Episode 69 of the Hollow Bunny Leadership Podcast features former police chiefs Kristen Ziman and Sylvia Moir diving into the complicated relationship between leadership, influence, and authenticity through the lens of Stanford professor Jeffrey Pfeffer's book The Power Playbook. The conversation explores everything from executive presence and personal branding to networking and mentorship, while also challenging some of Pfeffer's more controversial ideas about flattery, image, and apologies in leadership. Throughout the episode, Kristen and Sylvia wrestle with the tension between perception and substance, ultimately arguing that strong leadership is built on credibility, self-awareness, and the willingness to own mistakes while continuing to grow.

Stanford professor Jeffrey Pfeffer joins AJ and Johnny to break down the uncomfortable truth about power: good work alone rarely gets you ahead. From hierarchy and self-promotion to body language, personal branding, weak ties, and political skill, Pfeffer explains why many talented people stay stuck — not because they lack ability, but because they misunderstand how power actually works. Protecting nurses and healthcare workers physically and mentally is not just one component of the Safer Together National Action Plan; it may be the one that holds all the others together. In this third episode of our Safer Together series, Patricia McGaffigan, RN, MS, Vice President of Safety at IHI, President of the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety, and co-chair of the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety talks with Christine Pabico, Senior Director of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Pathway to Excellence and Well-Being Excellence Programs. Patricia and Christine trace the development of ANCC's Well-Being Excellence Credential, the first of its kind to encompass the entire workforce across every type of care setting. We also hear from two of its pilot organizations, Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., and BayCare Health System in Tampa Bay, to hear how they became certified through the ANCC Wellbeing Certification and what that means for their organizations. In the second episode, Kelly Randall, PhD, Vice President for Patient Safety and Regulatory Services at Ascension, where she leads the health system's comprehensive patient safety program, high reliability strategy, and system-wide deployment of the Safer Together National Action Plan, showed us what it looks like to answer that call, shifting culture across nearly 100 hospitals, one huddle, one conversation, one near-miss at a time. OneLegUpAlex highlights AM Pfeffer, Powered by Podmatch 3-25-26Our guest today is A.M. Pfeffer, co-host of Beyond The Surface on the X-Rayted Sports Network, a long-form sports conversation show focused on going beyond headlines, hot takes, and reaction-driven media to explore the deeper forces shaping modern sports. A.M. approaches sports from a uniquely interdisciplinary perspective that blends athletics, business strategy, leadership psychology, media dynamics, and cultural storytelling. While many sports conversations focus strictly on statistics or daily narratives, his work examines why organizations succeed or fail, how leadership decisions ripple through teams and fanbases, and how modern media ecosystems influence the way sports are experienced and understood. https://www.instagram.com/xraytedsportsnetworkThis link is the best “start here” destination for listeners who enjoyed the conversation and want to keep up with Beyond The Surface. It takes them directly to our show hub where they can easily get redirected to the main YouTube page, browse recent episodes, and subscribe so new shows automatically show up in their feed. The benefit to listeners is convenience and continuity. The episode they just heard is usually the beginning of the relationship — but most people won't remember to search later. This CTA removes that friction by giving them an immediate, simple next step: one click to subscribe, then they get ongoing long-form conversations that go beyond the headlines and hot takes. The show consistently explores sports through bigger lenses: leadership, organizational culture, media narratives, business incentives, and the psychology of fandom. For hosts, this CTA is also easy to share in show notes because it's clean and listener-first. It doesn't ask people to “support” anything — it simply offers a place to keep listening if the audience wants more of the type of conversation we just had. That's why it performs well: it's aligned with what listeners already want in the moment.Podmatch affilaite: https://www.joinpodmatch.com/onelegupalex

