POPULARITY
In the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, when it was clear that the 2020 rowing season was in jeopardy, we started brainstorming. We were just two masters rowers and coaches who wanted to celebrate the expansive array of rowers, coaches, and coxswains and savor real-life experience from launch to cox seat at every level. We launched Steady State Network in September 2020 with one goal: reframe the popular, yet limited narrative about rowing culture by creating a more inclusive and better represented rowing community. On September 22, 2020 with very little audio production experience, but plenty of big ideas and lots of opinions, we dropped episode 1 of Steady State Podcast and wondered: will anyone notice? Will anyone listen? Join us to look back – and ahead – as we celebrate our 100th episode! Whether you watched it at 18 or 8 or never watched it at all, My So-Called Life was a part of yours. So how could it have only lasted one season? You may not believe us that it did. But that's just you making assumptions and we don't have time for your preconcieved notions around here. Whitney Powell Sulia Altenberg DerickArmijo @SingleSeasonTV singleseasonrecord@gmail.com
Forster states that "I have always been a coxswain but I just recently found rowing". Locking in and mentally preparing for the adventure, the smaller sized individual takes charge and leads the crew to victory on and off the water. Coined as the Coxswain, half the size of the pack but more powerful than one can imagine, the leader of the squad or “ninth seat” embraces the chronicles of an athlete, without the need to perform physical exercise. Respect, trust, leadership, admiration, along with others, are earned, not expected. We talk about the power of the individual being mighty in its size, yet the magnitude that one holds while living out the position of a coxswain of their crew. Sit in on Ms. Whitney Powell aka “The Candid Cox” as she gives us our second “Bucket of Bliss” on the benefits and struggles that one may endure in this sport, the toll on the mental-side of athletics, and relationships within their team and coaches. Together, we converse about the United States National Team circuit, world rowing traditions, and how coxswains need to be "a student of the sport". This podcast relates to all rowers, coaches, and coxswains who might need an outlet to hear and relate to all of the thoughts we may feel, but don't talk about on a daily basis. Follow Whitney on Instagram at @ironwillwhit & @thecandidcox for her updates and rowing expeditions. Not only that but tune into her own podcast channel "The Candid Cox Cast" on Youtube.

Whitney Powell's art is something you have to see to believe. Is it a photo? Is it a drawing? It's almost impossible to tell the difference. But what is perhaps even more incredible is Whitney's absolute zest for life and her refusal to let challenges - even a progressively debilitating disease - dampen that. Don't pity Whitney. Respect her, her talent and her resilience.
People are pretty badass. We are capable of way more than we give ourselves credit for. Whether it’s building a business, Breaking a world record,Doing something to get out of our comfort zone Or designing the life of your dreams,Chances are if you can conceive of it, can believe in it, you can achieve it.Sometimes it just takes someone to come by every once in a while to remind us what we’re actually capable of.That’s what Whitney Powell does on today’s show. She’s known as “Iron Will Whit.”Some people called me crazy for going from running a half marathon (13 miles) to a 50 miler. Whitney, went from from a marathon, straight through to 100! Yes, 100 miles. And besides stretching her comfort zone, she’s designing the life she wants doing what she loves. She’s an amazing inspiration and a great reminder that we are more capable than we think we are. Enjoy the show :)#StayCurious
Never Stop Peaking - Motivation for Your Creative Maniac Mind
Every once in a while, I walk away from a conversation feeling like I have fear in an everlasting headlock. This sense of energy is infectious, and I believe that the power of feeling it, absorbing it, and sharing it is my high purpose. But, I cannot just create this energy internally and share it. It comes from the source, and the source is shared with me through the magical impact of others. We are all one big sexy grid of energy. Sometimes, the grid goes down for a few hours while the storms do their work and wash away funk. But, the sun always rises again. Whitney Powell is very much part of the Sun. She shines brightly in areas of leadership, athletics, motivation, and drop-kicking the fuck out of fear. It doesn’t matter how people look at her, she doesn’t care. She always shows up and shines just as bright, no matter what kind of gremlins try and block her aspirations. Whitney is a lifetime athlete, constantly working on performance throughout a variety of sports, including ultra marathons, trail running, diving, cycling, and rowing. She has run marathons on every continent, and she once ran 350 miles from Santa Monica to Las Vegas, and now she’s taking her best shot at becoming the first woman to row on a Men’s Olympic team. She also heads her own media production company Iron Will Productions, where she travels the world and captures kick-ass adventures. Whitney truly never stops peaking. What do you do when the struggles get to be too much? How do you deal with the fears and frustrations of being an entrepreneur? We have all been there, and they will happen throughout your career, but today’s guest Whitney Powell has some insight and inspiration to share that will help you break free. Whitney began her career in LA after graduating from film school but soon realized that the Hollywood life was just not for her. So she changed everything. Her love of travel, storytelling, and endurance racing lead her to create her own company that fuses those passions together with social media branding for clients. She opens up about how while her life might look amazing on Instagram and Facebook (and believe me, it does), that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been filled with struggles, frustrations, and fear. She gets brutally honest about all of this, including what she does to pick herself up and continue moving forward even in the darkest times. If you have ever felt like taking your business in another direction more in line with your deepest passions, then this is a podcast that you cannot miss. I learned a ton from this conversation, and I strongly suggest you listen to it twice because it is just that good. Have you ever felt like throwing in the towel? How did you get yourself past that point? Let us know in the comments! In this episode: What does entrepreneurial life really look like, and how does it differ from what we see on social media? Tips on how to recover when you are feeling like giving up Why it’s so important to be honest and upfront on social media How to think outside the box when it comes to making a career in the film and video industry Quotes: “You need to know what you are worth and say no, ‘I am going to stick to my guns and follow the path that I envisioned & not accommodate what other people’s visions are.” (34:13) “Get mad and get proactive.” (35:29) “What do I want? Nobody else is living my life. I have to live my life, so what do I want to be doing with that time. We only have so many hours in a day to make those choices so what are you going to do with it?” (36:46)
