Dr. Smiley is from Bellingham, WA, and graduated with her DPT from the University of Washington. In her undergraduate years, she played collegiate soccer at Biola University. After graduating, she started running in order to stay active and fuel her competitive side after finishing up her soccer career. In 2019, she qualified for the Boston Marathon. Since then, she has competed in three additional marathons (including Boston and Chicago) as well as four additional half marathons. She enjoys working in the running community as a physical therapist and now as an RRCA certified run coach. She made the move from Seattle to Nashville this summer and is thrilled to be the newest member of the Be Ready Team!

I had something super unfortunate happen to me a few weeks ago...I significantly bulged a disc in my low back. I like many of you guys was frustrated in pain and not sure where to go from here. I couldn't bend forward, couldn't stand up straight, and legit couldn't comfortably sit in a chair. Not to mention I couldn't even work out. I had 2 options whine about it or do something about it. So what did I do? I went from difficulty standing without pain to deadlifting kettlebells from the floor pain free in a weeks time. Thats the difference for many of you...you play the wait and see approach and that just slows down your progress. in todays episode I dive into how I got rid of my back pain, changed my mindset, and became determined to never allow this to happen to me again. I cover everything I used in my rehab and some of the other common things I use with patients who have low back pain.
