With the June primary approaching, plenty of attention has been focused on the race for mayor. But there's an important and highly competitive contest on the undercard: the race for City Comptroller. What does the comptroller do and why should New Yorkers care? NY1's Errol Louis decided to talk more about the job with two former comptrollers who were major players in New York's political arena — Liz Holtzman and Bill Thompson. A former congresswoman and district attorney, Holtzman served as a city comptroller from 1990 to 1993, while Thompson held the job from 2002 to 2009. They discussed the qualities voters should look for in the next comptroller, emphasizing the need for intelligence, honesty, experience and innovation. Both guests also reflected on their biggest achievements. Join the conversation, weigh in on X using the hashtag #NY1YouDecide or give us a call at 212-379-3440 and leave a message. How much does ego play a role in the art and craft of a book collaborator? That's a question at the heart of this conversation with #1 New York Times best-selling ghostwriter Rachel Holtzman, co-author of more than 60 books on topics ranging from wellness and spirituality, to cooking and entertaining, including collaborations with such celebrated personalities as Shaquille O'Neal, Alicia Silverstone, Robin Quivers, and Christine Quinn. Prior to her work as a self-described “book doula,” Rachel was an editor at Penguin Books and ELLE magazine, before a detour to culinary school and a short stint in the kitchen at New York's Gramercy Tavern helped to launch her career as an in-demand cookbook co-author and recipe tester and developer. “We're climbing inside the minds or the lives of our clients in order to produce something that is really of them,” she reflects, “while also leaving behind a pretty big footprint of our own, because it is of us as well. We're not ChatGPT.” Rachel joins us at a busy time on the collaboration front, as she celebrates the publication of four new titles this month—Tahini Baby, a collection of “veg-forward” Middle Eastern and Mediterranean-inspired recipes, written with television food personality Edin Grinshpan; The Wishbone Kitchen Cookbook, featuring seasonal recipes from celebrity chef and style curator Meredith Hayden; Living in Wisdom, a guide to peak living, from wellness educator Devi Brown; and, Playful by Design, a parenting primer on nurturing independent play, from Myriam Sandler, creator and founder of the Mothercould lifestyle platform. At 83 years old, Martha Stewart is still as relevant as ever, and she just released a new documentary to prove it. Martha takes us through the highs, lows, and reinventions of her iconic career. In this episode, we're diving into the world of Martha and the power of documentaries with our special guest, Amy Holtzman, Chief Marketing Officer at CHEQ. Together, we're exploring what B2B marketers can learn from bringing documentary-style storytelling into their marketing and the legacy Martha Stewart built. We're talking about how to build an authentic brand, own your unique style, and stay top of mind for decades.Because let's be real: who wouldn't want their brand to have Martha Stewart-level resilience?About our guest, Amy HoltzmanAmy Holtzman is Chief Marketing Officer at CHEQ. Amy brings 20 years of marketing experience to CHEQ, including tenure as CMO and head of marketing at Spring Health, AlphaSense, and Splash. She is also a founding member of Chief, a private network that connects and supports female leaders, and co-founder of NYC-based Women in Revenue Marketing.  What B2B Companies Can Learn From Martha:Resilience builds a legacy.
Martha Stewart's documentary doesn't shy away from the tough moments, and that's part of what makes her story so powerful. In business, as in life, setbacks are inevitable. Amy Holtzman puts it simply: “You gotta show up the next day… roll with the punches and figure out how you get through it.” Resilience and conviction aren't just admirable traits,  they're essential for building a brand that lasts for decades.Own your style.
Martha's perfectionism is part of her brand. She's unapologetically herself, and it's helped her stand out for decades. Amy encourages marketers to take a page from that approach. She explains, “ Martha's an unapologetic perfectionist… Martha owns it, and it's what made her successful. And I think you have to not necessarily own Martha's style, but you have to own your own style.” In B2B marketing, embracing your quirks and leaning into what makes you different is more powerful than playing it safe.Build trust through authenticity.
