One of the biggest mistakes job candidates make is thinking the interview is only about what they say. So they spend all their time preparing answers and trying to sound impressive. Meanwhile… The interviewers are reacting, signaling, judging, connecting, disengaging, leaning in, checking out, growing skeptical, getting interested, and making real-time decisions based on how they feel. Most job candidates never notice any of it. They walk out thinking, That went pretty well. Then they never hear back. Ouch. Strong candidates don't just answer questions.
One of the biggest mistakes professionals make is assuming that because a company is hiring… the company must be healthy. Uh, sadly, no. Sometimes they're putting fresh paint on the walls and didn't bother to patch the concrete underneath. Today, I have a short, but powerful lesson on how to evaluate whether you're joining a company that's going up… Or is sinking, but just doesn't know it yet. Of course, no one has a crystal ball. But as your dear ole' Coach Andy likes to say… I can see around corners because I know what to look for. In the next 5+ minutes, you too will have my see-around-the-corner goggles. Just ask a few questions and you'll know whether their needle is moving up or down. Smart professionals don't just evaluate the job. They evaluate the future of the company offering it. In this episode, Andy Robinson, owner and lead consultant at LFG Mindset Consulting, joins Kristi Skutvik to share the story behind his mindset coaching practice. Andy grew up in a military town in New Jersey and knew from the age of 15 that he wanted to be a Marine. After joining the Marine Corps and deploying twice to Iraq, his second deployment in 2006 ended when his truck was hit by a roadside bomb. Three Marines in the vehicle died that day. Andy survived but broke his neck, ribs, and legs and spent seven months in the hospital. At 23, everything he associated with his identity was gone. Rather than building his future around his limitations, Andy chose to focus on what he wanted his life to look like. He surrounded himself with other veterans who had chosen differently, learned to drive, went to college, started a family, and eventually landed a job in capital markets with no finance background, cold calling Fortune 500 CFOs and treasurers at companies like Amazon, Ford, and Coca-Cola. When he realized his fulfillment was no longer in finance, he discovered mindset coaching and recognized he had been living its principles for years without knowing the language. Now he helps people step into the next version of themselves by reprogramming their self-image, rewriting the stories they tell themselves, and building a vision for the life they actually want. Learn more about Skutvik Consulting Follow PeopleForward Network on LinkedIn Learn more about PeopleForward Network Key Takeaways: Everything in your life is a reflection of the self-image you once held, change the image and the results follow Your subconscious only operates in the present tense, so the language you use about your goals and circumstances directly shapes what you experience The people you surround yourself with influence the choices you make, seek out those who are living the kind of life you want Start reprogramming your mindset with a blank notebook: write about the life you want as if it is already happening, based purely on desire rather than current circumstances Busy is a choice, not a badge of honor, there are people just as successful who are not busy, because they have trained themselves to think differently about time and priorities
Most job seekers think they need to beat the ATS. Optimize the résumé. Match the keywords. Play the system. That's the wrong goal. You don't beat the ATS.
Let's talk about something most candidates completely miss in interviews.

Lisa asked me a great question the other day. “Coach, how do I know which story to tell in a job interview?” Here's what I told her. If you want to win the interview, there's one thing to focus on. Function. As in, what they actually need you to do. Not who you are. Not how nice you seem.What. You. Can. Do. See, you get hired for WHAT you can do. You get fired for WHO you are. So, here's a quick video to you dial in your focus during the interview. In this shortie (well, Coach Andy's version of shortie), I walk through: What to look for in the job description. How to reverse-engineer your stories. And how to match what you say to the work they need done. Because if they don't believe you can do the thing… You don't get the thing. Hope this helps you dial in and dial up your next interview! If you'd like to build a great career and lead a rewarding life, check out some of these other places where I share my teachings: 1. I've also been using Momentous creatine, and while it certainly helps physical performance, including poundage or wattage in sports, I use it primarily for mental performance (short-term memory, etc.).Their products are third-party tested (Informed-Sport and/or NSF certified), so you can trust that what is on the label is in the bottle and nothing else.