You have the journals. The saved Instagram posts. The downloaded workbooks. The course you paid for and almost finished. The forty-seven browser tabs comparing business models. And you're still not started. In this episode, I'm naming the real reason — and it's not what you think. It's not laziness. It's not a lack of faith. It's a psychological pattern I call the Clarity Trap: the belief that one more piece of research will finally be the thing that makes you ready to begin.Backed by landmark Stanford research, one of the most-watched TED Talks of all time, and nearly two decades of coaching women across three continents, today I'm going deep on the one thing keeping more gifted, called women invisible than any other single force. And I'm showing you exactly how to break free from it — before one more month slips past.3 KEY TAKEAWAYS:1️⃣ The Knowing-Doing Gap — and Why More Information Makes It WorseStanford researchers Jeffrey Pfeffer and Robert Sutton found that the biggest barrier to performance isn't lack of knowledge — it's the failure to translate knowledge into action. And counterintuitively, more information often widens the gap rather than closing it. You don't have an information problem. You have a proximity problem. The solution isn't another course. It's someone in your corner while you build.2️⃣ The Paradox of Choice Is Keeping You ParalysedBarry Schwartz's landmark research showed that more options produce more paralysis — not more freedom. In a famous study, shoppers were far less likely to buy jam when faced with 24 varieties than with just 6. Every new piece of content you consume adds another variable to your decision. Your brain — trying to protect you — responds to that overwhelm with one word: wait. That word is not wisdom. It is fear wearing the coat of wisdom.3️⃣ Clarity Is the Fruit of Action — Not the Root of ItYou don't get clear and then start. You start — and clarity is what emerges. The women who break out of the Clarity Trap are almost never the ones who finally found the right information. They are the women who finally found the right proximity: someone who had gone before them, and walked with them while they went. Clarity on your niche, your message, and your offer is not a prerequisite for starting. It is a byproduct of starting.RESOURCES MENTIONED:Free Clarity Map™ — your next honest step: https://www.sheinherited.com/clarityPOOF Founding Cohort — doors open Sunday, March 23 (8–10 spots only): https://www.sheinherited.com/2026poofResearch cited: Pfeffer & Sutton, The Knowing-Doing Gap (Harvard Business Press, 2000)Research cited: Barry Schwartz, The Paradox of Choice — TED Talk & bookScripture referenced: Luke 19:11–27 — Parable of the Ten MinasEpisode 5 (listen next): Your Story Is the Only Thing the Algorithm Can't StealEpisode 1: Walking Through Fire — How Betrayal Qualified MeEpisode 2: The ONE Thing Aspiring Founders Get WrongSUBSCRIBE & REVIEWIf today's episode named something you've been living — if you heard yourself in those forty-seven tabs — take a moment to subscribe and leave a review here or on Apple Podcasts.

Israel has operated in the skies above Tehran. It has struck nuclear facilities near Baghdad and dominated the airspace of its enemies across the region. But according to a newsletter that the Israeli journalist Amit Segal sent out earlier this week, there is one city in the Middle East where the IDF cannot move freely. That city is a fifteen-minute drive from Tel Aviv, and is called Bnei Brak. On February 15, two female soldiers from the IDF's Education and Youth Corps arrived in this densely populated haredi city for a routine visit to a draftee ahead of his induction. A local resident called a hotline run by the Jerusalem Faction—an anti-conscription group—and falsely reported that military police were distributing draft notices. A mob of hundreds materialized, surrounded the soldiers, chased them through the streets, and forced them to hide until police arrived to rescue them. A patrol car was overturned. A police motorcycle was set on fire. Twenty-six were arrested; most were released by nightfall. Israeli leaders across the political spectrum condemned the violence as the provocation of extremists. But whether they support the rioters or not, most of the Jews of Bnei Brak see the draft as an existential threat to their way of life. It's just that the extremists are willing to say so with violence. For the past two years, pressed by the Supreme Court and by growing public resentment, the government has been trying to legislate a resolution to the question of haredi military service. Some 80,000 haredi men between the ages of eighteen and twenty-four are currently eligible for conscription but have not enlisted. A bill now moving through the Knesset would set enlistment targets, grant continued deferments to full-time yeshiva students, and impose penalties that critics—including the government's own legal advisers — say will produce no meaningful increase in enlistment. The haredi parties have threatened to block the 2026 state budget unless the bill passes. If the budget fails to pass by March 31, the Knesset dissolves and elections are triggered. The country is, in effect, in the middle of a slow-motion constitutional crisis over this question. Into this moment comes Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer. He is the founding editor of Tzarich Iyun—a journal of haredi thought—and has devoted his public life to arguing that the haredi world must take greater responsibility for the Jewish state, and that it can do so without compromising its fundamental values. In January, following the death of a fourteen-year-old boy struck by a bus at a different protest, Rabbi Pfeffer wrote an essay in Tzarich Iyun called "Idleness, Anger, and the Erosion of the Torah World." In light of what happened this week in Bnei Brak, it deserves a wide hearing. In this episode, Pfeffer speaks with Mosaic's editor Jonathan Silver about the conscription crisis and the recent riot.

Muss was probieren.

