Join me as I sit down with Jeff Watkins, a 2004 state champion and a Davis High School Hall of Famer, to explore the dynamic real estate market of Southern Utah. Ever wondered if we're heading toward a real estate bubble in Washington County? We explore this question while sharing a lighthearted conversation about childhood dreams and our mutual love for hot dogs. Jeff and I even dive into the local sports scene, reminiscing about the football season and the buzz surrounding Utah Tech's first year in the Western Athletic Conference. Our discussion turns to the latest market trends, where sellers seem to have the upper hand. With an average sold price increase of 6% and the median price up by 3%, we dissect what's at play. From bustling developments in Zone Six to the potential impacts of the PGA Championship, there's a lot reshaping Southern Utah's landscape. We also touch on mortgage intricacies, such as why bond markets matter more than the Federal Reserve's moves, and explore innovative ideas like listing homes with potential monthly payments.Lastly, we tackle the challenges homebuyers face with rising costs and limited inventory. With fewer homes available than in previous years, we discuss the implications of increasing construction costs and the impact of remote workers with higher incomes moving into the area. As we explore new developments like the expansion of St. George Airport and the proposed Northern Corridor project, we consider the balance between development and conservation, reflecting on the unique environmental and political challenges that lie ahead.Find admission to HAC 3rd Annual Attainable Housing Forum here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hac-3rd-annual-attainable-housing-forum-tickets-1000526360277Looking for a Real Estate expert? UTSA continued to struggle against opponents from the Western Athletic Conference as the Abilene Christian Wildcats defeated the Roadrunners for the second straight year. A stellar relief appearance from Braylon Owens went to waste as UTSA fell 3-4. The Roadrunners now hold a losing record on the season as Northwestern travels to the Bird Bath for what should be a challenging series.

When it comes to the Drews, basketball is in their blood. You'd be hard-pressed to find a family with more years of coaching experience than Homer Drew and his sons, Scott and Bryce. Homer coached for 41 years at a number of schools, including a long stint at Valparaiso University from 1988-2011, aside from the 2002-03 season when Scott served as head coach. It was there that, in 1998, Homer led the 13th-seeded Crusaders to their first-ever Sweet 16 appearance, a run that included one of the signature moments in NCAA Tournament history when Bryce hit a buzzer-beater to knock off fourth-seeded Ole Miss in the opening round. Scott spent nine seasons as an assistant at Valparaiso before taking over as head coach and winning the regular-season conference title. He then took over as head coach of Baylor University, where he won the 2021 NCAA championship and has been named the Big 12 Coach of the Year three times. Homer came out of retirement to return as head coach at Valparaiso until he handed over the job to Bryce in 2011. Bryce remained in that job until becoming the head coach at Vanderbilt University in 2016. He now serves as the head coach at Grand Canyon University, where in 2021 he guided the program to its first Western Athletic Conference regular season and conference championships, and thus its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Faith has guided all three of them in their coaching careers, and their relationship with Scott Linebrink goes back to the days at Valparaiso. They join Scott this week on “Get in the Game” to reflect on their careers, the joy they get in coaching, and how they try to reflect God in their careers. "Get in the Game" is part of the Sports Spectrum Podcast Network. If you enjoyed this conversation, we know you'll enjoy these as well:— Cody Allen – Former MLB Pitcher— Tyler Toney & Garrett Hilbert – Dude Perfect— Lance Berkman – MLB Veteran & Houston Baptist Coach

Big Monday was once a big thing for the Western Athletic Conference. You know, those late Monday tip-offs between Utah and BYU. Or San Diego State-BYU and so forth. Sellout crowds at the various arenas where the game was broadcast as part of ESPN's Big Monday and Super Tuesday games. Those were a blast. And in a wild twist of fate, the WAC gets a Big Monday once again. Okay, the games won't be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks like they were in the 1990's, early 2000's. But, it is a Big Monday nonetheless. At least for the Sam Houston Bearkats and the Seattle U Redhawks. The Bearkats and the Redhawks are the lone unbeaten teams in the WAC. Sam Houston is 6-0. Seattle U is 5-0. And both have big time matchups on Big