“The act of you and I exchanging contact information raises the standard that there is going to be a follow up…You want to make that connection and set the expectation right then and there.”Ever left a conference buzzing, only to watch that excitement fizzle when it comes to follow-up? This live coaching session from The Speaker Lab pulls back the curtain on how pros turn event momentum into real speaking business.Facilitator Erick Rheam teams up with speakers Bridget Quigg and Shannon GaNun for a candid conversation about what works and what doesn't in post-event follow-up. Noura Awad Becoming a confident public speaker
When you're first diving into the speaking business, you know deep down it's going to take hard work and determination to build something truly remarkable. But the million-dollar question always is: How long will this take, and how in the world do I know I'm actually making headway? Well, we look for what I like to call "flashpoints." These are those exhilarating moments in your business where something truly fantastic clicks into place, and you can practically feel yourself propelled forward. On this episode of The Wealthy Speaker Podcast, I'm thrilled to bring back my client, David Atkins, to chat all about how to spot and really savour those incredible flashpoints in your own journey. If you want to know how to spot your own flashpoints and celebrate them, you simply can't afford to miss this episode. For access to FULL SHOW NOTES, including video and links, visit https://www.speakerlauncher.com/category/podcast/
"I know there's a lot of benefits to automation, but when it came to [outreach], I felt it was very important for me to send personalized emails to each person in my network to tell them what I was doing and ask if I could help."If you've ever considered leaving a stable corporate career to pursue something more meaningful, Tania Will Jeppesen's story is essential listening. On this week's episode of The Speaker Lab podcast, host Grant Baldwin sits down with Tania—a former operations and HR leader who took the leap from a secure job and steady paycheck to launch her own consulting business, “The Prepared Leader.” It's an episode full of practical advice and heartfelt honesty for anyone wrestling with the tension between comfort and calling. After nearly two decades in the trenches of supply chain and operations, Tania recognized a gap: frontline managers were often overlooked in leadership development. Driven by a blend of professional experience, a supportive family, and her own faith, she finally acted on a decade-old dream. Tania brings listeners behind the scenes of that decision—sharing candidly about the fears of risk, being the main earner, and modeling courage for her daughters. What makes Tania's journey so relatable is her willingness to focus on what she can control: hard work, authenticity, and showing up for others. Rather than trying to appeal to everyone, she leans into her unique strengths, guided by a clear framework and her deep understanding of her niche. Through every challenge, she keeps her priorities in check—aiming for both business impact and quality time at home.Whether you're dreaming of your own entrepreneurial leap or just searching for courage to act, Tania's story is a timely reminder that the most meaningful success is building a life (and business) that's truly yours. You'll learn:Weighing risk aversion against entrepreneurship dreamsDecision-making and positive-outcome mindsetsHelping organizations level up frontline leadersConsulting as a viable career-pathInitial networking stepsIncorporating family into the entrepreneurial journeyMarket validation through direct-network outreachLeveraging industry knowledgeAnd much, much more!"I really wanted to go into [consulting] with a mindset of not what's the worst that could happen, but what's the best that could happen if I do this?"Episode ResourcesTania's WebsiteGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

“I was trying to figure out what's my lane that I need to be saying yes to? And what are the things I would have to say no to so that I can say yes to the better things?”Kent Chevalier's speaking journey is anything but conventional. In this week's episode of The Speaker Lab podcast, Grant Baldwin sits down with Kent, a longtime pastor turned Pittsburgh Steelers chaplain—who's built his career at the intersection of faith, leadership, and personal courage.Kent opens up about transitioning from preaching in churches to mentoring professional athletes, and how the toughest challenge wasn't the change of audience, it was learning to truly value his craft. Like many who come from service-driven backgrounds, Kent faced the uncomfortable work of charging for his expertise, despite years spent speaking for free. He shares honestly about wrestling with guilt, setting boundaries, and deciding that his time spent away from his wife and daughters needed to be respected and compensated.Underneath it all is a message familiar to anyone striving to turn passion into a profession: fulfillment comes from betting on yourself, even when the path feels risky. Whether he's backstage at an NFL game or leading a business seminar, Kent's mantra of “do it afraid” holds true. If you need a push to embrace your own next leap, Kent's story will remind you that your purpose is bigger than any one season, and your gifts are worth every bit of what you ask! You'll learn:Kent's role as a Pittsburgh Steelers chaplainPreaching new content as opposed to reusing talksNavigating which opportunities to accept and declineChallenges of charging for speakingTarget audiences and adjusting approach based on event contextImportance of expert positioning and business fundamentalsAnd much, much more!