Douglas Palmer, the 11th President of Siena Heights University began his term on July 1, 2023. He comes to Siena Heights from Culver-Stockton College in Missouri, where he served as President. As president of Culver-Stockton, Palmer guided the college through the COVID pandemic while adding a number of high-demand programs designed to meet the needs of the local workforce. He secured a gift of more than $1 million to make Culver-Stockton the permanent home of the Tri-State Development Summit, an economic development organization covering 36 counties and three states. He expanded programs to meet local workforce needs, including establishing new majors in agricultural business and data analytics. Palmer has a strong belief that a high-quality private education should be accessible for all students. He was a non-traditional student himself, earning his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville following an enlistment as an active-duty soldier and paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He used the G.I. Bill to fund his undergraduate education and subsequently earned full tuition scholarships to pursue graduate work. He completed his Ph.D. in history at The Ohio State University where he won a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to study in the Netherlands. He was also awarded the Presidential Fellowship given to the 25 top dissertation writers in the university. Palmer started his career at Walsh University, a Catholic university in North Canton, Ohio teaching world history where he became chair of the Humanities Division. His interest in helping students prepare for an interconnected world and global economy through the lens of Catholic social teaching led him to establish Walsh's global learning program. Founder of Walsh's campus in Rome, Italy, Palmer oversaw programs in Europe, Latin America and Africa. He worked with students to lead Walsh's efforts in Universities Fighting World Hunger and attended a United Nations charter signing event in which higher education leaders from around the world pledged to direct the teaching and research efforts of modern colleges and universities to solve global hunger. In addition, he worked with local leaders and healthcare institutions as Provost to create programs which served the needs of the local community. He led the efforts to create a fully online nurse practitioner program in mental health and addictions treatment and a Master's in Occupational Health to better serve Ohio's healthcare needs. As a researcher, Palmer has published and spoken often about law, politics and religion, particularly in the context of the American and French Revolutions. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Emory University School of Law. He is also recognized as a leader in the field of international education where he served as the Chair of the Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship committee for NAFSA: the Association of International Educators. He has worked with higher education leaders around the world, having led workshops and training on global learning to national and international audiences. Palmer and his wife (Cathy) are both natives of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and they have three boys. Palmer has completed a full marathon and five half-marathons and is an avid fly fisherman.

Larissa Malone, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Social and Cultural Foundations of Education in the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). Before joining UNCW, she was an Associate Professor and Chair of the Teacher Education Department at the University of Southern Maine and an Assistant Professor at Greenville University. Dr. Malone earned a doctorate in Cultural Foundations of Education at Kent State University, a MA in Education from Walsh University, and a BA in International Studies from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Malone also holds a primary teacher certification from the American Montessori Internationale and taught early childhood and early elementary grades, as well as served as an administrator in a bilingual community-based school, before joining the ranks of higher education. Dr. Malone's research centers on the minoritized experience in schooling, inclusive of students, parents, and teachers, and has published in The Journal of Negro Education, Educational Studies, and The Journal of Critical Race Inquiry. She is particularly interested in the intersection of education, race, and tangential disciplines, such as religion, geography, social reproduction, critical race followership, and critical race mothering. Dr. Malone founded Maine Black Educators Collective, a grant-funded organization that holds the mission of supporting Black educators through educational opportunities, social-emotional connection, and advocacy, and received the inaugural Maine Education Association's 2022 Human and Civil Rights Award for this initiative, as well as grants from the National Education Association Foundation, Maine Initiative's Grants for Change, and the Nellie Mae Education Foundation. Dr. Malone's greatest joys are spending time with her family, playing/watching tennis, reading, and politics. Over at the White House, former President Trump says his recent indictment was "a sad day for Americans." As the Republican front runner entered a not guilty plea amid federal charges related to the 2020 election. On the pro-life front, victory abounds as a federal judge has granted an injunction to halt Illinois governor Jamie Pritzker's new law targeting pregnancy resource centers. The Thomas More Society requested the injunction. This brings a sigh of relief for pro-lifers in the fight to restore full rights to life and life eternal. Meanwhile, a week has passed since an American missionary and her daughter were kidnapped by a criminal ransom gang in Haiti. Lester Munson, Senior Fellow at the National Security Institute, joins us to discuss the ongoing political instability, gang violence, and hunger that plague the small island nation, and comments on how the U.S. can intervene in the increasing kidnapping problem. Lastly, tonight, following a new report which says that 14,000 pilots are needed for commercial, military, and cargo planes, Walsh University, a Catholic school in Ohio, is partnering with a flight school in Akron to fight the problem. During the height of the pandemic in November 2020, an idea came to Joe Knopp in his Walsh University dorm room. He asked his roommate, Chip, “Do you think that we could solve the world water crisis?” Fast forward to today, Ripple has built 20 wells that provide communities with clean water with Joe and Chip at the helm. Ripple is a water bottle company whose mission is to solve the world's water problem. With every 2000 bottles sold, a community in need receives a well that provides clean water. In this episode, our guest Shelly Williams who owns iCRYO in Canton, shares her career journey. Shelly received her master's from Walsh University and worked in Health Care Administration for many years. She said that she was feeling burned out, losing her purpose and wanted a change, especially after working with elderly patients in long term care facilities during Covid. She said that this field wore her out mentally and emotionally and she felt frustrated when her elderly patients couldn't see their family members at their end of life. She began to think of how to change her career and went to Google to research options. She wanted a career that would relate to healthcare but would be more proactive, uplifting and preventative. This was a huge change, but she didn't let fear hold her back. She found information on iCRYO and decided to take the leap of faith. She signed the contract to open an iCRYO in Canton in 2020 and then opened in 2021. Listen and learn how to grow and evolve no matter what age you are.