Monday. Sam Houston is generating a lot of buzz early in 2022-23. The Bearkats have wins at Oklahoma and at Utah and just smoked Northern Illinois and South Dakota at the Fort Myers Tip-Off. Monday night at the Lawlor Center, the Bearkats have another opportunity to make a statement. Nevada has already beat three WAC schools in Utah Tech, GCU and UT Arlington. And it is another opportunity for a KenPom top-100 win for the Bearkats. Seattle U is led by Cam Tyson who is one of the top scorers in the country. The Redhawks swept Portland State and Portland. But, Seattle U is looking to solidify its start when they take on Washington on Monday night. Give a listen to the podcast episode to hear what Jason Hooten and Chris Victor had to say about tonight's Big Monday games. Today we're going to talk with retired Western Athletic Conference commissioner Jeff Hurd about where college hoops has been and where it could be going.Jeff spent nearly 5 decades in college athletics, beginning with a stint as the sports information director at the University of Tulsa before serving as the director of public relations for the Missouri Valley Conference. The Missouri grad spent his last 37 years, however, with the Western Athletic Conference, the last 10 as its commissioner, and in that time the WAC might have undergone as much change as any Division I conference. Jeff joins us today to discuss his memories of the Missouri Valley Conference, when a Larry Bird-led Indiana State team charged into the national title game in 1979, to his favorite college basketball moments over the last 40-plus years before we get his thoughts on the future of college hoops amid major changes in the collegiate athletics landscape.Jeff, thanks for joining us on the 19nine podcast. It's that week again. The week that prior to last Thursday, everyone was hoping was going to be the biggest game in the Western Athletic Conference in a long time. But, it's the wild, wild WAC and things change. Both New Mexico State and Grand Canyon got beat up pretty bad on Thursday. The Aggies and Lopes both lost by 25 points at Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin. And for good measure, Grand Canyon lost at Sam Houston on Saturday while New Mexico State beat Stephen F. Austin. So, now both the Lopes and Aggies go head-to-head on Saturday in Las Cruces. It is a must-win situation for the Lopes according to Adam Young. And for the Aggies, they haven't lost a WAC game at home under Chris Jans. So, something has to give. Here is the preview, thoughts and some hot takes on this weekly episode of New Mexico State basketball.

It's a Tuesday edition of the WAC Hoops Mailbag. Although that isn't how it's referenced in the episode, fans' questions about WAC hoops are answered as best they can be. WAC expansion which has blown up over the past 24 hours is featured. Sources are saying that Southern Utah, Sam Houston State, Lamar, Abilene Christian and Stephen F. Austin are joining the WAC. This would mean that college football is returning to the Western Athletic Conference. Problem is the WAC would have to bring on another school to make it an 8-team football conference in order to keep the automatic bid to the FCS playoffs. Tarleton State and Dixie State are not eligible for the playoffs for another three years. So, there is still a huge issue related to conference expansion. However, adding those five schools would strengthen WAC Hoops immensely. There are some really good non-conference games against non-P5 schools. Games against Southern Utah, Wyoming, Utah State, San Francisco, Nevada, Sam Houston State and so forth are all good matchups for WAC schools. The WAC needs to win games against teams with similar statures in order to increase the conference ranking. Follow us on Twitter at @wachoopsdigest and go to our Facebook page and give it a like. Head coach Jon Judkins joined the podcast to talk about his 2020-21 squad. The Trailblazers have seven new players highlighted by big man Mikey Frazier and true freshman Andre Mulibea. Frazier is 6'11, 250 pounds who averaged 14.2 points and 5.3 rebounds at Garden City Community College in 2019-20. Mulibea was a Utah class 5-A first team selection and region MVP at East High School in Salt Lake City. Mulibea averaged 24.