The VW Bus, in its many forms, has become one of the most recognizable vehicles in the company's history. Sure, it might be second to the VW Beetle, but even that might be a close race. While the bus has been out of production for decades for use in the U.S. market, the folks at VW showed off a battery-electric concept in 2016 dubbed BUDD-e. Of course, wiser heads prevailed, and the concept van was updated and given a new name in 2017: ID. Buzz. Of course, it would be a while before the ID. Buzz hit U.S. shores, but a successor to the VW Bus is finally showing up on U.S. streets. The '25 VW ID. Buzz rides on the brand's MEB platform and packs a 91-kWh battery pack under its floor. This podcast for On the Brink with Andi Simon is about how Sue Willoughby helps women over 40 transform their lives using her approach, Equus Coaching.Sue Willoughby is on a mission to help women over 40 tackle their challenges and build better lives. Through her business, Willoughby Coaching, she uses a unique method called Equus Coaching, where clients work with horses to learn more about themselves. These sessions focus on non-verbal communication, leadership, and personal growth, helping women make big changes in their lives. Sue Willoughby's Journey to Equus Coaching has not been Easy Sue's journey hasn't been easy. She grew up with a single parent who struggled with alcoholism. This taught her to be strong and face tough situations, even when she didn't feel confident. Coming out as gay at 17 was another challenge, and by 19, she faced such deep struggles that she attempted suicide. For a while, her life felt like it was spinning out of control. Things turned around in the 1990s when Sue met her partner. They moved across the country, and Sue started to rebuild her life. She went back to school, found a new career, bought a home, and became a real estate investor. During this time, she reconnected with her love for horses, which had always been a source of comfort during tough times. Her Goal is to Guide Other Women Today, Sue uses what she's learned to guide others. Through Equus Coaching, she helps women understand themselves better and overcome what's holding them back. Horses, she says, are amazing teachers because they respond to how we act and feel, even when we don't say a word. Sue also practices what she teaches. She's done all kinds of exciting things, like being a DJ, stand-up comedian, actor, pilot, and Roller Derby referee. These experiences help her connect with her clients, showing them how stepping out of their comfort zones can lead to amazing growth. I speak with director Spencer Glover about his experience with Disney as a participant in their coveted Launchpad program. Selected from more than 2000 applicants, the longtime Nashville filmmaker spent a year in the incubator, honing his skills under the auspices of industry execs.The experience culminated in his Disney directorial debut BLACK BELTS, a coming of age Kung Fu story you can watch right now on Disney+. Black Belts went on to win a 2024 NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Performance in a Short Form Series. Prior to the Launchpad experience Spencer created several films focused on stories that blend genre elements and grounded emotional characters. Larry the younger brother has a 56 Oval hes driving to highschool. in 1984 he pulls it apart for a restoration. The car never get put back together unitll the early 2000's. Its ultimatly featured in Hot VW's . The Drag car is eventually sold to Collector / enthusiest Russell Ritchie. The 1972 EMPI was sold to filter dynamics. Just before that happened Darrell Vittone started the race shop which was a separate entity from the VW dealership. One day some kid from the East Coast is peering through the window and Darrel sees him. Darrel opens the door and meets Dave Andrews these two for the next few years campaign the inch pincher plus the race shop cars. Everywhere the race shop went there was Dave Andrews campaigning his own 1967 beetle that he purchased brand new. Hear his story about his move out west and also the evolution of his personal car that eventually turned into a straight race car. Way back in the summer of 2021, one month before embarking on the trip of a lifetime in our 1979 VW Bus, we called into the flagship show of Happy Productions—a Wednesday night program called The Happy Trucker Show. Now, with the trip behind us, we decided to revisit the interview and run some commentary on our past selves. 

Does a bus need a name? How did our bus, Adie, get her name? Can you rename a bus? We get to all those questions and more in this episode. 

Carson is a professional musician with a story to share. For him, the VW bus is an emotional journey that has come to define his relationship with his father. 

The VW bus runs on gasoline and luck, but the inhabitants are often fueled by coffee (as is the case with us). Before we got into the VW part of the interview with Carson we geeked out about coffee and fine wristwatches. And, we gotta say, this guy knows his stuff. 

Back in 2018, James and Miranda put their bus, Adie, up for sale on eBay. An unwitting guy from Ohio named Ryan Ireland would buy this bus and later produce a podcast called, “So You Owned a VW Bus.” It's only fitting that the penultimate episode of the series be with with Miranda and James as they talk about their journey with Adie and the guy from Ohio who bought it. 

Bonnie Larsen bought her bus as her marriage of many years was ending. Working on the bus and becoming part of the greater VW community helped her heal and move on, she says. As part of her journey, she opened up an online store, ToolMomStore.com   

Amanda and Matt Hakola have owned a few buses before finally finding their current bus and landing in Oklahoma. Their bus is also the mothership for their business Ragtag Resilience—an approach to stabilizing food systems by doing a lot of little things that add up to change. (They farm their .15 acres and grow lots of amazing foods to feed their family and sell at market.) Their business caught the eye of Leonardo DiCaprio's personal chef during on-location filming  of Martin Scorsese's “Killers of the Flower Moon" and led to Amanda and Matt catering the film's wrap party.
