In this episode of Black Is America, we highlight the groundbreaking journey of Doug Williams, the first Black quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl. From his early days in Zachary, Louisiana, to Grambling State under legendary coach Eddie Robinson, to breaking barriers in the NFL, Williams' career is a testament to resilience, intelligence, and excellence. But Williams' path was anything but easy. Systemic racism, underestimation, and financial disparity sought to hold him back. Yet, he persevered, ultimately delivering one of the greatest performances in Super Bowl history. This episode explores not only Doug Williams' impact but the long-standing biases Black quarterbacks faced in professional football. We also highlight historical figures like Fritz Pollard and pivotal moments in sports history that paved the way for today's generation of Black quarterbacks.
This is a weird game, that means the game plan should mirror that. Mitch Holthus joins the show and we talk pro football reference pages.
The Ravens win the HarBowl and the Eagles bully the Rams. Plus, a crazy morning window of football including asking 'why' on behalf of Bears fans and a Pro-Football-Reference masterpiece game in Commanders-Cowboys.

The O'Leary Review Podcast Guest: Raphael Juarez Show notes available: https://briandoleary.substack.com/p/developing-a-mindset-sales-coaching?sd=pf I had the pleasure of welcoming sales development specialist Rafe Juarez on the show. Specializing in tech startups, Raphael has engaged with a variety of stakeholders from executives in Fortune 500 companies to athletic directors and trainers at major universities to Major League Sports. Some researchers also include the opposite effect for high performers: their tendency to underestimate their skills. In popular culture, the Dunning–Kruger effect is often misunderstood as a claim about general overconfidence of people with low intelligence instead of specific overconfidence of people unskilled at a particular task. Burrow attended Ohio State (but in two seasons at LSU, he led the Tigers to the National Championship in Heisman Trophy-winning 2019 campaign). Brady went to U of Michigan. He won 7 Super Bowls and is widely considered the greatest pro quarterback in history. Perhaps, instead, I should have mentioned the great Earl Morrall, Brian Hoyer, Tony Banks, or Kirk Cousins. Sad and upsetting news broke just before we recorded: All-Pro cornerback and NFL free agent Richard Sherman was arrested for "burglary domestic assault." Besides his time with the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, Sherman is a player leader with the NFLPA. The Three & Out crew breaks down everything we know, and what it means.Luke Easterling of Draft Wire & Bucs Wire becomes our first three-time guest, talking the 2020 & 2022 draft classes, as well as the Bucs' prospects in the NFC South this year. Finally, we talk about Pro Football Reference adopting historical sack data, making Al "Bubba" Baker the single-season sack king, and whether Isaac Bruce & Torry Holt were better than Randy Moss & Cris Carter.
When discussing the best Seahawks in franchise history, Jacob Green's name rarely gets mentioned. But with revised unofficial sack statistics thanks to Pro Football Reference, fans may see the former star defensive end in a different light. Hosts Corbin Smith and Rob Rang revisit Green's illustrious career and how new data puts him squarely in the discussion with Seattle's best players, break down the cornerback group in part two of their training camp preview, and continue their 90-player countdown with DK Metcalf and Duane Brown.