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for the Leopards and Judkins is really high on him. Facilities, preparation, fan excitement and more are reasons why Dixie State is ready to compete at the highest level. The Burns Arena might be one of the best in the WAC. And, with the excitement surrounding the jump to Division I, Judkins expects it to be filled on a nightly basis. This is especially true when the renewal of the I-15 rivalry with Utah Valley tips off in conference play. Both schools competed in the same conference at the JUCO level and have played a few exhibition games over the years. Judkins is also excited that the other Division I schools in the state of Utah want to play the Trailblazers. Dixie State has Weber State, Utah State and Southern Utah all on the schedule for 2020-21. Dason Youngblood is the floor leader by example, according to Judkins. Youngblood averaged 10.1 points and 4.1 rebounds in 2019-20. But, according to an article on the Dixie State Athletics website, Youngblood is a team leader in an untraditional way. And along with teammate Hunter Schofield, will bring some great experience and leadership to the Trailblazers as they open up the Division I era. Last but not least, Jon Judkins does not have an ongoing battle with older brother Jeff as to who wins more games in their coaching careers. Jeff Judkins is the women's basketball coach at BYU. Both brothers support each other and try to keep the basketball conversations away from family gatherings. “Boy, I’m glad it’s over. I’m glad we don’t have practice this week or next week.” I’ve never seen a coach so openly defeated after a loss. There’s no stoicism here, no talk about being proud of his players, no looking forward to next year. There’s no energy left for that. Here is the great Jerry Tarkanian, a coach I’m used to seeing emanate such intensity that he has to bite on a towel during games, and boy, he’s just glad it’s over. It’s one of the final scenes from Between The Madness, the 1998 documentary following the Fresno State men’s basketball team over the entirety of their disastrous season that year. A baby faced Andy Katz is standing with Tarkanian, looking in this moment more like a friend lending an ear than a sports reporter for the Fresno Bee. The two are in the bowels of Madison Square Garden after Tarkanian’s team lost a heartbreaker in the NIT. It feels like a private moment between the two, but there’s an unseen third party holding the camera, peering at Tark’s exhausted looking face from around Katz’s shoulder. Whoever holds that camera spent the better part of their year watching from close distance as the team broke apart in headline grabbing fashion. As I watch this scene I wonder if that person is glad it’s over, too.Fresno State entered that season with a loaded roster predicted to make the Elite 8 by Sports Illustrated. Tarkanian assembled an unprecedented amount of talent for a Western Athletic Conference team with four players that would go on to play in the NBA, and more that had the potential to. Despite their talent the team never found consistency due to player suspensions for violations as trivial as smoking weed, as serious as domestic assault, and as unbelievable as threatening with a samurai sword. So much s**t hit the fan in Fresno that Mike Wallace brought his 60 Minutes crew to campus to file an expose on the program. I have to link to Wallace’s GOTCHYA segment on the program here, not because it’s good, but because it’s a chance to hear Mike Wallace muster up all his 60 Minutes gravitas to say the phrase “White (blanking) honkey b***h.”Between The Madness first aired on Fox Sports One on Thanksgiving, 1998. The film’s producers agreed not to show NCAA violations (Fresno State would later vacate wins for the following season and the two after that), but otherwise had creative control and unprecedented access to the team for the duration of their season. The resulting raw behind the scenes feel was jarring to me as a modern viewer accustomed to careful brand curation that has a firm grasp on modern sports media. Before watching this film I didn’t realize how thoroughly conditioned my expectations have become by our era of Players’ Tribune, sportswriters guaranteeing brand-friendly coverage in exchange for access, broadcasters employed by the team, and player produced documentaries. There are some similarities to The Last Dance, the docuseries that drew millions of viewers when it aired on ESPN earlier this year and now lives as a binge friendly hit on Netflix. Both make use of beyond the norm access to tell the inside story of a season, and incidentally both had cameras rolling in the same time of the same year. The differences are more interesting. While Dance uses interviews taking place in our time to look back, in Madness the viewer is trapped in the moment with no faces from the future guaranteeing a happy ending. Dance, being a product of our time, also required sign-off from it’s billionaire star subject so predictably avoids venturing far from corporate interests. Dance may make you feel like you’re finally getting the real story, but ultimately it’s the same story you’ve gotten all along, the tried and true one that has been told in two minute commercials for decades. The crew behind Madness had license to tell whatever story they felt was most worth telling, and the result feels a lot more human and interesting. While Jordan and Phil were