“I love encouraging people to embrace fear and to jump because comfort is really a robber. “If you impact one leader and that leader shows up better, then that leader engages better with his or her team. And then if that's a good experience and it's consistent, then those teammates do the same for their team. And all of a sudden you're cascading down.”One of the best things about being a speaker? You get to write your own story—and Daniel Harkavy's is proof that the path isn't always smooth, but it's definitely worth it. In this episode, Daniel opens up about his rocky first speaking gig, however instead of quitting, he uses that failure as fuel. As a result, speaking became the key to growing his coaching business—not just for applause, but to make real connections and lasting impact.Daniel reminds us that success on stage isn't about being perfect, it's about leaning into your strengths, learning from the mess-ups, and using your unique voice to serve others. Speaking doesn't have to be your end game—sometimes it's the launchpad for something even bigger. His big takeaway is to embrace what makes you different, seek out opportunities to serve, and don't let imposter syndrome hold you back. There's no single way to build a speaking business—so create one that excites you while opening doors for others, too. You'll learn:Overcoming imposter syndrome in speakingThe role of speaking in business growthSpeaking as a lead generation toolBalancing speaking and coachingHow to determine the “right audience”Scaling a coaching/speaking businessModernizing speaking business structuresAnd much, much more!“Build a life plan and then a schedule that enables you to flourish and rejuvenate so that when you go out on the road, you are the best version of yourself.”Episode ResourcesDaniel's Website2 Day Booked and Paid BootcampGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

“What does it feel like to be a customer of your business? How are you treating your customers? How are you making them want to not just come back, but tell their friends?”Brittany Hodak's story reminds us that a truly fulfilling speaking career comes from real clarity and intentionality, not chasing every gig or opportunity that comes along. She didn't set out to become a speaker—her journey began with launching a marketing agency for some of music's biggest names, which eventually led to media attention, a Shark Tank appearance, and eventually speaking invitations. Only after saying yes a few times did Brittany realize the demand—and value—for her insights on creating “superfans” through customer experience. However, Brittany's growth wasn't from one big break. It stemmed from consistently refining her message, learning to say no (even to well-paid opportunities), and protecting her priorities—especially bedtime routines with her two young kids. Instead of chasing every opportunity, Brittany focused relentlessly on her message: helping organizations build loyal customers. By sticking to her lane, turning down distractions, and showing up with real, tested insights, she's built a thriving speaking business on her own terms. What can we learn from Brittany? Success isn't about being everywhere or everything. It's about knowing who you serve, being consistent, and building your work around what matters most! You'll learn:Balancing a speaking career and family lifeFocusing on customer experience and creating superfansDetermining the right number of speaking engagementsEvolving your speaking niche and messagingDeveloping signature keynotes and customizationUsing humor and engagement in presentationsProductizing knowledgeAnd much, much more!“You have to stay on one path if you want to be known for that.”Episode ResourcesBrittany's Website2 Day Booked and Paid BootcampGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
“One thing that will make you better suited towards being able to deal with that is if you have a resilient mindset to know that whatever you're going through, what is the lesson I'm going to get out of it and how is it going to make me better? Where is the positive growth going to come from here?”Tiran Jackson's story is a masterclass in turning heartbreak into hope and challenge into fuel. If you think a speaking career is about big breaks or spotlight moments, Tiran is living proof that the real work happens in the trenches of adversity. What began as a thriving engineering career was turned upside down by a tragic accident that took his wife's life and left Tiran fighting for his own. In the aftermath, he didn't set out to be a speaker, but the realization that his journey through loss, resilience, and rebuilding could help others, sparked something new.For months, Tiran focused on tiny, consistent steps: showing up for grueling physical therapy, supporting his son through grief, and speaking at small gatherings, but each moment, and every bit of hard-won progress, mattered. His breakthrough wasn't about having the “best” story, but about building the discipline to show up, refine his message, and deeply serve his audience.Today, Tiran speaks to leadership teams, NFL athletes, and faith communities on resilience and using adversity for growth. His business didn't happen overnight—it grew as he learned to share his story with intention, listen to the needs of his audience, and put in the work of outreach and relationship-building. The lesson? Success as a speaker isn't about being the loudest or most dramatic voice—it's about being willing to show up, be real, adapt, and encourage others no matter how tough it gets. You'll learn:Using adversity for growthResilience in challenging situationsThe role of a strong support systemGrowing confidence and recognition of potentialThe importance of process, audience outreach, and message refinementCustomizing talks for various audiencesThe value of building long-term relationshipsKnowing one's valueThe realities of building a businessAnd much, much more!“If you're not good at something, the best thing you can do is have a process for improvement.”Episode ResourcesTiran's Website2 Day Booked and Paid BootcampGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

