Justin Guarini became a household name in 2002 as the runner-up in Season 1 of American Idol. From there, he's starred in multiple Broadway shows and, in 2015, began appearing in Diet Dr. Pepper commercials as "Lil' Sweet." But the road to success has not always been an easy one. Through the ups, down, and complete direction reversals that the public is often not made aware of, Justin ended up in unexpected territory, fascinated with the ins and outs of what allows entertainers, influencers, and entrepreneurs to be confident in moments when they're feeling anything but. It's been a journey that led to the creation of his Core Confidence program and his newly released book, Unshakeable Confidence. In this incredible conversation, Justin and I discussed confidence -- that "thing" that every creative person lacks at one point or another, no matter how much success he or she attains!A few interview highlights:[4:30] Confidence is not necessarily something you're born with. You don't “have it” or not. The formula that stands the test of time when it comes to consistent confidence.[7:28] The non-negotiable component that Justin tags onto the end of the philosophy “Be. Do. Have.” [9:59] Are 1500 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets in the hotels of Bel Air really that great? [10:23] How confident Justin felt just after the Season 1 finale of American Idol and the news he got from Tina Fey that changed everything[18:25] The most profound realization Justin had after the mountain on which everything he thought he wanted sat came tumbling down [19:20] The true meaning of Followers and Likes“Anyone who's ever made anything — whether that's impact or a material thing of significance — has failed massive amounts of times.”[36:45] The belief that changes everything when people don't show up to your events[48:10] The 4 key necessary skills when it comes to building a consistent state of confidenceConnect with JustinCoreConfidenceCoaching.com(For a limited time, he's giving away the eBook version of Unshakeable Confidence: Be, Do, Have, and Give More than You Ever Imagine for free!)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/authors-creators-visionaries-podcast. Did ANYTHING good happen to you in 2020?It's the question that seemingly everyone is asking right now, and I had the unique opportunity to chat with business strategist Mike Young about our unexpected (but greatly appreciated) lessons learned this year. Among these lessons:What you say to yourself matters - how you describe or qualify your “failures” or missteps is crucial. When starting a new offer, you'll always have an imposter-syndrome feeling because you don't know how it's all going to play out. The solution: DO NOT over-promise on your offer. It's difficult to OVER-communicate with people you are close to.You have to know where you're going and how you're going to get there (plus my newest secret weapon in this area)The value of monitoring your energy as you determine what you DO like at any given point in time. “No one has EVER told the story you are about to tell. And no one will ever again tell that story.”-Daniel Bruce Levin In the second half of this incredible conversation with Daniel Bruce Levin, author of The Mosaic, we dive deeper into the 4 connections we all have in this life (Self, Source, Purpose, Others) as well as Danny's 4 steps to create greater connection with oneself:1. DO UNTO YOURSELF: Because we are so inherently unkind to ourselves, it's necessary to flip the adage around 2. EMBRACE VULNERABILITY: The fact is, when my wall's not up, I experience you and can give back to you. As Danny says, "The lie has become so easy to believe that we call it the truth. And the truth has become so easy to believe that we call it a lie.” When we listen to people's stories, the picture we begin to see is completely different to the person we first saw. 3. LIVE PURPOSEFULLY: Do what you came here to do! Once we allow ourselves to become vulnerable, things start to come into us and go out from us. The outside world will always reflect what's going on in the inside world. As soon as we can put into our GPS what our destination is, the road to where we're going is clear. If you have no idea why you're here or where you're going, every road will take you there.[HOLY YES MOMENT] When you ask someone what they were came here to do and they answer, "I don't know," the simple translation of those three words is, “I'm scared of what would happen if I actually knew what I'm here to do because I don't feel good enough to do it.” Danny lets you in on the simply question that helps you authentically answer the question, “What did you come here to do?” 4. BUILD YOUR MOSAIC: Purposefully place the pieces that will take you in the direction you want to go.If you want to tell your story, but believe your topic has already been covered, this podcast is just for you! If you struggle to feel connection in this increasingly disconnected world, this episode is for you! The purpose of The Mosaic is to help people see what they've never seen before and experience "unzip the sky moments," moments when we become open to the idea that, as we unzip the sky above and see through to the other side, that new perspective changes the whole story.