masterminding their final triumphant season in Chicago, in Fresno there was a group of young players caught in bad situations made worse by draconian NCAA policy, while the national media shook their collective finger at them for having it too good for too long. If The Last Dance shows us the system working perfectly to reward talent and effort, Between The Madness suggests that’s more an exception than rule.I’m hyping this film up knowing you can’t watch for yourself and disagree, because some years ago Between The Madness disappeared. Internet searches bring back only a few clips and some old message board posts written by fans trying to track down a copy for themselves. It can’t be found in any great online warehouses or auctions or pirate sites. The film is unavailable, but just because something is unavailable doesn’t mean that it’s entirely gone. I first heard of Between The Madness in a bar in Austin, Texas in 2016. I was there performing in my first ever comedy festival, which was being held during South by Southwest but was not an official part of that indie rock fest turned thinkfluencer/tech/media/music/whatever/free stuff bonanza that is modern South By. The fest I flew in for was an independent venture put on by the local alt-comedy club opportunistically timed to siphon off some SXSW asses for their seats and attract sponsor dollars from players too small to buy-in to the main event. Getting suckered into paying your own way to a bad festival is a stock comedian story, and this one turned out to be mine. The day of the festival I learned my involvement consisted of one ten minute set, to be performed in the lobby of the club, in the early afternoon, standing alongside sponsor booths as they handed out free samples. I’d had rough sets before but this was the first time I’d been upstaged by organic soybean chips. The chips were not good but they were my compensation, so I finished my set and stuffed my bag full of them before heading back out into broad daylight to find a drink. Walking through the towering corporate absurdity of SXSW was a welcome distraction. I remember AMC promoting a new show about a Preacher teaming up with a vampire by constructing a massive upside down church. USA Network set up an entire carnival to promote Mr. Robot in all it’s corporate approved anti-corporate splendor. I saw handsome Canadian basketball legend Rick Fox for the second time in my life. My bleak festival debut was forced into the backseat.I was staying on the couch of my friend, the hoops writer Ananth Pandian, and I met up with Ananth and his friend Luke Bonner at a bar. Luke starting talking about Between The Madness. I had never heard of it. He told us he saw the film only once in his life, when he was heading into his freshman season at West Virginia, and called it one of the biggest learning experiences of his time in college. Sitting there in summer class, before his freshman season had even started, Madness gave Luke what he felt was his first real look at the world he was entering as a college basketball player. Line cast and hook set, he reeled me in: He’d never been able to find the film again. He’d been trying for years, he said, and it didn’t seem to exist anymore.Learning that an obscure and noteworthy documentary existed, and that was difficult (impossible?) to find was like a designer drug created specifically for the part of me I’ll describe as Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons but for basketball. I had to find it. I would find it. Then I would judge it. When I got back to Portland I started searching online and two things kept happening: I would not find the film, and I would learn a more about that team’s notoriety that made me want the film even more.As my obsession grew and online searches failed I decided to start reaching out to anyone I could who was associated with the film over social media. I told them I was creating a podcast about my search for the film and that I’d like to talk and, oh yeah, do you happen to have a copy? That podcast never got off the ground as I imagined it but now, three years later and thanks to a pandemic putting stand-up in a choke hold, I had time to go back and re-listen to the interviews from 2017 and share them, finally.I eventually watched the film courtesy of Paul Doyle, the Director, who I tracked down using LinkedIn. By that time Paul was living a different professional life running a business that helped seniors find various services. Along the way I also talked with Terrance Roberson, a star on the team and one of the main subjects of the documentary. Terrance is the first player interviewed in the film, as a sophomore sitting alone in the locker room he tells the story of his mother dying in front of him after suffering a heart attack in church, and the tone is set. Terrance was the only member of that team to play