The Jungle - Auburn Basketball Podcast with Matt Donaldson and Jackson Garrett
Auburn's depth and defensive intensity were too much for UNC-Asheville on Wednesday as the Tigers moved to 7-2 with a 87-62 victory at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. Tre Donaldson led the way with 15 points, but our MVP was Chad Baker-Mazara who had 11 second-half points to put the game out of reach and a team-leading 7 rebounds. All 11 players contributed as Auburn's depth was on full display. Now Auburn will return home to host Bronny James and USC on Sunday.

On July 19th 2019, congoers met for the last time at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, AL to enjoy their time at the tenth and final year at North Alabama premiere anime and gaming con, Hama-con. It had been an adventure to get to this point and many a tear were no doubt shed as friends and family parted knowing that they would never meet again in celebration of this convention. Hama-con touched many otaku and non-otaku alike and was a yearly ritual for so many including myself. It is in the spirit of Hama-con and the solidarity of anime fan alike who cannot meet in the hallowed halls of conventions due to the coronavirus that we present to you this interview with Hama-con's director of awesome, Basil, who so generously gave us his time and worked with the convention since its inception. If you're expecting the sort of antics of a traditional OtaMel episode then I'm super sorry but this is an actual interview and one that has a sincere meaning to me. I hope that you'll enjoy it regardless and truly appreciate the times you've had at conventions and look forward to the times that we will have in the future. I'll still be out here keeping the Hama-con spirit alive. We will all carry that weight.

This is the inaugural episode of Music City Scene. In this episode, our guest, left handed guitar playing and gifted songwriter Marc-Alan Barnette recounts his 40+ years as an independent musician. As a first interview for us, this was easy, Marc's stories are unbelievably interesting and give you a great insight to what a life well lived in the music business is about. For more info on Marc, go to:Marc's WebsiteMarc's Facebook (Marc performs on FaceBook Live every Monday and Friday @ 10am central time)Marc's music takes a little bit of everything from classic rock, southern rock, funk, folk, country and more. The one thing that we found that characterizes Marc, especially in his "A Life Well Lived" release is a deep blue-eyed soul sound (you can find and purchase music on his website). He has written over 3,000 songs over his career. He has opened for the bands like, Toby Keith, Frankie Ballard, Restless Heart, Amy Grant and many others. On his first night in Nashville in 1988 he scored his first cut with the artist, Shelby Lynne (who went on to win a Grammy in 2008). Marc is a quintessential professional artist who comes across like he was born to entertain. You can find him playing around town in Nashville as Marc-Alan Barnette the independent musician at places like Whiskey Bent Saloon, The BlueBird Cafe, and The Commodore Bar and Grill, among many others. If you are really lucky, you might have the opportunity to see Marc performing with Dangerous Dan and the Funk Town Horns, click here to go to the website and check the schedule. In 2000, after 12 years on the Nashville music scene, Marc continued to write music (as he does today) and added teaching as a Performer and Songwriting Coach to his already impressive resume. If you have interest in staking your claim in the Music City, reach out to Marc as he works with people like you by introducing you to the Music City Scene by providing tours and writers clinics. We hope you enjoy this interview with Marc, that brings you stories of his life, well lived in Nashville and the music business.Songs by Marc-Alan Barnette from this episode as well as video links to other recordings:At 9:49 in this episode hear and excerpt of "Can't Blame Nobody But Me". RUN In this episode, we talk about training challenges and how to overcome them. Then we ask for your feedback and how you overcome training challenges because in this training week, Dana is coming back from injury and starting back to training slowly. At the same time, Aimee had a long run distance of 14 miles in the heat and humidity of the Florida summer, which presents its own challenges that we all encounter and need to overcome at some point in a training cycle. EAT My cameraman had a work trip to Huntsville a couple of weeks ago. We spent some time around some amazing exhibits at the US Space and Rocket Center. We stayed near the Von Braun Center and Big Spring International Park, which was a great park to run in right outside our hotel. Huntsville has their own Craft Beer Trail that incorporates the fantastic breweries and tap houses we had the opportunity to visit. We flash back to our visit to Below the Radar Brewhouse, where we had some tasty brews and some out of this world Fish and Chips for lunch when we visited the Brewhouse. I actually thought the fish and chips were the stars of our visit. Flaky white fish perfectly cooked and battered in beer batter that was crunchy, a little salty, and perfect with a hit of malt vinegar. It is on the heavier side as an entree, so we would recommend it as a dinner item or to split it if you are having it for lunch, but it is delicious no matter what the time of day. DRINK We had a flight of six original beers while we had the meal and actually saw the brewing process in action while we ate. The beers I had were: Imperial Brown (Brown Ale) 8% ABV Baltic Porter By Robo, Andrew, Alex, and Clint 7.6% ABV Mild Thang (English Mild Ale) 3.5% ABV Strange Wilderness (American Imperial Stout) 9.2% ABV Voodoo Mary Belgian Dubbel 8% ABV Mossy Oats Stout (Oatmeal Stout) 7% ABV THAT’S A WRAP Want to reach us with a tip, trick, or recommendations? QUICK BITE: INNER SPACE BREWING COMPANY My cameraman had a work trip to Huntsville a couple of weeks ago. So many that we could not cover them all on the episodes. In this Quick Bite, we flash back to our visit at Inner Space Brewing Company. Owners Daniel and Nicole Wallace were