In this episode of the Sunlight Tax podcast, I talk with Reggie Tidwell and Tim Scroggs, the founders of the design agency 40 Hearts. We dive into their journey as designers, explore the impact of AI on the creative industry, and discuss why community and branding matter so much during times of economic uncertainty. Our conversation highlights the need for genuine human connection and the enduring value of creativity in navigating challenges. Also mentioned in today's episode: 02:52 Meet the Designers: Reggie Tidwell and Tim Scroggs 08:38 Creating Enduring Value in Design 11:58 Navigating Client Relationships and Brand Strategy 14:49 Building Confidence as a Designer 17:35 Embracing the Unknown in Creativity 23:55 AI and the Future of Design 29:56 Community and Connection in the Design World 32:36 The Impact of AI on Creativity and Humanity 41:19 The Importance of Intuition and Human Connection Takeaways The design industry is evolving with the introduction of AI, but human creativity remains irreplaceable. Branding is essential for businesses, especially during economic uncertainty. Transitioning from a beginner to an expert designer involves gaining confidence and experience. AI should be viewed as a tool to enhance creativity, not a replacement for it. Isolation is a significant challenge for creatives, and community support is vital. Understanding client needs is crucial for effective branding and marketing strategies. Creativity thrives in environments that value human connection and collaboration. The future of design will require a blend of technology and human intuition. If you enjoyed this episode, please rate, review and share it! What if you could get the buzz without the booze? That's the promise of Nowadays, a THC drinks brand whose growth has been off the charts. Co-founded by Justin Tidwell in 2023, Nowadays has already hit an estimated $15 million in revenue, and Justin says it's on track to double that in 2025. The brand started with a simple but radical idea: a THC-infused spirit that mimics vodka or tequila, giving people the ability to mix their own THC cocktails at home. Now, they're in 5,000 retail doors across 25 states, partnering with top alcohol distributors to bring THC drinks into bars, liquor stores, and even hotels. In this episode, we get into the nitty-gritty of how Nowadays went from a viral TikTok hit to a full-blown beverage powerhouse. Justin shares his playbook for launching a category-defining brand, scaling through social media without paid influencers, and tackling the unique challenges of building a THC drinks business in a world designed for alcohol. We discuss:- From zero to $1 million in 90 days: How a single TikTok post turned Nowadays into an overnight success.- Cracking the THC spirits market: The formula behind their best-selling 750-ml bottled spirit and its tiered dosing system (2 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg THC).- Retail expansion: The strategy behind Nowadays' 400% growth in retail doors and why partnering with alcohol distributors is a game-changer.- Social media without paid influencers? Why Nowadays bets on organic content and lets consumers drive the conversation.- Funding and profitability: How they raised capital after proving demand and built a high-growth, profitable business at the same time.- The future of THC beverages: Justin's vision for making THC drinks as common as beer and wine in bars, restaurants, and liquor stores.Last Call:Don't miss our next episode, dropping on March 12.A recent study from Oregon State University and researchers in New Zealand found that some consumers actually like the taste of smoke tainted wines. When hard working, loyal, salt of the Earth guy like Jimmy Tidwell goes missing in February of 2012 after finishing his regular shift at work, no one can imagine what could've happened. After friends and family members were suspected but no evidence of involvement was found, some questions might be closer to being answered. While random abductions and murders are relatively rare, Jimmy could have crossed paths with the devil - Israel Keyes. A late 2024 discovery in an area close to where Jimmy was last seen could have been used in his disappearance and likely murder. Could Jimmy be another victim of Israel Keyes? If you have any information on the disappearance of Jimmy Tidwell from Mount Enterprise Texas, please contact the Rusk County Sheriff's Department at 903-657-3581 or anonymously at the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 903-657-TIPS (8477)
In this episode we discuss worship with PT Tidwell, Church on Bayshore's new Worship Minister. We end it all with a game of is it a worship song, or a love song?
Joining us today is the Chief Marketing Officer at PuK Gaming. Zach Tidwell transformed his life after a self-inflicted gunshot wound left him blind and deaf in one ear. Through perseverance, he has pursued numerous adventurous activities, including skiing and white water rafting. He demonstrated that with determination and support, one can regain independence and achieve remarkable goals despite significant challenges. Tidwell now focuses on inspiring others, promoting mental health awareness, and aiding in the creation of blind accessibility technology. He emphasizes that life improvement comes through active effort and resilience. Hear his story now! To learn more -- or read the transcript -- please visit the official episode page. “That first snowboarding trip was eight and a half months after I shot myself. That next month, I got back into college. Six months later, I moved into downtown Denver to live on the college campus and had to learn to navigate the city with just my cane. It has been incremental, and those sports have been sprinkled in along the way, where even though I didn't have the skill to cook, I got a taste of independent snowboarding. And then when I moved out on my own, I got to OK, now the river was the new thing. And it's kind of supported all of the personal growth that I've had.” ~Zach Tidwell Zach Tidwell is a blind Marine Corps veteran and suicide survivor best known for his lighthearted approach to the hard topics in life and his ability to inspire others. Having shot himself in the head in an attempt to take his own life, he woke up blind and deaf in one ear and with a new perspective on life. At only 28 years old, Zach now shares his story and the lessons he's learned along the way to save lives and motivate others to take control and write the stories of their futures. In addition to sharing his hard-learned lessons, Zach has gone on to found his own software development company so he can lead the way in inclusive design by creating software everyone can use, regardless of disability or lack thereof. Outside of work, he breaks down barriers and social perceptions of what the world thinks a disabled person can do. He skis, rock climbs, whitewater kayaks, skydives, and even competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu against other practitioners without disabilities.