four seasons at Fresno State and talked about his standout career there, regrets, and current life as a mentor to basketball talent and a mental health technician in his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan. My first break, though, was talking with a member of the film’s crew named Stephen Mintz. I came across Stephen’s name on an old Fresno State message board where someone mentioned he made the film and had since become a stand-up comedian in Fresno. I found his comedian page on facebook and soon we were talking via Skype about his experience chasing around the team with a camera on his shoulder for six months. Mintz developed an attachment with the team that would strain after filming. After the season, still wanting to be close to the team, Mintz took a job as statistician and academic advisor. In the latter role he gained notoriety when he told a newspaper that he wrote papers for players in exchange for money, part of a scandal that got his name everywhere from the Fresno Bee to the New York Times and made him persona non grata to the program. He talked about all of it. Later I’d meet Mintz in person when he got me up on a stand-up show in Fresno and get to talk comedy-shop, basketball, and about his gig at the local Haunted House.Paul, Terrance, and Stephen all spoke with reverence about Tark and shared stories of their time with him. They talked about the emotional toll of that season, the mixed feelings they have, and the impact the film had on their lives nearly twenty years later. And, of course, I got their inside perspectives on the samurai sword incident for the record. I forwarded the film to Luke Bonner, now retired from basketball, who finally got to see the film that hit him so hard as a teenager. Luke thinks the film is still great, and I agree. Since there are no plans to re-release the film these interviews are as close as anyone can get to the experience. I like to imagine another basketball obsessive will come across them while conducting their own search for the film. Now with time to reflect I’ve been able to feel gratitude for how much better it was that I couldn’t simply order Between The Madness from Amazon. It’s unavailability gave me a quest and conversations with people I’ll never forget. Despite how bad that comedy festival was I’m glad I decided to use my “emergencies only” credit card to pay my own way. F**k all soybean chips forever, though. This is a public episode. With the short week, we weren't able to do a full episode. We did however get a chance to talk to Seattle U men's soccer coach and Sounders broadcast analyst Pete Fewing. We figured now would be as good a time as any to share that interview. If you don't know, Fewing is a Seattle soccer original. He's been around the game here his whole life, playing against the likes of Brian Schmetzer as a youth, then playing at the University of Washington and for Seattle FC. He began coaching at Seattle U way back in 1988 and put together one of the strongest NAIA programs in the nation, winning a national title in 1997 and eventually moving up to NCAA Division II. There, he led the Redhawks to an undefeated campaign in 2004 that culminated with another national title. He left Seattle U in 2005 and spent a few years coaching the Kitsap Pumas, notably nearly leading them to an upset of the Sounders in the U.S. Open Cup in 2011. He eventually returned to Seattle U and helped guide them to Division I in 2012. Last year he guided them to a Western Athletic Conference title and into the NCAA's Sweet 16. Over 18 seasons, he's won 220 games, registered a winning percentage of better than 60 percent and suffered through just three losing seasons.

We here at NationalFootballAuthority.com are taking more steps to bring you the very best information with our daily content. We now offer you the third podcast from NFAuth. College football writer Matt Baxendell (a.k.a. Bax) hosts this week's edition of NFA Radio. The focus is on National Football Authority's college football previews. College football Editor-in-Chief Nate Kuester talks with Bax about who the top stars and bottom feeders are in the Sun Belt Conference. The guys also examine the Western Athletic Conference and discuss how the exit of Boise State has thrown the gates wide open for teams to race to grab the brass ring. The sanctions handed down by the NCAA to Georgia Tech and LSU are issues the guys have no problem taking on. Bax and Nate also discuss how those sanctions actually benefit the Ohio State Buckeyes. Marc Tyler's drunken proclamation that players at USC make more money in college than the pros is another fun topic that gets tackled in the podcast. Bax takes on the current situation of the NFL lockout, filling us in on where things stand.Outspoken Steelers linebacker James Harrison is also a topic that gets put under the microscope.