there and so great to talk to about their original brews! They are so knowledgeable and can recommend just the right beer for you. We did not have to get a flight because we could just order a 5-ounce pour of whatever they had on tap. They even had a beer slushie we could try! We tried these original brews: Leila Lager 5.5% STS Rye Saison 5.5% Key Lime Gose 5.5% Andromeda Stout 7% White Star Wheat 5% Pub Ale 4.75% Dark Skies 8% Blueberry Milkshake 4.75% One of my favorites was the Key Lime Gose! They were all flavorful and worth the trip! We are so glad we went and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area! THAT’S A WRAP Thank you for listening! QUICK BITE: GREEN BUS BREWING My cameraman had a work trip to Huntsville a couple of weeks ago. So many that we could not cover them all on the episodes. In this Quick Bite, we recap Green Bus Brewing. We did a live broadcast from there. We had flights of their tasty original beers, but did you know that they also make meads, ciders, and their own beer cheese with two of their own brews? We tried these in flights: Tiramisu Milk Stout Twickenham London Porter Dominant Red Camper Van Blonde Downtown Julie Brown Their beer cheese is made with their Big Spring IPA and Camper Van Blonde. It was sharp, cheesy, and tangy from the beer. A must when visiting! Their meads, Spiced Orange at 16% and Earl Grey at 14%, pack a PUNCH! But they are tasty, too! Their tap room is so cool too. Such nice and knowledgeable people are behind the bar. Wood floors on two different levels, the brewing setup is upstairs and it is also extra seating or what could be a great place to have meetings. They have the front of a VW Bus over their bar on the first floor and walls that incorporate some beautiful brick. We are so glad we went and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area! RUN My cameraman had a work trip to Huntsville this week. We spent some time around some amazing exhibits at the US Space and Rocket Center. We stayed near the Von Braun Center and Big Spring International Park, which was a great park to run in right outside our hotel. When we travel for work or during a training week, it is important to take all the necessary running gear. This week we talk about what is essential to take with you when traveling to stay on track when you training for a big race. Here are links to some of the gear we talked about in the show this week: Away Travel Luggage and Packing Cubes Exofficio Gear WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU, TOO! If you have a tip for us to share on our next episode about running while traveling or the gear you normally travel with that makes it easier, email us at info@runeatdrink.net or call and leave us a message at 941- 677-2733. EAT Who knew that Huntsville had so many great places to eat! We continue our look at nostalgic places in Huntsville with Pints and Pixels. This place was a throwback to the 1980s, and we loved its theme so much because it took us back to when we were kids because both of us loved pinball and video arcades! But, their kitchen, owned by Anaheim Chili, nails some pretty incredible and spicy food. From appetizers like Chicharrones with Pimento Cheese, Texas Spring Rolls, and Adobo Skirt Steak Skewers to bowls of Pesole and Home-Style Chili plus so many others we did not try. This place knows how to spice things up! DRINK Pints and Pixels also had awesome local brews on tap, as well as top shelf liquor, but what we had to try was their inventive cocktails. Why? They are inspired by and named after some of our favorite video games that we played while growing up. Ms. Pac-Man Power Pellet was my favorite! But they also had a Gin and Sonic, The Frogger, Princess Peach Cosmo, Mario’s Power Up, and Luigi’s Liquid Green. Such a creative menu! THAT’S A WRAP Thank you for listening! As fans of geek and gaming content, one of the most fantastic events that we feel we get to participate in are conventions. Yes, there have been conventions WAY before our crowd started hosting them, but it has always been great to get out from behind our mics, and experience this culture with other like-minded people at large venues each and every year, all while checking out the latest and greatest in games, movies, TV, and more and meeting the actors and entertainers who help make those creations possible. We at Rocket Punch have been to a multitude of conventions since we have started, including BlizzCon, PAX, DragonCon, and more, but one that we have been especially fond of is one home grown right here in our hometown of Huntsville, AL. So when we were given the chance to talk to the creator of this local con, we couldn’t pass up the chance! On this episode of Creator Spotlight, we sit and chat with Jeremy Long, the creator and showrunner of the Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo, a convention run from the Von Braun Center here in Huntsville that showcases and celebrates some of the best in comic, pop culture, and gaming entertainment that we have come to grow up with and love. In the interview, we talk with Jeremy about (literally) EVERYTHING that will be at the show this year, including new events, special guests, and more, to make sure that attendees are fully prepared for the awesome entertainment waiting for them once the doors fly open. Afterwards, we also discuss with Jeremy the work that goes into making the Expo each year, and talk about his motivations for starting the Expo on his own and with little to no experience in running a convention, to some of the successes and hurdles he has run into in getting started, and even how he manages to balance the efforts of putting on such a large show while also taking care of the priorities in his personal life. Plus, we get to drill Jeremy on some of his favorite guests from past shows, who he would love to see attend as guests, and what he hopes to achieve with the Expo in the future. If you are looking to attend the Huntsville Comic and Pop Culture Expo this year, or if you are interested to learn about the work that goes into starting a convention, then be sure to listen to what is likely one of our longest episodes so that you don’t miss a thing on the show floor!