Martha's documentary reminds us that connection comes from honesty. Her brand works because it's consistent and deeply personal. Amy says the same holds true in marketing, “As humans, we crave connection…I  think people shy away from it and B2B a lot of times because they're worried… I think that's what we want. And we can also kind of sniff bulls*** a mile away.” Don't hide behind jargon or trends. The more human your brand feels, the more trust you'll build.Quotes*“  You're gonna get knocked down…But you gotta show up the next day. You have to kind of do it all in stride. If you wanna make it right and make a name for yourself and for your business, you have to just like roll with the punches and figure out how you get through it.”*“ You gotta own what makes you special and unique, right? Martha's an unapologetic perfectionist. She insists on things being her way. A lot of times like women can get negative feedback about that and Martha owns it, and it's what made her successful. And I think you have to not necessarily own Martha's style, but you have to own your own style. It's hard to change. You can adapt in certain situations, but you're not gonna change who you are. And I do think you've gotta own it. You gotta own your own unique style. And sometimes that's not what everybody loves, but it's also what makes you and also your brand special and unique.”*“ I feel like as humans we crave connection and look for commonalities, right? And I think people shy away from it, and B2B a lot of times, because they're worried. What if somebody doesn't like that thing or doesn't have the same values that I have? We need to think about what those things are that we share, but also, there's room to be ourselves and be authentic, like Martha, a bit more too. Because, as humans, I think that's what we want, right? And we can also kind of sniff bullsh** a mile away, right? When somebody's not who they say they are. So I think there's room for a bit more.”*“ I know we're probably all sick of like everything AI, but I actually think it's incredibly important to stay really up to speed and think about it beyond productivity.”Time Stamps[0:55] Amy Holtzman, Chief Marketing Officer at CHEQ[02:07] Why Martha, the Martha Stewart Documentary[02:40] The Role of CMO at CHEQ[05:09] Breaking Down Martha[14:22] B2B Marketing Takeaways from Martha[19:57] The Importance of Authentic Storytelling[25:27] Why You Should Be Documenting Brand Moments[32:36] CHEQ's Marketing Strategy[36:14] The Power in Reinventing and Not Replicating[42:22] The Future of AI in MarketingLinksConnect with Amy on LinkedInLearn more about CHEQAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. Rachel opened the discussion by providing an overview of what Opportunity Scholars is all about. “Opportunity Scholars is an organization that connects individuals to jobs and to education. We take people who are unemployed or underemployed and come from low to middle-income families and help connect them to employment and help connect them to an education.” She emphasized the organization's growth since its inception in 2019 and the positive impact it's had on the community. Rachel conveyed her gratitude to partners like Holtzman Corp for their invaluable support. Janet highlighted the success and the critical role partnerships play in the expansion of Opportunity Scholars. She noted that while some organizations struggle with expansion, Opportunity Scholars is prospering, thanks to their strategic alliances with various businesses and educational institutions. Caroline delved deeper into the organization's growth strategy, particularly highlighting their expansion into Shenandoah County, thanks to a generous gift from Bill Holtzman. “We are very focused on career and technical education because let's face it – we are seeing critical shortages in everything from HVAC to electrical, to nursing,” Brown stated. She emphasized the importance of their partnerships with local schools, businesses, and the need for a dedicated coach to support their scholars. Shonda shed light on the diversity of opportunities within Holtzman Corp and the mutual benefits of their partnership with Opportunity Scholars. Avis elaborated on how the corporation's support aligns with Holtzman's community-focused ethos, providing a healthy pipeline of qualified candidates for various roles within their extensive business operations. The conversation also touched upon the significance of community engagement and the importance of local support. Shonda highlighted Holtzman's commitment to giving back to the community, noting Bill Holtzman's philosophy of attributing his business success to community support and his personal passion for education. Rachel and Caroline both emphasized the need for local support to sustain and grow Opportunity Scholars. Caroline issued a plea for a new coach and highlighted the importance of community involvement in spreading the word about their mission. She encouraged everyone to engage with their social media platforms to stay updated and help spread the word. In this