Send us a textStanford professor Jeffrey Pfeffer joins Joe Byerly for a candid and provocative discussion about power—what it is, how it works, and why more good people need to learn to use it. Drawing from his influential books Power: Why Some People Have It and Others Don't and The 7 Rules of Power, Pfeffer challenges listeners to see the world as it really operates—not as we wish it to be.In this conversation, Joe and Dr. Pfeffer unpack why power isn't inherently bad, how to build influence without losing integrity, and why refusing to “play the game” guarantees you'll lose it. They explore lessons that apply equally to military leaders, executives, and anyone who wants to make change in complex organizations—from overcoming imposter syndrome and likability traps to mastering visibility, networking, and personal branding.Listeners will come away with a sharper understanding of human nature, organizational dynamics, and what it really takes to lead with impact and authenticity in competitive environments. In this episode, Joe and Dr. Pfeffer also explore:Why power is a skill—and how good people can learn to use it for goodThe critical difference between power and influenceWhy authenticity, likability, and imposter syndrome can quietly sabotage effectivenessThe importance of appearing powerful—and how confidence often signals competenceHow building a personal brand and network expands your ability to lead and shape changeThe real costs of opting out of power—and how to navigate ambition without egoWhy leaders need a “personal board of directors” to stay grounded once they gain powerWhether you're leading soldiers, managing teams, or influencing from the middle, this episode offers a masterclass in understanding power—how to earn it, wield it wisely, and ensure that good people rise to positions where they can make a difference.A Special Thanks to Our Sponsors!Veteran-founded Adyton. The lesson of U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest diplomatic gambit is that in Middle East deal-making, “the devil is in the details, but the most important thing is political willpower,” said Anshel Pfeffer, The Economist’s Israel correspondent and former Haaretz columnist, speaking on the Haaretz Podcast. Trump, he noted, “has supplied that political willpower in bucket loads.” Hours after Israel and Hamas agreed on a deal to end the war in Gaza and release the hostages, Pfeffer spoke with host Allison Kaplan Sommer about the long road to the deal, the obstacles that lie ahead and the joyful yet nervous mood among Israelis as they anticipate the long-awaited return of all the hostages. Pfeffer, a biographer of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also discussed how he expects Israel’s leader to shape the narrative of the cease-fire to serve his political goals ahead of next year’s general election. “We know how hard Donald Trump had to press him to accept this plan, but he is a very pragmatic person," Pfeffer said. "The moment something is forced upon him, he immediately makes it look as if it was his idea all along.” Read more: Analysis by Anshel Pfeffer | Netanyahu's Last Stand: How Rewriting the Gaza War Will Decide the Israeli Leader's Political Destiny Israel, Hamas Reach Gaza Cease-fire Deal; Trump: Hostages Will Be Released Monday 'A Day of Joy': Hundreds of Israelis Stream to Hostage Square to Celebrate Israel-Hamas Deal With Families 'We'll Go Back Home, Rebuild Our Lives': Gaza's Palestinians Celebrate Deal to End Israel-Hamas War Turkey, Egypt and Qatar Will Help Israel and U.S. Recover Bodies of Hostages From GazaSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In November 2022, Benjamin Netanyahu returned to power in Israel after winning his sixth election. Propped up by a bloc of far-right and ultra-religious parties, Netanyahu's government is seen by many as the most extreme in Israeli history. But he is also a remarkably successful politician: he first won power in 1996 and is Israel's longest-serving prime minister. In September 2025 Anshel Pfeffer, one of the world's foremost experts on the Israeli Prime Minister came to Intelligence Squared for the third instalment of our Age of the Strongman series. Pfeffer drew from his forthcoming book 'No King In Israel: The Jewish State Confronts its Demons' to shed light on Netanyahu's bold vision for reshaping the Middle East, his cosy relationship with Donald Trump, his battles to silence the Israeli judiciary and his ongoing expansion of settlements in the West Bank. Pfeffer also explained the monumental shifts in Israeli politics that have taken place after October 7 and the wars in Gaza and Lebanon. Learn more about your ad choices. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fancies himself as Israel's Winston Churchill, when in fact, the Gaza war has demonstrated he is exactly the opposite of Great Britain's storied leader, asserted Anshel Pfeffer, Israel correspondent for The Economist, former Haaretz analyst and a Netanyahu biographer, on the Haaretz Podcast. "We shouldn't be making this World War II – the Nazis against everybody else, and comparing that to Israel's war with Hamas. But that's being almost forced upon us by Netanyahu and his supporters," said Pfeffer in conversation with host Allison Kaplan Sommer. Pfeffer, who recently published a column in Haaretz about Netanyahu's repeated slogan of achieving "total victory" over Hamas and his misguided identification with Churchill in the second world war, said "Churchill was a brilliant wartime leader. He managed to bring the British together at that crucial point in history, uniting a country at a time of a terrible war. Yet, he didn't have the ability to win elections. Netanyahu is the opposite. As we've seen so clearly, he is totally useless at uniting Israel at a time of war, but he's very, very good at winning elections and clinging onto power." Pfeffer also pointed out that the "scorched earth" victory model that Netanyahu and his far-right coalition partners are pursuing in Gaza hews closer to former Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin and Russian President Vladimir Putin than Churchill and the other Western allies. Netanyahu should be reminded, Pfeffer said, that the U.K. and the U.S. were "magnanimous and benevolent" victors who poured millions into rebuilding a de-Nazified Germany. "That is a very, very different vision of victory."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