TRANSCRIPT With college football season about to start and with all the brain-dead, woke individuals walking around in their zombie mode, it was only a matter of time until one among them noticed the "ethnic" reference to the Irish in the mascot and sports team of the "Fighting Irish" at Notre Dame. For the record, Notre Dame itself did a little "polishing" of its own name a number of years back. We graduates from back in the day recall it used to be the "Fightin' Irish," not the more sedate "Fighting Irish." The quasi-slang word "fightin'" was meant to convey a kind of street-brawling, somewhat-uneducated commoner. "Fighting" is a little more refined. "Domers," as Notre Dame students and alumni are called, can now associate with the more refined, having dialed back on the lower-class moniker of "Fightin'" by adding the "g" to the end of it. But that's just a little history to show that even Notre Dame, when convenient, will add to its own history in order to subtract from its own lore. However, when the zombies came after the name and the leprechaun (the Notre Dame mascot) a couple of weeks ago, Notre Dame fired back, telling the zombies to, as the Irish say, kiss off. The reasoning was sound because, unlike major league sports teams like the Atlanta Braves, which, as a team, doesn't have anything to do with native Americans, Notre Dame became a haven for Irish immigrants to escape the extremes of a very anti-Catholic climate. He is celebrated at Notre Dame as some giant figure of accomplishment, but he was a traitor to the Faith, plain and simple. Actually, Notre Dame was founded in 1842 by the French order of C.S.C. — Holy Cross — and originally established as a school for mostly native American children and orphans of the Potawatomi tribe who had been orphaned by attacks from other Native American tribes (so much for the "peaceful Indians overrun by the mean White colonials" narrative). But as the waves of Catholic immigrants picked up steam over the next 50 years, Notre Dame became an outpost for young Catholic men banding together for a Catholic education who wanted to make something of themselves in their new country. Since many of the Irish already spoke some level of English, it was easier for them to advance, and large numbers of Irish immigrants and their sons began flocking to Notre Dame, transforming the French-run former school for Indian orphans into a pre-college, a college and, eventually, a university. Along the way, the Irish student body discovered a little pastime called football and would go on to become the unsurpassed champions of the gridiron. But that "ethnic thing" really stuck. The severe anti-Catholicism of the early 20th century was dominant, and it was constantly thrown in the face of the Notre Dame football team. In fact, Notre Dame became the country's national team precisely because of anti-Catholicism. When legendary coach Knute Rockne applied for entry into the Western Athletic Conference (which is now the Big Ten and which actually has 12 teams), the application was rejected specifically because of odium fidei, hatred of the Faith. The big kid on the block in the WAC was the University of Michigan, whose head coach, Fielding Yost, hated Catholics. He told the rest of the conference that if Notre Dame gained admission, he would take his Michigan football team and go home. And in a classic case of "lemons to lemonade," when Rockne and Notre Dame were shunned because of the Faith, Rockne simply took the team on the road, playing in the largest cities in the country and developing an intense national following as Catholics in all these major cities took pride in playing and whipping the rear ends of the anti-Catholic Protestant schools of the day. It was in that climate that the nickname "Fightin' Irish" was born. It was originally an insult levied by sportswriters and Protestant fans who, after having been handed one defeat after another, derided the Irish Catholics with catcalls from the stands, such as "all you Irish can do is drink and fight." So the name "Fightin' Irish" was originally a slur, however, in true Irish form, Notre Dame's 1924 yearbook embraced it saying, "'Fightin' Irish': a moniker originally given in derision; but so truly has it come to represent us that we are now unwilling to part with it, and we are, therefore, the Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame." It was that history that Notre Dame recently threw back in the face of the woke zombies, who quickly retreated and just dropped the subject altogether, even taking down the website where the school name had been listed in the top five of the most offensive sports teams in the country. The absolute dominance of Notre Dame in football brought the university a prestige, a certain cache, that, in the hands of the right man, could have produced the most Catholic university in the country. But another man, a truly malevolent and deceptive man, took over Notre Dame in the late 1950s and transformed the school into a vehicle for the widest possible destruction of the Faith imaginable. The man was Fr. Theodore Hesburgh, a Holy Cross priest who was president of Notre Dame from 1952 to 1987. During his tenure, he used Notre Dame to totally remake Catholic education and even tried to change Church teaching. He is celebrated at Notre Dame as some giant figure of accomplishment, but he was a traitor to the Faith, plain and simple. In the 1960s, for example, he worked behind the scenes with Planned Parenthood in a series of conferences paid