special episode of Veteran Made, Carey Kight interviews Mark Holtzman, an aerial photographer who has captured iconic images of military flyovers at the Rose Bowl for over 15 years. Holtzman's journey began in 2009 when he serendipitously photographed a B-2 bomber flying over the stadium during the national anthem. This image, which went viral and earned international recognition, sparked a tradition that has become a hallmark of American sports culture. The conversation delves into the intricate process of capturing these breathtaking moments, blending the precision of military aviation with the pageantry of college football. Holtzman describes the challenges of coordinating with Air Force pilots, navigating complex airspace, and timing his shots to perfection. His photographs encapsulate the essence of Americana, showcasing the convergence of military might, collegiate tradition, and national pride in a single frame. Throughout the episode, the veteran and civilian find common ground in their appreciation for these uniquely American experiences. They discuss the significance of the Rose Bowl as “The Granddaddy of Them All,” the pride of university marching bands performing intricate formations, and the awe-inspiring sight of a stealth bomber soaring over a sea of cheering fans. Holtzman's work not only commemorates these moments for the pilots and spectators but also serves as a powerful symbol of the shared values and experiences that unite Americans across different walks of life. Hey there, music lovers.  Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives.  I'm your host, Jeff Miers. More than a decade back, I hopped on the bus as an embedded reporter, covering a Northeast jaunt for then up-and-coming indie band Aqueous.  I'd never met any of the band members, or their manager, Josh Holtzman, previous to that road trip.  By the end of that mini-tour, I knew that I'd laid the ground work for some friendships that, time has proven, were built to last.  Today, Josh Holtzman and his business partner Grace Vesneske are the driving force behind premier music venue Buffalo Iron Works and independent production company Twenty6 Productions.  Long before pundits were tossing around terms like “the Buffalo Renaissance,” Holtzman and Vesneske were working tirelessly to help resurrect the long-abandoned Cobblestone District of downtown Buffalo through their inventive and forward-looking booking at Iron Works. Their fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude helped them guide their businesses through the pandemic with their integrity intact. That same spirit has the pair excited about what the future holds, and what form their continuing contributions to Buffalo music and culture might take.  Welcome to Why Music Matters, Josh Holtzman and Grace Vesneske.

Mark Holtzman is a California native with over 25 years of experience as both a photographer and pilot. He began taking pictures at an early age, under the guidance of his father, who was also an amateur photographer.  By age 10, Mark and his father could be frequently seen in their make-shift darkroom at home. At age 17, Mark got his pilot's license and has been flying ever since. But the idea of aerial photography was not fully realized for several years, although recently uncovered film and slides indicates that Mark has been shooting pictures from airplanes for years.  Over the years, Mark has explored a variety of careers, studying Music at Cal State Northridge, working as an LA County Beach Lifeguard and Paramedic, and even trying his hand at acting - making a brief appearance in All the President's Men.  In early 2000, Mark combined his two passions, photography and aviation, and started West Coast Aerial Photography. He gave up another job to pursue aerial photography full-time in 2007. By 2008, Mark's son, Steven, joined the West Coast Aerial Photography team full-time.  Today, Mark and his son can be seen shooting aerial and ground images throughout the world. Many of Mark's photos have been seen globally, both online and in print. www.markholtzman.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matt-brown57/support

Few women have had a bigger impact on New York City politics than Elizabeth Holtzman. A Brooklyn native, Holtzman embarked on a political career over 50 years ago. She was an aide to Mayor John Lindsay in the late 60s and then became the youngest woman at the time ever elected to Congress at 31 years old. She was also the Brooklyn district attorney and the New York City comptroller — the only woman ever to hold either of those positions. Holtzman joined NY1's Errol Louis for a look back at her many years in politics. They discussed her role in the Nixon impeachment investigation while serving on the House Judiciary Committee in 1974. They also touched on her long relationship with President Joe Biden, her thoughts on Republican candidate Donald Trump, and the many accomplishments of women in politics since she started. Finally, she explained what made her initially enter public service and why it still matters to her.

