Episode 171 is another instalment of our series #BookstagramMadeMeDoIt and this time we're reading Don't Let the Forest In by C.G. Drews. This one has all the things we love: dark academia vibes, queer representation, and creepy forests that start growing inside your body (literally!)Show NotesYou might know C.G. Drews on Instagram as @paperfury! They always have funny writing memes and gorgeous bookish flat lays. You've also probably seen Don't Let the Forest In because it's been all over Bookstagram and BookTok. It fit so perfectly with our current creepy nature horror vibes that it was a natural pick for this episode.Somehow Jette and Gen both ended up listening to The Honeys by Ryan La Sala at almost the same time without even knowing it. That one also features twins and nature being weird and creepy. (And if you listen to the audio, you'll hear some extra buzzy sound effects, too!)On May 1, C.G. Drews is releasing a prequel short story to Don't Let the Forest In about Thomas! It will be available on their Instagram as a carousel or downloadable on their Patreon. In our next episode, we'll be talking about Gen's book club pick, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler. Buckle up for a dystopian world that's set in our current time! Is this what it was like to read 1984 in 1984?Jette is keeping our next book club pick a secret until we record the next episode, so stay tuned to find out what it will be!Other Books and Media MentionedThe Sixth SenseThe Honeys by Ryan La SalaThe Afterdark by E. Nach dem Kollaps der mykenischen Paläste beginnt eine lange, schriftlose Zeit: die sogenannten Dunklen Jahrhunderte Griechenlands.

As women, our hormones affect us, sometimes in ways we aren't even aware of. From our energy and mood, hormonal fluctuations throughout your cycle can influence our energy, motivation, and productivity. But here's the thing: the changes and effects aren't always negative. Sometimes, they can actually work in our favor -  especially for entrepreneurs. Our menstrual cycles can help us in our businesses. They can allow us to plan our tasks better and feel more in control of our lives. How do we use our cycles to your advantage in our lives and businesses? In this episode, I talk to holistic hormone coach and RN, Leisha Drews to help you understand why these changes happen and how to use them to your advantage. With that, you'll know how to work with your body, not against it, to make your business and life better.   "The first thing is how we perceive our bodies, and understanding that is the first step. Having symptoms during our cycles is actually not normal. It is normal, good, and optimal to have a smooth cycle." -Leisha Drews   3 Things You'll Learn in This Episode   -You won't feel the same all the time Hormonal fluctuations throughout our cycles can influence our energy, motivation, and productivity. How can we use this knowledge to plan our business activities effectively?   -Planning your work around your cycle When we understand our cycles, we can plan tasks like creating content and networking according to the different phases. What are the best times for high-energy tasks versus introspective activities?   -Making the most of your hormonal changes Our hormonal changes are superpowers not hindrances. How can embracing these changes lead to better business decisions and a more balanced life?   Guest Bio Leisha is an RN and holistic hormone coach and loves to help women feel empowered by understanding their bodies and hormones better, so they can have great energy, good periods, and no more PMS. She is a mama of 3 and host of the Happily Hormonal Podcast, and when not talking about hormones can be found planning an adventure or enjoying the sunshine. Our exit today has us focusing on two romantic comedies that are centered on either coast over several years where friends from childhood discover their love for each other. First, there is Keeping the Faith, written by Stuart Blumberg and directed by Edward Norton. The film centers on a love triangle between a rabbi, a priest and their childhood best friend. Next, we will talk about Boys and Girls, written by The Drews and directed by Robert Iscove. That film stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Claire Forlani as two college kids who have a will they/won't they relationship over the course of over a decade. Along the way, Tripp and Ross talk about their own religious upbringings and college experiences, along with The Blair Witch Project, wasted legends of the screen, whether Anne Bancroft's filmography is "cool enough," the rise of Edward Norton, and Ross still won't let go of last week's American Psycho discussion! In this week's episode of Intuitive Queens I'm interviewing Lynda Drews - True Crime Story Author.   Lynda was ready to retire after working for 30 years for IBM, her idea was to enjoy her free time and enjoy her grandkids.   However, before doing that she had something important to take care of: writing a book about the murder of her dear Friend Pamela.   Pamela's murder happened many years ago and Lynda always had a feeling that something was not right. Finally, when she retired she started writing the book and eventually published.   The success was incredible.   In this episode we talk about:   Linda's 30-year career at IBM in technical and marketing roles, with global travel. Her passion for running and a close-knit running group of friends. The murder of her friend Pam that inspired her to write her first book for closure called Run at Destruction, True Fatal Love Triangle - Linda's first book about the murder of her friend Pam Buick The joy of now being a True Crime Story Author Linda's process of researching the case objectively and changing her perspective. How she pursued writing after retirement through classes and workshops. Tips for starting a writing project, including quitting research and starting to write. Linda's walking tours in Green Bay neighborhoods related to her current book called The Maiden and the Socialite: The Brave Women Behind Green Bay's Scandalous Minnehan Trials Advice that it's never too late to pursue your passions. Passion can change your life at any age   I loved having Lynda on the show, because her story shows how it's never too late to listen to that voice within that is asking you to use your creativity and follow your passion! Do you struggle to show up as your best self because you feel fat, tired and grumpy?   Most high achieving women diagnose themselves as lazy or bitchy when our bodies feel like “one more problem” we have to deal with. We push through our feelings and try harder to do better, but deep down wonder what is wrong with us.   But even if we're diagnosed with a legit hormone imbalance, medications can only bandaid the symptoms and enable us to continue behaviors that lead to burnout.   Blaming your body for the deficits your behaviors are creating, and restricting your food intake while using coffee (and wine) to get through the day makes life harder, not easier.    Leisha Drews is a holistic hormone coach who teaches women how to heal their relationship with their bodies so their bodies can heal. In this episode, you'll learn: The beliefs and behaviors that cause cravings, fatigue and moodiness How to escape the “on and off the wagon” lifestyle so you can live in a permanent state of wellbeing Simple daily self-care practices that support hormone health and give you the energy you need to not only function but to enjoy your life Click here to find more on Leisha's website, LeishaDrews.com.  Click here to BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL WITH COLLEEN Are you looking for a mindful drinking coach instead of a sobriety program? If the opportunity doesn't seem to exist, just ask because that can open doors for your student.  “There are so many neat ways for families to engage in the opportunities to see and experience the real world. And I love the fact that this can be looked at from an awareness piece, it can be from an exploration piece, it can be from a planning piece, it can be from a doing piece.” – Drews MitchellAbout Drews Mitchell: Drews Mitchell earned an MA in School Counseling from Xavier University and has been serving as a counselor since 2007.
