand that lasts for decades.Own your style.
Martha's perfectionism is part of her brand. She's unapologetically herself, and it's helped her stand out for decades. Amy encourages marketers to take a page from that approach. She explains, “ Martha's an unapologetic perfectionist… Martha owns it, and it's what made her successful. And I think you have to not necessarily own Martha's style, but you have to own your own style.” In B2B marketing, embracing your quirks and leaning into what makes you different is more powerful than playing it safe.Build trust through authenticity.
Martha's documentary reminds us that connection comes from honesty. Her brand works because it's consistent and deeply personal. Amy says the same holds true in marketing, “As humans, we crave connection…I  think people shy away from it and B2B a lot of times because they're worried… I think that's what we want. And we can also kind of sniff bulls*** a mile away.” Don't hide behind jargon or trends. The more human your brand feels, the more trust you'll build.Quotes*“  You're gonna get knocked down…But you gotta show up the next day. You have to kind of do it all in stride. If you wanna make it right and make a name for yourself and for your business, you have to just like roll with the punches and figure out how you get through it.”*“ You gotta own what makes you special and unique, right? Martha's an unapologetic perfectionist. She insists on things being her way. A lot of times like women can get negative feedback about that and Martha owns it, and it's what made her successful. And I think you have to not necessarily own Martha's style, but you have to own your own style. It's hard to change. You can adapt in certain situations, but you're not gonna change who you are. And I do think you've gotta own it. You gotta own your own unique style. And sometimes that's not what everybody loves, but it's also what makes you and also your brand special and unique.”*“ I feel like as humans we crave connection and look for commonalities, right? And I think people shy away from it, and B2B a lot of times, because they're worried. What if somebody doesn't like that thing or doesn't have the same values that I have? We need to think about what those things are that we share, but also, there's room to be ourselves and be authentic, like Martha, a bit more too. Because, as humans, I think that's what we want, right? And we can also kind of sniff bullsh** a mile away, right? When somebody's not who they say they are. So I think there's room for a bit more.”*“ I know we're probably all sick of like everything AI, but I actually think it's incredibly important to stay really up to speed and think about it beyond productivity.”Time Stamps[0:55] Amy Holtzman, Chief Marketing Officer at CHEQ[02:07] Why Martha, the Martha Stewart Documentary[02:40] The Role of CMO at CHEQ[05:09] Breaking Down Martha[14:22] B2B Marketing Takeaways from Martha[19:57] The Importance of Authentic Storytelling[25:27] Why You Should Be Documenting Brand Moments[32:36] CHEQ's Marketing Strategy[36:14] The Power in Reinventing and Not Replicating[42:22] The Future of AI in MarketingLinksConnect with Amy on LinkedInLearn more about CHEQAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. Rachel conveyed her gratitude to partners like Holtzman Corp for their invaluable support. Janet highlighted the success and the critical role partnerships play in the expansion of Opportunity Scholars. Caroline delved deeper into the organization's growth strategy, particularly highlighting their expansion into Shenandoah County, thanks to a generous gift from Bill Holtzman. “We are very focused on career and technical education because let's face it – we are seeing critical shortages in everything from HVAC to electrical, to nursing,” Brown stated. She emphasized the importance of their partnerships with local schools, businesses, and the need for a dedicated coach to support their scholars. Shonda shed light on the diversity of opportunities within Holtzman Corp and the mutual benefits of their partnership with Opportunity Scholars. Avis elaborated on how the corporation's support aligns with Holtzman's community-focused ethos, providing a healthy pipeline of qualified candidates for various roles within their extensive business operations. The conversation also touched upon the significance of community engagement and the importance of local support. In this special episode of Veteran Made, Carey Kight interviews Mark Holtzman, an aerial photographer who has captured iconic images of military flyovers at the Rose Bowl for over 15 years. Holtzman's journey began in 2009 when he serendipitously photographed a B-2 bomber flying over the stadium during the national anthem. This image, which went viral and earned international recognition, sparked a tradition that has become a hallmark of American sports culture. The conversation delves into the intricate process of capturing these breathtaking moments, blending the precision of military aviation with the pageantry of college football. Holtzman describes the challenges of coordinating with Air Force pilots, navigating complex airspace, and timing his shots to perfection. His photographs encapsulate the essence of Americana, showcasing the convergence of military might, collegiate tradition, and national pride in a single frame. Throughout the episode, the veteran and civilian find common ground in their appreciation for these uniquely American experiences. They discuss the significance of the Rose Bowl as “The Granddaddy of Them All,” the pride of university marching bands performing intricate formations, and the awe-inspiring sight of a stealth bomber soaring over a sea of cheering fans. Holtzman's work not only commemorates these moments for the pilots and spectators but also serves as a powerful symbol of the shared values and experiences that unite Americans across different walks of life. Hey there, music lovers.  Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives.  I'm your host, Jeff Miers. More than a decade back, I hopped on the bus as an embedded reporter, covering a Northeast jaunt for then up-and-coming indie band Aqueous.  I'd never met any of the band members, or their manager, Josh Holtzman, previous to that road trip.  By the end of that mini-tour, I knew that I'd laid the ground work for some friendships that, time has proven, were built to last.  Today, Josh Holtzman and his business partner Grace Vesneske are the driving force behind premier music venue Buffalo Iron Works and independent production company Twenty6 Productions.  Long before pundits were tossing around terms like “the Buffalo Renaissance,” Holtzman and Vesneske were working tirelessly to help resurrect the long-abandoned Cobblestone District of downtown Buffalo through their inventive and forward-looking booking at Iron Works. Their fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude helped them guide their businesses through the pandemic with their integrity intact. That same spirit has the pair excited about what the future holds, and what form their continuing contributions to Buffalo music and culture might take.  Welcome to Why Music Matters, Josh Holtzman and Grace Vesneske.