Kathryn interviewed Elise Holtzman, President of The Lawyer's Edge, who shares her journey from pre-med to law and discusses challenges faced by lawyers. She highlights the pressure being overwhelming leading to visible stress, but advises breaking down goals into smaller achievable tasks. Elise also points out that self-doubts often block individuals from expressing their needs or setting boundaries, and stresses the need to ignore such doubts as they are not based on reality. She encourages lawyers to seek help when stuck and to realize that progress requires new skills and habits, even if changing these seems hard.   Highlights Why Elise decided to move from medical school to law school The idea of conducting "mini experiments” and trying a few new things like learning to delegate more or showing up with solutions rather than just problems. Law firms' responsibility to communicate their expectations upfront to their associates and to give them a clear roadmap for professional development Ways individuals can develop a macro perspective on their legal career while dealing with daily tasks, such as finding quiet time to reflect or discussing with a friend Spending time with like-minded individuals who can provide motivation and support in aspiring career advancements The challenges of being stuck in a rut in the legal field and suggests making small changes to gradually improve the situation The importance of pacing oneself and not trying to make dramatic changes all at once The mental roadblocks or "gremlins" that prevent people from making much-needed changes in their careers   Episode Resources https://thelawyersedge.com/about-us/meet-elise-holtzman/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/eliseholtzman  Episode Sponsored By https://www.lexisnexis.com/lexisplus  Subscribe, Share and Review To get the next episode subscribe with your favorite podcast player. ALCS - Royals vs. Yankees For the second consecutive year, the Kansas City Royals (102 - 60) and the New York Yankees (100 - 62) will face off with the AL pennant on the line. Last year, the series went the distance, with one of the most iconic endings in playoff history, a Chris Chambliss walk off home run to send the Yanks to the World Series. This year, the series will once again go five games, with a dramatic finish in the final inning. Since he was hired as full time manager after an interim stint in 1975, all Royals manager Whitey Herzog has done is lead Kansas City to their first two playoff appearances in their relatively short history. They may have come up short in the 1976 ALCS, but this team is more than ready for a second chance. These Royals and their young core have established themselves as perennial AL contenders. Leading the was is star third baseman George Brett (22 HR 88 RBI 142 OPS+), who has cemented himself as one of the top players in the game in just his age 24 season. Bolstering the heart of this powerful lineup are Hal McRae (21 HR 92 RBI 136 OPS+) and Al Cowens (23 HR 112 RBI 137 OPS+), both of whom received MVP votes but were surprisingly not All-Stars in the '77 season. Dennis Leonard (20 - 12 3.04 ERA 292 IP) and Paul Splittorff (16 - 6 3.69 ERA 229 IP) led the way for the starters, and Herzog could deploy a bevy of reliable, but unspectacular arms to cover the late innings or spot starts. Despite the magical finish to the previous year's ALCS, the Yankees disappointed in the World Series, getting swept by the Big Red Machine. Still, expectations were sky high for manager Billy Martin, who had already taken 3 different teams to the playoffs to this point in his career. The Boss, owner George Steinbrenner, demands results; therefore, it's not enough to have the reigning MVP in catcher Thurman Munson, bring in superstar Reggie Jackson on the biggest contract ever awarded to a player. The rotation was strong with former A's All-Stars Catfish Hunter and Ken Holtzman. Let's sign Don Gullet, who just beat us in last year. With all these new faces, it is no surprise that this team got off to a slow start, but they were just too talented to let that spoil the season. The Yankees went absolutely nuclear with a 50 - 20 second half record. Munson (18 HR 100 RBI 121 OPS +) and Jackson (32 HR 100 RBI 150 OPS+) were their typical MVP-caliber-selves, while Graig Nettles (37 HR 107 RBI 124 OPS+) put together one of the best seasons of his underrated career. The pitching staff delivered, but it wasn't the stars that got it done. Gullet was solid in his first year as a Yankee, but Hunter and Holtzman were disasters. Figueroa and Torrez