for by the Rockefeller Foundation to produce a document for dissident theologians to sign and present to Rome to try to change the teaching on birth control. For his efforts to undermine the Church, he was given the chairmanship of the Rockefeller Foundation. Additionally, Hesburgh worked with another Theodore, not well-known at all at the time, also to undermine the Church. On the signature page of the statement that came to be known as the Land O' Lakes statement, you can see his name proudly displayed: Theodore McCarrick, president of the Catholic University of Puerto Rico. The communist-trained homopredator had already insinuated himself into the foundations of the destruction of the Church way back then. Various accounts, in fact, suggest that McCarrick was one of the driving forces, if not the driving force, behind the actual words of the statement, having been the major ghostwriter author of it. Theodore McCarrick and Theodore Hesburgh wiped out Catholic higher-level education in America, which eventually worked its way down to grade-school level all across the Church in the United States. By the time McCarrick was planting the dynamite at Notre Dame to destroy the Faith in Catholic classrooms, he was already a prolific homosexual rapist, attacking numerous boys and young men on his way to becoming the most notorious homosexual rapist the Church has known. But this was just one of Hesburgh's "accomplishments," bringing aboard a rapist to help chart the course of Catholic higher education. Everywhere the man went, he sought to undo the spiritual success of Notre Dame and substitute it with worldly success, exchanging spiritual goods for earthly evils disguised as goods. He brought aboard Fr. Richard McBrien, a lying cheat of a priest who did all in his power for 30 years on campus to corrupt the minds of the young students sitting before him semester after semester, even becoming chairman of the theology department for a dozen years. He came to campus supporting birth control and women's ordination, so he was the perfect star in the dark constellation that Hesburgh was creating at Notre Dame. What did not get printed in the glowing press releases from Notre Dame's propaganda department was that McBrien was secretly living with a woman who would regularly accompany him to all the clerical events at Notre Dame, the worst kept secret among Notre Dame's priests. He and the woman lived together for so long that the state of Indiana treated their cohabitation as a civil marriage, it having surpassed the necessary number of years at the same address to be considered legal. Hesburgh hired and defended and promoted a vow-breaking, fornicating priest and set him loose on 30 years of students to instruct them in theology. His "theology" was so bad that even the wildly liberal U.S. bishops' conference had to condemn it. Over the many years of Hesburgh's rule over Notre Dame, he stopped at nothing to convert the students sent there into radical anti-Catholics. Even the race-baiting author of the 1619 Project, Nikole Hannah-Jones, is a 1998 graduate of Hesburgh's influence. He brought the traitorous Catholic New York governor Mario Cuomo to campus in 1984 during the Reagan-Mondale campaign to attack Catholic teaching on abortion. It was at Notre Dame in 1984 where the line "personally opposed but ... " first fell from the lips of U.S. Catholic politicians, all under the watchful and supportive eyes of Hesburgh. That would have come as no surprise, however, if you had been a student at Notre Dame prior to the campaign of 1980. During the Reagan-Carter race of that year, I was a sophomore, and on one fall day, Hesburgh went around to every single large class and promoted the line "abortion isn't the only issue." I was a sophomore in chemistry class when Hesburgh came in and politely asked the professor for a few moments to address the students, which, of course, the professor agreed to. Hesburgh went on to tell the few hundred of us sitting there that we needed to weigh all the life issues and that abortion was no different from poverty, subtly placing in students' minds the scandal of Cdl. Joseph Bernardin's so-called consistent ethic of life, which came to be known as the "seamless garment theory." Hesburgh actually had Bernardin be the commencement speaker at my class graduation in 1983. Looking over the totality of Hesburgh's anti-Catholicism disguised as elitist Catholicism, quite the picture comes into focus. Looking over the totality of Hesburgh's anti-Catholicism disguised as elitist Catholicism, quite the picture comes into focus. He cooperated with Planned Parenthood and the Rockefeller Foundation, used his influence as president of Notre Dame to get Pope Paul VI to change Church teaching on birth control, conspired with the likes of Theodore McCarrick, Richard McBrien and Joseph Bernardin to corrupt the minds of students for almost 40 years and laid the course for how Catholic education could be completely corrupted. But at least the university got the "Fighting Irish" part right. And I'm pretty sure it didn't have anything to do with the marketing department that recently signed the most lucrative sports marketing deal in all of college sports. No, Notre Dame would never stoop to that level. Corrupt young minds? Cooperate with fornicating and homosexual rapist clergy? Advance political agendas resulting in the deaths of 65 million children? Well, okay, but come on, man, don't mess with the leprechaun. That's a bridge too far and too woke, even for us.