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/authors-creators-visionaries-podcast. A connectivity expert and business leader, he works with governmental organizations, corporations and businesses to improve how people treat themselves and each other. Sharing a message of unification, he is a popular speaker for groups whose focus is on problem-solving, innovation and conflict resolution. His thoughts around the concept of the book people think they are writing versus the book they are actually writing are fascinating. In short, “When we marry who we write about to who we are, we end the moment in time for our experience" and the result clarifies "how to marry the book that you needed to read with the concepts that you've lived since that point in time."He also answers the question about why, of all the people who could have written this book, he was the least likely person to have actually done it.The Mosaic, which is endorsed by Sonia Choquette, Arielle Ford, Caroline Myss (among others) has been touted as the new coming of The Alchemist (though Daniel hadn't read The Alchemist before penning The Mosaic), and, in his words, "Writing the book was erasing most of what I wrote because I was finding myself in the process."We talk about how and when being an over-thinker is actually a good thing as well as how we are all punching ourselves in the face (metaphorically speaking) every single day. (Hint: you think you need protection from others; the person you need protection from is yourself.)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/authors-creators-visionaries-podcast. It can be hard to declare a book “done.”In this week's podcast, Genevieve and I discuss self-imposed deadlines as well as my definitive answer to the ever-burning “How many words do I have to have” question. Finally, we talk about who owns copyright—author or publisher.Oh, and a VERY IMPORTANT PSA on whether or not to single or double-space between sentences. *Hint: this could save you hours of editing re-work.The post Podcast #005: Word Count, Writing Deadlines and Copyright Questions appeared first on Publish a Profitable Book.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/authors-creators-visionaries-podcast. PPB PODCAST: EPISODE 004When Genevieve Georget's Facebook post went viral back in September 2015, she was contacted by several publishers (both traditional and vanity/hybrid). And she was overwhelmed with questions. Is it best to sign away rights to an as-yet-unwritten book to get the advance from a traditional publisher? If she went with a traditional publisher, how long would it be until her book was available for sale? Was the $8000 quote she received from a vanity press reasonable when it only included 100 print copies? (It wasn't.)If she self-published, where would she even start? These are all questions we talked through and address again in this week's podcast.Additionally, we'll let you in on what intangible quality won us over about the designer we've selected to create Gen's book cover— and convinced us that, without doubt, she was the right fit for this project.Resources Mentioned:Book Trailer for If It Was Easy They'd Call the Whole Damn Thing a Honeymoon by Jenna McCarthyThe post Podcast #004: How to Choose a Publishing Approach appeared first on Publish a Profitable Book.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/authors-creators-visionaries-podcast. PPB PODCAST: EPISODE 003One cannot simply claim to be a New York Times bestselling author. Nor can one simply claim to be a Wall Street Journal bestselling author. One can simply claim, however, to be a national bestselling author, or an Amazon bestselling author, or a Top Ten bestselling author. Why?Because beyond the bigger, traditional publications, the term “bestselling” is loosely defined. One can be a bestselling Amazon author and support that by showing that she hit the Top 100 on May 6, 2014 for 3 hours.Or, one can be a national bestselling author because…well…because he says he is and who's going to challenge him on it?But while authors focus on the word “bestseller,” it's important to realize that one can BUY his or her way onto the major bestseller lists. And, in the end, unless claiming (or legitimately having) bestseller status is the end goal, it's not what authors should shoot for.In this podcast, Genevieve Georget and I discuss (among other things, including the current state of book printing and cover design quotes for Gen's forthcoming book) the question authors would be better served by answering as they prepare to launch their book.Resources Mentioned:What No One Tells You About Becoming a Best-Selling Author (Jeff Goins)Ask by Ryan Levesque The post Podcast #003: What Constitutes a Best Selling Book appeared first on Publish a Profitable Book.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/authors-creators-visionaries-podcast. As Genevieve Georget and I began talking through the high-level details of her book (scheduled to launch September 30, 2016), she understandably had lots of questions. Many of them are, perhaps, questions you've had as you thought about writing a book. Will anyone want to read it?How will I market it?How do I find a good printer?Do I sell through Amazon? How do I get book signings (and do they really even matter)?I promised her that we would address each and every one of her questions and concerns but first, I had one very important question I needed her to answer. Without knowing the answer to this question, it would be challenging for us to move forward and be confident that we were on the “right” path for her project. And that question was:In the series premier of THE MAKING OF A BESTSELLING BOOK, Gen and I discuss:Why she REALLY writesHer honest opinion of the post that so many instantly lovedHandling the haters (because they WILL come)Her own personal WHY when it comes to the writing and publishing of her first bookI'd love to hear from you!