carried much of the load, but it was the unexpected breakout of lefty Ron Guidry (16 - 7 2.82 ERA 210 IP) that really elevated the NYY rotation. Do you ever wonder how lawyers seem to bring in an endless stream of clients? This week's guest, Elise Holtzman from The Lawyer's Edge, shares the secrets behind the art of rainmaking. We dive into Elise's personal journey, from practicing law to becoming a coach and trainer, and how she uses her knowledge to help lawyers transform into successful rainmakers. This concept, more than just attracting new clients, involves keeping existing ones happy, and importantly, having the right team to do the work. We also discuss the critical role of delegation within law firms. Investing in junior associates and trusting them with tasks not only helps firms grow but also frees up time for higher-level work. After all, we all have the same 24 hours in a day - it's how we choose to use them that counts. Connect with Elise on LinkedIn and learn more at www.thelawyersedge.com

Agritourism on The Family Farm with Michael Holtzman, CEO PPF Worldwide

In this episode, we had the pleasure of hosting Michael Holtzman, CEO of Profitable Food Systems Worldwide, to delve into the world of agritourism. Michael has extensive experience consulting with farms, offering valuable insights into the industry. Michael Holtzman has consulted with 50 farms in the last 5 years, gaining unique perspectives and insights into the agritourism operating model. The journey began with Vala's in Omaha, Nebraska, a farm boasting over 300 acres and an impressive 22,000 daily visitors. This farm sets the gold standard in innovation within the industry, with 28 food outlets on the property. The key takeaway is to learn from pioneers like Vala's and understand how they organize and structure their farm. Captive dining emerged as a strategy to optimize the food and beverage offerings, maximizing revenue potential for farms. A compelling analogy was drawn between Disney Land and Disney World, highlighting the importance of strategic planning and layout. A significant challenge faced by farms is the escalating costs associated with delivering wholesale products. Selling retail on the farm directly to consumers presents a viable solution, enabling farmers to achieve profitability and ensure the long-term sustainability of the American farming sector. Agritourism is witnessing exponential growth, yet many farms struggle to price their unique products appropriately. It's crucial for farms to reset their operations and realize their worth to sustainably contribute to this burgeoning sector. Investing approximately $1 million in a new farm to enter this category can yield a quick return on investment (ROI). Another aspect explored is the role of fun farm games in enhancing the visitor experience and revenue generation. Additionally, it was highlighted that Food and Beverage (F&B) offerings can be a significant revenue generator, standing as the second-highest revenue contributor after attendance. A pertinent question raised was: What is the magic number of guests and acreage? This question invites further exploration into the optimal balance of guest numbers and acreage to ensure the farm's success and profitability. You're invited to The Power House Lawyers Retreat! [00:00] Don't miss out on the opportunity to build community and your network! Erin's guest [03:10], Elise, shares her experience and tips on how to do exactly that! As a coach for lawyers, Elise learned that coaches and the business of coaching is plentiful, but coaches specializing in supporting lawyers were virtually non existent 10 years ago [10:10]. Who deserves coaching more than women lawyers juggling it all?    Women have been graduating with degrees in law at higher rates than ever before in the last several years. But leadership roles don't reflect that increase. [16:57] Elise has a theory about this: as children, women are socialized to be good girls, to be perfect. This works as a child, but it is killing our careers! [19:03] So, how do we unlearn these habits that are not fueling our personal and professional goals? [27:07] One of the many keys that Elise mentioned is creating a network of support, whatever that looks like for you! [28:16] Erin ends the conversation with Elise's superpower and words of inspiration to “baby Elise” [44:03].   Burnout and overwhelm may be a part of your everyday life, but it doesn't have to be! Here are five action steps that helped me crawl my way out of the weeds of life and into building the life I wanted and knew I deserved.