Mark Holtzman is a California native with over 25 years of experience as both a photographer and pilot. He began taking pictures at an early age, under the guidance of his father, who was also an amateur photographer.  By age 10, Mark and his father could be frequently seen in their make-shift darkroom at home. At age 17, Mark got his pilot's license and has been flying ever since. But the idea of aerial photography was not fully realized for several years, although recently uncovered film and slides indicates that Mark has been shooting pictures from airplanes for years.  Over the years, Mark has explored a variety of careers, studying Music at Cal State Northridge, working as an LA County Beach Lifeguard and Paramedic, and even trying his hand at acting - making a brief appearance in All the President's Men.  In early 2000, Mark combined his two passions, photography and aviation, and started West Coast Aerial Photography. He gave up another job to pursue aerial photography full-time in 2007. By 2008, Mark's son, Steven, joined the West Coast Aerial Photography team full-time.  Today, Mark and his son can be seen shooting aerial and ground images throughout the world. Many of Mark's photos have been seen globally, both online and in print. www.markholtzman.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matt-brown57/support

On April 2, 1976 the Oakland A's trade future Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson and World Series hero and Al Start Pitcher Ken Holtzman to the Baltimore Orioles for Don Baylor, Mike Torrez and Paul Mitchell. At the time Jackson had won an MVP, made 6 All-Star appearances, was a driving force in 3 Championships, and he was second all-time in home runs for the franchise and 4th in career RBI's. Holtzman was a workhorse pitching between 255 - 297 innings and winning 58% of his games. He made 2 All-Star games and won game 7 in the 1973 World Series. Don Baylor at the time was an evolving player and Mike Torrez had established himself as a good pitcher but not on Holtzman's level. We look into the trade and why it happened. Few women have had a bigger impact on New York City politics than Elizabeth Holtzman. A Brooklyn native, Holtzman embarked on a political career over 50 years ago. She was an aide to Mayor John Lindsay in the late 60s and then became the youngest woman at the time ever elected to Congress at 31 years old. She was also the Brooklyn district attorney and the New York City comptroller — the only woman ever to hold either of those positions. Holtzman joined NY1's Errol Louis for a look back at her many years in politics. They discussed her role in the Nixon impeachment investigation while serving on the House Judiciary Committee in 1974. They also touched on her long relationship with President Joe Biden, her thoughts on Republican candidate Donald Trump, and the many accomplishments of women in politics since she started. Finally, she explained what made her initially enter public service and why it still matters to her. Kathryn interviewed Elise Holtzman, President of The Lawyer's Edge, who shares her journey from pre-med to law and discusses challenges faced by lawyers. She highlights the pressure being overwhelming leading to visible stress, but advises breaking down goals into smaller achievable tasks. Elise also points out that self-doubts often block individuals from expressing their needs or setting boundaries, and stresses the need to ignore such doubts as they are not based on reality. She encourages lawyers to seek help when stuck and to realize that progress requires new skills and habits, even if changing these seems hard.   Highlights Why Elise decided to move from medical school to law school The idea of conducting "mini experiments” and trying a few new things like learning to delegate more or showing up with solutions rather than just problems. Law firms' responsibility to communicate their expectations upfront to their associates and to give them a clear roadmap for professional development Ways individuals can develop a macro perspective on their legal career while dealing with daily tasks, such as finding quiet time to reflect or discussing with a friend Spending time with like-minded individuals who can provide motivation and support in aspiring career advancements The challenges of being stuck in a rut in the legal field and suggests making small changes to gradually improve the situation The importance of pacing oneself and not trying to make dramatic changes all at once The mental roadblocks or "gremlins" that prevent people from making much-needed changes in their careers   Episode Resources https://thelawyersedge.com/about-us/meet-elise-holtzman/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/eliseholtzman  Episode Sponsored By https://www.lexisnexis.com/lexisplus  Subscribe, Share and Review To get the next episode subscribe with your favorite podcast player.