“Ultimately, you don't need to have any certification. You need to have some level of experience where you can speak authentically and congruent. It's gotta be congruent with how you feel about your knowledge.”Clinton Young knows what it's like to hit rock bottom—and how to turn that experience into fuel for an inspiring speaking career. After losing his business and confidence during the 2008 financial crisis, everything shifted thanks to a tough-love moment at a seminar and a game-changing podcast episode. Now, as a sought-after speaker and coach, Clinton helps others build clarity, confidence, and the systems they need to get booked and paid to speak.Clinton's secret sauce? It's all about systems—the thing that separates hobby speakers from true professionals. Instead of trying to talk to everyone about everything, he challenges speakers to focus on what they're great at (credibility), what fires them up (excitability), and where the real opportunities are (profitability). The biggest thing that holds most people back? Imposter syndrome. Clinton's quick to remind us that even the best feel uncertain sometimes, but the key is taking action anyway—and shifting the focus from your own nerves to the people you're there to serve.Success in speaking isn't about waiting for gigs to magically appear—you've got to have a clear system, a focused message, and the drive to keep showing up. Clinton's story is proof that when you ditch the “someday” mindset and get serious about building the right framework, you can turn speaking into a real, thriving career—no matter where you're starting from. You'll learn:The importance of systems in speakingOvercoming limiting beliefs and imposter syndromeManaging nerves and the psychological side of speakingHow to identify audiences and topicsA framework for finding your nicheUnderstanding and establishing credibilityBuilding relationships with event organizersHow to stand out among other speakersAnd much, much more!“And by far, in my opinion, the biggest thing that stops people is ourselves. In this powerful and personal conversation, I'm joined by the unforgettable Ramona J. Smith — 2018 Toastmasters International World Champion of Public Speaking. Ramona's story is about far more than public speaking accolades. It's a journey of courage, confidence, and claiming her worth — financially, personally, and professionally. From teaching high school to setting stages ablaze across five continents, Ramona opens up about what it really took to transform her mindset and bank account. We explore the pivotal role my book Worthy played in helping Ramona shift from a scarcity story into a self-worth-centered approach to money and business. With boldness, honesty, and fire, she shares how she rewrote her internal narrative, raised her prices, and finally began to live — and earn — in alignment with her value. Whether you're a coach, speaker, entrepreneur, or anyone ready to ditch people-pleasing and step into unapologetic worth, this episode is a must-listen. What we explore together: The behind-the-scenes of how Ramona went from classroom to global stages How a conversation with another champion led her to my book ‘Worthy' Worthiness as the foundation of wealth Why affirmations alone won't change your bank account How to find the courage to raise your rates and start charging what you're worth — today → Feeling stuck in your pricing, your self-worth, or your visibility? Start with the inner work. Pick up a copy of Worthy and do the exercises, then, just like Ramona – take action! And if you're ready for deeper support, reach out to me at nancylevin.com! Daily Rhythms That Restore Krystal maintains her spiritual growth and finds daily restoration through: Following The Bible Recap (she's in her third year using it) Leading Bible study Weekly church attendance Worship music that realigns her heart Teaching her boys by example Finding quiet time in her car (her "peace filling spot") Viewing each day as an opportunity for "daily bread" rather than trying to plan too far ahead Her Faith Journey While Krystal grew up in church, she experienced a powerful "wrangling" moment during her junior year of college. She had drifted from her spiritual foundation and was in an unhealthy relationship when her boyfriend unexpectedly suggested attending a Shane & Shane concert. There, she had a profound Holy Spirit encounter that left her in tears throughout the concert. A week later, she ended the relationship, and "everything changed" in her life. Lessons in Obedience and Surrender Krystal shared powerful examples of how obedience to God has blessed her life: Dating journey: She remained patient and selective for over 10 years, writing out Proverbs 31 with her name in it, creating a detailed list of qualities she sought in a partner, and going on many first dates while being obedient to not "waste time with the wrong person" She met her husband Brad on a blind date at age 33 and married at 34 Parenting her youngest son: She described the indescribable blessings that came through fully surrendering and obeying God's guidance God's Movement in Her Life Krystal and Brad have been married for almost 11 years and have two sons. She shared a beautiful perspective: "I am truly and honestly feel like I am living my dream," though she sometimes has to remind herself to fully embrace and enjoy this season of life that she worked so hard for. Advice to Her Younger Self Although she was blessed with great parents and natural confidence as a child, Krystal would remind her younger self to keep seeking God during seasons of doubt, remembering that "obedience creates peace, even when it's not easy." Krystal's Challenge to Listeners "Daily seek Him. I don't know what that looks like for each person but figure out what moves you. On the days you don't feel moved or on the busy days when the day slips by and it's been one or two days since you've dug into the Word, get back to what you know to do. Whether it's worship music, prayer writing, listening to the Bible, reading the Bible, a podcast, or a sermon - there are so many options. Whatever fills your soul with Him, do it and then do it again until on the days you don't, you wake up the following day hungry and ready to return."
