With UNC football beating South Carolina football, and Duke football running past Clemson football, the State of North Carolina dominated the State of South Carolina, with two "basketball schools" beating two "football schools." Producer Dennis Cox tells Tim Donnelly how he ended up with former Duke basketball star, and Dallas Maverick's draft pick, Dereck Lively's sneaker when the Duke fans rushed the field at Wallace-Wade Stadium. Duke football upset Clemson football, 28-7, that saw the Blue Devils take advantage of the Tigers' mistakes, but also saw Clemson and head coach Dabo Swinney fail to take advantage of their own opportunities.

It's not Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, Leaky Black, or RJ Davis taking down future #1 overall pick Paolo Banchero and sending Coach K into retirement, but the Tar Heels once again have a chance to knock off the Blue Devils on Saturday and take another step forward in the ACC football standings. The Tar Heels come into the game 5-1, 2-0 while the Blue Devils are 4-2, 1-1. Carolina and Drake Maye will be looking for a victory at Wallace Wade Stadium which will get them to bowl eligibility, give themselves the inside track at the ACC Coastal, and likely move into the AP Top 25 when it refreshes next week (currently 26th). The Carolina offense continues to church along – currently eighth nationally in both total offense and points per game. Duke, however, has been able to hold its opponents under 20 points a game. On this episode of the Duke Basketball Report Podcast, we start with Dariq Whitehead, who is expected to be one of Duke's best players this season, and who unfortunately went down with a broken foot last week. While we try to ward off the evil spirits that seem to haunt Duke Basketball players' lower extremities, we also try to find the silver lining in this news. Whitehead likely won't miss more than one or two conference games, and with the whole ACC season available for Whitehead to learn the offense better, he should be in great shape by February and March. Further, this forces Jon Scheyer to be a bit more creative with the rest of the lineup. We can't even fully agree on whose playing time might be most positively affected by the news. After a quick discussion on Class of 2023 forward TJ Power and his potential pending commitment to Duke or one of its rivals, we get to the surprisingly strong result on the football field from Friday night, when Duke beat Temple 30-0 in front of an opening night crowd at Wallace Wade Stadium. Mike Elko appears to have brought a few defensive tricks to Durham, and Riley Leonard had an awesome night in his first start, completing his first 15 pass attempts and leading the team on multiple impressive scoring drives.
