We discuss: Bo is turning around a Youth Sports Complex that was losing millions/year. “Never skip a funeral and always hold a baby” Investment updates across nuclear energy, asteroid mining, robotics, and batteries. Why enthusiasm, networks, and timing matter so much in early-stage investing. Quotes from Bo: "This was like 11 businesses stuffed into one building… and none of them were working yet." "My job right now is teaching people who love what they do how it fits into a business." "We get 2 to 3 calls a week from private equity firms, and I tell them all: don't do it." "It's a 600-person organization… a real thing with real complexity." "Maybe it's a $30 million business—manageable, understandable, and ridiculously high impact." "It's a cartel-organized market. You need to be a trusted actor to even play in it." "Helping it really succeed is time well spent—for Kansas City, for the kids, and for everyone here." "The youth sports market is a $40 to $80 billion space, and it's on fire." "There's not a lot of credible business builders in this space—and I haven't found another one yet." "In 50 years, this will be even more awesome. I love working on stuff like that." Quotes from Al: "You couldn't just copy-paste this business into another city. You need deep trust and local knowledge." "This is a fun community challenge. If you get it right, you leave a real legacy." "I texted Bo—‘We did it'—because Eric and Jeannine had a baby. That's how we all felt." "The bond between dad and baby isn't immediate. But it grows—and it's worth it." "I fixed the cheeseburger at Home Field before Bo was even involved." "Once you have a baby, every infant photo becomes magic." "The best underappreciated part of being an entrepreneur? You can get your kids working early." Important Quotes from the podcast on Business and Entrepreneurship There is no skill called “business.” Avoid business magazines and business classes. - Naval Ravikant You have to work up to the point where you can own equity in a business. You could own equity as a small shareholder where you bought stock. You could also own it as an owner where you started the company. Ownership is really important. Everybody who really makes money at some point owns a piece of a product, a business, or some IP. That can be through stock options if you work at a tech company. That's a fine way to start.

Thomasville opens its season Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Leroy at D.F. Anderson Field in a battle of perennial powers in their respective classes. The Class 3A Tigers are coming off an 11-1 campaign which ended with a second-round playoff loss to Houston Academy. The Class 1A Bears finished 10-2 with a second-round loss to Georgiana. Thomasville won last year's game 35-0 and leads the series 38-14-1. Tigers coach Clint Anderson said after a 20-13 preseason win over Millry that his team had a solid summer but still must improve in several areas. “I felt like we did...Article Link
The Giants may be a bad team after all. They followed up a historic winless six game homestand with a 4-2 roadtrip, and came right back home and lost five of six, meaning the Giants have lost 13 of their last 14 at home. They last time the franchise did that was 1940 in New York. They are below .500 for the season, on the road, and at home. Their only winning month is April. Their second half is atrocious, and they are 18-33 since being tied for first with the Dodgers on June 13. This is their fourth consecutive season of having a winning record in the first half, followed by a second half collapse. Visions of the postseason snatched away by ineptitude of the summer. But why? What is happening? The players don't know, BoMel doesn't know, but we all know that they stink and they have for quite some time. Their hitting is near the league bottom, they can't hit with runners in scoring position, and they are striking out at a prodigious rate. And don't get us started on the physical and mental errors on the field and basepaths (we're talking about you, Ramos!)With 41 games left, the Giants' postseason chances are essentially zero. What can we look forward to? An Eldridge call up? For Logan Webb to regain his composure? For Melvin to stop being so passive with his coaching and maybe light a fire under their collective asses? At least the anxiety of watching the Giants in the postseason won't be a reality, but when we look back, we realize that we've only experienced that anxiety one time in the last nine seasons. Their glory days are far behind them and may not be getting any closer to rekindling them if management doesn't find a solution soon.www.torturecast.com@torturecastfacebook.com/torturecast

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! On this final episode of 2024 the Listen Local crew goes BIG and talks all things Vikings with a former Vikings Pro Bowl Linebacker and a long-time Twin Cities Sports Director! With the Vikings beating the Packers this past weekend, they now head to Detroit in arguably not only the biggest regular season game in franchise history, but also in NFL History. Both teams are 14 and 2 and the winner of this Sunday's game against the Lions will be the number 1 seed and will have Home Field advantage throughout the playoffs. Vikings games mean so much to so many people and businesses around the BLA and all over MN, which is why the crew wanted to have this Vikings-centric show. The first guest on today's show is none other than former KARE 11 Sports Director Eric Perkins to talk about not only this year's team, but also reminisce on past seasons. Perk also tells the crew what some of his favorite memories cover the Vikings are. After Perk, Vikings Legend Chad Greenway joined the show. Chad, who had been on the show in the past, talks with Isaiah and Jacob for quite some time about everything from his thoughts on how far this year's team can go, to similarities he sees between them and the '09 team he was on that made it to the Conference Finals, to thoughts on coaching and culture. Before we let Chad go we had to talk to him about what it is like being a fan now of his daughters who are some of the best high school basketball players in the State. He also chats about his partnership with Ziegler Cat and running his hobby farm. As always, thanks to Chad for joining and Skol Vikes! Lastly... THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OF OUR LISTENERS IN 2024! Thursday's 7am hour of Mac & Cube began with the guys looking to the first College Football Playoff game and asking what the biggest concern is for Notre Dame; then, Cole & Greg ask if the home teams will actually feel a home field advantage in the CFP; later, Greg thinks he might want a steroids body; and finally, looking at Clemson vs. Texas, we try to find a sliver of optimism for the Tigers. Title: Home Alone Series: Homefield - Peter's Letter to Exiles Passage: 1 Peter 5:1-5 When you were a kid, how did it feel to be left Home Alone? Did you enjoy staying behind at the house, feeling an exciting sense of independence and maturity? Or was it scary to have to fend for yourself and be on your own? Do you still find the idea of sleeping in an empty house unsettling as an adult?! Being home alone can certainly leave us feeling anxious and uncomfortable. Jesus is building a family, a household of faith. We know He will come back for us…but until then, are we home alone? Are we left to fend for ourselves and figure it out until He returns? Peter shows us that Jesus has left more than just some money on the counter and a key under the mat for his people. We discover His plan to care and provide for His family this week in our latest installment of Home Field.

Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner are red hot in MLB betting. The guys preview the entire Wednesday MLB Playoff card. They also give out more winning best bets. Introduction: Host (Manaf Manji): Introduces the podcast (0:09) and explains a scheduling change allowing for discussions on all four MLB playoff series (0:09-0:51). Griffin Warner: Acknowledges a profitable playoff season, reflecting on the regular season's success (0:52-1:08). Discussion Highlights: Orioles vs. Royals (0:27): Manaf: Mentions Griffin's prediction on the under for the Orioles-Royals series, highlighting a dominant Royals pitching performance that limited the Orioles to three total runs. Griffin: Notes the Royals advanced without any overs, indicating the defensive strength that helped the Royals (1:25-1:26). Impact of Home Field & Umpiring: Griffin: Discusses the significance of home-field advantage, mentioning all series being tied 1-1. He emphasizes the challenge for teams with no extra-innings games played thus far, noting the importance of "last at bats" and competent umpires (2:55-4:06). Umpiring is critical, with Griffin noting that umpires are calling more strikes than usual, making it harder to score runs. Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Guardians (Game 3 Prediction): Pitcher Analysis: Detroit's pitching strategy, led by Bo Brisky, is likely to challenge the Guardians, who rely on Alex Cobb, who hasn't pitched in a postseason game since 2013 (4:54-9:48). Griffin: Suggests the Tigers have an advantage with AJ Hinch's managerial experience and bullpen depth. Manaf: Underscores Cobb's long gap between playoff appearances and suggests that the Tigers' ability to string hits together could carry them through. Phillies vs. Mets (Game 4 Prediction): Mets Confidence: The Mets lead the series 2-1, and Griffin discusses their momentum and superior bullpen despite flaws (12:36-14:51). Player Performance: Manaf highlights the strong recent performances of Mets' pitcher Jose Quintana and Phillies' Ranger Suarez during the regular season. Quintana's solid 7-inning shutout against the Phillies is noted (14:52-17:25). Both predict a low-scoring game, favoring the under in the first five innings. Yankees vs. Royals (Game 3 Prediction): Griffin: Expresses skepticism about the Yankees' ability to win on the road, emphasizing the importance of playoff baseball strategies like aggressive baserunning (stealing bases) and capitalizing on every opportunity (17:26-22:16). Manaf: Points out the underwhelming postseason performance of Aaron Judge, particularly his high strikeout rate (21:02-22:15). Both lean toward betting on the Royals and another under bet due to the tight defense and pitchers' performance. Dodgers vs. Padres (Game 4 Prediction): Griffin: Stresses the significance of the Dodgers' struggling pitching rotation, with Landon Knack stepping in due to key injuries (26:36-31:26). He expects a high-scoring game but predicts that the Padres' strong bullpen will help them close the series. Manaf: Agrees, predicting early runs and suggesting a first five innings bet on the over as the best strategy. Betting Advice and Best Bets: Griffin's Best Bet: Tigers to win at home, citing a mismatch between Cobb's long layoff and the Tigers' efficient bullpen management (32:06-32:55). Manaf's Best Bet: Under four runs in the first five innings of the Phillies-Mets game, betting on solid starting pitching from Quintana and Suarez (32:55-34:37). Conclusion: The episode ends with a reflection on the successful season, with Griffin and Manaf thanking their listeners and promoting a pregame.com discount (34:37-36:19). Both express optimism for continued success in predicting playoff outcomes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Title: We're Gonna Make It Series: Homefield - Peter's Letter to Exiles Passage: 1 Peter 1:1-12 Have you ever been to a game where your team was the home team? It's electric! As you sing, cheer, and clap with thousands of people wearing the same color as you, you can feel – “I belong here! These are my people.” Now, if you've ever been to an away game, you know…it's a bit of a different story. You stand out. You're often alone in your cheering, drawing the hostile glares of those around you. Sometimes it can even be outright dangerous. It makes a big difference to have the Home Field. What do you do when you are living for Jesus and you don't have the Home Field advantage? How do you handle being surrounded by those with values and convictions opposite to yours? How do we handle it when our convictions and values find us not in the popular majority but in the unpopular minority? To answer this question, we turn to Peter's first letter to followers of Jesus living out an unpopular fight amid the Roman Empire. Don't miss it as we start this new series: Home Field.
